Saturday Story Time – Summer Edition | OS 1437

Seems like the best stories happen in the summer, and this episode was all about the stories – from tarpon fishing to wrestling hungry gators and everything in between! Well, Sometimes It Just Depends…

For the past several weeks, Capt. Kevin and the Unusual Suspects have been pretty unanimous in their praise for the weather and the fishing conditions here on the First Coast. But just like everything else, things change – or do they? Well, sometimes it just depends. On the day. On the time of that particular day. On your location at that particular time of that particular day. Which way you’re coming and going as it relates to that particular location on that particular time on that particular day.  You get the idea. Stay tuned to find out what the forecast is doing, so you can prepare yourself to answer the “how was the fishing?” question every way you need to. Facebook

LIVE from Arlington Bait & Tackle! | OS 1436

The boys packed up the trucks and headed out on the road for this episode. Their destination: Arlington Bait & Tackle! Lots going on, and lots of people were there – including Capt. Chip Wingo and Domenic Paniccia. The weather was a major topic of conversation, of course, and the big concern was the wind, and how it was going to affect everything on the water. When you’re at Arlington Bait & Tackle, it only makes sense to talk about, well, bait and tackle. If you’re looking for some insight into either (or both), you don’t want to miss this episode. Here’s your L.V. Hiers Inc gear tip of the week: This is from Captain Rob Robbins who basically fishes the St. Johns. We asked him how he keeps his shrimp alive in this heat. His response? Frozen water bottles! Here’s your Ring Power Cat tip of the week: Join us at our LIVE remote this morning at arlingtonbaitandtackle and get in the raffles! Happy 250th Birthday, America! | OS 1434

Here’s something you can take to the bank: if somebody loves hunting and fishing and being in the outdoors as much as the guys, you can 100% bet they love the United States of America like crazy. They were THRILLED to have the opportunity to do a show on the 250th birthday of our great nation, and thrilled to have you be a part of it. This episode was filled with all the things that make our country great (including talk about all the great fishing that’s happening here on the First Coast), and it’s worth enjoying every minute. You’ll laugh, you’ll salute and you may even catch yourself tearing up once or twice. May God continue to bless America, the greatest country in the history of the world, for another 250 and beyond. Happy Birthday, Lady Liberty. May freedom always ring. Facebook

    It’s A Wonderful Life | Fishing Forecast 7-2-26

The calendar may tell you it’s July, but if you ask Capt. Kevin and the Unusual Suspects, it’s pretty much Christmas in First Coast waters right now. The fishing is simply spectacular. Great Fishing, Tick Hate and The Great Debate | OS 1433

Jeff continued his 2026 Off-Season OSR Tour this week, but he checked in through the wonders of modern technology. Capt. Kevin and Capt. Kirk held down the fort in the studio – with BIG smiles on their faces. Why?  Because the fishing has been EPIC! OTHERWORLDLY! STUPENDOUS! TREMENDOUS! Yeah, it’s been pretty darn good. The guys – along with lots of callers – dropped all kinds of details, stories, tips and tricks. The show also meandered into tick territory. Find out everything you need – and don’t want – to know about Satan’s favorite bug. And we wouldn’t be doing our job if we didn’t mention a conversation that rolled all show long. It’s one of the most important debates of our time: Ginger or Mary Ann? Here’s your L.V. Hiers Inc gear tip of the week from Captain Chip Wingo: Tarpon fishing has been red hot this week, and Captain Chip relies on the Eagle Claw Tro-Kar 8/0 hooks. They’re $13-$14 a pack, Capt. Chip says they’re worth it…he won’t tarpon fish without them! Here’s your Ring Power Cat tip of the week: Always pick up trash you see floating on the water, but make sure you check it before you do! You never know what might be under there…this week Capt. Leon found a triple tail under a floating chip bag! Here’s your KirbyCo Builders’ Cooking Tip of the Week: Tera’s Sourdough Discard Pancakes. When The Water’s On FIRE! | Fishing Forecast 6-25-26

Capt. Kevin smelled like smoke in the studio – not because the place burned down, and not because he recently acquired a taste for Cuban cigars – but because the the fishing is cooking. SPOILER ALERT: when you hear him mention the phrase “world class” within the first five minutes, you’d better be listening to the whole show! The boys chimed in with their own tales of angling victory and the amazing things they’re seeing.  And as for the forecast, you’ll be – well, listen in and find out… Facebook

