TFFP: Cost Savings in Design w/ Senior Engineer Daniel Pister
TFFP: Part 1 w/ Senior Engineer Daniel PisterEveryone thinks groundbreaking, sustainable buildings have to cost a fortune. But what if that is not entierly true? What if smart design could save money and slash CO2 emissions at the same time?In Episode 5 of The Future Frameworks Podcast, we sit down with Dipl.-Ing. Daniel Pister, a structural engineer with 30 years of experience, to tear down the myth that better buildings must have bigger budgets. We start with Daniel’s fascinating journey, from growing up in the shadow of the real Frankenstein castle in Germany to designing everything from Bundesliga football stadiums to LUNA, Europe’s most advanced lunar surface simulator. We also explore the bigger picture: how using the right material for the right purpose whether steel, wood, or concrete can enhance human well-being, and how the industry's own payment models can create a conflict of interest that works against the client. Finally, Daniel shares his passion for mentoring the next generation and what excites him most about the future of structural engineering.Listen to Episode 5, “Cost Savings in Design” with Daniel Pister, now on Spotify and YouTube.*We apologize for the unusual audio quality in this episode. Linear vs Circular Economies
The Future Frameworks PodcastEpisode 2: Linear vs Circular Economy Welcome to Episode 2 of The Future Frameworks Podcast. After laying the groundwork with the three pillars of sustainability (People, Planet, Profit), we’re taking the next step and exploring one of the most important shifts needed to deliver sustainability in practice: moving from a linear economy to a circular economy and what that means for the built environment. The crux of this episode is where we break down the difference between the two models. We define a linear system (take–make–waste), explain why it has become the default, and unpack the hidden costs it creates across materials, energy, waste, and emissions. Then we introduce the circular economy, where resources are kept in use for longer through strategies like designing for durability, reuse, repair, disassembly, and material recovery. We also apply these ideas directly to building and construction an industry where choices about design, procurement, and end-of-life planning can lock in impacts for decades. Finally, we talk about why “recycling” alone isn’t the same as circularity, and how circular thinking can support all three pillars when it’s implemented thoughtfully.

The Three Pillars of Sustainability
The Future Frameworks Podcast Episode 1: The Three Pillars of Sustainability Welcome to Episode 1 of The Future Frameworks Podcast. We’re starting at the beginning, introducing who we are, what brought us to sustainability, and why we’re passionate aboutshaping a better future through the built environment. The crux of the episode is where we explore the three pillars of sustainability: People, Planet, and Profit. We define each pillar clearly, then apply them to the building and construction sector, where decisions have long-lasting impacts on communities, the environment, and the economy. We also talk about why the pillars need to be used together and how overlooking even one can lead to unintended consequences.
