When Following Jesus Actually Costs You...
Deciding ahead of time who you're going to be is one thing, but what happens when the moment actually arrives and it costs you something real?A friendship. A reputation. A room that goes quiet. A furnace that's actually hot. That's where this conversation goes. Because the Unshaken life isn't just a mindset you adopt on a Sunday morning. It's something that gets forged. And the forging happens in the fire... not before it.In this episode we're picking up where Part 1 left off and getting honest about three things that don't get talked about enough in church circles. The subtle things people are bowing to today that don't look anything like a golden statue. The private habits that either hold you together or fall apart when pressure hits. And what it actually looks like to live with confidence when the world feels like it's unraveling — not just say that God wins, but actually live like it.Because here's what Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego understood that most of us are still learning. Fear and faith can coexist. The goal isn't to never feel afraid. The goal is to keep moving in the direction of trust even when you do.In this conversation you'll hear:Why the things we bow to today rarely look obvious — and how to spot them before you're already on your kneesWhat "even if He does not" faith actually feels like to live out in real lifeWhy you can't build the muscle during the fight — the habits have to exist before the pressure arrivesThe difference between someone who says God wins and someone who actually lives like itWhat to say to someone in the hardest season of their life who's genuinely struggling to believe God is still in control

Prepared For The Pressure | Pastor Nick Teal | Unshaken
Most of us want to be steady when life gets hard. We want to be the person who doesn't panic, doesn't fold, doesn't lose their footing when everything around them is shaking. But here's the question nobody really wants to sit with — what are you building right now when nobody is watching?Because that's the whole story of Daniel 6. Not lions. Not a den. Not a miraculous rescue. It's the story of a man whose private walk with God was so consistent and so deep that when the most public pressure of his life arrived, he didn't have to figure out what to do. He already knew. For nearly 70 years across multiple empires, changing kings, shifting cultures, and new laws — Daniel did not change. His enemies searched for anything they could use against him and found nothing. Zero. His consistency was so evident that a pagan king fasted and lost sleep the night Daniel was thrown to the lions. That kind of faith doesn't show up in a moment. It's built over a lifetime of small, private, consistent choices. In this episode, we're in Daniel 6 looking at what it actually means to build a faith that holds under pressure... not just survive it, but be prepared for it long before it arrives.

God Is With You In The Fire | Unshaken
Have you ever noticed how hard it is to go against the crowd? Even in small things. When everyone laughs, you laugh. When everyone stands, you stand. The pull toward conformity is real — and it gets a whole lot stronger when standing out actually costs you something. That's exactly where Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego found themselves in Daniel 3. A massive golden statue. A king demanding everyone bow. And three men who refused. Not because the fire wasn't real. Not because the fear wasn't there. But because they had already decided — long before the moment arrived — who they would worship and who they would trust. What came out of their mouths when the king gave them one final chance is one of the most powerful statements of faith in all of scripture. "Even if He does not — we will not bow."In this episode, Pastor Kevin walks through Daniel 3 and shows us what it looks like to have a faith that doesn't fold under pressure. Not a comfortable faith. Not a convenient faith. But the kind that walks into the fire and finds that God was already there.

God Placed You Here On Purpose | Unshaken | Lakeside Church at Lake Oconee
Most of us have been there. A season we didn't choose. A place we wouldn't have picked. A life that looks nothing like what we planned. And if we're being honest, it's easy to spend that season just trying to get through it rather than actually living in it.But what if that place you didn't plan for is exactly where God intends to use you? That's the question we're sitting with in this episode as we walk through Daniel 2. Daniel and his friends are in Babylon, not by choice, and the situation gets even more intense when the king demands the impossible from his wise men and orders their execution when they can't deliver. Daniel is caught in the middle of something he didn't start, facing death over something he had nothing to do with. And what does he do? He seeks clarity. He gathers his community. He prays with real intention. And then he shows up with humility and points every bit of the credit straight to God.We talk through what it actually looks like to live on mission in a season that feels foreign. How do you stay faithful when the outcome is uncertain? What does it mean to do your work with excellence for God's glory and not your own? And how does humility, real humility, become the thing that opens doors you never could have pushed open on your own?We also take a moment to honor the moms in our lives this Mother's Day. Because if anyone knows what it looks like to live faithfully on mission in a season they didn't fully plan for, it's them.Daniel 2. A king's impossible demand. And a God who shows up when we have nowhere else to turn.

