Abhijit Sarkar is a senior research associate within the Division of Data and Analytics at the Virginia Tech Transportation Institute (VITI) and affiliate faculty at the Sanghani Center. At present, he leads the Computer Vision and Machine Learning team at VTTI. Robots Among Us: Can Humanoid Tech Be Our Partner in Progress?DANIELE PUCCI Is the Head of Artificial and Mechanical Intelligence at the Istituto Italiano di Tecnologia (IIT) Daniele received the bachelor and master degrees in Control Engineering with highest honors from ”Sapienza”, University of Rome. In 2013, he earned the PhD title with a thesis prepared at INRIA Sophia Antipolis, France.he has been a postdoc at the Istituto Italiano di Tecnologia (IIT) working within the EU project CoDyCo focusing on the balancing problem of the iCub Humanoid robot.he has been the head of the Dynamic Interaction Control lab, a group of about 20 members focusing on the iCub locomotion walking problem. In this period, Daniele also laid the basis for the "Aerial Humanoid Robotics", a new branch of Robotics whose main aim is to achieve flying humanoid robots. Daniele has also been the scientific PI of the H2020 European Project AnDy, and now is: task leader of the H2020 European Project SoftManBot, coordinator of the joint laboratory between IIT and Honda JP, principal investigator (PI) in the Camozzi-IIT and Danieli Automation-IIT joint labs. Lastly, Daniele is the coordinator of the ergoCub project, a 5 million, three year joint project between INAIL and IIT. Since September 2021, Daniele is the PI leading the Artificial and Mechanical Intelligence research line at IIT, a team composed of about forty members that combines AI and Mechanics to devise the next generation of the iCub humanoid robot. Concerning awards and recognitions, in 2009 Daniele received the ”Excellence Path Award” from Sapienza for his master studies. In 2019, he was awarded as Innovator of the year Under 35 Europe from the MIT Technology Review magazine for conceiving the iRonCub, the first jet-powered flying humanoid robot. Since 2020, Daniele is a visiting lecturer at University of Manchester. In July 2020, Daniele was selected to represent Italy at the Global Partnership on Artificial Intelligence (GPAI, conceived by Canada and France during their G7 presidencies) for the working group on COVID-19 response. In 2022, Daniele was selected as reviewer of EU projects. Also, in 2022, Daniele was the leader of the iCub team during the ANA Avatar XPRIZE, a four-year 10M$ international competition for making robotic avatars. Darius Widera is a Professor of Stem Cell Biology and Regenerative Medicine and Research Division Lead at the University of Reading. His lab is mainly interested in adult stem cells and their secretome, inflammatory signalling cascades in health and disease, and novel methods for clinical-grade 3D cultivation of human stem cells. His research is focused on the regenerative potential of mesenchymal stromal cells, neural crest-derived stem cells, and pluripotent stem cells in different disorders and conditions, his research aims to tackle disorders and conditions with an inflammatory component, such as osteoporosis, lung, brain, and breast cancer.He graduated in Biochemistry and received his PhD in Neurobiochemistry from Witten/Herdecke University, Germany, in 2007. From 2013 to 2015, he served as an Adjunct Professor at the Department of Cell Biology, University of Bielefeld . In February 2015, he was appointed as a Lecturer in Stem Cell Biology and Regenerative Medicine at the University of Reading, promoted to Associate Professor in 2019, and to full Professor in 2023. Petr Šulc’s research focuses on application of computational modeling and statistical physics approaches to complex systems. In particular, his group uses computational models to study problems in biology, and bio-inspired nanotechnology systems. He is mainly interested in nucleic acids modeling (DNA and RNA) using coarse-grained models, which allow for simulations of longer time-scales and larger systems than if fully-atomistic representation is used. Such an approach is allows for efficient studies of nanotechnology system, as well as biologically relevant interactions between nucleic acids.His research group is furthermore interested in applying computer simulations and statistical physics analysis to study properties of RNA molecules in vivo, in relation to RNAs expressed in tumor cells and viral genomes. The research is done in active collaboration with experimental groups.He is an assistant professor at ASU. Prior to ASU, he was a fellow in physics and biology with The Rockefeller University (2014-2017) and served as a graduate research assistant with the Center for Nonlinear Studies at the Los Alamos National Laboratory, New Mexico (2009-2010). Sergei V. Kalinin is a corporate fellow at the Center for Nanophase Materials Sciences (CNMS) at Oak Ridge National Laboratory. His research interests include atom by atom fabrication, application of machine learning and artificial intelligence in atomically resolved and mesoscopic imaging to guide the development of advanced materials for energy and information technologies, as well as coupling between electromechanical, electrical, and transport phenomena on the nanoscale. In 2002 he founded and headed the Yuval Ne’eman Workshop for Science, Technology and Security. He was a member of the Board of Trustees of Ariel University Centre (2009-2011), and a member of the advisory council of Neaman Institute for Advanced Studies in Science and Technology at the Technion (2000-2010). Professor Ben-Israel was a member of the 17th Knesset (Israeli Parliament) between June 2007 and February 2009. During this period he was a member of the Security and Foreign Affairs Committee, the Finance Committee, the Science & Technology committee, the Chairman of the Homeland Security Sub Committee and the Chairman of the Israeli–Indian Parliamentary Friendship Association. In 2011 he was appointed by the Prime Minister to lead a task force that formulated Israel national Cyber policy. Following that he founded the National Cyber Headquarters in the PM Office. In 2014 he was appointed again by the PM to lead another task force which resulted in a government decision (February 2015) to set up a new National Cyber Authority. Dr. Millett is a certified biorisk management professional, with a specialization in biosecurity. Dr. Millett was Deputy Head of the Implementation Support Unit for the Biological Weapons Convention (BWC), a treaty for which he worked for over a decade. He has consulted for the World Health Organization, supporting its integration of research and development into responses to public health emergencies and considering the health implications of advances in technology. As Vice President for Responsibility for iGEM Foundation (International Genetically Engineered Machines Competition), Dr. Millett established and ran a program strengthening the culture of responsibility and risk management with more than 350 projects each year, involving more than 6,000 young scientists and engineers from 45 countries across every inhabited continent. Trained originally as a microbiologist, Dr. Millett has worked closely with the citizen science movement, synthetic biologists, the biotechnology industry as well as national and international policymakers and decision-makers. Dr. Montague is a Senior Scholar at the Johns Hopkins Center for Health Security and an Assistant Scientist in the Department of Environmental Health and Engineering at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health.
