Newcastle United 3-1 West Ham United
West Ham's survival hopes are hanging by a thread following a deeply damaging defeat against Newcastle United.Nuno Espirito Santo's side had the chance to move out of the Premier League drop zone and pile the pressure back on Tottenham Hotspur with a win at St James' Park before the Hammers' relegation rivals meet Chelsea on Tuesday night. However, given their vastly inferior goal difference, West Ham now need Chelsea to win at Stamford Bridge to realistically have any chance of staying up on the final day following this 3-1 loss on Tyneside. The stunned visitors never truly recovered after conceding two quick-fire goals in the first half on Sunday.West Ham were the architects of their own downfall for Newcastle's first after an over-hit pass from goalkeeper Mads Hermansen to Jean-Clair Todibo was pounced upon by the alert Harvey Barnes out on the right.Barnes advanced into the box and clipped the ball across to Nick Woltemade, who hooked it past Hermansen to score his first league goal since December.Newcastle doubled their lead just four minutes later when Jacob Ramsey fizzed the ball forward to William Osula and the in-form striker coolly finished through Hermansen's legs.Nuno was left with his head bowed on the bench as any semblance of a game plan went up in smoke. The West Ham manager turned to substitute Valentin Castellanos midway through the first half and the forward almost made an instant impact when he saw a volley swatted away by Nick Pope, before the Newcastle goalkeeper kept out El Hadji Malick Diouf's follow up with his legs.Osula appeared to have ended any hope of an unlikely comeback, though, when he fired home from substitute Joe Willock's cutback in the second half following a neat one-two with his team-mate.However, there was still time for Castellanos to pull one back with a superb first-time effort from distance to set up a slightly nervy finish for Newcastle. But the result leaves relegation-threatened West Ham in 18th place as Newcastle move up to 11th to keep their slender hopes of qualifying for Europe alive. This podcast has been created and uploaded by Newcastle Fans TV, the views in this podcast are not necessarily the views of talkSPORT. Nottingham Forest 1-1 Newcastle United
Elliot Anderson's late leveller against his former club Newcastle United edged Nottingham Forest closer to Premier League survival. The midfielder - who left St James' Park for the City Ground two years ago - equalised with three minutes left to lift Forest seven points clear of the relegation zone. With two games left they will be safe if 18th-placed West Ham United lose at home to Arsenal later on Sunday, with Vitor Pereira close to completing his survival mission after replacing Sean Dyche in February.Harvey Barnes' strike looked set to keep Newcastle's slim European hopes alive when the substitute pounced in the second half. That briefly lifted the Magpies up to ninth but they now sit 13th in a disappointing season following last year's fifth-place finish and Carabao Cup win.William Osula went close for the Magpies when his free-kick hit the bar and Matz Sels spilled an earlier shot from Bruno Guimaraes, while Nick Pope's second-half save from Taiwo Awoniyi thwarted Forest.Barnes struck with 16 minutes remaining when he ran onto Jacob Ramsey's pass and held off Morato to score but Anderson levelled when he collected James McAtee's short pass and gave Pope no chance from close range. This podcast has been created and uploaded by Newcastle Fans TV, the views in this podcast are not necessarily the views of talkSPORT. Newcastle United 3-1 Brighton
Harvey Barnes sealed victory for Newcastle United at St. James' Park against Brighton & Hove Albion after William Osula and Dan Burn had set them on their way.The Magpies' 23rd victory of the season in all competitions was a first in six games and Eddie Howe's side had to fight until the last kick at St. James' Park against one of the league's form teams.Nick Pope made an important save from Jack Hinshelwood inside the first two minutes - then Carlos Baleba's long range curler struck the top of the Leazes End crossbar as Brighton made the stronger start. But the home side came close themselves in the 11th minute when Osula drifted in from the left and fired just wide.Seconds later, Jacob Murphy beat Bart Verbruggen to a Bruno Guimarães ball over the top. The Brighton keeper raced from his goal to make a clumsy challenge outside his area but Murphy quickly regained his footing and crossed for Osula to head into the unguarded net for a third goal in his last four matches. And the Magpies doubled their head in the 24th minute when Burn marked his 150th Premier League appearance by heading home Guimarães' left-wing corner against his former club.Soon afterwards, a Pope clearance ricocheted off Hinshelwood and against a post but at the other end, good combination between Osula and Willock saw the latter's poked effort kept out by Verbruggen. It could have been 3-0 when Sven Botman headed Lewis Miley's ball back across goal for Malick Thiaw, but Verbruggen denied the German defender from close range.A Danny Welbeck header dropped over the bar for the visitors but United had a commanding lead at the break, with Osula shooting wide in stoppage time after a lovely turn and strong run from his own half.Osula continued to pose a threat for Albion after the break and he was the target when Guimarães raced onto Joe Willock's flick and hit a first-time low cross from the right. Jan Paul van Hecke intercepted, but Verbruggen had to adjust quickly to keep the ball out.Pope showed similarly impressive reactions to parry a close-range effort from Kaoru Mitoma, although the ball appeared to come off the Japan international's arm. Next, Hinshelwood was off target with a header, then Willock drove wide at the other end.But - after Yankuba Minteh had lofted wide - Hinshelwood pulled one back. After a sustained spell of Seagulls possession, the England under-21 man drifted into the box, controlled Welbeck's pass and finished superbly.Newcastle have dropped too many points from winning positions this season but they did just enough to hold on here thanks to Pope's late save from Charalampos Kostoulas' bicycle kick.Former Magpie Minteh could and should have levelled in the dying seconds when he was presented with a golden opportunity but blazed over from six yards out, and there was still time for Yoane Wissa to shoot off target from Lewis Hall's low centre, and Joelinton to drag wide deep into stoppage time. But then Wissa teed up Barnes to smash home with virtually the last kick to seal the victory. This podcast has been created and uploaded by Newcastle Fans TV, the views in this podcast are not necessarily the views of talkSPORT. Bristol City Women 2-1 Newcastle United Women
Newcastle United Women fell to their fourth WSL2 defeat of the season, with Jessie Gale scoring a 99th-minute winner for Bristol City Women.United took the lead early on when Beth Lumsden found the top corner after some nice edge of the area play from Jordan Nobbs, but were pegged back on the stroke of half time by Rio Hardy. Then, after the Lasses failed to clear a corner, Gale pounced on a bouncing ball in the six-yard box to score with one of the final touches of the game. With the backing of a strong away contingent, United came flying out of the blocks to put in a solid performance for their fans and could have been ahead inside five minutes.A long ball down the wing released Emily Murphy, who drove into the box before cutting the ball back to Nobbs, although the pass was slightly behind the number four, and her effort lacked conviction and fell into the arms of Lauren Brzykcy. However, the Lasses maintained their high intensity and level of performance into the 19th minute when Lumsden scored her fifth league goal of the campaign.A lofted Freya Gregory cross was only cleared to Nobbs on the edge of the area, and her calm first touch took Sophie Ingle out of the game and set up Lumsden to arrow her strike into the top corner.A two-minute spell almost saw Newcastle add a second before the break. Firstly, Murphy received the ball on the half turn before seeing her outside of the box strike take a wicked deflection and dip over the bar. From the resulting corner, Gregory played it short to Nobbs, who gave it back to the Scotland international. She aimed for the bottom corner but it rippled the side netting.Despite the Lasses playing on the front foot and looking the more dangerous side, an Ella Powell long ball in behind Jemma Purfield saw Hardy bear down on goal before calmly finishing beyond Anna Tamminen from close range. The blow of conceding just before half time didn't appear to knock Tanta Oxtoby's side as Lumsden was slipped through one-on-one with a perfectly weighted ball from Nobbs, but the number 26 could only lift her effort over both the keeper and the crossbar.United were continuing to find joy through the connection of Nobbs and Lumsden, with the former releasing the winger away again to bear down on goal, although this time she was forced to shoot off balance due to the recovery run from Gemma Lawley, making it a simple save for Brzykcy. It was all Newcastle in the second half, and they were millimetres away from retaking the lead after a hacked clearance from Bristol City saw the ball fall to Lumsden, who looked to have scored, but after a save from Brzykcy, the ball spun on the line, refusing to go over. The Robins almost hit United with another sucker punch when they swiftly counter-attacked after a wasted Newcastle free-kick that ended up with Lexi-Lloyd Smith being played in one-on-one against an on-rushing Tamminen, but it was the Finn who came out on top with a brave low save.Bristol City were becoming increasingly dangerous on the counter-attack as they worked a three-on-one situation with Lloyd Smith picking out Emily Syme in the six-yard box, but she was denied from close-range by Tamminen, before a last-ditch Jorja Fox tackle stopped Maria Farrugia from putting her side ahead on the rebound.Ashton Gate was ready to celebrate an added-time winner for the home side with Lloyd Smith delivering a perfect cross to the back post for an unmarked Gale to head into an empty net, but from a couple of yards out, the on-loan Arsenal forward headed wide.Substitute Gale was the hero for Bristol deep into stoppage time, though, with her close-range finish sending the home fans wild after United were unable to deal with a bouncing ball in the box. This podcast has been created and uploaded by Newcastle Fans TV, the views in this podcast are not necessarily the views of talkSPORT. Arsenal 1-0 Newcastle United
Arsenal regained their place at the top of the Premier League as Eberechi Eze's first-half strike was enough for the Gunners to beat Newcastle in a hard-fought match at the Emirates Stadium.Mikel Arteta's side had dropped to second place for the first time since October after Manchester City's win against Burnley in midweek had seen them go top of the table on goal difference.Arsenal started the game well and took the lead in the ninth minute through Eze after a well-worked short corner. The England international was passed the ball on the edge of the box by Kai Havertz and curled an excellent strike into the top corner.Newcastle had chances of their own through William Osula, Bruno Guimaraes and Sandro Tonali but could not find a way to score in the first half.Eddie Howe introduced Yoanne Wissa and Harvey Barnes after the break as the away side chased an equaliser. And Wissa missed a golden opportunity late on to level the match as Newcastle were defeated for the fourth league match in a row.The win moves Arsenal three points clear at the top of the Premier League having played a game more than title-rivals Manchester City. The only negative of the day for the Gunners was that both Havertz and Eze had to be substituted with injury. This podcast has been created and uploaded by Newcastle Fans TV, the views in this podcast are not necessarily the views of talkSPORT. Newcastle United 1-2 Bournemouth
