Kindness Is the Legacy You Leave Behind

Send a textIn a world that often feels loud, rushed, and heavy, kindness can start to feel like a burden — something that asks more of us when we already feel stretched thin. It can feel impractical, even naïve. But what if kindness isn’t weakness at all? What if it’s a strategy for surviving, staying human, and playing the long game of life well? In this episode of The Ouch Couch, we explore kindness through a deeper lens: not as politeness or toxic positivity, but as presence, agency, and legacy. Drawing on the idea of life as an “infinite game,” we unpack how what we focus on shapes who we become, why choosing kindness without expectation can be a saving grace in a world we can’t control, and how the feeling we leave behind may be the most powerful legacy any of us will ever create. Follow us on Instagram at TheOuchCouchPodcast

    Jackhammers and Survival Mode

Send a textFor almost three years, I’ve lived with the constant hum of construction — jackhammering, back-up beeping, industrial elevators, parking garage renovations, random apartment renovations, even the occasional night shift of drills that start just hours after the daytime ones stopped. It’s left my body in a state of survival mode, and honestly? I haven’t figured out how to fix it. Maybe sometimes you can’t. Maybe there isn’t an easy answer. That’s why this episode of The Ouch Couch isn’t about quick solutions — it’s about naming the toll, sitting with the reality, and building community with others who get it. Because sometimes the most healing thing isn’t advice — it’s knowing you’re not alone in the noise.Follow us on Instagram at TheOuchCouchPodcast

Motherless Daughters with Guest Heather McDanel

Send a textIn this episode we mention a book by Hope Edelman, called "Motherless Daughters." One of the quotes that struck me the most was as follows: "Someone did us all a grave injustice by implying that mourning has a distinct beginning, middle and end...I see the enormous value of a mother's presence because I live everyday with its absence." My mother’s passing was a definitive mark in time of a “before” and “after.” It is through this episode that I wish to honor her memory and her role, and if you have experienced a similar loss, may this episode serve as a reminder that while we certainly may have had connections with those we have lost, my wish for you is that the connections you choose to make, your chosen family and angels you meet along the way, continue to shape your lives and continue to inspire you every day. Heather is a gem and shared her journey of losing her mother when she was 20, and the self awareness of her role now knowing the impact of living without a mother for so long was heartfelt.Follow us on Instagram at TheOuchCouchPodcast

Adapting to Move Forward with Guest Eric Herdman

Send a textOur guest, Eric Herdman, has been in front of well over 20,000 people throughout his career and counting. He has delivered over 1,000 virtual sessions to audiences around the world in just the last 5 years. He has also facilitated countless in-person workshops as an organizational development expert spanning the last 3 decades.  In this episode, Eric shares a couple of milestone moments from his professional triathlon years. There are times where we will crash (metaphorically), and it’s our job to reassess, repair and reinvent ourselves sometimes in the adaptations we make to move forward. You could be training or working towards a big accomplishment, and as we know, things don’t always go as planned. However, adversity is how we are built to learn and evolve. In addition, remember what you think comes naturally to someone may not be the case. Success is not a linear path from point A to point B. What gets missed are the years and struggles of something not feeling great; but it doesn’t mean you stop. There are no shortcuts to circumvent the hardships, or twists and turns to get to success.  We each have our own unique path forward in how we achieve certain things, and it may feel repetitive at times. What works for you, may not work for someone else, which is the basis of N = 1 (the study of one). Enjoy the episode!Follow us on Instagram at TheOuchCouchPodcast

Do What is Right, Not What is Easy- Guest Judge Maria McLaughlin

Send a textPennsylvania Superior Court Judge Maria McLaughlin grew up with the beliefs to give back, spread hope, and work hard. Why? These are the fundamentals of our shared commonalities. The depth and breadth of what we have in common with one another overlaps the divide of any differences a million times over. Maria grew up from humble beginnings and has never forgotten that lesson from her parents. She was provided the opportunity to attend college which gave her faith of the endless possibilities and to believe in herself and her career trajectory which was at a time when women had limited opportunities and the openings that did exist were competitive and far and few between. Maria has lived a life of service first starting out as a district attorney, then Judge, and role model raising two sons as a single parent. Years later, Maria is happily remarried in a new blended family with 6 children and 4 grandchildren and will always remember the love, guidance and sacrifices made by her parents, Williams and Charlotte. Energy Management with Dr. Arin Reeves

Send a textIn this episode we are joined by Dr. Arin Reeves, the founder and Managing Director of the research and advisory firm, Nextions.  She is also the author of 4 incredible books, with the latest one called "In Charge-The Energy Management Guide for Badass Women Who are Tired of Being Tired."  How we receive, digest, translate and associate experiences, people and places in our lives can be positive, negative or some combination of both. Learning the code to decipher what depletes you, and what energizes you, will help to begin to dabble in freedom. We have developed preconceived notions over the years of what we "should" do and what productivity "should" look like, especially as women.   I expect that this episode will be relatable and resonate on many levels. This conversation with Arin was empowering and validating because it reinforced that we need to be our own advocate for our joy and what fills us - we are our own problem solvers and so are the people that travel with us in our chosen circles. Our community of people we surround ourselves with is what makes us rich.Follow us on Instagram at TheOuchCouchPodcast
