The Listening Room: Guitar Talk

Patrick Clinton is a singer songwriter in the Southeast Michigan music scene. He writes folk songs. He sings in the style of 1950s and 1960s folk singers, and plays guitar. Some of the songs he's written are comical, and others are serious.

Chris Canas fronts a band which is very active in the Southeast Michigan music scene. He's also a DJ. His singing and guitar shredding are top notch. Many of the songs he has written are soulful blues, featuring the theme of growing up around the Detroit area.

Sydney Timbrook holds a BA degree in classical guitar from Eastern Michigan University. She plays in many jam bands in the Southeastern Michigan music scene.

Ray Brown is a talented singer and rapper. He performs in Southeast Michigan, as well as Northwest Ohio. His nad percussion skills are top-notch, and he plays the congas for us during this episode.

Joe Tuckey is the drummer from the Tecumseh Big Band. They play 1940s era music with a full lineup. Joe is well versed in jazz, and brings his own style and leadership the the music.

Emily Slomovitz teaches lessons at OZ's music store in Ann Arbor. She plays the fiddle, is classically trained, and performs with the band Gemini.

Kat Steih is a vocal teacher, and the lead singer of the band "The Ferils".

Stuart Benbow is a singer songwriter, who is active in the Southeast Michigan music scene.

Joyce Lancaster is the lead singer of the band 42 North.

Brett Maynard is a performer from Southeast Michigan. He plays guitar and sings. He uses a looper for some of the songs.

T is an upright bass player. He is active in the Detroit and Toledo jazz scene.

Phil McMillion is a talented singer songwriter.

Dan Kesterke is a professor of music at Siena Heights University.

Doug Larsen is a singer songwriter, active in the music scene.

T Kinks Heiss is a local vocalist who fronts a Robert Plant tribute band.

Jordan Schug runs the Independent Strings Program in Detroit. He is an accomplished jazz bassist and cellist, writes original tunes, and improvises.

Bill Arnold is a seasoned guitarist, singer, and songwriter in the Southeast Michigan music scene.

John Delcamp leads a group known as the Nitpickers.

John Louis Good is a singer/songwriter who is active in the Michigan music scene.

We interview Cameron Getto, a singer/songwriter who is active in the Michigan music scene.

Chris Bagynee is known as "Bodgen", and has played in many semi-famous Michigan bands, dating all the way back to the 1970s.

Judy Banker is a singer/songwriter who is active in the Michigan Music Scene.

Scott Fishkind joins us in the Listening Room. Scott has a degree in piano from Berklee College of Music. He was a Nashville musician and teacher for many years, and has recently relocated to the Southeast Michigan music scene as a singer songwriter on guitar.

Special Guest Jesus Sanchez is a local music teacher for the Tecumseh Michigan school district. He hold a degree in jazz guitar from the Univeristy of Michigan. He uses a MIDI powered guitar to play all the instruments found in a jazz quartet.

This week Andy and Michael interview local legend Mike Gentry. Besides attending GIT in Hollywood in the 1980s, and then working for Capital Records, Mike has a lifetime of experience on stage. He has become a great singer songwriter, and hosts many open mic nights here in Michigan.

This week Andy plays mandolin, and we take a listen to his track "Behind Those Eyes", and watch the music video. Michael plays his slide cigarbox ukulele, and we listen to one of the tracks from his album 60-2024.

Andy and Michael interview local musician Mark Huff. Aside from being a great guitar player, Mark is a terriffic singer and songwriter. He's known for the band "the Stratoloungers".
