Rachel Richeson has set a PB every year she's thrown the hammer, but 2025 represented a huge leap forward. She claimed the U.S. indoor title in the weight throw in February before opening with a mammoth hammer mark in April. 78.80m moved her to fifth in world history (currently sixth) and proclaimed her as a contender on the global stage.She was met with inconsistencies in the summer, fouling out of some meets while putting together impressive performances in others. At USAs, she managed to put it all together to qualify for her first World Championship. Alex Rose made his first global championship in 2013. Alex Rose made his first global final in 2022. Alex Rose won his first global medal in 2025. In those 12 years, there were times he was close to retirement, especially when he picked up a full-time job in 2018 and couldn't see a way to balance his two careers. But he stayed the course, getting closer and closer to this ultimate goal in 2022, 2023 and 2024. Coming back from a knee surgery last fall, this season wasn't supposed to be anything special. And then he got the World standard in July. And then he had one of the best training blocks of his life leading into the World Championships. And then he threw 65 meters in qualifying. And then, in a rainy, dangerous, random World final, he threw 66.96 meters in Round 5. The summer throwing season is officially in full swing!The Diamond League circuit continued last week in Doha, where Julian Weber and Neeraj Chopra broke into the history books with the first 90m throws of their careers. Matty Denny continued his DL discus domination with a comfortable win at 68.97m. One-meets across Europe are gaining more and more steam each day, as the throws content and results are seemingly endless now. The second outing of Ryan Crouser's World Shot Put Series did not disappoint. Hosted at Sorinex Summer Strength in South Carolina, defending WSPS Champ Roger Steen was pushed to his limits by Olympic finalist Payton Otterdahl. On June 29th, Joe Brown punched his ticket to Paris with a sixth-round effort of 65.79m to finish third in the men’s discus at the U.S. Olympic Trials. In doing so, Brown secured a spot on his first major championship team, and the moment served as the culmination of Brown’s professional journey since graduating from D2 Texas A&M-Commerce in 2019. University of Oregon senior Jaida Ross has had a season that can only be described as historic. After a runner-up finish by just six centimeters at NCAA Indoors, Ross has torn the outdoor record books apart. She broke the collegiate record in her opener, throwing 19.71m, equalled that mark three weeks later, then became the first woman in collegiate history to break the 20 meter barrier at NCAA West Regionals last Thursday with a mark of 20.01m.I got the chance to catch up with Ross just before she reaches the most critical part of her season, with NCAA Outdoor Championships coming up next week and Olympic Trials on the horizon.
