    Jam Night 20190628

We had the pleasure of having a live, really good, drummer, my son, Brett, this evening. So here's a little family jam for ya in celebration of this old man's 54th. Thanks to the fellas for coming out and jamming with me for my B-day. Not to mention, it was an awesome jam!So in honor of the occassion, I have named this lineup. We are now known as Dirt Puppy, since this is Free Dirt, plus my son (yet a pup at 25). Anyhow, this is almost a "let it roll" jam, however brief (it was hot!), but we got one jam in that is top 100 caliber. And we finish with a little ditty of mine I like to call "My Song" (Nothing's Better). So, enjoy your ass off!Jam On,DJ

    Jam Night 20190606

Another jammin' jam night. We actually start off with a couple oldies but groove on some cool jams as well. And just for good measure, we throw in our Twisted Sister version of Truck Driving Man. You lucky jam night junkies.Jam on,DJ

  3. 466

    Jam Night 20190529

Here's another wild Free Dirt jam. Our relentless drummer is good for keeping us in line, but sometimes hard to hear. Nonetheless, we jammed a good long "let it roll" session and lots of good stuff in there.Jam on jam night junkies,DJ

    Jam Night 20190515

Here's a jammy jam night for you; Free Dirt special. Pretty much just letting it roll and trying out whatever we want. It is a very liberating way to play. No pre-conceived notion of what it "should" sound like, so anything and everything is POTENTIALLY brilliant. You really never know what your going to get. Then you listen back and realize things you don't even remeber doing. A bit like stream of conciousness.DJ like!DJ

    Jam Night 20190718

Ok, here's a bit of a different, though not uncommon these days, jam night. My son and I spent a little time in the jam room recently and pretty much just let the "tape" roll. I have been a huge fan of Can (the band, if you've never heard of them, you should leave this site and google them immediately) and have heard that they would just record hours of jamming and then go back and see what, if anything, was worth using. Well, that was the idea, and I'm glad I did. My son is an incredible drummer as well as an avid musician, in general (small thanks to me, I like to think). So between the two of us, a loop pedal and computer based synth, I thought this was well worth posting. If ever there was a "JAM", this is it. Hope you enjoy it as much as I do. More to come, of course.DJ

    Jam Night 05012019

Another great Jam Night! Had the same line-up as last time but this time we were pretty much exclusively JAMMIN'! We rotated instruments so try to guess the changes. Nice to have several "multi-instrumentalists" if you're going to do some hard-core jammin'.If you haven't noticed, the Jam Night Jukebox now features continuous play. When one jam finishes, it will automatically move to the next jam. If you are listening to the latest jam, it will start back at the beginning (2007). Just so you know, if you listen to every jam night from the beginning non-stop, you will need to set aside about a week, and not sleep.Enjoy,DJ

    Jam Night 20190403

What a Jam Night! We had a guest guitarist and drummer\bass player! We rocked out some Lou, Donovan, Buck, Stones, some recent originals and some downright dirty jams. I think I died and went to heaven. Junkies, check this one out!Rock On,DJ

    Jam Night 02212019

Hey! Wake up! We're back!Had the guit-master (EBGIII) over to jam night east tonight for a good ol' jam night jam, and a little work on old and new. We kick off with 'Tape' Mulrooney on keys as we explore the fabulous "open G" tuning. You might recognize it, maybe. Then we moved on to an attempt at playing the yet-unreleased "Lay Low" semi-live. Let me just say, neither of us have played it much in too long. And finally, a very impromtu attempt at the same on my recent project shortly after guit-master laid down a show stopping track for me (off air, of course). More on that to come. Can you feel it, jammin' in the air.Jam on jam night junkies!DJ

  9. 460

    Nothing's Better

Here's an update of the latest project. Added some lyrics and a bit of mixing. Might bring this one to a jam and get some others' ideas for some guit. Drop a line an let me know what you think. As always, jam on jam junkies.DJ

