Jowls, Jiggly Bits & THE Best Kylie Mole Impersonation

As Jimmy Eat World once sang, ‘It just takes some time, little girl you’re in the middle of the ride.’  Well, we’re not little girls, we’re middle aged mummas, but we’re sure in the middle of it, as Fonz can attest to at the start of the show.  Also, Mez is fully feeling like the bank of mum and dad right now, along with being the designated driver - when did life get so hectic?Midlifer Moment: Wrinkles, Love Handles & Jiggly Bits is our first segment on the show this week.  They say your body changes at 40, and they were right.  But it’s a weird mix of accepting our bodies ain’t what they used to be, and screeching when you unexpectedly catch a glimpse of yourself in the mirror.  Either way, we’re having a chat and a laugh about it, and our jiggly jowls this week.If you grew up in Australia in the 80’s and 90’s, you would remember these two great shows, which battle it out in our Who Did it Better Battle this week: The Comedy Company vs Fast Forward/Full Frontal.  So many great characters and catchphrases, from Uncle Arthur to Milo Kerrigan - oh, and we gotta say, Fonz does THE BEST Kylie Mole impersonation 👌It’s real, it’s nostalgic, it’s half an hour of nodding your head and having a laugh with two besties. We hope you enjoy the show!!****🎟️HERE IS THE LINK TO OUR LIVE! https://tr.ee/Q2HFaViSGt ****Come meet us on April 19th at Trainscendence in Collingwood, Melbourne at 4pm 🎤We are on Substack! Online Trolls & Buffy the Vampire Slayer Deep Dive

Mercury in Retrograde - is it a thing that really affects us?  Fonz says yes, Mez says…hmmm…well she’s too busy getting annoyed at her teen son who is costing her money and her marbles.  That’s how we start this week’s show. Our first segment, Don’t be a D!ck, is all about online etiquette.  Don’t be a troll - you’d think that would go without saying, wouldn’t you?  Don’t write in all caps, and if we make a spelling error, expect us to be like, ‘der’ - yes we suggest ‘der’ should make a comeback at the response of any trolling from now on.Then it’s on to our Deep Dive, where we get into the best vampire show that ever was, Buffy the Vampire Slayer.  From the casting, to the characters, to the episodes that live rent free in our heads, some 25 years later.  We were shocked to hear about the unexpected passing of one of its main stars over the weekend, Nicholas Brendon, RIP.  We hope this episode, recorded a few weeks back, gives you some smiles as you come along the nostalgic Buffy journey with us.As always, thanks for listening or watching, and don’t forget to follow!****🎟️HERE IS THE LINK TO OUR LIVE! https://tr.ee/Q2HFaViSGt****Come meet us on April 19th at Trainscendence in Collingwood, Melbourne at 4pm 🎤❗We are on Substack! 90s & 00’s Party Drinks + Our Hangover Food Fixes

This week on The Midlifers Podcast, Mez and Fonz kick things off with some classic midlife chat. Mez has been deep in renovation mode and declares there’s no time you look worse than when you’re renovating - covered in paint, dust and wearing the same old clothes for days. Mez also offers a competing theory: the true peak of unattractive moments might actually be the dreaded passport photo. We swap stories about their worst passport snaps and why those photos seem determined to capture the absolute worst version of your face (i.e resting bitch face). In our nostalgic “Do You Remember?” segment, we head straight back to the 90s & 2000’s party scene, reminiscing about the colourful drinks that fuelled so many questionable decisions back in the day. This week we’re also trying some flavoured vodkas from Bunsters, and let’s just say they were an absolute hit on the show. Whoever had the bright idea to make the Snickers inspired flavour called Chockers - we salute you 🫡Then it’s time for Food, Glorious Food, where we tackle one of life’s great recovery questions: what is the best hangover food? From greasy classics to carb-heavy comfort food, we debate the ultimate cures after a big night out. Whether you were a bacon-and-eggs person, a Macca’s drive-through survivor or someone who swore by something a little more unusual, this segment will bring back plenty of memories.Expect laughs, nostalgia, and a few questionable beverage choices along the way.🎧 Subscribe to The Midlifers Podcast and join us every week for nostalgic chats, midlife humour and pop culture throwbacks.🍹Our ‘Do You Remember’ segment was brought to you by the awesome ‘Bunsters’, and their delicious flavoured vodkas.Get yours here (if you’re over 18, of course)  https://www.bunstersworldwide.com.au, and use MIDLIFERS for 10% off your order! Check out their socials too, very funny https://www.instagram.com/bunstershotsauce/And don’t forget, drink responsibly! ❗We are on Substack! Punky Brewster, JTT & Movie Soundtracks We Still Love