Adrien Truffert fired home a late winner to extend Bournemouth's impressive unbeaten run on another damaging afternoon for Newcastle United head coach Eddie Howe. The visitors, who are now undefeated in the Premier League in a club record 13 games, looked determined to give manager Andoni Iraola a fitting send-off by finishing the campaign strongly after the Spaniard announced this week he would be leaving at the end of the season.Although Newcastle forward William Osula cancelled out Marcus Tavernier's opener midway through the second half, there was still time for another twist at St James' Park.Tavernier turned provider as he sent in a cross and Evanilson headed it down for the unmarked Truffert to fire into the roof of the net to send Iraola darting down the touchline as his side moved up to eighth place. It was a familiar story for Howe against his former club after Newcastle threw away another result late on.Howe said his fire was burning "very strongly" on the eve of this game, as his future comes under increased scrutiny, but it was Bournemouth who seized the initiative. The visitors opened the scoring when Rayan skipped away from Lewis Hall down the right and cut the ball back across to Tavernier, who bundled home from close range. There were a smattering of boos at half-time from the home support, but Newcastle responded in the second half.Evanilson inadvertently played Osula in after hooking the ball forward while attempting to win it from substitute Bruno Guimaraes in the middle of the park.Osula raced through, sorted out his feet under pressure from Marcos Senesi and slotted the ball past Bournemouth goalkeeper Djordje Petrovic.Although the goal was initially disallowed for offside by referee Tom Bramall, the decision was reversed to loud cheers from the home support following a check by the video assistant referee. But there was still time for Truffert to score a dramatic winner to leave Newcastle in 14th place. This podcast has been created and uploaded by Newcastle Fans TV, the views in this podcast are not necessarily the views of talkSPORT. Crystal Palace 2-1 Newcastle United
Substitute Jean-Philippe Mateta scored a dramatic late double as Crystal Palace came from behind to beat Newcastle United. The visitors looked to be on course for a much-needed victory following William Osula's first-half strike at Selhurst Park. But Newcastle have thrown away more points from winning positions (25) than any other side in the Premier League and Crystal Palace came roaring back late on.Newcastle breathed a sigh of relief after Jefferson Lerma's header crashed off the crossbar, but the hosts eventually equalised in the 80th minute.Daniel Munoz broke forward down the right and the defender's cross was coolly hooked back across by Tyrick Mitchell to Mateta, who headed the ball down and into the net to leave manager Oliver Glasner jumping for joy on the touchline.Opposite number Eddie Howe, by contrast, bowed his head, but the Newcastle head coach's afternoon was about to get even worse.Referee Andy Madley awarded Crystal Palace a penalty in the first minute of stoppage time when defender Sven Botman pulled Jefferson Lerma's shirt inside the box.Up stepped Mateta, who picked out the bottom right corner to the delight of the home supporters. The hosts' win meant they leapfrogged Newcastle into 13th place, as Howe's team fell to 14th.This podcast has been created and uploaded by Newcastle Fans TV, the views in this podcast are not necessarily the views of talkSPORT. Newcastle United 1-2 Sunderland
Brian Brobbey scored a dramatic 90th-minute winner as Sunderland came from behind to beat Newcastle United in a thrilling Tyne-Wear derby at St James' Park.Newcastle had been on target for their first home victory in this fixture since 2010 when Anthony Gordon gave the hosts a ninth-minute lead.Sunderland played out from the back but defender Luke O'Nien's pass was intercepted by Nick Woltemade and he gave it to Gordon, who did the rest to score his 17th goal of the season. The hosts almost made it 2-0 just before the break, but Sven Botman headed against the post following a cross from left-back Lewis Hall, one of five Newcastle players to be included in Thomas Tuchel's latest England squad. The match was paused early in the second half by referee Anthony Taylor because of reports of discriminatory abuse from the crowd towards Sunderland's Lutsharel Geertruida. After a three-minute delay in which Taylor spoke to both sets of coaching staff, Geertruida and Granit Xhaka, the visitors equalised in the 57th minute.Goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale, another called up by Tuchel, did not get great distance on a punch, the ball was played back into the box, Brobbey chested it goalwards and Dan Burn cleared off the line, only for Chemsdine Talbi to fire in the rebound.Noah Sadiki had a chance to put Sunderland ahead, only for him to shoot at Ramsdale.Yet it did not prove costly as Brobbey scored the late winner, to the delight of the away fans, when he converted a rebound from close range after Ramsdale saved his first attempt. The result gives Sunderland their first league double over Newcastle since 2014-15. Anthony Gordon bites back after Chelsea 0-1 Newcastle United
Newcastle United delivered a blow to Chelsea's hopes of qualifying for the Champions League as Anthony Gordon's first-half goal clinched a rare away win at Stamford Bridge.Gordon slid in the 18th‑minute winner in front of England manager Thomas Tuchel before the Blues were booed off at full-time, losing at home to the Magpies for the first time since 2012.Chelsea had started on top, missing a free header through Wesley Fofana before creating further chances for Alejandro Garnacho, Cole Palmer and Enzo Fernandez. But Gordon opened the scoring by slotting in from close range after Joe Willock broke Chelsea's offside trap when running on to Tino Livramento's pass. After the goal, the video assistant referee (VAR) waved away a penalty appeal after checking whether Reece James had pulled down Malick Thiaw, but Chelsea threatened again through Palmer, whose shot was saved.Having made a goalkeeping change for the fourth time in five matches, the newly recalled Rob Sanchez produced an excellent save to deny Jacob Ramsey just before half-time.Despite trailing at the break, Blues boss Liam Rosenior was proactive, bringing on striker Liam Delap for defender Malo Gusto. The substitute immediately tested Aaron Ramsdale with a shot from the edge of the box, with Garnacho later having a shot blocked by Newcastle defender Sven Botman.Referee Paul Tierney, who had been caught in Chelsea's pre-match centre-circle huddle, waved away a penalty shout when Nick Woltemade made contact with Palmer's foot inside the box.Gordon had another curling effort saved in the 69th minute, with Delap later shooting over on his weaker left foot, flicking a header wide and Trevoh Chalobah heading wide from a corner.Captain Reece James, who signed a new six-year contract on Friday, struck a free-kick against the post in stoppage time, before Joao Pedro looped a header on to the roof of the net with almost the final kick of the match. The Blues were booed off having now lost back-to-back matches at home and in Europe.Newcastle move up to ninth in the Premier League, while Chelsea remain fifth, having played a game more than Liverpool, who host Tottenham on Sunday. Newcastle United 1-3 Manchester City
Omar Marmoush haunted Newcastle United once again as Manchester City came from behind to reach the FA Cup quarter-finals.Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola had described the prospect of going to a febrile St James' Park as a "nightmare", and it certainly felt like one for the visitors after Harvey Barnes fired Newcastle in front. But much-changed Manchester City showed their powers of recovery to respond through Savinho and a fine double from Marmoush, who has now scored seven goals against Newcastle in just six games.Having knocked holders Newcastle out of the Carabao Cup last month, Manchester City have ended Eddie Howe's side's dream of returning to Wembley through the FA Cup.But it was Newcastle who started this fifth-round tie with real intent and Nick Woltemade saw a header cleared off the line by Nico Gonzalez before the hosts found a way through.Barnes beat the offside trap to latch on to Sandro Tonali's through ball before taking a touch inside on to his favoured right foot and unleashing a clinical curling effort into the far corner to take the roof off the stadium. The goal merely awakened Manchester City, though, as the visitors pinned Newcastle back and Guardiola's team drew level following a sustained period of pressure.Jeremy Doku's drilled cross from the left went all the way through to the unmarked Savinho at the back post, and the ball ended up striking the knee of the Manchester City forward and bobbling over the line.Stunned Newcastle sorely needed to regroup at half-time, but Manchester City merely picked up from where they left off after the break and took the lead in familiar fashion. This time Matheus Nunes cut the ball across from the right and there was Marmoush at the far post to lash home after taking a cool touch.Marmoush grabbed another just a few minutes later after unleashing a rocket from just outside the box, which left Newcastle goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale with no chance.Manchester City, in the process, reached the FA Cup quarter-finals for an eighth successive season. This podcast has been created and uploaded by Newcastle Fans TV, the views in this podcast are not necessarily the views of talkSPORT. Newcastle United 2-1 Manchester United
Substitute William Osula scored a superb late winner as 10-man Newcastle United inflicted Michael Carrick's first defeat as Manchester United manager.Carrick grew up watching Newcastle on the Gallowgate End, and warned his players the stadium was "tough place to go" before a ball had been kicked. So it proved - even after Newcastle midfielder Jacob Ramsey was sent off in the first half - as the spirited hosts rallied at a raucous St James' Park.It looked like both sides were going to have to settle for a share of the spoils after Casemiro's header cancelled out Anthony Gordon's penalty. But Osula cut inside the box and lashed the ball past the stunned Senne Lammens, who could only watch it hit the net in the 90th minute to send the stadium into raptures. What a contrast to the scenes in first-half stoppage time when Newcastle players, staff and supporters were furious when Ramsey was sent off for a second booking.Referee Peter Bankes felt the midfielder dived in an attempt to win a penalty when he nudged the ball past goalkeeper Lammens. But Newcastle quickly channelled their anger and Gordon was awarded a spot-kick after the forward was brought down by Bruno Fernandes inside the box.Gordon coolly placed his penalty straight down the middle of Lammens' goal to open the scoring and net his 15th goal of the campaign. But Manchester United have recovered more points (nine) from a losing position than any other side in the Premier League in 2026 for a reason, and Newcastle were not in front for long. There was still time for another dramatic twist in the ninth minute of first-half stoppage time after Manchester United midfielder Casemiro made a smart run to the near post to head home from Fernandes' free-kick.Newcastle were quickly pegged back, but the hosts regrouped at the break and a stretching Gordon had a huge chance to put his side 2-1 up, only to fire wide at the back post in the second half.Manchester United also had a couple of big opportunities to win it late on when Leny Yoro saw a header batted away by Aaron Ramsdale, while substitute Joshua Zirkzee was also denied by the recalled Newcastle goalkeeper. But it was Osula who had the final say as Newcastle climbed to 12th, while Manchester United stay in third. This podcast has been created and uploaded by Newcastle Fans TV, the views in this podcast are not necessarily the views of talkSPORT. Newcastle United 2-3 Everton