Takin’ It OLD SCHOOL! | OS 1431

It’s Old School Kingfish Shootout Saturday! Capt. Kirk was doing OSR with his son, and Capt. Kevin was busy vying for the big money, so Jeff brought in Tru Luvin’ Fishing’s Domenic Paniccia and Rick Hall to fill the chairs and have some fun. Coverage began with the one and only Paul Dozier, who gave everyone the complete rundown on the tournament, and continued throughout the morning with calls from a bunch of Old School anglers – Harley Bryan from CSS, Dave Edwards, Capt. Chris Stevens, “Mullethead” Paul, and more. Here’s the bonus: not only will you hear reports about how they’re doing, but you’ll be able to pick up a lot of tips – you might need to listen to this one with a notepad. The Old School was the headline for this episode, as expected, but when you have Rick Hall in the house, you gotta talk hunting, too. So if you need a little hunting fix, you have that in this one as well. Here’s your L.V. Hiers Inc gear tip of the week: Don’t get caught without gas! Bring a 5 gallon gas can just in case! In fact, get yourself a few of these Flo-Fast gas cans…and according to Jeff, you have to get the pump, too! Here’s your Ring Power Cat tip of the week! Kingfish season means trolling. The Dave Workman Jr. Pro Series Duster rigs are really helpful at times to engage in a reactionary strike! LIVE from Consignment Boat Sales | OS 1425

With Capt. Kevin continuing his Kentuckiana OSR Adventure, Capt. Kirk and Jeff took the show on the road to Consignment Boat Sales! They brought Tru Luvin’ Fishing’s Domenic Paniccia with them to talk fishing, boats, and all things outdoors. The weather continued to be a big story, of course, but the GREAT news is that the rain has arrived (for one day, at least)! It’s such a huge relief for those bravely fighting the fires across the region. There was a lot to talk about, and they welcomed in Guy from Consignment Boat Sales to talk about boats (duh), but to have some fun sharing boat ramp stories. Since he’s been there 25 years, he had A LOT of ’em! NOTE: Guy shared his favorite story, and it is one YOU CANNOT AFFORD TO MISS! Here’s a guarantee – you will NOT believe it. Here’s your L.V. Listen While You’re Fishin’! | OS 1424

The First Coast is kinda funny when it comes to fishing – you could be coming up pretty much empty around Jacksonville, but it could be 100% GAME ON in St. Aug! It was a mixed bag this week, but with water temps going up, business is definitely picking up in the water…and the guys talked about it at length. The wildfires burning all over the region were also a big topic of conversation. Please keep everyone in your thoughts and prayers as the fires continue to ravage the Georgia and Florida landscape. Lots of great information and fun on this episode – 100% worth a listen, whether you’re fishing or not! Here’s your L.V. LIVE from Standard Feed & Seed! | OS 1423

Standard Feed & Seed has turned 80, and they invited the guys – and the entire OS Family – out to celebrate their birthday with them!  Nothing like doing the show outside in the midst of a gorgeous morning, talking about some great fishing, turkey hunting and more. But sometimes the fishing stories aren’t so great…Capt. Kevin shared a story about his encounter with a nasty little bugger that could have landed him in the hospital. Listen in, check out the Facebook post, and take the story as a cautionary tale. This birthday celebration wouldn’t have been complete without the great guests.  You know Frank, SF&S owner, would sit in for a while to have some fun and talk about all the great things happening at the store.  But the guys also welcomed in Ms. Kay Ehas, CEO of Groundwork Jacksonville – a nonprofit organization that does a lot to promote environmental stewardship of our area. She talked about what’s happening with the Emerald Trail and how you can get involved. Here’s your L.V. Hiers Inc gear tip of the week: Remember to carry a few medium heavy spinning rods in the boat for pitching pogies to cobia, jacks and tarpon!  Facebook

My, How The Tables Have Turned! | Fishing Forecast 4-16-26

They say that if you don’t like the weather in Florida, just wait five minutes.  Well, it took a little longer than that, but WOW! The change in the weather was outstanding, and things felt perfect for Capt. Kevin and the Unusual Suspects. But did the change in the weather result into some great catches?  You’ll have to listen in to find out…and make sure you listen for the latest weather forecast as well. Facebook

