WE ARE DAMAGED, and YOU DID IT, UNKNOWINGLY! As children, we heard the phrase, "What goes on in this house, stays in this house." It was protection against people knowing the private family business. Children were made to protect their secrets, but who rescued them mentally? In black families, three key words were emphasized: loyalty, food, and religion. The bottom line, we need therapy because of the secrets. Mental health is more important than someone prying into your business. Chances are, people already know the secrets. If you want to see the damage the phrase caused, look in the mirror!