Substitute Thierno Barry scored a dramatic late winner as Everton stunned Newcastle United in the Premier League to maintain their push for a European place.Everton manager David Moyes insisted beforehand that his side were not about to give up on their dream of qualifying for the Europa League or the Europa Conference League, but the Scot acknowledged they needed to "win some really big games on the journey".This trip to St James' Park certainly fitted the bill and Everton rose to the occasion - just as they have so many times on the road this season.Even when it looked like Everton might have to settle for a share of the spoils after winger Jacob Murphy drew Newcastle level in the 82nd minute, Barry stepped up with a close-range effort to leave Moyes punching the air on the touchline.Moyes reacted similarly after defender Jarrad Branthwaite opened the scoring with a glancing header at the near post in this topsy-turvy clash after stealing a march on marker Sandro Tonali to get on the end of James Garner's corner.Disjointed Newcastle found a way to equalise after Jacob Ramsey's shot took a deflection off the sliding Branthwaite and looped over goalkeeper Jordan Pickford. But Newcastle were only level for a couple of minutes after keeper Nick Pope spilled Dwight McNeil's swerving long-range effort, and Beto reacted quickest to tap home on the rebound. It was the perfect way for Beto to repay the faith of Moyes after being handed his first start since December.Newcastle, who were fresh from booking their place in the last 16 of the Champions League in midweek, looked stunned.Head coach Eddie Howe demanded a response after the break as he turned to his bench, and substitute Murphy drew his side level with a deflected volley from Joelinton's scooped cross. But Everton showed their powers of recovery once again to immediately retake the lead after the falling Barry managed to connect with Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall's cross. The visitors managed to see the game out after Pickford made a flying save to palm Tonali's volley on to the crossbar. They move up to eighth in the table, while Newcastle stay 12th.This podcast has been created and uploaded by Newcastle Fans TV, the views in this podcast are not necessarily the views of talkSPORT. Newcastle United 3-2 Qarabag
Newcastle United cruised into the last 16 of the Champions League following another victory against Qarabag.Eddie Howe's side already had one foot in the next round after a 6-1 rout in Azerbaijan last week.Howe gave some key figures a breather for the second leg at St James' Park, as a result, but the Newcastle head coach wanted to ensure his players "didn't lose rhythm and the good feeling we had".Much-changed Newcastle duly picked up from where they left off in Baku, after again racing into a two-goal lead, but this was a night where spirited Qarabag gave a much better account of themselves thereafter.Sandro Tonali opened the scoring for Newcastle in the fourth minute after Qarabag goalkeeper Mateusz Kochalski could only parry William Osula's header into the path of the Italian, who could hardly miss to net his first ever goal in the competition.Newcastle scored another just a couple of minutes later when Harvey Barnes drilled the ball across goal and the unmarked Joelinton fired home expertly on the volley.Qarabag could have gone under, as they did after going behind so early in the first leg, but the visitors rallied to their credit. The Azerbaijan Premier League champions pulled one back after half-time when Camilo Duran skipped away from Dan Burn and finished clinically past Aaron Ramsdale to give the travelling support a moment to remember following a mammoth 2,500-mile journey.Newcastle defender Sven Botman quickly restored Newcastle's seven-goal aggregate lead when he headed home from Kieran Trippier's corner kick, but Qarabag responded once again.Qarabag were awarded a penalty after Burn handled the ball inside the box and although Ramsdale kept out Marko Jankovic's spot-kick, Elvin Cafarguliyev was quickest to react to knock in the follow up.Newcastle pushed for another, but the hosts ultimately had to be content with an emphatic 9-3 aggregate win as they set up a last 16 tie against either Barcelona or Chelsea. The draw is set to be made on Friday (11:00 GMT). The standard of English officials is alarming!
We've seen some stinging criticism from supporters, media outlets and even players/management questions some absord decisions being mae by the men who are meant to be top notch at this level. Referees and their team have got so much wrong in Eddie Howe's last three domestic games and it cost the club potentially a point away to Manchester City, luckily the other two, the Magpies sorted out the officials mess by outscoring their opponents. Lee goes through the incidents and calls for retraining for all officials or even the idea of the Premier League bringing the best foreign talent from abroad to be in charge. Hosted on Acast. Qarabag 1-6 Newcastle United
Anthony Gordon scored four goals as rampant Newcastle United blew Qarabag away to take control of their last 16 Champions League play-off tie.Newcastle head coach Eddie Howe had spoken about how the visitors wanted to "turn these moments into history and moments people talk about for a long time", and his dominant side certainly delivered with their biggest ever win in the competition at the Tofig Bahramov Republican Stadium.Qarabag had previously drawn 2-2 against Chelsea - and defeated Benfica, Eintracht Frankfurt and Copenhagen - but the beleaguered Azerbaijani champions simply could not live with the pace and potency of Newcastle's attack in a damaging first-leg.Gordon, in particular, caused the hosts untold problems on a night he overtook Alan Shearer to become Newcastle's all-time top scorer in the Champions League. It took Gordon just two minutes to open the scoring after the latched on to a through ball from marauding centre-back Dan Burn and finished coolly past goalkeeper Mateusz Kochalski into the bottom corner.Newcastle did not let up from that moment and Kieran Trippier's teasing cross was headed home by the towering Malick Thiaw at the back post just a few minutes later. No wonder stunned Qarabag manager Gurban Gurbanov used a break in play to call his players over for some much-needed instructions, but it soon got even worse for the hosts.Newcastle were awarded the first of two penalties on the night after Harvey Barnes' shot struck the arm of the sliding Matheus Silva as the Qarabag defender attempted to block a shot from inside the box.Following a review by the video assistant referee (VAR), referee Espen Eskas was sent over to his pitchside monitor to take a second look and he duly pointed to the spot.Although Kochalski guessed the right way, and got a touch to the ball, the Qarabag 'keeper could not keep out Gordon's powerful penalty. But Gordon was far from finished yet and, remarkably, the forward scored his third from the restart after he pounced on slack play from defender Kevin Medina and rounded Kochalski to make it 4-0.There was still time for Gordon to grab his fourth from the spot just a couple of minutes before half-time after goalkeeper Kocalski took the England international down inside the box.Kochalski again guessed correctly, but it was another emphatic penalty from Gordon.Qarabag, to their credit, rallied after the break and defender Elvin Cafarquliyev pulled one back from a tight angle. But substitute Jacob Murphy went on to score a deflected effort from distance to restore Newcastle's five-goal advantage before these sides meet in the return fixture at St James' Park next week. Tottenham Hotspur 1-2 Newcastle United
Jacob Ramsey fired Newcastle United to a rare away win to give head coach Eddie Howe a timely boost and keep the pressure on Tottenham Hotspur manager Thomas Frank. Both bosses had to field questions about their positions in the build-up to this crunch Premier League game at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium following a poor run of results.Frank did not hide the fact his injury-hit side were "desperate" for their first league victory of 2026 while Howe, similarly, called on his players to show "our feeling of how important this is to us" after a run of just one win in eight games in all competitions. It was Howe's team who delivered for their manager on a night a section of Spurs supporters chanted "You're getting sacked in the morning" in Frank's direction as chief executive Vinai Venkatesham watched on.Newcastle, who lined up without a recognised striker, took the lead through an unlikely scorer in defender Malick Thiaw in first-half stoppage time.Guglielmo Vicario managed to parry Thiaw's initial header from Anthony Elanga's cross, but the Newcastle centre-back was quickest to react and got there ahead of Pape Matar Sarr and Archie Gray to stab the ball into the net and send the away end into raptures.Spurs, to their credit, briefly rallied after the break and the hosts drew level from their first corner of the night when Xavi Simons' delivery was headed back across goal by Sarr and Gray hooked the ball into the net.Frank punched the air on the touchline as the stadium erupted around him, but Spurs were not level for long.Anthony Gordon danced his way into the box and fed Ramsey, who picked out the bottom corner with a clever first-time finish to score his maiden goal for the club following his summer move from Aston Villa.Newcastle held out to win just their third league game on the road this season and move up to 10th, while Spurs slip to 16th.This podcast has been created and uploaded by Newcastle Fans TV, the views in this podcast are not necessarily the views of talkSPORT. Dango Ouattara scored a dramatic late winner as Brentford ended their 92-year wait for a victory against Newcastle United at St James' Park.Brentford manager Keith Andrews had talked about how this "cauldron can rattle teams coming to town" before the game, but his high-flying side showed their mettle once more on the road to record an impressive double over the Magpies - the first time since the 1934-35 campaign in the second tier.It looked like the teams were set for a share of the spoils after Newcastle captain Bruno Guimaraes scored a penalty to make it 2-2 with 11 minutes to go.But there was still time for another twist in an topsy-turvy game when the impressive Dango Ouattara fired the ball through Nick Pope's legs in the 85th minute to leave Andrews and his staff punching the air in delight.Newcastle head coach Eddie Howe, by contrast, tasted defeat for the third game in a row in all competitions.Defender Sven Botman had headed the hosts in front from Sandro Tonali's corner in the 24th minute, but Brentford came roaring back - just like the Bees did in their 3-1 win in November's reverse fixture. This podcast has been created and uploaded by Newcastle Fans TV, the views in this podcast are not necessarily the views of talkSPORT.This time Ouattara skipped away from Kieran Trippier down the left and scooped a cross to the back post where Vitaly Janelt got ahead of Botman to head the ball down past Pope to level. The visitors had been aggrieved not to be awarded a penalty in the opening stages after Trippier tugged Keane Lewis-Potter's shirt in the box. However, they got their chance from the spot just before half-time after stand-in captain Mathias Jensen's goalbound effort struck the hand of Jacob Murphy inside the box. There was a lengthy review by the video assistant referee (VAR), but referee Andy Madley's decision stood and Thiago sent Pope the wrong way to score his 17th goal of the season.Newcastle tried to find a way back into the game in the second half as Howe turned to his bench, and the hosts showed their own powers of recovery when Guimaraes won his side a penalty following a trip by Michael Kayode inside the box.Madley pointed to the spot after consulting his pitchside monitor and Guimaraes calmly placed the ball straight down the middle to make it 2-2.But there was still time for Ouattara to net in successive games as Brentford climbed to seventh place in the table and opened up a six-point gap on 12th-placed Newcastle. Manchester City 3-1 Newcastle United