  10. 459

    The End - X

Ok, I know, I've been completely negligent posting updates for over a year now. Truth of the matter is, we aren't doing weekly jams any longer. Getting older is hard, especially when it comes to time. I've been doing a lot of learning, practicing (not so much) and jamming with myself and my son and a few others here and there. So I was working on a new one today, almost the last day of the year, 2018. And I figured, if nothing else, it would be worth posting updates with little projects I do here and there, along with any random jam recordings I might be fortunate enough to record. So here is the first installment of the updated Jam Night Jukebox. In tribute to the new year, I'm calling this one The End. Experimental demo version, of course.Enjoy and Rock On!DJ

    Jam Night 09082017

Well here we are again. It has been quite a while since our last jam, taking a break and working on other projects. But we rolled right back into it and played some of our favorite old jam night classics. We did discuss the state of our latest project we had been working on and we will likely be back to working on it very soon. Too good to let sit on the shelf much longer. Not to mention moving on to new things. Jam On - DJ

    Jam Night 02222017

Another working session to develop the B side for the recently completed A side. Added a little synth on this take and, being an eighteen minute long version, tried all sorts of different licks and variations. It is really starting to sound like the perfect companion. Enjoy - DJ

  13. 456

    Jam Night 02162017

So you may have noticed a big gap in the jam calendar. The reason is that we have finally completed the new song we developed from a free-form jam (one of many). So with that in hand, we are looking for the B side and this is the prime candidate. This too came from one of the jams we have been doing over the last several months. So keep your ears and eyes open for the release of this single sometime soon. - DJ

  14. 455

    Jam Night 09152016

This week we were back to working on "fleshing out" the new song. Added some synth and worked on structure to get something we can start tracking. Fun stuff, hope you enjoy it. - DJ

  15. 454

    Jam Night 09082016

More work on the new song, this time we have Tom along on the bass and myself on drums. We also took a stab at another one we may end up making into the B-side of a single release. We will just have to see how it goes. While we had Tom on the boom stick we also threw in another little ditty with Otto on drums and myself on the vocal stylings. Enjoy - DJ

  16. 453

    Jam Night 09012016

In this episode of Jam Night Jukebox, we are starting to develop a couple of the jams we picked out of all the experimental jams we've been doing lately. We are calling the first one Lay-Low and it is our first venture into a Can-like experimental jam turned into an actual song. Brad has worked up some lyrics and we have a bit of structure to follow at this point. Stick around and find out how they turn out.

  17. 452

    Jam Night 08032016

More funky free-jamming! Hope you are loving this as much as I am. Either way, we kicked out a rockin' thirteen minute first jam (kudos to otto, the drummer) and then follow up with a bit more mellow (just a bit) little ditty with a strong, constant synth vibe and once again, automatic otto on drums. That is it for this jam, two tasty ten-plus minute jams. Enjoy - DJ

  18. 451

    Jam Night 07212016

More Jam-X anyone? We go from a little spy music, to a little petty-esque ditty, to down-tempo (mystery) spy music. Calling all improv, experimental drummers in KY!Enjoy - DJ

  19. 450

    Jam Night 07062016

    More Jam-X anyone?Enjoy - DJ

  20. 449

    Jam Night 06302016

More Jam-X! Hope you enjoy it as much as we do. Got the synth a little more involved tonight, and the e-bass even. But basically a whole lotta jammin' jam-x. Enjoy - DJ

  21. 448

    Jam Night 06222016

We kick of this jamnight with a couple updated versions of songs we've been working on that started as freeform improv jam-x jams. They are definitely starting to take shape. We close out with yet another jam-x jam that I have to say, I'm not sure I remember what the theme was, but it was a good one.Enjoy junkies,DJ

  22. 447

    Jam Night 06012016

Welcome back Jamnight Junkies! Well here it is, the next step in the evolution of experimental music. We are doing a little pre-planning on our jams, basically deciding on a good break that we can throw in... wherever. This takes the experimental jamming to a little higher level with the same idea of free-form improv, but having some sort of framework to guide us along the way.So, as is now the case, only a couple sessions for the whole jamnight. Of course we had lots to "discuss off air" as we listen back for the gems.Enjoy junkies,DJ

