The Life & Death Episode: World Cup, Wakes & Catholic Funerals w/ Fr. Hurley & Tom Curley | Ep. 42
A priest and a mortician walk into a podcast. Amen, and subscribe.First up on the pitch, Marcelo Balboa. former U.S. Men's National Team defender and World Cup alum (1990, 1994, 1998), stops by at the top to break down the World Cup — including dark horse teams, hacky sack's unlikely comeback, and why the US needs to get to the quarterfinal, minimum. Then, Father Tom Hurley and funeral director Tom Curley join Pat and Dwayne Kennedy to cover the full Catholic life cycle: from baptism to burial, with a detour through hide-and-go-seek in a funeral home at age seven. Also: what does a dead body actually sound like? Can Catholics be buried naked? (Asking for a nudist.) And is “Here I Am Lord” the ultimate Catholic banger? 🎧 New episodes every Thursday — filmed at Tiege Hanley Studios in Chicago. 🔗 Follow The Pat McGann Show:Instagram: @thepatmcgannshowTikTok: @thepatmcgannshowApple Podcasts & Spotify: The Pat McGann Show🎤 Co-Host: Dwayne KennedyInstagram: @dwaynetkennedy🎤 Guest: Tom Curley🎤 Guest: Father Tom Hurley Instagram: @thomasjhurley💚 Sponsored by Tiege Hanley — Get 40% off your first box + free gift → tiege.com/patInterested in sponsoring The Pat McGann Show? Operation Schvitz: Mitch Rosen on Running Chicago Sports Radio | The Pat McGann Show Ep. 41
Taking a page out of Mitch Rosen’s book, this episode was posted at 3am. (But don’t worry, we scheduled it for 9:03am). The VP of Odyssey Sports and architect of 670 The Score joins Pat and Dwayne to talk about building one of the most iconic sports radio brands in the country. The origin story alone is worth it, a 12-year-old from Skokie writes a fan letter to an overnight DJ and ends up producing his show at WGN for $13,000 a year. From there, Mitch traces the unlikely chain of events that put the Cubs on The Score the same season they finally ended a 108-year drought, the hardest phone call he's ever made, and what "taking over Bulls broadcast rights mid-season" actually looks like in practice. The episode closes, naturally, at the Division Street Bathhouse: 200 degrees, communal, beloved by Chelios, Belushi, and old Russian men alike. Pat and Dwayne? TBD… 🎧 New episodes every Thursday — filmed at Tiege Hanley Studios in Chicago. 🔗 Follow The Pat McGann Show:Instagram: @thepatmcgannshowTikTok: @thepatmcgannshowApple Podcasts & Spotify: The Pat McGann Show🎤 Co-Host: Dwayne KennedyInstagram: @dwaynetkennedy🎤 Guest: Mitch RosenInstagram: @mitchrosen670_💚 Sponsored by Tiege Hanley — Get 40% off your first box + free gift → tiege.com/patInterested in sponsoring The Pat McGann Show? Bringing Back the Factoids with Ryan Chiaverini | The Pat McGann Show Ep. 38
We're celebrating Pat's 50th with three Chicago guys and one matching outfit. This week, ABC7 Chicago's lead sports anchor and Windy City Live co-host Ryan Chiaverini joins Pat and Dwayne for a long-overdue conversation.Ryan shares what it was actually like to replace Oprah Winfrey on live television the day after she retired — including the Yahoo comment section, which was not kind. Also: Mike Tyson's tigers (he had a whole house for them), the celebrity who broke Ryan's heart the most, and John Travolta calling a piece of family history "the coolest factoid anyone's ever told me."That factoid? Ryan's dad had a song in Pulp Fiction — and the royalty check situation is exactly what you'd expect. Along the way: Route 66 road trips, the economics of lounge singing, and why Dwayne's show may leave you in tears.🎧 New episodes every Thursday — filmed at Tiege Hanley Studios in Chicago.🔗 Follow The Pat McGann Show:Instagram: @thepatmcgannshowTikTok: @thepatmcgannshowApple Podcasts & Spotify: The Pat McGann Show🎤 Co-Host: Dwayne KennedyInstagram: @dwaynetkennedy🎤 Guest: Ryan ChiaveriniInstagram: @ryanchiaverini💚 Sponsored by Tiege Hanley — Get 40% off your first box + free gift → tiege.com/patInterested in sponsoring The Pat McGann Show? Matteo Lane: From Chicago Open Mics to Sold-Out Theaters in Italy | The Pat McGann Show Ep. 37
Today we are taking a trip down Matteo Lane, but first, taking a right down memory Dwayne. Before his sold-out show at the Chicago Theater, Dwayne Kennedy and Pat McGann chat with the Chicago-raised, New York-based comedian. They discuss his journey from performing a three-minute open mic at Old Town Pub to sold-out theaters in Italy, Spain, and Australia. Along the way: why Grease makes absolutely no sense, Dionne Warwick's inexplicable omnipresence in Matteo's life, and the one phone call in 2021 that changed everything. Also, talk of Dress to Impress, not to be confused with hit reality TV show RuPaul’s Drag Race. 🎧 New episodes every Thursday — filmed at Tiege Hanley Studios in Chicago.🔗 Follow The Pat McGann Show:Instagram: @thepatmcgannshowTikTok: @thepatmcgannshowApple Podcasts & Spotify: The Pat McGann Show🎤 Guest: Matteo LaneInstagram: @matteolane🎤 Co-Host: Dwayne KennedyInstagram: @dwaynetkennedy💚 Sponsored by Tiege Hanley — Get 40% off your first box + free gift → tiege.com/patInterested in sponsoring The Pat McGann Show? Dwayne Kennedy & Maggie Hughes DePalo: Reality Show Nightmares & UFO Scientists | TPMS Ep. 36
Get ready—this might be the best 39 minutes and 92 seconds you’ve ever experienced. A vintage Chicago episode with old friends and all-timers of The Pat McGann Show. This week, Dwyane Kennedy and Maggie Hughes DePalo join Pat to defend Chicago comedy, revisit reality show disasters, and break down the White House Correspondents’ Dinner. Why were people still eating? Did Oz see it coming? And where exactly was RFK during all of it?Along the way: Kevin Hart’s Chicago Funny AF auditions, the economics (and mild humiliation) of selling merch, a ref who wants to settle things with a boxing match, and the government casually confirming UFOs.Rate it. Review it. Tell your local ref we’re ready for three rounds. 🎧 New episodes every Thursday — filmed at Tiege Hanley Studios in Chicago.🔗 Follow The Pat McGann Show:Instagram: @thepatmcgannshowTikTok: @thepatmcgannshowApple Podcasts & Spotify: The Pat McGann Show🎤 Guest: Maggie Hughes DePaloInstagram: @maggiehughesdepalo🎤 Guest: Dwayne KennedyInstagram: @dwaynetkennedy💚 Sponsored by Tiege Hanley — Get 40% off your first box + free gift → tiege.com/patInterested in sponsoring The Pat McGann Show?