Decide Now. Stand Then. | Unshaken
Most people don't walk away from their faith in one dramatic moment. They drift. Slowly. Quietly. One compromise at a time. And if we're honest, most of us have felt that pull... the pressure to blend in, go along, and take the path of least resistance. It's subtle. It's convincing. And it's exactly what Daniel faced in Babylon. But Daniel did something that changed everything. Before the pressure came, before the cost was clear, and before he knew how it would end. He decided. In this episode, we're in Daniel 1:8-21 looking at what it actually means to live with resolved faith. Not the kind that shows up when life is easy, but the kind that holds when obedience costs you something real. We unpack why the difference between a conformed life and a transformed life comes down to one thing — what you decided before the moment arrived.Because here's the truth: you don't rise to the level of your intentions. You fall back on the level of your preparation.

Who's Shaping You? | Living in Babylon Without Losing Who You Are
Let's be honest. Culture isn't just influencing what we wear or what shows we watch. It's quietly shaping how we think, what we believe, and who we become. And the scariest part? Most of the time, we don't even see it happening. In this episode of Unshaken, we open up the story of Daniel, a young man thrown into a culture that wanted to completely rewrite his identity. His name. His diet. His beliefs. Sound familiar? Because the same pressures are hitting us today, just with different packaging. We dig into what it actually looks like to live in a world that's constantly pulling at you without losing your footing. How do you stay engaged in culture without being consumed by it? How do you hold onto who God says you are when everything around you is telling you something different? And how does your faith stay real in a world that's moving faster than ever? This conversation is for anyone who's ever felt the tension between following Jesus and fitting in. Whether you're brand new to faith or you've been walking with God for years, this one is going to challenge you to look at what's actually shaping you right now.Daniel 1. Romans 12:2. Matthew 5:13-16. These aren't just old scriptures. They're a blueprint for how to live with purpose, stay rooted in truth, and be exactly who God placed you here to be.The world needs people who are different. Not weird for the sake of it, but genuinely, powerfully different, because they know who they belong to.So here's the question we're wrestling with today: Who or what is shaping you... and is it leading you closer to Jesus or further away?

The King Who Leads Us | Jesus, Our King
Recognizing Jesus as King is only the beginning... following Him is where life changes. In the final week of Our King, we see that the risen Jesus isn’t distant or inactive. He is leading His people right now. Through His words and His authority, He calls us to step out of confusion and into a life marked by purpose, clarity, and direction.Jesus said, “I am the light of the world.” That means we don’t have to figure life out on our own. When we follow Him, He leads us into something greater than what we could build ourselves. But following Jesus isn’t just about belief. Following Jesus is about surrender. It’s choosing His way over our own, daily. The question isn’t if Jesus is King. The question is... are we letting Him lead?

The Risen King | Jesus, Our King | Easter at Lakeside Church at Lake Oconee
Easter isn’t just about an empty tomb... it’s about a living King.In this message, we’re faced with one of the most important questions Jesus ever asked: “Do you believe this?” Looking at John 11 and John 20, we see that even those closest to Jesus wrestled with what to believe. In moments of grief, confusion, and doubt, Jesus doesn’t just offer comfort; He calls for a response. Because what we believe about Jesus doesn’t just shape our thoughts… it shapes our entire life. The resurrection isn’t just a moment to celebrate... it’s a truth that demands a decision. Are we looking for a version of Jesus that fits our expectations…or the risen Savior who changes everything?Jesus is not dead. And your story isn’t over.