  23. 446

    Jam Night 05192016

Joe was back on the suitcase/drums and we jammed out several jamnight classics. But we ended up with a great little (8 minute) experimental jam! This is quickly becoming our MO. Stay tuned for much more.Enjoy junkies,DJ

  24. 445

    Jam Night 05052016

Back to Jam-X mode. Just the Free Dirt crew with another e-drummer and a few effects pedals. 40 minutes, 3 jams, just experimental heaven, that's all. This jam marks a distinct move towards the experimental side. Whereas you may be long time listeners and used to the usual mix of classics and originals, we are moving in the direction of all original, experimental improvisational jamming a-la Can (look them up if you don't know who they are). We just let it roll, play whatever comes to mind, and eventually we will go back to cherry pick the highlights and form them into something complete.Liberating is a bit of an understatement.Enjoy junkies,DJ

  25. 444

    Jam Night 04282016

Cool little addition to the jukebox tonight, an upright/double bass! Pretty cool sound but talk about moving furniture. It almost feels like moving furniture just playing the sucker. But you can't beat that sound. Courtesy of drummer Joe, back in the house for this jam.Just the usual mix of covers and originals.Enjoy junkies,DJ

  26. 443

    Jam Night 04212016

Here's another of the new jams. We had another of our e-drummers tonight so it was time to go back to jam-x mode. A little synth, a little guitar, a little bass, a little drum machine and a few effects; just some cool jammy jams.Enjoy junkies,DJ

  27. 442

    Jam Night 04142016

Another jam with Joe the suitcase drummer. We did the usual mix of classic covers and originals.Enjoy the jammage junkies.DJ

  28. 441

    Jam Night 04072016

Working in more synth experimenting, along with all the experimenting. But we took it to another level by mixing in some synth on a few old originals. Like I said before, nice layers are always welcome. Another good long x-jam or two and we wrap things up with a version of Mama Tried in honor of the passing of Merle Haggard. Not that it sounds anything like Merle's version, but it is unique, just like Merle was.

  29. 440

    Jam Night 03312016

Kicked things off with a nice little up-tempo jam, featuring T-Mack on the congas. Continued with a little experimentation on the new synth. Very basic for now, since we're really not sure what all those button do. But some cool layers and textures are always welcome and very simple (compared to a wall of physical machinery).

  30. 439

    Jam Night 03242016

Another Free Dirt X jam night. We worked up a little riff and took it as far as we could, at the time. Could be some very useable stuff there. Couple more nice little ramble jams as well. Tito Mack showing his conga skills in the final jam of the evening. Enjoy Jam Junkies!

  31. 438

    Jam Night 03172016

We did a little Free Dirt X jamming tonight. The ever relentless Tito Mack on the drums. Working out the freeform jams looking for golden nuggets. We wrap with our attempt at a Bowie tribute, a very raw version of Ashes to Ashes. Enjoy.

  32. 437

    Jam Night 03102016

Another Joe-Jam this week. The man was back behind the suitcase and we jammed out a bunch of originals and some of our favorite covers. Yeah, we still need to work on levels with the new drum set but we'll get there folks, sooner or later.Enjoy the great vibes. -- DJ

  33. 436

    Jam Night 03032016

Seems like a new drummer every week but this week we had a little competition between Joe Jr. and Larry. They’re both pretty steady drummers but honestly, they lack the improvisational skills we witnessed from Joe Sr. last week. Either way, it was a good jammy jam and we even managed to come up with what could be the basis for an actual song. See if you can spot it.Enjoy -- DJ.

  34. 435

    Jam Night 02252016

Special Jam Night tonight! We had a special appearance by this new drummer we found hanging out down at the local music store and I'll be damned if he isn't a natural. Not to mention, he built his own drum set out of a suitcase and brought it over to jam central.Big thanks to Joe for bringing the beat back to the box. And let me tell you, you should have heard the tasty little jam we didn't get on tape. But there will definitely be a next time!Enjoy JNJ junkies (and you know who you are). -- DJ