This week on The Midlifers Podcast, Mez and Fonz kick things off with a hilariously wholesome story about teenage rebellion - involving sneaking out of the house, lighting a candle, and… walking around the block because there was literally nowhere else to go. From one-on-one chats with teenagers to the shock of realising we’re now at the age where colonoscopies are part of the group chat, the opening conversation swings between innocence, ageing realities, and laughing at how wildly different life looks in midlife. Our first segment, Where Are They Now?, was inspired by our wonderful regular listener, Midlifer Tash 💖, and dives into beloved 80s and 90s child stars. We revisit Punky Brewster and chat about what became of Soleil Moon Frye, including unforgettable storylines that traumatised a generation. We also check in on heart-throb-turned-private-citizen Jonathan Taylor Thomas, from Home Improvement fame to voicing young Simba, and why his quiet life off-grid feels like a win. Then it’s time for Besties: Movie Soundtracks, as we celebrate the films that embedded songs into our DNA. From Romeo + Juliet to Top Gun, Dirty Dancing, Grease, Forrest Gump and beyond, we talk about why soundtracks hit differently when you owned them on CD, cassette or VHS — and why modern movies just don’t burn themselves into memory the same way. Bonus Ep: Elisabeth Easther, our Midlifer of the Month

This month’s bonus episode is a very special one as we welcome our Midlifer of the Month, Elisabeth Easther - writer, actor, voice artist and all-round creative force. From the jump, the conversation flows through creativity, midlife reinvention, and the reality of staying the course in creative industries where rejection is part of the deal.Elisabeth takes us behind the scenes of her novel Seed - from its beginnings as a story driven by lived experience, to becoming a play, and then returning to life as a book after years of persistence, rewrites, near-misses, and what she beautifully describes as a “very long birth.” We talk honestly about ambition, disappointment, hope, and why giving up is the one guaranteed way things won’t happen.Along the way, we cover everything from acting life (including Shortland Street, voiceover work and unexpected career doors opening and closing), to creativity requiring tension, the importance of friendship, embracing imperfection, environmental values, and bridging the Aussie–Kiwi divide. There are laughs, thoughtful moments, and plenty of classic Midlifers tangents - just the way we like it.👉 If you’re new here, don’t forget to check out our back catalogue for our regular full-length episodes, where we deep dive into Gen X & Millennial nostalgia, midlife confessions, culture, and all the things no one warned us about.✨ Follow, rate, and share the episode📚 Bonus eps drop monthly — regular episodes weekly📕Find Elisabeth's new novel, Seed, here https://www.penguin.com.au/books/seed-9781776951079❗We are on Substack! The Grass Isn't Greener & Battle of the 90's Divas

This week on The Midlifers Podcast, Mez and Fonz kick off with a wide-ranging midlife chat that covers everything from lollipop ladies and awkward etiquette, to scary movies you absolutely shouldn’t watch alone — especially if you still believe in bad energy following you home. There’s also a very honest reflection on how getting older changes what we can tolerate, what scares us, and how our perspective shifts once motherhood enters the picture. Our first segment is a Midlife Moment: The Grass Isn’t Always Greener, where we unpack the realities behind things we once wished for. From growing up with big boobs (or wishing you had them), to body confidence, relationships, marriage, independence and even content creation, we talk candidly about how every “other side” comes with its own set of challenges - and why gratitude often comes later than we’d like. Then it’s time for Who Did It Better: 90s Diva Edition, as we take on the near-impossible task of comparing two vocal powerhouses - Whitney Houston and Mariah Carey. We dive into their careers, voices, iconic moments &surprising fun facts, debating powerhouse vocals versus whistle notes - and whether it’s even fair to pit two legends against each other. As always, expect laughs, nostalgia, honest reflection and a whole lot of midlife perspective. ☕ Grab a cuppa and join The Midlifers.❗We are on Substack! Board Game Battles & Our World Record Mankiest Bra