Manchester City booked a tantalising Carabao Cup final against Premier League leaders Arsenal by hammering holders Newcastle 5-1 on aggregate in a one-sided semi-final.Trailing 2-0 heading into the second leg, Eddie Howe's side needed something special in Wednesday's return game at Etihad Stadium but endured the worst possible start as Omar Marmoush's sixth minute goal set City on their way to a 10th final in the competition.Marmoush, starting in place of Erling Haaland, nipped in and saw a deflected strike loop over Aaron Ramsdale and into the back of the net, while the Newcastle goalkeeper denied Tijjani Reijnders with a stunning save shortly after. The visitors had chances to hit back but James Trafford did brilliantly to smother the ball at the feet of both Joe Willock and Anthony Gordon - and those near misses proved severe as they were punished by City thereafter.Marmoush headed in from close range on the half hour mark and Reijnders slotted in a loose ball before half-time to make certain of the tie and allow the home supporters to enjoy a stress-free second period.Anthony Elanga pulled a goal back for Newcastle on 62 minutes with a fine curling effort and Harvey Barnes had another disallowed. But the damage had long been done as Pep Guardiola's side confirmed their place in the League Cup final on Sunday, 22 March at Wembley Stadium. This podcast has been created and uploaded by Newcastle Fans TV, the views in this podcast are not necessarily the views of talkSPORT. Charlton Athletic Women 2-1 Newcastle United Women
Newcastle United Women fell to a first WSL2 defeat under Tanya Oxtoby, away to league leaders Charlton Athletic Women.First-half goals from Jodie Hutton and Katie Bradley put the Addicks ahead at the break, and while an Oona Sevenius strike just after the hour mark provided United with a platform to kick on, they were unable to rescue a point at The Valley. There were two debuts for United in London, with Kaitlyn Torpey and Ashanti Akpan coming in for Charlotte Wardlaw and Lois Joel, but they were unable to help extend the Lasses' seven-game unbeaten run in the league.Newcastle found themselves pinned back very quickly in the first half, and a lofted ball to Amalie Thestrup at the back post forced Anna Tamminen to scramble across her line and claw her effort away. However, Tamminen could do little three minutes later after initially saving Karin Muya's close-range effort; a goalmouth scramble saw the ball land at the feet of Hutton inside the six-yard box, and she made no mistake by firing her effort into the roof of the net. After that initial setback, United looked to build up some possession, with their increased efforts to get forward paying off when Elisha N'Dow blocked Beth Lumsden's volley, and while the referee waved away penalty appeals, Jordan Nobbs curled an effort towards the far corner but was denied by the diving Sophie Whitehouse. While the Lasses were pushing for an equaliser, the Addicks broke forward into the box through Muya, who was brought down by Akpan, allowing Bradley to step up and fire home into the bottom corner, sending Tamminen the wrong way.Oxtoby made a double switch at half time, bringing on Jasmine McQuade and Freya Gregory, with the latter making a swift impact on the game when her low cross from the left allowed Sevenius to run onto the ball and pick out the bottom corner with a first-time finish on the edge of the area.Despite Newcastle seeing the majority of the ball in the final minutes of the game and putting several dangerous balls into the box, they were unable to test Whitehouse in the Charlton goal and dropped down to fifth in the league. This podcast has been created and uploaded by Newcastle Fans TV, the views in this podcast are not necessarily the views of talkSPORT. Newcastle United 0-2 Aston Villa
Emiliano Buendia and Ollie Watkins both scored as high-flying Aston Villa ended their long wait for a St James' Park victory against Newcastle United. The visitors had not triumphed on Tyneside since an infamous afternoon in 2005, when Newcastle went down to eight men and team-mates Lee Bowyer and Kieron Dyer were both sent off for fighting each other. But Unai Emery's men have won more points on the road than any other Premier League side for a reason this season, and they showed their mettle away from home once again. It was the rejuvenated Buendia who opened the scoring when the Argentine brilliantly scooped the ball past Nick Pope from outside the box to silence the stadium in the 19th minute.Watkins then sealed the victory late on when the unmarked striker headed home from substitute Lucas Digne's cross, leaving the away end singing in the rain as their side moved level on points with second-placed Manchester City. That was the cue for a number of Newcastle supporters to make their way for the exits on a disappointing afternoon for their side, who would have moved ahead of champions Liverpool with a victory. The hosts went close to opening the scoring when Sandro Tonali danced past three players only to see his close-range effort kept out by the foot of goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez just seconds into the game. The outstretched Martinez also made an important save to claw away Lewis Miley's header just before half-time.But Aston Villa had their chances, too, and Pope made fine stops to twice deny Watkins. There was little the Newcastle goalkeeper could do about Buendia and Watkins' goals, as the visitors secured a deserved win. This podcast has been created and uploaded by Newcastle Fans TV, the views in this podcast are not necessarily the views of talkSPORT. Newcastle United 3-0 PSV Eindhoven
Newcastle United clinched a Champions League last 16 play-off spot following a comfortable win against PSV Eindhoven. The home support urged their side to "write the next headline" at St James' Park as they unfurled a huge banner alongside lifesize newspaper cuttings of some of the club's most memorable moments in the competition before kick-off.It did not take the recalled Yoane Wissa long to do just that after aggressive Newcastle capitalised on the first of a series of costly errors from the in-form Dutch champions.Matej Kovar could only find Bruno Guimaraes with his attempted clearance and the Newcastle captain quickly threaded the ball through to countryman Joelinton, who squared it to the unmarked Wissa to coolly lift the ball over the former Manchester United goalkeeper. After scoring his first ever Champions League goal, Wissa then turned provider to tee up Anthony Gordon as Newcastle again punished PSV for a sloppy mistake in the first half.Slack defender Yarek Gasiorowski took a heavy touch towards his own goal and Wissa pounced to slide in and knock the ball across to Gordon, who could not miss with the goal gaping after Kovar was caught in no man's land.Gordon, in the process, matched Alan Shearer's club record after scoring six goals in a single season in the competition.Newcastle grabbed a third after the break when Harvey Barnes capitalised on a weak header from PSV captain Jerdy Schouten and finished clinically from inside the box after wriggling away from Gasiorowski. The hosts counted the cost of the emphatic victory after the influential Guimaraes hobbled off with an ankle issue, but Eddie Howe's side have moved up to seventh in the standings. With a play-off secured, Newcastle could still automatically qualify for the knockout stages if they get a landmark result against holders Paris St-Germain at the Parc des Princes in their final league phase game next week.PSV, meanwhile, have slipped to 22nd.This podcast has been created and uploaded by Newcastle Fans TV, the views in this podcast are not necessarily the views of talkSPORT. Wolverhampton Wanderers 0-0 Newcastle United
Newcastle missed the chance to climb into the Premier League's top five after being held to a goalless draw at battling Wolves. The Champions League-chasing Magpies were looking for a fourth straight league win for the first time since April, but lacked inspiration as striker Nick Woltemade again drew a blank. The £69m Germany forward, who scored on his Newcastle debut against Wolves in September, now has just three goals in his past 19 games and was replaced by Yoane Wissa in the second half.Eddie Howe's side would have gone fifth with a win by two clear goals, but did not manage a shot on target until the 85th minute - although they did move up a place to eighth with this point.Rock-bottom Wolves are 14 points from safety and have other priorities, but have rediscovered their drive and - more importantly - their organisation in recent weeks. While it will be too late to save them after failing to win any of their opening 19 games, there is at least growing optimism for the future under boss Rob Edwards.Much of that comes from teenage breakthrough star Mateus Mane, who hooked a shot at Nick Pope, while Jose Sa saved late efforts from Bruno Guimaraes and Joelinton.Woltemade's goal struggles will be a growing concern for Howe - and the striker's barren spell could dent Newcastle's Champions League hopes.Just three goals in his past 19 games is not a total Woltemade or his manager would have expected after a goalscoring debut against Wolves in September. The German scored five times in his first eight matches after a club record move from Stuttgart in an impressive start to life in the north east. But that confidence has ebbed away and the 23-year-old was replaced by Wissa midway through the second half after another fruitless outing.Woltemade was not given a great deal of service, but what he did have to work with he wasted - including a glancing first-half header which he may have done better with.He still has seven goals in 19 appearances, but if he fails to re-find his shooting boots it will harm the Magpies' top-four chances.Newcastle had scored seven goals in their past three league matches - all wins - before coming to Molineux, but with just one by a striker (Wissa's goal against Burnley). The Magpies did not have a shot on target while Woltemade was on the pitch on Sunday - albeit a statistic he is not entirely responsible for - and will view a stalemate against the league's bottom side as a wasted opportunity. However, Wolves have rediscovered their fight and a point in a forgettable match was a fair result, even if Newcastle will have reasons to be deflated. This podcast has been created and uploaded by Newcastle Fans TV, the views in this podcast are not necessarily the views of talkSPORT. Newcastle United 0-2 Manchester City | Speculation of a new training ground ready