Battle of the OS Hosts | OS 1422

The guys were still reeling from the CRAZY weather we all experienced over the past week, and of course it was one of the main topics of conversation. However, no matter what Mother Nature throws at us, we can all still find some outdoors stuff to do. Jeff shared a great turkey hunt story about a turkey that was DETERMINED to get himself put down. After that, it was Kevin’s turn with a bird story of his own…that wound up being about a completely different animal – you’ll have to listen in to find out what it was. But the golden thread running through the entire show was the Battle of the Outdoor Show Hosts – they couldn’t agree on much of anything!  The back and forth made for a whole lot of fun and a must-listen episode. Here’s your L.V. Hiers Inc gear tip of the week: The BEST turkey calls…David Halloran Turkey Calls. PERIOD. Visit the website and get yours now. Here’s your Ring Power CAT tip of the week: Come see us LIVE this morning at Standard Feed and Seed. They are celebrating 80 years in business! Lots of great pricing and chicken poop bingo! To fish or to hunt? THAT is the question, and your answer’s going to switch, depending on which day you wanna get outdoors. The guys went off on this next round of CRAZY weather before settling down and talking about what’s been going on in the woods and water. In other news, Ed Malin, long-time part of the OS Family, was celebrating a birthday today, so the guys told some Malin Tales and had a lot of fun at his expense. NOTE: Producer Chris is representing the Outdoors Show today (April 4) as the emcee for the Clay County Fair’s Donut Eating Contest. If you’re there, be sure to say hi! Here’s your L.V. Yep, the First Coast Winter Bluster-palooza continued this week, but for those brave enough to get out there, the fishing wasn’t bad at all! Capt. Kevin talked about it with the Unusual Suspects, and introduced the newest member of the crew, Capt. Rob Robbins! He’s THE pro between the Buckman and Green Cove Springs, so get ready for great insight into part of the best fishery on the East Coast! Facebook

    OS 1412: Too Cold To…Talk?

The guys were back in studio (and they brought Capt. Leon Dana along, too), and the top thing on their mind was the bottom number on that temp chart – YIKES! They took a break from the chilly chatter to listen to Capt. Kirk’s fantastic deer hunting story…you don’t want to miss the interesting turn it took. In fact, the show was LOADED with all kinds of great stories – perfect when you’re curled up to keep warm on during a winter cold snap. A question came up, and lots of folks talked about it: do you crank the music while you’re on your boat, or do you keep it quiet to listen to what’s going on around you? LOTS of interesting answers…and lots of favorite songs thrown out there by the music lovers. And finally, have you ever heard of “nosnolgia”? Well, you will when you listen to this episode. Here’s your L.V. Hiers Inc gear tip of the week from Captain Kevin: Carrie found a great car phone charger with a retractable cord from Prakie. The verdict: MONEY! Click HERE for the Amazon link. Here’s your Ring Power CAT tip of the week: These Anboson 10mil gloves are great for using during cold weather fishing to help keep your hands warm and dry! They are durable and don’t rip easily. Captain Kirk gets them on Amazon! Here’s your KirbyCo Builders’ Cooking Tip of the Week: it’s a great Baked Brie appetizer recipe – click HERE to check out the Facebook post. Facebook

Lots of great boats to talk about, of course, along with all kinds of great talk about fishing, hunting, music, food – you name it, they talked about it! Here’s your L.V. OS 1410: Around The World…In One Show!

One of the best things about the Outdoors Show is this: you can’t afford to miss a single episode, because you never know where the conversation’s going to go.  Sure, the guys talk hunting and fishing, weather and outdoors gear…and food (always food!), but the chatter went ALL over the place, and it was a whole lot of fun! Capt. Kevin revisited something he first brought up during the last episode of the Fishing Forecast: the one that got away.  Crazy stories about the ones that didn’t quite make it to the boat…and a couple that actually did – and STILL got away! Here’s your L.V. Hiers Inc gear tip of the week from Harley at CSS Fireplaces and Outdoor Living: If you have a boat with a live well, eventually you will have to change the pump. Instead of having to rewire everything switch out to JRready wire connectors. Makes it way easier to change out! Get them on Amazon for under $20. Here’s your Ring Power CAT tip of the week: Mark it in your calendar! The Jacksonville Boat Show is next weekend, January 23-25. The Nimnicht Outdoors Show will be there live on Saturday morning. Fishing Forecast: New Year, New Low…

OS 1409: Rock’n’Troll All Nite (And Party Every Day)