This week on The Midlifers Podcast, Mez and Fonz kick things off with classic midlife banter, including Fonz casually admitting to eating a log (yes, really), and Mez firmly defending herself against any suggestion she’s turning into a Karen. We get into the laughs quickly this week, and it doesn’t stop there. Our first segment is Do You Remember: Board Games; the games that dominated living room floors growing up, and we still play to this day. From the competitiveness that brought out our worst traits, to the arguments and inevitable flipped boards, we let you in on some stories from our board game past, including a Trivial Pursuit ending that stunned Fonz and her family.  Let’s just say it was one of Mez’s crowning glories. Then it’s time for Confessions: Undies & Bras, and things get very honest, very quickly. We share our confessions and underwear situations we’re still holding onto - from bras that should’ve been retired years ago to commando situations. Tuppaware, Only Fans & Ben Stiller

Geez this week’s episode is a doozy, with our regular nostalgia and fun, and a story from Fonz that will have you crying with laughter.First we wanted to start with a thank you to some of our Midlifers who have put some pep in our step by supporting us, and reaching out to us when we were a bit down with the struggles of being a small, independent podcast.  You Midlifers came to the rescue with your kind words and support - thanks so much 💖Fonz went to see Oasis recently and was the meat in the middle, and got an unexpected kiss - she just wanted to watch the show! But a good question came out of it - do you actually know the full lyrics to a song…or just think you do?Our first segment, Then & Now, has us looking at side hustles.  From Tuppaware & Bessemer parties in the 80’s, to Feet Finder & Only Fans today, side hustles have evolved, and it looks like there is something for everyone!  In our Who Did it Better Battle, we have two Ben Stiller comedies from the late 90’s and early 2000s - There’s Something About Mary vs Zoolander.  Both hilarious movies with some truly memorable scenes that had us howling - but which movie did it best? So, grab a cuppa, sit back and laugh with us as we head down memory lane.  Fonz & Mez & our lovely Midlifers!✨ Like, follow, and share with your friends — new episodes every week!‼️ If you have any thoughts or comments on the show, we’d love to hear from you! Race Day Do’s & Dont’s & The TV Chefs We Love 🧑‍🍳

We’re two midlife mums keeping it real - serving up laughs, nostalgia, and a healthy dose of Aussie humour every week on The Midlifers Podcast. In this episode, Fonz and Mez are celebrating a huge shout-out from bestselling author Rachael Johns, who called The Midlifers “worth listening to” in her blog. Indeed we are! We chat about what it’s like building a podcast as “Z-grade celebs,” the highs and lows of chasing your creative dreams, and why we still do it (hint: we love it!).Mez also talks about her recent Halloween realisation - 1st kid gets the best costume in the world. Third child gets whatever random thing that can be turned into a 'costume' with the least amount of effort. Forget about neglected middle child, the third gets scraps! Then, it’s our Don’t Be a Dick segment - and this week we’re tackling race day etiquette. From Melbourne Cup fashion faux pas and champagne smuggling to ‘popping a squat’ - we’ve seen it all. Finally, we dish on our favourite TV chefs, from Nigella Lawson’s midnight snacks to Jamie Oliver’s rustic charm, and of course, the unfiltered genius of Gordon Ramsay. Expect opinions, nostalgia, and plenty of giggles as always. So grab a cuppa (or a cheeky bubbles), and join The Midlifers - where midlife meets mischief.‼️ If you have any thoughts or comments on the show, we’d love to hear from you! Sealed Sections & The Ultimate Girl Band Battle