The King We Misunderstood: Jesus, Our King | Lakeside Church at Lake Oconee
Palm Sunday looked like a victory, but it revealed a misunderstanding. In Week 2 of Our King, we see a crowd celebrating Jesus as King, shouting “Hosanna!” and welcoming Him into Jerusalem. But while they recognized Him as King, they misunderstood the kind of King He came to be.They wanted power. Jesus came with a purpose. He didn’t come to take a throne... He came to lay down His life. Through the powerful imagery of Jesus as the Good Shepherd, we’re reminded that He doesn’t lead like earthly kings. He knows His people, protects them, and willingly steps in front of danger for them. This message challenges us to examine our own hearts: Are we truly following Jesus… or just the version of Him we prefer?Because the King we expected might offer comfort, but the King we need gave everything so we could truly live.

The King We Didn't Expect | Jesus, Our King
We all want a king… we just want one who serves us.In Week 1 of Jesus, Our King, we look at a powerful truth revealed in both Judges and John 6: the problem has never been leadership... it’s been lordship. Like the crowd that tried to make Jesus king by force, we often want a version of Jesus that fits our lives—one who brings comfort, control, and quick solutions. But Jesus refuses to be defined by our expectations. Why? Because He didn’t come to meet our demands. He came to meet our deepest needs. This message challenges us to move beyond seeing Jesus as part of our plan and begin surrendering to Him as King. Because the King we want may offer temporary comfort—but the King we need gave His life to transform everything. So the question becomes personal: Will you let Jesus be King of your life?

Jesus Is King... But Are We Letting Him Lead?
Every heart is following something. We all build our lives around what we trust most... whether that’s comfort, control, approval, or success. But the deeper question is this: Who’s really sitting on the throne of your life?In this conversation, we unpack what it truly means for Jesus to be King. Not just in what we say, but in how we live. We talk honestly about why we struggle to let go of control, how subtle things can take the place of God in our hearts, and what it looks like to surrender in everyday life. From the patterns we see in Judges to the fulfillment we see in Jesus, one truth becomes clear: We don’t just need a King who improves our lives. We need a King who transforms our hearts. If you’ve ever felt the tension between trusting God and wanting control, this episode is for you.

Bring Us A King | Wavering Hearts
The book of Judges ends in one of the most haunting statements in the Bible:“Everyone did what was right in their own eyes.” (Judges 21:25)In the final chapters of Judges, we see what happens when people become their own authority. Worship becomes self-defined, truth becomes relative, and chaos begins to spread through the nation.Through the stories of Micah, the tribe of Dan, and the moral collapse of Israel, we’re reminded that the problem was never just leadership. The real issue was lordship. This teaching explores why self-rule always leads to brokenness and why the deeper longing of the human heart is not independence, but a true King. The good news of the gospel is that Jesus came not only to forgive sin but to restore our hearts and lead us into the life we were created to live.

Faith Gets The Final Word | Wavering Hearts
Fear has a way of keeping us stuck. In Judges 4–5 we see the story of Deborah, a leader whose faithfulness helped move an entire nation from fear to courage. While Israel had lived under oppression for years, Deborah trusted God enough to speak truth and take a step forward when others hesitated. In this episode, we talk about how fear can quietly shape our decisions, why obedience often requires someone to move first, and how one act of faith can inspire courage in others. If you’ve ever felt hesitant to take a step God might be calling you to take, this conversation explores what it looks like to trust Him anyway.

Strong God. Weak People. | Pastor Jon Shaw | Wavering Hearts
Gideon hid in fear. Samson walked in pride. Both were used by God. Both wavered. Both failed. In this episode, we explore why God intentionally works through flawed leaders and what their stories reveal about our own hearts. From fear and doubt to lust and entitlement, Judges shows us that human strength is never the solution. The real issue isn’t leadership... it’s dependence. When we stop relying on God, even our greatest strengths can become liabilities. But when we surrender our weakness, His strength shows up in power. We don’t need stronger leaders. We need a stronger dependence on God.

