The Jump Cut

Just two friends talking about media, culture, social trends, and how the world communicates all the things!

  1. 4

    Happy Podiversary/Belated Saint Patrick's Day

We're back, babeee! (I mean, we're gonna try.) In this episode, Amy and Carrie slap on face masks, pour an Irish drink and then jump around from topic to topic as they do. In this episode, they experiment with artificial intelligence and prepare for the robots to take their jobs, talk a little trash (TV), and eventually lose half of the podcast to technical issues only to pick it right back up at a life-changing new use for ketamine and changing attitudes toward mental health. Plus, Amy now knows a revolting fact about pineapples and Carrie definitely doesn't sound as street smart as she pretends to be when struggling to comprehend Ayahuasca ('eye-ah-WAH-ska'). We can't believe we didn't record any of these during amateur hour Pandemic Podcast Season. That's alright. The OGs are back.

  2. 3

Beauty marketing, bucket lists and hot hashtags, oh my!

We're back, we're back! In our second chance first episode (aka epi 2) we slather on snail excretions and men's beauty masks while we talk about our obsession with the beauty industry's ninja marketing skills, hot hashtags and why their curious success makes us optimistic about the evolution of journalism tools that don't even exist yet, and then we struggle with our basic bucket lists. Website with links to the stuff we talked about coming soon!

  3. 2

    Ghosts and technology goblins

We haven't abandoned you! Carrie has learned more than she needs to know about wifi servers, plaster walls, and the time and space continuum, but it's totally worth it. Our technology is going to be so good, it will be like we're recording inches away from each other, despite living in different parts of the country. In the meantime, tell us your ghost stories. That sounds like a thing we're gonna want to talk about.

  4. 1

You guys, we did it! (Epi. 1)

Boy has this been a long time coming. Please remember that this is the first pancake and ignore our very few moments of robotic audio tin and Carrie's unusually excessive vocal fry. It's been a long week and we haven't quite figured out the art of podcasting from two different states at the same time. In this epi we chat about vegan cheese, Will Smith stealing Amy's parking spot, Gayle King's well-earned monk status, our obsession with Elizabeth Holmes, grief bacon, really expensive ginger juice, and a little about Post Traumatic Television News Syndrome (tell us how you're feeling newsies), and we do it all while testing facial masks because the internet says that's how you get your life together. My fingers are out of breath. Welcome to The Jump Cut!
