Sometimes the math doesn't make sense, and that's why it is called "personal finance". It's extremely personal and no two financial plans are the exact same, because no two individuals have the exact same goals, with the exact same financial picture.

Financial success starts and ends with your perspective on money. You have to decide what success means to you, and from there determine your steps to get there. It won't be easy. It will be simple. Getting from point A to point B is always simple. The hard part comes when you come to a huge obstacle on the way to point B. Most people give up, but if you know your "why" and attach it to your definition of success, it'll make your journey much more enjoyable. On the other side of fear is amazing.

Sometimes you have to work outside of your 9-5 in order to reach your financial goals, or to simply afford the freedom to travel where you want. This is where side hustles come into play.

Across all walks of life, support systems are paramount. They can help you when you're in a rut, be your cheerleader when you're winning or losing, and provide sound wisdom on major life decisions. Support systems can take on a multitude of forms, mentors, study groups, significant others, family members...all that matters is that you have one.

For young professionals and millennials, everywhere you turn there is a competing financial obligation. Down-payment for a house, a social life, traveling, a family, student loans (can't forget about those), and the list goes on. So where do you start? It's possible to take your net cash flow after expenses and split it equally into your goals. If you're like most people, you'll have to priorities your goals, and then sacrifice one or two (because the top goals are THAT important).

There is a heated debate among financial professionals all over. Which comes first paying off debt or funding an emergency fund. We think it's a little bit of both.