Antoine Semenyo and Rayan Cherki both scored as Manchester City took control of their Carabao Cup semi-final against holders Newcastle United.Semenyo only completed his £65m move from Bournemouth less than a week ago, but the new arrival has already made a huge impact. After netting one and setting up another on his debut, in the club record-equalling 10-1 rout against Exeter City at the weekend, the forward stepped up with a crucial opener in the first leg of this semi-final at St James' Park.Semenyo, who later had a goal disallowed, was in the right place at the right time to convert at the back post after Jeremy Doku's cross was hooked on by Bernardo Silva. No wonder Newcastle head coach Eddie Howe rued how Semenyo was eligible to play on Tuesday night following a rule change - despite already featuring for Bournemouth earlier in the competition. But Newcastle's evening got worse deep into stoppage time when substitute Cherki doubled his side's advantage after lashing the ball into the net.How Newcastle will rue what might have been after twice hitting the woodwork when the score was goalless.Manchester City goalkeeper James Trafford tipped Yoane Wissa's looping header on to the crossbar before Newcastle captain Bruno Guimaraes struck the bar with a rasping effort just seconds later.Wissa also had a golden opportunity to put his side in front early on - only to scoop the ball over the bar from close range. But it was Manchester City, the eight-time winners, who take a commanding lead back to the Etihad when these sides meet again in the return fixture on 4 February. This podcast has been created and uploaded by Newcastle Fans TV, the views in this podcast are not necessarily the views of talkSPORT. Newcastle United 3-3 Bournemouth (Newcastle win 7-6 on penalties)
Aaron Ramsdale saved three penalties in a dramatic shootout as Newcastle United defeated Bournemouth to reach the FA Cup fourth round. The former Bournemouth goalkeeper came back to haunt his former side and denied Evanilson, Alex Jimenez and, finally, Bafode Diakite in a nail-biting shootout at St James' Park after the tie could not be settled in extra time.Newcastle defender Malick Thiaw had put the hosts 7-6 up in sudden death after coolly dispatching his spot-kick.So Diakite had to score to keep the visitors in the cup - but he saw his effort saved by Ramsdale to the sound of deafening cheers. On an afternoon Newcastle supporters again paid tribute to club legend Kevin Keegan, who was diagnosed with cancer, it was rather fitting that this was another topsy-turvy game following the incredible 4-3 midweek victory against Leeds United.Barnes confidently put the hosts ahead in the second half of normal time with his 10th goal of the season after latching on to Nick Woltemade's through ball. But spirited Bournemouth responded through Alex Scott, who tapped home at the back post, after substitute Evanilson flashed the ball across the face of goal.David Brooks then put Bournemouth in front after letting fly with a sumptuous effort from 20 yards to send Andoni Iraola and his staff wild on the touchline. There was still time for another twist, however, and Newcastle were awarded a penalty deep into stoppage time when goalkeeper Djordje Petrovic took down Sandro Tonali inside the box.Anthony Gordon stepped up from the spot and, though Petrovic guessed correctly, the Newcastle forward managed to drill the ball into the bottom left-hand corner to take the tie into extra time.Barnes scored another late goal - in the 118th minute - following his dramatic midweek winner. But this game was far from over and Bournemouth substitute Marcus Tavernier got in between Sven Botman and Thiaw to poke home in stoppage time and take the game to penalties.Newcastle won the shootout, though, with the help of Ramsdale, as head coach Eddie Howe recorded just his second ever win against his former side. Newcastle United u21 0-1 Middlesbrough u21
Frankie Coulson's late strike condemned Newcastle United Under-21s to a 1-0 home defeat against Middlesbrough in the Premier League 2 on Friday night. The league clash looked to be heading towards a stalemate at Whitley Park before the young Magpies, targeting back-to-back league wins after November's 3-2 win against Burnley, fell behind in the final stages through Coulson's close-range finish.Newcastle's youngsters were unable to rescue a point against their North east neighbours in the final stages as their winless run across all competitions extended to seven matches. In their first game of 2026, Newcastle's youngsters almost fell behind in the opening 60 seconds as Adam Harrison's intended clearance from his own box was charged down by Layton Campbell but, to the goalkeeper's fortune, the ball bounced wide of the right-hand post.Kyle Fitzgerald, who arrived at St. James' Park from hometown club Galway United in February 2025, completed a positive run towards goal but the Irish winger was unable to attempt a shot at goal as Jack Daley produced a last-ditch interception inside the penalty area.Matheos Ferreira, who netted a hat-trick in Newcastle's FA Youth Cup third round win against Portsmouth last month, went close to netting his first goal of the season at under-21 level as the Ashington-born winger, who signed his professional contract with United last summer, cut inside from the left flank before drilling a venomous dipping effort wide of the right-hand post.Harrison, named on the bench for the Magpies' UEFA Champions League clash away at Bayer 04 Leverkusen, produced an important stop to preserve United's clean sheet hopes as Rio Patterson-Powell's free-kick from the edge of the box was pushed around the right-hand post by the Ponteland-born shot-stopper.In the second half, Harrison was alert to deny Patterson-Powell for a second time as the Boro winger advanced towards goal before his low drive was pushed away by the teenage 'keeper before Magpies skipper Ciaran Thompson blocked the rebounded attempt at goal. The United wingers continued to prove the main vocal points in attack as Ferreira's fizzing strike from the edge of the box, identical to his first-half effort, was spilled by Connor but the Boro 'keeper was able to smother the loose ball.Newcastle maintained their pursuit for the opening goal as Fitzgerald, who has represented Republic of Ireland at under-17 level, arrived onto Ferreira's lofted cross at the back post but his tame volley was comfortably held by Connor.United's second-string faced a testing period from the visitors after the hour mark as Baptiste drove an effort over the crossbar inside the box before, minutes later, Finch took aim from the edge of the box after picking up the ball in a dangerous position but his curling effort from the edge of the penalty area flew past a rooted Harrison.Alfie Hutchison was introduced from the substitutes' bench, making his debut at under-21 level in the process, and was unable to make a goalscoring impact as the Scottish striker, who arrived at the Magpies' Academy from Glasgow Rangers last summer, rose from Ciaran Thompson's in-swinging cross but the 16-year old's header was comfortably held by Connor.Middlesbrough hit the post through Finch as the visitors capitalised on Rory Finneran's unfortunate slip towards the halfway line but despite a dangerous counter-attack, the Boro forward's effort at goal struck the outside of the right-hand post.In the 85th minute, Newcastle's hopes of a clean sheet were dashed as Coulson fired the Teessiders into the lead as Oliver Samuels' free-kick was headed into the unamrked winger's path, who placed the ball beyond Harrison. This podcast has been created and uploaded by Newcastle Fans TV, the views in this podcast are not necessarily the views of talkSPORT. Newcastle United 4-3 Leeds United
Newcastle United forward Harvey Barnes scored an incredible 102nd-minute winner as his side ended Leeds United's unbeaten run in an all-time Premier League classic. It looked like the teams were going to share the spoils after Newcastle captain Bruno Guimaraes scored a penalty to make it 3-3 in the final minute of normal time at St James' Park. But there was still time for one final twist in a topsy-turvy game as Barnes fired home through a crowd of bodies in stoppage time to send the stadium into raptures. It was an emotional night as Newcastle supporters repeatedly sang the name of club legend Kevin Keegan, who has been diagnosed with cancer. Keegan is one of the most transformational figures in the club's history, who left his mark as a player and manager, not least as the mastermind behind the Entertainers, who challenged for the Premier League title in 1996. So it was rather fitting that this breathless game was packed with goals, drama and some cavalier defending after Leeds eventually broke the deadlock following an error from Malick Thiaw.Thiaw slipped under pressure from Dominic Calvert-Lewin deep in Newcastle's half and the Leeds forward threaded the ball through to Brenden Aaronson, who clinically picked out the bottom corner from outside the box in the 32nd minute. The goal served as a jolt for sleepy Newcastle, and the hosts quickly drew level thanks to a sidefooted finish from Barnes after Nick Woltemade deftly laid the ball off to his team-mate inside the box. But Leeds were gifted the chance to restore their lead in first-half stoppage time after the tormented Thiaw handled the ball inside the area in a tussle with Calvert-Lewin. Calvert-Lewin coolly sent goalkeeper Nick Pope the wrong way to put the visitors back in front with his ninth goal of an impressive season. But Newcastle came roaring back after the break and Joelinton headed his side level following a clever assist from captain Guimaraes with the outside of his boot. Aaronson then put Leeds back ahead once again in the 79th minute with an angled finish after Ilia Gruev pounced on a misplaced pass from Yoane Wissa to set up his team-mate. But there was still time for Guimaraes to score a penalty before Barnes struck to send Newcastle up to sixth, while Leeds remain 16th.This podcast has been created and uploaded by Newcastle Fans TV, the views in this podcast are not necessarily the views of talkSPORT. Newcastle United 2-0 Crystal Palace
