The Phillies continue to rack up wins at home as they look to sweep Miami and get ready for their first look at the NL East rival New York Mets
The Phillies struggled for wins at home early in the season, but are now 21-17 at Citizens Bank Park after starting off their latest homestand with a pair of wins against the Miami Marlins. The Phils scored 15 runs in those two games. Brandon Marsh and Alec Bohm have continued to swing hot bats and Kyle Schwarber's home run total is up to 25. Of course, the Phillies remain a team that is built on their starting pitching, and Zack Wheeler and Jesus Luzardo delivered strong outings to start off the Marlins series, which concludes Wednesday with Andrew Painter on the mound. In this episode, the boys discuss it all. They also hit on reliever Brad Keller's injury, Trea Turner's struggles, and what the team's biggest trade deadline need might be. Finally, a quick look at the New York Mets, who come to town on Thursday to start a three-game series. Miz-ery: Don Mattingly said he'll think about sitting Trea Turner
The Phillies lost two of three this weekend against the Brewers. Now, no team would have beaten Jacob Misiorowski on Friday night. He was unhittable and unbeatable. But the Phillies are 3-9 against NL division leaders: 1-5 vs. Atlanta, 1-2 vs. Milwaukee and 1-2 vs. Los Angeles. What does it say about this team? Also, is it finally time to sit Trea Turner? And should the Phillies elevate Orion Kerkering’s role in the bullpen? It’s “Best Week” by Manco & Manco Pizza! A Phillies trade, and a few thoughts on Andrew Painter
Adolis García is banged up, so the Phillies made a trade on Thursday for White Sox outfielder Derek Hill. But the Phillies need more help. Andrew Painter needs help, too. He’s struggling as a rookie. We spoke to 2008 World Series champion Chad Durbin about Painter’s issues -- Durbin can relate -- and how he can improve in the coming weeks. Chad also talks about Roy Halladay, Christopher Sánchez, Zack Wheeler and much more. A lot of great insight from Durbin, who’s one of baseball’s all-time good guys. Jhoan Duran might be Phillies' most talented closer ever
Jhoan Duran might be the most talented closer in Phillies history, but nobody is perfect. He blew his first save of the season on Tuesday night in Toronto. Duran had saved 16 consecutive games to start the season. Where do we rank Duran compared to past Phillies closers like Tug McGraw, Billy Wagner, Brad Lidge and Jonathan Papelbon? We also talk about Adolis García’s and Trea Turner’s recent performances, Christopher Sánchez’s and Zack Wheeler’s dominance and Jim spanking his tomatoes again. Brandon Marsh has become one of baseball's best hitters
The Phillies played 13 consecutive games without scoring five or more runs, until their series finale last week against the Padres. Then this weekend against the White Sox, they scored 20 runs to win another series. Everybody has been waiting for this for some time, but can it last? Does it change how you think about the trade deadline, if this continues? We talk about the Phillies’ offense, the best performances of the past week, Andrew Painter’s fastball troubles and more. Thinking ahead: potential trade targets for the Phillies
The Phillies finally scored more than four runs in a game in Thursday’s victory over San Diego. It’s the first time they’ve done that since May 18! They continue to win under Don Mattingly, but it seems clear they will need a bat before the Aug. 3 trade deadline. But who? Or they could just go all-in and try to win with elite pitching. Tarik Skubal anybody? We discuss the Phillies’ trade possibilities, Cristophe Sánchez’s historic scoreless innings streak coming to an end, Nick Castellanos getting DFA’d in Philly, Aidan Miller’s back procedure and more. How the Phillies traded for Cristopher Sánchez
Cristopher Sánchez's pursuit of Major League Baseball history continues on Wednesday night at Citizens Bank Park. He will begin the game with a 44 2/3-innings scoreless streak. Former Phillies general manager and current Brewers executive Matt Klentak joined the show this week to tell the story behind the trade that brought Sánchez to Philadelphia in November 201. It wasn’t a major trade at the time. Far from it. But it will go down as one of the greatest trades in Phillies history. Klentak also tells stories about how the Phillies signed free-agent Zack Wheeler in Dec. 2019, acquired J.T. Realmuto in a trade in Feb. 2019 and more! Adolis García and the Phillies' struggling offense
The Phillies went 4-2 on a road trip through San Diego and Los Angeles, which typically would be time to celebrate. But the Phillies’ struggling offense is a growing concern. They haven’t scored five runs in a game since May 18. They haven’t had 10 hits in a game since May 15. The Phillies are 21-10 since Don Mattingly became interim manager, but in that time they rank 29th in baseball with a .291 on-base percentage, 17 with a .693 OPS and 16th in runs per game (4.23). What do they do about Adolis García? What is up with Aidan Miller’s bad back? It’s “Best Week” by Manco & Manco Pizza! Simply the Best: Cristopher Sánchez makes Phillies history
Cristopher Sánchez on Wednesday passed Grover Cleveland Alexander for the longest scoreless innings streak by a Phillies pitcher since 1893. Sánchez’s streak of 44 ⅔ innings is the seventh-longest in MLB in the live-ball era (1920). It’s 11th in MLB in the modern era (1900). He can move into fifth place on the moder-era list with just four scoreless innings in his next start. Can he possibly pass Orel Hershiser? We take a trip down memory lane, talking about Hershiser, Carl Hubbell, Rob Thomson and more. ⚾ 🔔 Love the show? Phillies drop Trea Turner from leadoff spot, Kyle Schwaber moves up
The Phillies have made another change at the top. Phillies interim manager Don Mattingly dropped Trea Turner from the leadoff spot before Tuesday night’s 4-3 victory over San Diego at Petco Park. He flipped Turner and Kyle Schwarber in the 1-2 spots. Turner homered. Maybe it’s the start of something. The Phillies’ right-handed batters have been terrible this year, so they need something to happen quickly. We talk about those struggles, plus look at some right-handed bats to target at the trade deadline. Mike Trout? Sánchez and Wheeler might be best 1-2 punch in Phillies history.