We’re two midlife mums sharing laughs, nostalgia and a bit of everyday chaos, because life doesn’t have to be serious. Together, Mez and Fonz embrace it all! This week on The Midlifer’s Podcast, Fonz discovers she’s today years old when she realises the classic children’s book Spot was actually named after trying to spot the dog. Mind blown! Meanwhile, Mez is ready to break free and sing wherever she wants, family approval or not. Let the woman sing!In our nostalgic, ‘Do You Remember?’ segment, we flip through the old school magazines of our youth and adulthood. Think Dolly Doctor, Girlfriend, Smash Hits, New Idea and those cheeky sealed sections we definitely read under the covers with a torch. Although, without knowing, teenage Mez & Fonz unsealed that section in public with a surprising jumpscare. Then it’s Girl Power time in the, ‘Who Did It Better Battle’: The Spice Girls vs The Pussycat Dolls. Who ruled the pop charts and who ruled our hearts? Was it really just Nicole Scherzinger doing all the work? Controversial. But remember, The Midlifers come from a place of nostalgic love and memories. Expect laughs, pop culture throwbacks and a 2000s nostalgia overload from your favourite midlife duo.‼️ If you have any thoughts or comments on the show, we’d love to hear from you! 80s Kids vs Today + The Great Milo Chat

We’re two midlife mums sharing laughs, nostalgia and a bit of everyday chaos - because midlife doesn’t have to be serious! This week on The Midlifers Podcast, Fonz ponders a very important question - what actually happens in the back of a police divvy van? Do the crims just roll around back there? Meanwhile, Mez has started a new health plan before Christmas, getting a head start on feeling good for the silly season. (And great news, we’ll be joined later in the year by a special guest from Body Be Well for some health tips!)In our ‘Then & Now’ segment, we look back at how we had fun as kids in the 80s compared to how kids have fun today - from backyard shenanigans and playing with the neighbours to the rise of digital devices that it’s all about nowadays. Then in ‘Food, Glorious Food’, we celebrate one of Australia’s greatest inventions: Milo! After so much feedback on this malty drink a few episodes back, we thought we’d do a bit of a deep dive and compare the variations, the flavours and the memories of this awesome powdery goodness.Expect nostalgia, laughter, and plenty of “we remember that!” moments. So grab a cuppa (or a Milo!), and join The Midlifers for your weekly dose of fun, friendship, and midlife realness.‼️ If you have any thoughts or comments on the show, we’d love to hear from you! This week on The Midlifers Podcast, Fonz shares a brilliant tip straight from her hairdresser - what to do when you’ve strayed and need to make that awkward return (we’ve all been there). Meanwhile, Mez is feeling the TikTok tut-tuts after last week’s episode on book-to-screen adaptations - the internet had some thoughts! Our first segment is Rant or Rave: Theme Parks 🎢 Are they worth the price? Do you buy the rollercoaster photo? We dive into the chaos, fun, and questionable snacks that come with family theme park trips. Then we take a Deep Dive into the incredible career of Drew Barrymore. From E.T. to her hit talk show, we’ve grown up alongside this flower child - and we unpack how she’s evolved from Hollywood’s wild child to one of the most beloved women in entertainment.Expect midlife laughs, mum-life moments, and plenty of nostalgia as always. Midlife Mums, Moo Moos & 90s Sitcoms

This week on The Midlifers Podcast, we kick things off by chatting about how our style and energy have changed over the years (because midlife ain’t what it used to be). Let’s be real - we’re two middle aged mums who give off a dorky vibe, and people have noticed! Our first segment is a mix of Confessions and Then & Now, where we dive into maternity wear — from the embarrassing truth about still hanging onto old maternity underwear, to how styles have shifted from moomoos to bare-belly confidence.Next up, our Who Did It Better Battle takes us straight back to the 90s, pitting two iconic sitcoms against each other: The Nanny vs Everybody Loves Raymond. Which one wins for mums like us who grew up laughing with Fran Drescher’s voice and Debra Barone’s sass?Expect nostalgia, relatable mum confessions, and plenty of laughs as we share what it’s really like being women in midlife today. So grab a cuppa, settle in, and join us for your weekly dose of fun, friendship, and motherhood humour with The Midlifers.‼️ If you have any thoughts or comments on the show, we’d love to hear from you! From Westco Change Rooms to Bridget Jones