The Cost of Compromise | Wavering Hearts
Compromise rarely feels dangerous in the moment. In Judges 1 and 3, Israel didn’t openly rebel against God, they simply stopped short of full obedience. Tribe after tribe left cities unconquered. What felt reasonable at the time became generational pain later. In this episode, we explore how partial obedience slowly reshapes our lives, how compromise moves from influence to identity to control, and why what we tolerate eventually forms us. God’s commands were clear. His promise was secure. But Israel settled. What have you left unfinished that is quietly shaping your future?

Why We Drift (And How To Find Our Way Back)
The book of Judges isn’t just history... it’s a mirror. In this conversation, we discuss about spiritual drift, partial obedience, flawed leadership, and the deeper issue beneath it all: authority. Why do we tend to forget God most when life feels stable? Why is “doing what’s right in our own eyes” so appealing? And why weren’t the judges enough to fix Israel’s problem? From Gideon and Samson to Judges 2:16–20, we explore how inconsistency rarely begins with rebellion. It begins with fading dependence. We talk about compromise, disappointment in leadership, reshaping God to fit our preferences, and what it truly means to live under Christ as King, not just Savior. We don’t break the cycle by trying harder, we break it by depending deeper. If you’ve ever felt stuck in a cycle of forgetting, drifting, and repeating, this conversation is for you.

Stuck In The Cycle | Wavering Hearts
Faith doesn’t usually collapse overnight. It erodes when God is no longer remembered. In Judges 2, we see a generation rise up who knew neither the Lord nor what He had done. What follows is a cycle of drift, compromise, oppression, and rescue. In week one of our series Wavering Hearts, we discover how forgetting God leads to destruction, how idolatry replaces remembrance, and how spiritual drift slowly misaligns our lives. But even in the cycle, God’s mercy keeps showing up. God rescues sinners. And His mercy is greater than our inconsistency.

Faith Works | Seasons: From Here To There
What does real faith actually look like?In Week Four of Seasons: From Here to There, we walk through James 2 and confront a tension many believers feel but rarely name: belief without action doesn’t change anything. James isn’t attacking faith. He’s exposing empty profession.Faith doesn’t save us because of what we do, but saving faith always moves us toward obedience. From Abraham to Rahab, Scripture shows us that faith trusts God enough to act, even when obedience is costly, inconvenient, or uncomfortable. This message is a call to move from saying you believe to living like you trust Jesus, in every season of life.

From Control To Trust | Seasons: From Here To There
When life feels uncertain, control can feel safer than surrender. In this message from the Seasons: From Here to There series, we explore what it looks like to follow Jesus when the pressure to control outcomes is strong. Drawing from James 4–5, we’re reminded that our lives are fragile, our plans are limited, and true wisdom is found not in self-reliance but in trusting God’s will. This teaching challenges the belief that control produces peace and invites us into a posture of humility—planning with God instead of apart from Him. Through Scripture and practical rhythms like prayer, fasting, and godly counsel, we discover that surrender isn’t weakness—it’s the doorway to freedom.Wherever you’re feeling pressure to manage everything on your own, this message invites a better way forward: trusting Jesus in the uncertainty.

When Desire Wants To Lead | Seasons: From Here To There
Desire is powerful, and every season of life exposes what we want most.In this message from the Seasons: From Here to There series, we explore what it looks like to follow Jesus when desire is loud. Drawing from James 1, we see how unchecked desire quietly pulls us off course through deception and ultimately leads to destruction, and why Scripture points us to wisdom before temptation. This teaching reminds us that desire itself isn’t evil, but when it leads our lives, it slowly replaces obedience with impulse. Wisdom invites us to pause, tell the truth about what we want, and surrender our desires to Jesus so He, not our cravings, can shape our lives.Wherever you are on your journey, this message invites an honest question: Who is leading your life in this season... your desires, or Jesus?
