  1. 22

    Copper Wire Western

This was my first submission for the original Song VS. This pre-dates the weekly themes. I was going for a spaghetti western type song using synthesizer elements.

  2. 21

    Stimutax

My cover of the Sealab 2021 theme song, recorded for Song Tuesday. Week #4, Theme: Cover the Sealab 2021 theme.

  3. 20

    ItsAboutTime

This was my submission for week three of the new Song VS aka Song Tuesday. The theme was decay. I ran short on time so it doesn't really adhere very closely to the theme in any discernible way. I do however like the build up and layering of guitar tracks.

  4. 19

    Electronic Precision

This was my submission for week two of the the new Song Tuesday, previously Song VS. The theme was computers. I've been working a lot lately with mixing analog synthesizer noise, sequencing loops, and traditional rock instrumental pieces. This is perhaps my most skillful mixture of these elements.

  5. 18

    Vegtastic

This was my first submission for the new run of Song VS. The theme was veggies. Other than the intro, the song has little to do with vegetables, and is pretty sloppily executed (lots of analog noise). Regardless, it was pretty fun getting back into the swing of things.

  6. 17

    Buffalo Buffalo Buffalo Buffalo

This was my submission for week 20 of the original Song VS. The theme was buffalo. I was going for a heavy, driving, stampede sounding song.

  7. 16

    Three Years

This was my submission for week eighty-five of Song VS (note: that's my eighty-fifth week, not other peoples...I got very confusing). The theme was sexual frustration, thus the porn samples at the beginning.

  8. 15

    Method (phase One)

This was my submission for week eighty-three of Song VS. The theme was ritual. I was getting into more atmospheric synth based stuff, with the idea of creating songs that could be used to score videos or movies.

  9. 14

    De/sire/lusion/feat

This was an attempt to get away from the shorter, one angle, type of songs I was doing for Song VS, and get back into writing music with a more standard verse chorus verse structure. As this was not a part of Song VS I spent a lot more time experimenting with alternate compositions and mixes. I never really felt like it was finished, but enough time has passed that I know I'm not going to go back to it.

  10. 13

    Metathesiophobic Recoil

This was my submission for week eighty of Song VS. The theme was the future. This was around the time I was first experimenting with running synthesizers through distortion boxes to get a grittier, more guitar like tone from them.

  11. 12

    Drone Pilot

This was my submission for week seventy-nine of Song VS. The theme was drone pilots. I was getting more into synthesizer sounds and drum machines, straying away from my typical guitar and drum based work. I enjoy the warbly middle eastern sound synth in the last portion.

  12. 11

    I Am Dickie Greenleaf

This was my submission for week seventy-eight of Song VS. The theme was Matt Damon. I like this arrangement quite a bit, but I really wish it didn't get so sloppy near the end.

  13. 10

    Prometheus

This was my submission for week fifty-one of Song VS. The theme for the week was fire. Pretty standard fair from me, but I really like the pitch bending on the vocals, which I did in real time with an annoyingly sensitive parameter knob on the SP-404.

  14. 9

    Fear

This was my submission for week fifty-seven of Song VS. I believe the theme was just fear (really original title); I'm not sure, it's been a while. This was when I began to get interested in analog synth sounds, but didn't own any real analog synthesizers. So, I did my best replicate those warmer smooth tones using various effects on digital synths and keyboards.

  15. 8

    That Ol' Feelin'

This was my submission for week fifty-six of Song VS. The theme was itchy. I think I captured the theme pretty well. The scratching sounds are a loop of my fingers on carpet. I especially like the sliding lead parts that are a combination of ribbon synth and guitar, I think they melded together well.

  16. 7

    Night Surfin'

This was my submission for week sixty-seven of Song VS. The theme was waves. This is probably my favorite emulation song. I was trying to replicate the musical and recording style of surf music, but my inevitable dark sensibilities came through, creating what I like to think of as night surf. I liked it so much that I was contemplating recording an entire album in the night surf genre.

  17. 6

    Aware

This was my submission for week sixty-three of Song VS. The theme was artificial intelligence. I had just gotten my first analog synth sequencer a few weeks prior to recording this, so I was going synth noise crazy at this point. Regardless, I still really like this song. I was going for a Gary Numan style gritty, pop, electronic sound. Perhaps I fell a bit, or probably more, short, but I really like the cascading beeps and boops, and the haphazardly drunken harmonies.

  18. 5

    Siggeir's Treachery

This was my submission for week fifty-eight of Song VS. The theme was the Völsunga saga. The instrumentation is nothing special, but I really like the way the ping-pong delay on the guitar tracks in the opening creates a lot of awesome unintended harmonics, culminating in something much more dynamic that I had in mind at first.

  19. 4

    La Luna

This was my submission for week forty-six of Song VS. The theme was the moon... "ahhhhhh the french." I just think this song is pretty, a sharp contrast to my typical love of music that bites your ears off.

  20. 3

    Orange

This was my submission for week thirty of Song VS. The theme was orange; another in my long line of titles that are nothing more than the theme. It's a pretty simple song, but I think it builds nicely. It's perhaps one of my favorites; I especially like the phony orchestral stuff.

  21. 2

    Peanutbutta & Jelly

This was my submission for week thirty-nine of Song VS. The theme was peanut butter and jelly sandwiches. Not a smart or inventive song in any way, but I like it... that is all, enjoy.

  22. 1

    Bad Mutha Fucka

This was my submission for way back on week five of Song VS. It reminds me of when I cared enough to start my songs days in advance, rather than hours. I still like the funky feel of the bass guitar, which I rarely use anymore ('cause I have to solder several wires inside every time I try to use it... piece of shit).