Newcastle United captain Bruno Guimaraes inspired his side to victory as they began the new year with a hard-fought victory against Crystal Palace. Head coach Eddie Howe called January a "season-defining" month for his side before the game and suggested Newcastle "won't get another chance" to kick-start their league season once and for all.Yet it looked like both sides were set to share the spoils after Anthony Gordon and Joelinton had goals disallowed in the first half, and Will Hughes wasted a golden opportunity to open the scoring for Crystal Palace. But Guimaraes led by example with another big goal on home soil to break the deadlock with less than 20 minutes to go. It was Guimaraes who got there ahead of Justin Devenny to head the ball past Crystal Palace goalkeeper Dean Henderson and give the host lift-off.Newcastle have dropped some precious points from winning positions this season but, this time, Howe's team finished strongly and Guimaraes had a big hand in his side's second. It was from his inswinging corner kick that Newcastle doubled their lead after Henderson could only parry the wicked delivery, and the ball eventually fell to Malick Thiaw, who swept home.Newcastle leapfrogged Crystal Palace in the table in the process and have moved up to ninth. Palace, meanwhile, have slipped to 14th and Oliver Glasner's side are now without a win in seven games in all competitions. This podcast has been created and uploaded by Newcastle Fans TV, the views in this podcast are not necessarily the views of talkSPORT. Burnley 1-3 Newcastle United
Newcastle United survived a scare against struggling Burnley to end 2025 with a rare away win. It took Joelinton only 65 seconds to open the scoring at Turf Moor as the Brazilian got ahead of Burnley defender Hjalmar Ekdal to connect with Anthony Gordon's deflected cross and hook the ball into the net. Yoane Wissa then doubled his side's advantage from close range following a goalmouth scramble after Kyle Walker cleared the forward's initial effort off the line. But spirited Burnley rallied and defender Josh Laurent pulled one back with a volley at the back post after Armando Broja flicked the ball on to his unmarked team-mate. Although Newcastle had a string of chances to quickly restore their two-goal lead, Wissa headed wide from Bruno Guimaraes' corner while Harvey Barnes was denied by Martin Dubravka when the former Newcastle goalkeeper rushed off his line. The game became increasingly frenetic and Newcastle were a little relieved to go into half-time in front after defender Fabian Schar cleared Marcus Edwards' effort off the line.Burnley grew in belief after the break and Nick Pope made a big save to keep out Edwards' shot with his leg, and the returning Newcastle goalkeeper also went on to claw away Lucas Pires' goal-bound cross.Burnley then came mightily close to equalising when Laurent's header cannoned off the crossbar. But Newcastle captain Guimaraes sealed the win late on following a mix-up at the back as the visitors recorded just a second away league win since mid-April to move up to 10th. Burnley remain six points from safety in 19th.This podcast has been created and uploaded by Newcastle Fans TV, the views in this podcast are not necessarily the views of talkSPORT. Hosted on Acast. Manchester United 1-0 Newcastle United
Manchester United clung on to climb back into the Premier League's top five as Patrick Dorgu's stunning volley proved enough to beat Newcastle at Old Trafford.Missing seven senior players through injury and international duty including skipper Bruno Fernandes, Ruben Amorim's side also lost Mason Mount at half-time. Newcastle had eight players out missing as well. But despite Newcastle having 66% possession and Lewis Hall's thunderous strike bouncing down off the underside of the bar, Eddie Howe's side could not come up with a leveller as their dismal recent form continued. In fairness, Dorgu's first Manchester United goal was worthy of winning any game.As Diogo Dalot's long throw was cleared to the edge of the Newcastle area, Dorgu strode confidently forward and hit the loose ball as it dropped, giving goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale no chance as he touched it into the corner.Benjamin Sesko struck the crossbar before Dalot had a chance to double the home side's lead in the second period, but arriving at speed behind the visitors' defence he could not keep his shot down with only Ramsdale to beat.Newcastle ended the game camped around their opponents' box, but the home side stood firm to claim only their second clean sheet of the season, while Newcastle have now lost six of their past nine away games. This podcast has been created and uploaded by Newcastle Fans TV, the views in this podcast are not necessarily the views of talkSPORT. Newcastle United 2-2 Chelsea
Chelsea forward Joao Pedro haunted former suitors Newcastle United as his side showed their powers of recovery to come back from 2-0 down and claim a point. It looked a long way back for Chelsea at a raucous St James' Park after a well-taken double from Nick Woltemade put Newcastle in control at half-time.But no side have dropped more points - 13 - from winning positions in the Premier League than Newcastle. So the stadium suddenly felt a little nervy when Chelsea captain Reece James pulled one back with a pinpoint 25-yard free-kick just a few minutes into the second half.It then turned a little hostile when Newcastle were denied a penalty after Trevoh Chalobah bodychecked Anthony Gordon inside the box before Chelsea equalised. Joao Pedro, who opted to move to Chelsea ahead of Newcastle last summer, drew his side level. The Brazilian raced through on goal and slotted the ball past Aaron Ramsdale after capitalising on a slip from defender Malick Thiaw. It set up a grandstand finish as the game became increasingly stretched and Harvey Barnes had a glorious opportunity to win it for Newcastle late on, but the substitute fired wide on the volley to leave head coach Eddie Howe covering his face with his hands on the touchline. Chelsea remain six points clear of Newcastle in fourth while Howe's side are in 11th for the time being. This podcast has been created and uploaded by Newcastle Fans TV, the views in this podcast are not necessarily the views of talkSPORT. Newcastle United 2-1 Fulham
Lewis Miley scored a dramatic late winner as holders Newcastle United beat Fulham to reach the semi-finals of the Carabao Cup. The quarter-final looked to be heading for penalties after Fulham midfielder Sasa Lukic's header cancelled out Yoane Wissa's opener at St James' Park. But Miley headed home at the near post from Sandro Tonali's stoppage-time corner as Newcastle got back to winning ways following a damaging derby defeat against Sunderland on Sunday. The 19-year-old midfielder stepped up when Newcastle needed him most, having selflessly filled in at right-back because of injuries to Kieran Trippier, Lewis Hall, Dan Burn and Tino Livramento, who hobbled off on Wednesday night. Miley, in the process, gave Eddie Howe a crucial and much-needed victory on a night supporters repeatedly sang the name of the head coach. The youngster was one of five players who kept his place from the weekend as Howe made six changes to his side.Wissa was one of those who came into the team and he quickly made an impression on his first start since recovering from a knee injury and, indeed, since completing his protracted £55m move from Brentford in the summer.Although Benjamin Lecomte got a hand to Jacob Murphy's first-time cross, the Fulham goalkeeper merely knocked the ball into the path of Wissa, who bundled it into the net from close range. However, shaky Newcastle were not ahead for long as Antonee Robinson ghosted into space between Murphy and Miley out wide and picked out the unmarked Sasa Lukic, who powered a header past Aaron Ramsdale.Lecomte later punched away a swerving effort from Bruno Guimaraes and was kept busy, getting down to parry a low drive from Harvey Barnes and making a fine late save to claw away Miley's shot. But Miley rose to head home from the corner that followed to send Newcastle into a third EFL Cup semi-final in four seasons. This podcast has been created and uploaded by Newcastle Fans TV, the views in this podcast are not necessarily the views of talkSPORT. Sunderland 1-0 Newcastle United
Nick Woltemade put through his own net as Sunderland enjoyed a derby win to remember against arch-rivals Newcastle United. These North East neighbours renewed hostilities for the first time in nearly a decade in the Premier League on Sunday, and it was Woltemade who made a decisive contribution - but not in the way the German forward would have imagined. The second half had not long got under way when Sunderland defender Nordi Mukiele whipped a teasing cross into the box and Woltemade attempted to head the ball behind. But the club's record signing ended up directing the ball in off the crossbar and into the net to send the Stadium of Light into raptures. It felt like the roof was about to come off the stadium on an emotional afternoon for the hosts - just a day after club legend Gary Rowell died at the age of 68 following a long battle with leukaemia. Rowell cemented his place in the hearts of Sunderland fans by scoring a hat-trick against Newcastle in 1979, and Regis le Bris' fearless side built on the club's strong record against their bitter rivals. The tone was set by Sunderland supporters unfurling a huge tifo before a ball was even kicked, which depicted a black cat hunting down a magpie in a nod to the clubs' respective nicknames. And Sunderland fed off the noise of a febrile Stadium of Light from the off as forward Bertrand Traore crashed into Lewis Hall from kick-off.The remarkably frenetic nature of the game did not subside but both teams lacked composure and creativity in front of goal, particularly in the first half, with captain Granit Xhaka firing over from outside the box and defender Dan Ballard also sending a header off target. But Sunderland landed what proved to be a decisive blow after the break when Woltemade scored just the second ever Premier League own goal in the Tyne-Wear derby. The hosts went close to doubling their advantage late on, but Aaron Ramsdale made a big save to keep out substitute Wilson Isidor's stinging volley. Sunderland saw the game out to move up to seventh - five places above Newcastle. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

Newcastle United 2-1 Burnley
Newcastle United captain Bruno Guimaraes scored straight from a corner as 10-man Burnley's struggles continued at St James' Park. Guimaraes' moment of inspiration and a penalty from Anthony Gordon inflicted a sixth consecutive Premier League defeat on Burnley, who had defender Lucas Pires sent off in the first half.Burnley substitute Zian Flemming pulled one back from the spot in second-half stoppage time, after Newcastle midfielder Jacob Ramsey handled the ball, but it came too late for Scott Parker's side. The Clarets made a fearless start but fell behind when Guimaraes stepped up on home soil once again. With Burnley no doubt expecting Guimaraes to target a team-mate from Newcastle's first corner of the afternoon, the midfielder instead whipped the ball past former team-mate Martin Dubravka and into the far corner.Guimaraes become the first Newcastle player to find the back of the net directly from a corner in a Premier League game. Burnley crumbled and defender Pires was sent off just a few minutes later after taking down Anthony Elanga outside the area as the Swede raced through on goal following Gordon's defence-splitting pass.Newcastle quickly made the most of the man advantage, earning a penalty deep into first-half stoppage time when Burnley midfielder Lesley Ugochukwu handled. Although referee Stuart Attwell did not give a penalty initially, the official was sent to the pitchside monitor for a second look by the video assistant referee and ruled that Ugochukwu's arms were in an "unnatural position". Up stepped Gordon, who sent Dubravka the wrong way to score his second penalty in as many games.Newcastle pushed for a third after the break - forward Yoane Wissa made his debut for the club as a substitute after recovering from a knee injury - but Dubravka made smart saves to deny Guimaraes and prevent centre-back Maxime Esteve turning the ball into his own net.Flemming made Newcastle sweat after scoring a penalty following another VAR intervention. But Newcastle - not without a scare - saw the game out to move up to 10th place, at least temporarily, while Burnley remain four points from safety. Hosted on Acast. Everton 1-4 Newcastle United