Jeff was out on OSR this week, so Capt. Kevin and Capt. Kirk got things going themselves this episode.  But they didn’t end it that way – Capt. Paul Dozier joined them to talk a whole lot of fishing, including kingfishing (what else would the mastermind of the Old School talk about?) and naturally progressing into some really cool trolling talk. They were talking offshore, and of course, when anybody talks about going offshore, the conversation shifts to sharks. Quite the interesting discussion ensued about how many are out there…and how much protection they really need. Talked a little hunting, too…spawned by a very “interesting” story from a caller who caught a look at an intimate moment. Here’s your L.V. Hiers gear tip of the week: Capt. Cory Sparks hooked up Capt. Kevin for Christmas with the Black Sierra 7″ Outdoor firepit. He’s been using it and burning all the pine cones. Perfect for doing s’mores, too! Get yours for under $30 on Amazon. Here’s your Ring Power CAT tip of the week: Mark it in your calendar – The Jacksonville Boat Show is January 23 – 25. The Nimnicht Outdoors Show will be there live on Saturday morning. Come join us! OS 1408: Happy New…Gear?!?!?

Capt. Kevin was off on some New Year’s OSR, but he checked in via the wonders of modern technology…to find Tru Luvin Fishing’s Domenic Paniccia sitting in his chair at the studio!  As you can imagine, lots of fun and fishing talk ensued. Capt. Kirk shared the audio of a pack of yotes going BONKERS on his property…and why? Because something was in there with them, and one of those seems to have met an untimely end thanks to the beast that growls at the end of the clip. What was it – a bear? panther? BIGFOOT?!?!?!? Not sure what brought it up (maybe the New Year’s fireworks?), but the guys got to talking about flashlights and kicked around all kinds of recommendations. That led to this episode going really gear-heavy. Flashlights, artificial lures, knives…and more. Here’s your L.V. Hiers gear tip of the week: Chris got the Handy Heater for Christmas this year. He was skeptical, but it really works! Cranks out the heat in a hurry, variable temp setting, auto shut-off, and a timer, too! Facebook

OS 1407: Between Christmas and New Years

The boys were back after some yuletide cheer to talk about the fun of the holidays and what was next up on the outdoors agenda. They got Capt. Kirk to talk about the INSANE haul he brought in the day before – lots of sheepshead and some of the biggest trout any of them had ever seen! The guys talked about a lot of things, including more absurd fishing regulation talk, all kinds of stuff happening in the woods (bears, big cats and more), as well as potential names for Capt. Kevin’s new puppy, and all kinds of holiday food and fun talk. Here’s your L.V. Hiers gear tip of the week: Mema’s No Bite Bug Spray works on those pesky gnats that have been awful with this warmer weather! It’s Available at ALL Hagan Ace Hardware locations. It’s safe for people AND animals and what’s better than SUPPORTING LOCAL? The owner, Pam, is from our area! It works for mosquitoes, gnats, flies and even no-see-ums! Here’s your Ring Power CAT tip of the week: Captain Kirk Got the Mustang Survival Throw Bag with a 75′ survival rope. Great addition to safety gear you should carry! Here’s your KirbyCo Builders’ Cooking Tip of the Week: Merry Brisket-mas! Check out Jeff’s explanation of ALL the steps he used to make this THE BEST brisket ever! Facebook

    OS 1406: Have a Holly, Jolly…Fishing Trip!

The guys were back in studio, and they were a bit conflicted. Of course, everyone is all about all things Christmas this time of year, but with the weather as good as it is – and the fishing as good as it is – how could you not talk about it? The conversation bounced around all over the place between fishing, hunting, sting ray barbs, Christmas gift ideas, Christmas movies and TV specials, lines from Star Wars (?!?)…no joke – this episode BOUNCED. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year! OS 1405: LIVE at the SF&S HO-HO-HOEDOWN!

The boys were broadcasting live from Standard Feed & Seed for the Holiday Ho-Ho-Hoedown to spread some Christmas cheer, collect toys for Operation Santa’s Heroes, and take part in all the festivities. The talk went all kinds of sideways pretty much from the start, as is the case anytime the boys are on location. Lots of great stories and fun stuff…100% must-listen!! Here’s your L.V. Hiers gear tip of the week from Captain Kirk: Here is a unique first aid tip – Capt. Kirk carries pickle juice in his backpack when he goes to the woods and on his boat. Whenever you get a muscle cramp, that juice knocks it out QUICK.