So the big thing around fashion these days is that tight gym wear is out, and floppy jalopy gym clothes are in.  But listen up Gen Z, Mez had been there and done that in the early 00’s and can tell you that lycra might not be cool anymore, but it’s a helluva lot more practical on a treadmill than baggy pants.Fonz has us questioning how much our generation has seen with changes in tech - from the introduction of the internet and mobile phones, to A.I taking over the world.  We’ve seen a lot, and the kids now refer to our childhoods as ‘the olden days’.Our first segment this week is, ‘Don’t be a 🍆 at a Cothing Store’.  What are the things we hate about clothes shopping?  The one at the top of both Fonz’s & Mez’s list?  That awful bloody lighting in the changeroom.  Please, can we not so dramatically highlight our insecurities?!Next is ‘Besties: Best Book to Film Adaptations.’  There are some great ones, like Bridget Jones, that produced movies that translated perfectly.  There were some bad ones too, that we hated watching and were just a big fat disappointment. It’s our usual weekly shenanigans, nostalgia, and silly laughs.  So sit back, have a cuppa, and join The Midlifers 🍵We hope you enjoy the show!‼️ If you have any thoughts or comments on the show, we’d love to hear from you! Remember These 80’s Fashion Trends?

In our chin-hair wag, Fonz tells us about a car she saw that suggested the driver was a cheater.  What was the story? Why were his windows wound down? And why must a situation like this be honked at?Meanwhile Mez’s teen has somehow accumulated hundreds of false eyelashes - where the f did they all come from?  Beauty for teens changed from back in our day when Maybelline Matte Mousse was the go-to.Next we have our first segment, ‘Do You Remember…these 80’s fashion trends’?  When it came to fashion, the 80’s was loud, bold and colourful, and geez we have a lot of fun remembering some iconic fashion choices of the time.  Some of these are making a comeback, and some we really hope stay dead and never return - either way, it’s a great nostalgic look at this wonderful decade. We finish the show with, ‘Food, Glorious Food…Hot Beverages’.  Though technically not food, a hot bevvy can feed the soul just as comfort food does, and there are some good ones here.  From a hot toddy to a hot chocolate, we go through the drinks that we love to help warm the cockles. It’s our usual weekly shenanigans, nostalgia, and a bit of midlife insightfulness as well.  So sit back, have a cuppa, and join The Midlifers 🍵We hope you enjoy the show!‼️ If you have any thoughts or comments on the show, we’d love to hear from you! Midlife Magic & Miss Congeniality vs Legally Blonde

Before we dive into our main segments, Fonz regales us with a recent happening involving a mum and a car park.  Fonz was flustered, and it made us think about what it takes to confront people - whatever it is, Fonz and Mez don’t have it.Mez also came across a TikTok from @upspiral.life which totally changed the narrative about how we look at women going through (peri)menopause.  Hint: we’re not just going batsh!t crazy, our body is rewiring to deal with less b.s.  Yes!Our first segment is a Midlife Moment: what is great about being middle aged? We often talk about the crappy parts about getting older, BUT there are actually so many great things about it, so let’s get into it!  PS thanks for our lovely audience for their calls and messages on this awesome topic 💖‘Who Did it Better Battle’ returns this week, with two great rom-coms from the early 2000’s; Miss Congeniality vs Legally Blonde.  Sandra vs Reece.  The tomboy vs the girly girl.  Great comedies that still make us laugh, but, who did it better? It’s our usual weekly shenanigans, nostalgia, and a bit of midlife insightfulness as well.  So sit back, have a cuppa, and join The Midlifers 🍵We hope you enjoy the show!‼️ If you have any thoughts or comments on the show, we’d love to hear from you!