Newcastle United head coach Eddie Howe enjoyed a 48th birthday to remember as his side ended their long wait for an away win in style against Everton. The travel-sick visitors had failed to win on the road in the Premier League since April. But aggressive Newcastle started as they meant to go on at the Hill Dickinson Stadium by scoring the quickest goal of the season so far in the top flight.Defender Malick Thiaw jumped ahead of Michael Keane to power a header past Jordan Pickford and net his first goal for the club from Lewis Miley's in-swinging corner. Though Everton rallied, initially, after going behind after just 55 seconds, the hosts only had themselves to blame for Newcastle's second goal. Not only did Everton defenders fail to clear their lines following some pinball inside the box, Pickford failed to keep out Miley's effort despite it being hit straight at him. David Moyes, unlike a beaming Howe, looked understandably furious on the touchline, but the Everton manager's evening got even worse before half-time when Nick Woltemade added a third. Tino Livramento clipped the ball down the line and Anthony Elanga hooked it across to the unmarked German, who nonchalantly lobbed Pickford from inside the area to score his seventh goal of the season.Newcastle grabbed a fourth before the hour mark when Lewis Hall's teasing cross was headed in by Thiaw at the back post. There was still time for Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall to pull one back for Everton after the midfielder brilliantly controlled James Tarkowski's ball over the line before slotting past goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale. But it was always going to be a mere consolation as Newcastle leapfrogged Everton in the table and moved up to 11th place. This podcast has been created and uploaded by Newcastle Fans TV, the views in this podcast are not necessarily the views of talkSPORT. Marseille 2-1 Newcastle United
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang rolled back the years as the veteran Marseille forward scored a quickfire double to stun Newcastle United in the Champions League. The English side's struggles away from home continued as their hosts came from behind thanks to two goals from the 36-year-old former Arsenal and Chelsea frontman at a febrile Stade Velodrome. The in-form Harvey Barnes gave Newcastle the dream start after opening the scoring with a clinical sixth-minute finish from inside the box. That followed a brilliant headed clearance off the line from Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg to deny Magpies defender Malick Thiaw. But the visitors - who have won just once on their travels this season - dropped off and allowed Marseille to dominate possession and create a number of opportunities for Aubameyang.Although he spurned a series of openings in the first half, the Gabon international looked more like his old self after the break. The second half had only just got under way when 17-year-old Darryl Bakola played a through-ball into the right-hand channel behind Newcastle's defence. Nick Pope, sensing Aubameyang was racing on to it, rushed off his line in an attempt to get there first, but the Newcastle goalkeeper was caught in no man's land as the forward finished superbly from a tight angle out on the right-hand side. Marseille made it two goals in four minutes when Timothy Weah darted past Tino Livramento down the right and picked out Aubameyang, who got ahead of Fabian Schar to hook the ball home at the near post. The goal sent the French side's manager Roberto de Zerbi dancing down the touchline in delight. And the former Brighton boss was punching the air at full-time as Marseille claimed their second Champions League win of the season to move up to 19th place in the standings, while Newcastle are eighth. This podcast has been created and uploaded by Newcastle Fans TV, the views in this podcast are not necessarily the views of talkSPORT. Newcastle United 2-1 Manchester City
Harvey Barnes fired Newcastle United to a memorable victory against Manchester City in a rip-roaring Premier League contest. Barnes, who also opened the scoring, prodded home from inside the box to secure all three points at a raucous St James' Park. Ruben Dias earlier equalised for the visitors when his effort took a deflection off Fabian Schar after Newcastle failed to clear their lines from a corner. But Newcastle showed their own powers of recovery to retake the lead a few minutes later. Jacob Murphy swung the ball into the box and, although Bruno Guimaraes' header cannoned off the bar, Barnes was in the right place to hook the ball into the net. There was a lengthy video assistant referee (VAR) check for offside, but the goal stood to send St James' into raptures once more.It was just the response head coach Eddie Howe wanted as his side bounced back following a bruising 3-1 defeat at Brentford before the international break to claim a rare win against Pep Guardiola's team. The hosts eventually found a way past towering City goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma, who earlier made three big saves to deny Nick Woltemade.City, however, will rue a missed opportunity after they had the chance to close the gap on league leaders Arsenal to a point. Guardiola's side were not happy that Newcastle's winner stood and they were also furious in the first half after they had a huge penalty appeal waved away when Phil Foden went down under a challenge from Schar. But, like Newcastle, they still had their chances to take control of the contest, with Erling Haaland denied after Nick Pope stood tall to block his first-time effort following Nico O'Reilly's pullback.Haaland, whose wait to become the fastest player to 100 Premier League goals goes on a little longer, saw an attempted chip bounce harmlessly wide after Jeremy Doku played him through in the opening stages, while Foden failed to find the target from close range after exchanging a neat one-two with Rayan Cherki. But this was to be Newcastle's evening as Howe secured his first Premier League win against City. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

Newcastle United Women 3-1 Sunderland Women
Newcastle United Women claimed derby bragging rights with a 3-1 victory over Sunderland Women at St James’ Park. The Tyne-Wear clash came alive in the second half after a goalless opening period, with Deanna Cooper breaking the deadlock before substitute Emily Murphy struck twice to seal the win. Sunderland briefly threatened a comeback when Kiera Barry pulled one back, but it wasn’t enough to halt Newcastle’s momentum. The match also saw a pivotal moment early on when Anna Tamminen saved Eleanor Dale’s penalty, keeping the Magpies level before their surge. In front of a lively crowd of 18,972, Newcastle extended their unbeaten run under interim boss Claire Ditchburn and climbed to fourth in the Women’s Super League 2 table, while Sunderland’s struggles continued as they fell to their eighth game without a win. This podcast has been created and uploaded by Newcastle Fans TV, the views in this podcast are not necessarily the views of talkSPORT. Brentford 3-1 Newcastle United
gor Thiago scored a late double as Brentford came from behind to defeat Newcastle United and extend the visitors' miserable Premier League record on the road. Harvey Barnes had put Newcastle ahead in the first half at the Gtech Community Stadium after lashing the ball through the legs of goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher from inside the box. But Brentford came roaring back after the break and the hosts drew level through Kevin Schade's header after Sven Botman could only flick Michael Kayode's long throw across the box to the forward, who nodded home.It was Brentford, rather than Newcastle, who pushed for a winner and the hosts were awarded a spot-kick by referee Stuart Attwell when Dan Burn took down Dango Ouattara inside the box. Burn, who was relieved to avoid punishment after fouling Ouattara inside the box only a few minutes earlier, was sent off after being shown a second yellow card. It fell to substitute Aaron Ramsdale, on his first league appearance for Newcastle, to try to save Thiago's penalty after a groggy Pope went off following an awkward landing. But the goalkeeper's first act of the afternoon was to pick the ball out of the net after Thiago coolly sent him the wrong way from the spot. There was still time for Thiago to add another after Malick Thiaw failed to deal with a through ball and the Brentford striker finished past Ramsdale once again. Newcastle, who have slipped to 14th place, have now failed to win an away league game since April. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

Newcastle United 2-0 Athletic Club Bilbao
Headers in each half from Dan Burn and Joelinton respectively secured the victory at St. James' Park, with Eddie Howe's side strengthening their position in the Champions League phase with a positive reaction to their midweek Premier League defeat at West Ham. Howe made two changes to the starting XI which lost at the London Stadium, with Kieran Trippier and Harvey Barnes coming into the side, a return to action for Lewis Hall as a second-half substitute rounded off a good night for the Magpies, who could have added a third late on through Anthony Elanga. This podcast has been created and uploaded by Newcastle Fans TV, the views in this podcast are not necessarily the views of talkSPORT. Ipswich Town Women 1-4 Newcastle United Women
Newcastle United Women put four past Ipswich Town Women to record their second win of the season, extending their unbeaten run to four games and moving up to sixth in WSL2. A first-half goal from Shania Hayles put the Lasses ahead at the break and set Claire Ditchburn's side up for a dominant second 45 minutes. A second from Hayles was followed by strikes from Molly Pike and a first of the season from Emily Murphy, to secure the three points, although Femke Liefting was denied a clean sheet when Kyra Robertson found the back of the net. There was also a first appearance of the season for summer signing Jemma Purfield, who came on in added time after an injury-hit start to her life in black and white. In her first game as interim manager, Ditchburn made four changes from United's previous league game, with Elysia Boddy getting her second successive start across all competitions. Hosted on Acast. West Ham United 3-1 Newcastle United
