The Polyester Man

For over two decades we’ve been creating music with the purpose of making people laugh and entertaining listeners through storytelling. We are The Hillbilly Junction Boys, a country music and comedy duo who use quick witted, edgy humor, and stories from our country roots to write and perform songs that not only make you laugh but offer a window into rural and small town life. #ThePolyesterManPodcast will share one of our songs each episode (we’ve written nearly 100 songs) and then we’ll tell the stories behind that song.

    Polyester

Polyester really is the fabric of The Hillbilly Junction Boys' lives. Its stretchy, comforting properties highlight all of our assets. We mention Polyester in several of our songs, discussions and podcast episodes so it's no surprise we did an entire episode on it. It's not just about the tight fitting magic fabric though. We also named our boat the Polyester Princess and on this episode we're telling some fish tales about that boat and our experiences on the water. Let's see what the two mariners have to discuss in Episode 11, Polyester.

    Buh-Reet-O

Have you ever felt out of place, like really out of place? We've felt that many times in our lives, especially when you take these small town boys and add them to the mix of a big city. One time in particular sticks out. Near our destination of Branson, MO, we stopped in Kansas City to fuel up. This was our first solo trip without our parents, far away and in an unfamiliar city. The stories told of that trip, and the other stories we share will have you laughing, and relating. Enjoy Pay Before You Pump, and the Polyster Man Podcast, episode 11.

    Sesame Seed

There are certain things that everyone should be aware of. They may seem to be common sense, but some folks have to lear "the hard way." That's why we wrote Stuff You Need to Know. It's a collection of knowledge put down in a song. We share some stories from our childhood, and young adulthood to help you avoid the pitfalls we experienced. Homework? Make sure you know what a cod piece is before you listen.

  4. 8

    Double Bunk

In a special episode of The Polyester Man, we're joined by our parents for a live jam session of one of our signature songs, "Dance Polyester Man." The Hillbilly Junction Boys were birthed wearing tight polyester pants and it's a theme running through our music and our lives. This is a song about the places we've performed and the stories we have to tell from our experiences with our fans.

  5. 7

    Beanbag

Driving through a neighborhood late summer after a hailstorm has hit a town you'll often see blue tarps covering the sidewalk, fill your lungs with the smell of tar and wood dust, and hear the sound pop, pop, pop, pop coming from the rooves of houses. That's the sound of a nail gun in the hand of a skilled worker laying down shingles. This episode is dedicated to those who protect your homes from the wind and rain, and the adventures and stories of blue collar workers.

  6. 6

    5 O'Clock Shadow

Life can lonely in a small town. Sometimes you have to turn to "outside" sources for love. Long before the internet your only hope for a sure thing was the mail order bride. The catalog explores the possibilities of an international page by page mail order bride adventure!

  7. 5

    Rag Top

Your first car is like your first kiss, it's one of those things that you'll never forget. That's a line from our song, "Long Live the Cougar." Welcome back,! This is episode five of The Polyester Man podcast and in this episode we're talking all things cars, especially first cars, and most especially our first car (that's right hand me downs:) a 1979 Mercury Cougar. It didn't have T Tops, it didn't go zero to sixty in 4 seconds, and it certainly wasn't a sports car. But it was a vehicle for road trips, freedom and memories. Listen up as we share some fun stories about this car, growing up in rural Colorado, and how our dad drove up our gravel drive in what would become the legend of The Cougar.

  8. 4

    Flat Top

Growing up in rural Colorado, at least 30 miles from any town, you did a lot of things for yourself that, if you lived in town, you'd totally hire someone else to do. One of those things was getting your haircut by a family member, usually your mom. Our mom gave many homemade haircuts, usually with choppy spots in our crew cuts. These homemade haircuts gave us a lot of character growing up and that's what this episode is dedicated to, one of our first original songs, "Homemade Haircut." We created music videos for some of our songs. Here's the link to the music video: https://youtu.be/I0X_w-toQsg?feature=shared

  9. 3

    Sup Dude

In the third episode of The Polyester Man podcast the boys discuss all things cowboy–especially those fancy, jingled up dime store dudes. The greeting Sup Dude takes on a whole new meaning. In their song, "Cowboy Up," the wanna be cowboy takes his obsession to a whole new level. They also talk about riding bulls and pigs and get nostalgic as they talk about their grandpa, a real life cowboy of the American West.

  10. 2

    Valvoline

There are many common phrases we use everyday without thinking about them. The Hillbilly Junction Boys do an amazing job of taking little things and creating a funny song about it. The phrase of the day is busted chops. In the second episode of The Polyester Man podcast, the boys share about frustrating situations of dealing with customer service, losing their tempers (with hilarious results) and much more!

  11. 1

    Aw Nuts

Welcome to episode one of The Polyester Man podcast. Jason and Russell Anderson, also know as Bud Catfish Dickerson and Biff Bobcat Rogers, the founding members of the musical comedy band The Hillbilly Junction Boys talk about their music and their lives. The first episode focuses on one of their songs, Brandin'. This song is a tribute to rural life and details what branding cattle is and is not. You'll hear some funny stories and get an inside look at life on the plains of Northeastern Colorado.