We might be watching the Phillies’ best two pitching performances in a season in franchise history. Christopher Sanchez tossed eight scoreless innings on Friday. He has a 37 ⅔-inning scoreless streak. Zack Wheeler tossed six scoreless innings on Saturday. Sanchez has a 1.62 ERA. Wheeler has a 1.67 ERA. If they keep this up, they could be the best 1-2 punch by any rotation in Phillies history. Better than Roy Halladay and Cliff Lee in 2011. Better than Jim Bunning and Chris Short in the mid-60s. Better than Steve Carlton and John Denny in 1983. Of course, you need more than pitching to win. We also discuss the team’s offensive struggles during a 2-4 homestand. 🔔 It’s “Best Week” by Manco & Manco Pizza! What's behind Aaron Nola's and J.T. Realmuto's struggles
We spent Wednesday about three Phillies trending upward: Alec Bohm, Bryson Stott and Andrew Painter. But we’re spending Friday’s show talking about the very real concerns we have about Aaron Nola and J.T. Realmuto. Nola has a 6.02 ERA over 27 starts over the past two years. It’s no longer a blip on the radar. Nobody can point to Nola’s health, which they could last season. His struggles are troubling, especially when you remember he has 4+ years remaining on a seven-year, $172 million contract. J.T. Realmuto just signed a three-year, $45 million contract in January, but he’s struggling mightily in his age-35 season. We’re concerned. How concerned are you? 🔔 ⚾ Love the show? The Phillies have played only 12 games, but it doesn’t mean fans can’t be frustrated. But should they overreact? We asked you for your Phillies questions, and you delivered once again. A series win: Phillies show flashes in Colorado
The Phillies scored seven runs in the first inning in Friday’s series opener in Colorado, and everybody had to be thinking … here comes the offense. The Phils won two of three this weekend in Colorado, but they scored only three runs in the final two games of the series. Fortunately, Jesús Luzardo pitched a gem in Saturday’s 2-1 victory. Unfortunately, Taijuan Walker did not in Sunday’s 4-1 loss. Takeaways from the weekend in both the hitting and pitching side? It’s “Best Week” by Manco & Manco Pizza! Youth is served: Justin Crawford, Andrew Painter lead Phillies
Thank goodness for Phillies rookies Andrew Painter and Justin Crawford. Painter led the way to a victory on Tuesday, when he made his MLB debut. Crawford’s walk-off hit in the 10th inning on Wednesday allowed the Phillies to win their first series of the season. They’ve provided a jolt to the Phillies, who are struggling offensively. Phillies fans had been waiting years for Andrew Painter’s Phillies debut. Painter had been waiting his entire life. But Tuesday’s MLB debut was worth the wait. Bona Fide Superstar: Cristopher Sánchez leads Phillies on Opening Day
The Phillies opened another World Series-or-bust season with a solid 5-3 win over Texas on a beautiful Thursday afternoon at Citizens Bank Park. The Rangers called Cristopher Sánchez a bona fide superstar. Kyle Schwarber did his thing … hitting his third Opening Day homer for the Phillies in just five years. Bryce Harper's mission: chase less, walk more, win more
Bryce Harper returned to Phillies camp on Thursday, and he had several interesting things to say. He talked about playing for Team USA in the World Baseball Classic, of course. But he also talked about his swing and how he has been chasing fewer pitches outside the strike zone. It’s a real focus of Harper’s, who has learned this spring that it won’t matter who’s protecting him in the lineup if he’s swinging at pitches outside the zone. Bravo! Aaron Nola looks "pretty dang good" this spring.
We say it almost every episode in the spring: Don’t go crazy over spring training performances -- good or bad. But Aaron Nola sure has looked good this spring. He pitched five scoreless innings for Team Italy in Wednesday night’s 9-1 victory over Mexico in the World Baseball Classic. Nola not only helped Italy go 4-0 in pool play, but he saved Team USA from potentially being eliminated from the tournament. We talk a lot about Nola and his chances of bouncing back in 2026, Chase Utley’s induction onto the Phillies’ Wall of Fame and Zack Wheeler’s live BP on Saturday. Simply the Best: Kyle Schwarber powers Team USA

Andrew Painter’s spring debut: two innings of hope and promise
Three years later, Andrew Painter delivered the goods. He threw two scoreless innings on Sunday against the Yankees in his first Grapefruit League start in exactly three years. It’s been a long road back for Painter, who had Tommy John surgery in 2023. But in a 20-pitch effort against several quality big leaguers, Painter pounded the strike zone and got early contact.
