The Saturday Space: Crawley Town 2-0 Gillingham
Just when you thought it couldn’t get any worse…Gillingham’s trip to a Crawley side that hadn’t won since January 31 offered a chance to potentially claim victory over a side whose form was every bit as shaky as our own. But, with the match televised live on Sky Sports+, the entire Gills fanbase had the opportunity to watch their side capitulate in stoppage time as they conceded two incredibly soft goals to lose 2-0.It means Gillingham’s awful run of form continues with our fifth straight defeat, and on this week’s show, Tom Jasper is joined by Dave Miller and Luke Teachen as they offer a no-holds-barred assessment of the club, and the players currently representing us on the pitch. MK Dons 3-2 Gillingham: Not quite OK at MK
The blip was an inevitability, and now it’s here. After a remarkable undefeated run that stretched back 21 league games, the Gills lost out against Harrogate Town at home last weekend. And on Saturday, they fell to back-to-back defeats with a 3-2 reverse at MK Dons.Goals from Seb Palmer-Houlden and Jonny Williams gave the scoreline a veneer of respectability, but in truth the Gills had been outmaneuvered and outplayed at Stadium MK as a Gills side without manager Gareth Ainsworth – recuperating after heart surgery earlier in the week – gave themselves too much to do after falling three goals down away from home.As the dust settled on the Gills’ second defeat of the season, Tom Jasper took the helm for the post-match podcast as he unpacked the day’s events, as the Gills produced aruguably their least impressive performance of the season so far. Newport County 1-3 Gillingham: Record broken at Rodney Parade!
Gareth Ainsworth’s Gillingham rewrote the club’s record books at the weekend, as they came from one goal down to win 3-1 away at Newport County. The Gills fell behind in the opening 30 seconds, and Glenn Morris had to save an eighth-minute spot-kick as the team found themselves under the cosh in the opening minutes at Rodney Parade. But a stirring fightback in the first half with two goals from Bradley Dack (the second from the penalty spot), and an early contender for Gills’ Goal of the Season from Jonny Smith saw the Gills transform their fortunes to go in at halftime 3-1 up.The team held firm in the second half, and could even have added to their lead, but in the end, they kept their shape and their professionalism to ensure they ran out 3-1 winners. It meant the Gills extended their current undefeated streak to 21 league games to set a new all-time club record, and on this episode of The ME7 Podcast, Tom Jasper and Emlyn Timmons look back at that victory, and discuss the club’s remarkable run of form under Ainsworth.Photo: https://x.com/thegillsfc This is a public episode. Gillingham 1-0 Notts County: TWENTY GAMES undefeated!
Gareth Ainsworth’s Gillingham put themselves into the record books with a 1-0 win over Notts County as they equalled the club’s all-time record with its 20th consecutive league game without defeat.Josh Andrews’ towering header proved the difference on the scoreboard, but in truth, Gillingham were far the better side on a day where they squeezed the life out of a County side that just couldn’t handle the pressure applied by Ainsworth’s tireless Gills side. After another successful day at Priestfield, Owen Stanley jumped on X Spaces to give his live reaction on Saturday night, and you can recap his matchday review on this week’s episode of the pod. Bromley 2-2 Gillingham: Fighting back for a point
Gillingham games in front of the Sky cameras tend to go badly, and 20 minutes into their away game at Bromley on Saturday night, it seemed like an all-too familiar scene. The Gills were 2-0 down and looking all over the place at the back. But, after doing enough to avoid further damage, they came out in the second half and produced a much-improved display as they rolled up their sleeves and fought back into a game that looked dead and buried earlier in the afternoon.Josh Andrews’ spin move gave him space to head a Remeao Hutton throw into the far corner, and a charging stoppage-time run in behind the Bromley defence by new signing Garath McCleary led to the referee giving the Gills a generous penalty. After being denied a clear pen for a blatant shirt-pull on Andy Smith in the first half, it seemed like an example of decisions evening themselves out – but it was a very fortunate call.Sam Vokes calmed the situation by holding on to the ball and giving every indication that he’d be the one taking the spot-kick. But, when the moment came, he tossed the ball to Max Clark, who smashed the penalty into the net to send the travelling Gills contingent crazy. It was a mad game, and one that could so easily have ended in the Gills’ first loss this season. But in the end, that now-familiar fighting spirit and “refuse to lose” mentality helped drag us back into the game and we came away with a hard-earned point. In the latest episode of The ME7 Podcast, host James Hawkins is joined by fellow Gills fans Kris and Emlyn as they recap the weekend’s events as the Gills sit top of League Two, undefeated in 19 games. Deadline Day Special: Gills sign THREE!
Transfer Deadline Day may be dominated by the big spenders of the Premier League, but down at Priestfield it was a busy day, with the club completing a hat-trick of key signings before the 7:00pm deadline. First to arrive was 19-year-old Watford defender Travis Akomeah, who joined on a short-term loan until January to bolster Gareth Ainsworth’s defensive options. He was joined late in the afternoon by the season-long loan of Wigan Athletic winger Jonny Smith, who arrives at Priestfield with rave reviews from the Latics fans to give the Gills more attacking impetus from out wide. But the Gills weren’t done there. With the window closing, the club announced the signing of former Wycombe winger Garath McCleary, who left the Chairboys by mutual consent on August 31. His arrival will see the 38-year-old team up with former boss Ainsworth and former teammate Sam Vokes at Priestfield. On this episode of The ME7 Podcast, Owen Stanley took the helm as the show went live for the closing minutes of the summer transfer window. Owen was joined by Simon Head, Tom Jasper, James Hawkins and Fred Perry as they discussed the activity on a lively Deadline Day at Priestfield.Photos: @TheGillsFC on X This is a public episode. Oldham Athletic 0-1 Gillingham: It's that good August run again!
We’re six games into the 2025-26 League Two season, and Gillingham are sitting proudly at the top of the table. It’s something to celebrate, for sure, but we all know that we’ve been here before. Even last season, we started strongly before the wheels well and truly came off after the first dozen games.Despite that, it still feels good to say that the Gills are top of the league, and they got there from another hard-earned victory, this time at Oldham Athletic. The hosts had plenty of chances of their own, but it was Gareth Ainsworth’s side who proved more efficient in front of goal, with summer signing Sam Vokes coming off the bench to head home a corner from the returning Max Clark for the game’s crucial goal.On our post-match recap pod, James Hawkins chats with fellow Gills fans Dave Miller to look back at another workmanlike, but ultimately successful, Gillingham away performance as the team extended its undefeated run to 18 games.