Spirited West Ham came from behind to record their first home win of the season against Newcastle United at the London Stadium. Jacob Murphy had given Newcastle the lead with an effort from the edge of the area in the opening stages - just seconds after West Ham captain Jarrod Bowen hit the post at the other end. But West Ham rallied and the hosts' eventually got their rewards when Lucas Paqueta lashed home an equaliser from outside the box.West Ham then took the lead just before half-time when the sliding Sven Botman turned Aaron Wan-Bissaka's cross into his own net. Nuno Espirito Santo's team went on to score a third in stoppage time when substitute Tomas Soucek tapped in the rebound after Pope had denied Bowen. It was the least West Ham deserved following a committed display by the hosts, who earlier had a penalty award overturned after a video assistant referee (VAR) review. Referee Robert Jones changed his mind after consulting his pitchside monitor, with the television footage showing Newcastle defender Malick Thiaw touching the ball before making contact with Bowen inside the area. But not only did West Ham go on to find a way back into the game - they won it. The Hammers remain in the relegation zone but are now three points behind 17th-placed Burnley following a first league win under Nuno since he took charge in September. Newcastle, meanwhile, have not triumphed on the road in the Premier League in seven months. This podcast has been created and uploaded by Newcastle Fans TV, the views in this podcast are not necessarily the views of talkSPORT. Newcastle United 2-0 Tottenham Hotspur
A pair of headers from Fabian Schar and Nick Woltemade sent holders Newcastle United into the Carabao Cup quarter-finals at the expense of Tottenham. Spurs have hurt a number of sides with their aerial ability this season, particularly at set-plays, but the much-changed hosts gave Thomas Frank's team a taste of their own medicine at St James' Park.Newcastle took the lead midway through the first half when Schar easily rose above Lucas Bergvall to head them in front from Sandro Tonali's corner. Spurs players protested to referee Chris Kavanagh as Tonali took the corner just as defender Djed Spence got to his feet after putting his boot back on, but the goal stood. Woltemade doubled his side's lead with his sixth goal of the season after the German met Joe Willock's scooped cross and nodded past goalkeeper Antonin Kinsky, who missed the ball completely.Spurs went close to immediately pulling one back when midfielder Pape Sarr's first-time effort forced Aaron Ramsdale into a flying save to his left. But Newcastle, who also had Harvey Barnes smack the bar with an acrobatic effort, saw the game out to reach the last eight of the competition for the fourth consecutive season. This podcast has been created and uploaded by Newcastle Fans TV, the views in this podcast are not necessarily the views of talkSPORT. Newcastle United 2-1 Fulham
Newcastle United captain Bruno Guimaraes scored a dramatic late winner as Fulham's losing run continued at St James' Park. It looked like Newcastle were going to have to settle for a share of the spoils against injury-hit Fulham. But in the 90th minute Fulham goalkeeper Bernd Leno could only parry substitute William Osula's shot into the path of Guimaraes and the midfielder took full advantage to fire home from close range.Fulham had earlier come from behind as midfielder Sasa Lukic's header cancelled out Jacob Murphy's opener. Fulham substitute Kevin whipped a teasing cross to the back post to Raul Jimenez, who rattled the crossbar with a first-time volley, with the ball bouncing inside the box and Lukic getting there ahead of Sven Botman. But Newcastle pushed for a winner and the hosts got their reward late on to build on the midweek victory against Benfica in the Champions League. Fulham, meanwhile, have now lost each of their past four games. This podcast has been created and uploaded by Newcastle Fans TV, the views in this podcast are not necessarily the views of talkSPORT. Newcastle United 3-0 Benfica
Harvey Barnes and Anthony Gordon fired Newcastle United to an emphatic victory against Jose Mourinho's Benfica in the Champions League. The unmarked Gordon opened the scoring in the first half as he calmly sidefooted the ball past Benfica goalkeeper Anatoliy Trubin at the back post following Jacob Murphy's ball across. It was Gordon's fourth goal in just three games in the competition and gave Newcastle the platform to push for another after the break.Barnes went on to double his side's lead after goalkeeper Nick Pope launched an almighty throw down the right. Benfica defender Antonio Silva misjudged it and Barnes raced through before finishing in-off the upright. There was still time for Barnes to add a third late on after Gordon set up his team-mate, who put the ball through Trubin's legs. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

Newcastle United 4-1 Bradford City
Newcastle United's defence of the Carabao Cup began with a 4-1 third round victory over Bradford City at St. James' Park. The League One leaders were backed by a sizeable and vocal away following and gave a decent account of themselves against a Magpies side which, despite seven changes from their weekend Premier League draw at Bournemouth, included eight full internationals in the starting XI.However, in the end it was a comfortable night's work for Eddie Howe's side, who so memorably won this competition at Wembley back in March. Joelinton and William Osula - both part of that historic cup-winning squad - both helped themselves to braces in front of a crowd of 51,706, with boyhood Newcastle fan Andy Cook netting for the West Yorkshire outfit. The Bantams had their tails up early on, with debutant Aaron Ramsdale fielding a low shot from Brad Halliday, born in Redcar and briefly part of Newcastle's youth set-up, inside the first minute. After Joelinton sent a piledriver over the bar at the other end, Ramsdale made a good save to keep out a deflected effort from Bobby Pointon, then palmed away a cross-shot from Halliday from the resulting corner. But United never really looked back once Joelinton gave them the lead in the 17th minute. The Brazilian was making his 21st League Cup appearance for the club, moving him to joint third of all-time, and his fifth goal in the competition came when, following an incisive move, Anthony Gordon's shot was blocked but fell kindly for the Brazilian, who slotted home at the Leazes End.Two minutes later, Osula doubled Newcastle's advantage with his second goal of the season. Captain Bruno Guimarães slid him in and the Danish forward finished well.Osula then saw a left-footed strike blocked by the legs of Sam Walker after he raced onto Anthony Elanga's pass, then the Bradford goalkeeper denied Gordon after the England winger shot from range.A clever turn inside the box from Osula drew another save from Walker before Guimarães fired well over as half time approached.United continued to push in the second period, with Joelinton heading off target from an Elanga delivery then Gordon testing Walker once more. The visitors had a rare opening when Stephen Humphrys headed straight at Ramsdale, before Guimarães clipped the top of the bar after connecting with Lewis Hall's cut-back.Elanga was thwarted by Walker then, in the 68th minute, Gordon dragged wide, but United made it three in the 75th minute with Joelinton on target again. Guimarães teed him up and his compatriot slotted beyond Walker for his sixth goal in the League Cup. That moved him above Gavin Peacock into sixth in the all-time list. The Bantams scored a consolation through substitute Cook - a fine finish from the Bishop Auckland-born veteran. However, the Magpies booked their place in the fourth round draw, with Harvey Barnes twice coming close to adding further goals before Osula scored the fourth from close range late on, and Cook, no doubt, will now be hoping Howe's men can lift the cup for a second season in a row while Bradford aim for back-to-back promotions. This podcast has been created and uploaded by Newcastle Fans TV, the views in this podcast are not necessarily the views of talkSPORT. Bournemouth 0-0 Newcastle United
Nick Pope denied substitute Justin Kluivert a late winner as Newcastle United and Bournemouth played out a goalless draw at the Vitality Stadium. Dutch forward Kluivert had a chance to win it for the home side in stoppage time, but Pope parried his free-kick from the edge of the area. It was the only chance of note in the second half in a game lacking goal mouth action on the south coast.Bournemouth have made their best start to a Premier League season and the in-form hosts had look to strike early against much-changed Newcastle. An enterprising run from David Brooks set up Tyler Adams in the opening stages, but the midfielder's stinging effort was kept out by Pope's foot.Newcastle, who lined up with a back three, also went close early on but Jacob Murphy had a shot blocked at the near post by Bournemouth goalkeeper Djordje Petrovic. It proved the visitors' only effort of note. Newcastle's record signing Nick Woltemade later had a penalty appeal waved away after Bournemouth defender Bafode Diakite grabbed hold of his shirt inside the box in the second half.Bournemouth fans, meanwhile, were furious when Newcastle defender Malick Thiaw avoided a second booking after substitute Ryan Christie was brought down outside the box late on. But both sides ultimately had to settle for a share of the spoils - just as they did in the corresponding fixture last season. This podcast has been created and uploaded by Newcastle Fans TV, the views in this podcast are not necessarily the views of talkSPORT. Newcastle United 1-2 Barcelona
Marcus Rashford's latest stop on the road to redemption has led him to Barcelona and one of the elite stages in the global game. The 27-year-old England forward who lost his way at Manchester United and was brutally exiled by head coach Ruben Amorim may have finally landed on his feet on loan at Barcelona, under the expert guidance of head coach Hansi Flick. Many observers felt Rashford was fortunate to be afforded such a platform following an earlier loan spell at Aston Villa that was hardly stellar, and which was ended prematurely by a hamstring injury. He will be as aware as anyone that if he falls short at Barcelona, he is unlikely to get another shot at a club of this stature. And yet, in the space of nine stunning minutes of Barcelona's opening Champions League meeting with Newcastle at St James' Park, Rashford delivered a reminder of the thrilling talent he used to be - and still has time to be again. To make Rashford's night even better, it was all done in front of watching England head coach Thomas Tuchel, who retains enough faith to keep including the forward in his squad despite the fact he has become something of a wandering star.Rashford had hinted at what was to come in fleeting first-half moments, especially when an extravagant dummy left Kieran Trippier trailing in his wake, only to spoil his good work with a poor finish. It all changed on 58 minutes when he opened up what had been a tight encounter, getting on the end of Jules Kounde's right-wing cross to plant a firm header beyond Newcastle keeper Nick Pope's right hand. This was Rashford's first Champions League goal in almost four years and his first for Barcelona. What followed nine minutes later was arguably the finest moment he has produced in recent memory. He collected possession 20 yards out before, in the blink of an eye, flashing a stunning finish past Pope, the strike made even more spectacular because it kissed the bar before hitting the back of the net. Newcastle's keeper barely saw it, let alone had a chance to do something about it.Rashford turned away to accept the acclaim of Barcelona's fans perched high in the Leazes End, the previous taunts of Newcastle's supporters silenced. The cameras cut to Tuchel, who was not moving a facial muscle but who must have surely been smiling inside at two such significant contributions. This podcast has been created and uploaded by Newcastle Fans TV, the views in this podcast are not necessarily the views of talkSPORT.
