First Light, Fences - Ep 41

Most fences aren't made of wood or wire. Some are invisible. This week Chuck reflects on the unseen boundaries the Lord places in our lives. Just as an invisible fence protects without always being seen, God often guides, redirects, and guards us in ways we don't immediately recognize. We may not always understand why He says "no," changes our path, or asks us to wait, but His boundaries are never meant to hold us back. They're there to keep us close to Him and walking in His will. "Whether you turn to the right or to the left, your ears will hear a voice behind you, saying, 'This is the way; walk in it.'"  — Isaiah 30:21

First Light, Bog Rider - Ep 41

This week on First Light, Chuck revisits the verse that started it all: "His mercies are new every morning." In a world that constantly pulls our attention in every direction, we're reminded that no matter what yesterday held, God's faithfulness never changes. Every sunrise is another opportunity to trust Him, lean on His grace, and begin again.

  3. 231

First Light, Anxiety - Ep 40

Anxiety is something most of us face, yet it often feels like a burden we're meant to carry alone. This week, Chuck opens up about some of the situations in his own life that have brought anxiety and uncertainty, and why trying to control every outcome only leaves us more exhausted. Through personal experience and biblical truth, he shares a simple reminder: the weight of tomorrow was never ours to carry. When anxiety creeps in, our answer isn't found in having all the solutions, but in trusting the One who does.

First Light, EIEO - Ep 39

n Episode 39 of First Light, Chuck reflects on how the things that matter most in life take time. Whether it's learning a new skill, building something meaningful, or strengthening a relationship, growth rarely happens overnight. The same is true in our walk with the Lord. A strong relationship with God isn't built in a moment. It comes from spending time with Him consistently, trusting Him through every season, and allowing Him to work in our lives day by day. Join Chuck as he shares why patience, consistency, and time are essential ingredients for growth, both in life and in faith. First Light is a podcast of hope.

First Light, Why Sunrise - Ep 38

Every sunrise is a gift we don't deserve, yet one we're blessed to receive. In this episode, Chuck reflects on the meaning of sunrise, not just as the start of a new day, but as a reminder of God's faithfulness. No matter what happened yesterday, each morning brings new mercy, new opportunity, and another chance to walk with Him. Just as the first light breaks through the darkness, God's presence remains constant in our lives, offering hope, direction, and purpose with every new day.

  6. 228

First Light, Known - Ep 37

Chuck shares how a shepherd knows his sheep, and the sheep know their shepherd — just as the Lord knows us and calls us by name. Throughout First Light, we've been reminded that we are seen, led, and deeply loved by God. There's peace in knowing the voice of the Good Shepherd.

  7. 227

First Light, Mercy - Ep 36

In this episode Chuck reflects on the powerful reminder that the Lord's mercies are made new every single morning, at first light. He walks through The Epistle to the Romans and explains how God's grace, freedom, and promises meet us fresh each day no matter what we're carrying. This episode is an encouraging conversation about living without condemnation, trusting the Spirit, and finding hope in the unchanging mercy of God.

  8. 226

First Light, Wake Up - Ep 35

Chuck talks about the start of each day and what it really means. First light is more than a time on the clock. It's a reminder of the resurrection of Christ and the opportunity for Him to be present in your life daily. Just like the sun breaks the darkness every morning, we're given a fresh start, a chance to walk in His light and live with purpose. Chuck explains how that idea is the foundation behind "First Light" and why the name matters.

  9. 225

First Light, Rest - Ep 34

Turkey season has been everything we wait for all year! Early mornings, long days, and miles in the woods. It wears you down in the best way, but it still wears you down. Chuck talks about that feeling of being tired, yet continuing to show up, staying faithful to what's in front of you. Whether it's time in the woods, time with family, or time with the Lord, the responsibility doesn't go away just because you're worn out. True rest isn't just slowing down, it's leaning into Him and finding strength where your own runs out.

  10. 224

First Light, Searching - Ep 33

Searching isn't just something we do in the woods — it's something we're called to do in life. In this episode of First Light, Chuck talks about what it means to truly seek the Lord and trust His direction, even when the path isn't clear. Just like those early mornings chasing a gobble or working through a slow hunt, there are seasons where you have to stay patient, keep moving, and believe you'll find what you're after. Time and time again, the outdoors reminds us that the reward comes to those who keep searching with purpose. The same goes for our walk with Him — seek Him daily, trust His timing, and you'll find exactly what you need. "Seek the Lord and His strength; seek His presence continually." – 1 Chronicles 16:11

  11. 223

First Light, Remember and Forget - Ep 32

In this episode, Chuck talks about how hard it can be to hold on to what matters and let go of what doesn't. We tend to remember the wrong things—mistakes, regrets, and burdens—and forget the truth, the blessings, and the ways the Lord has carried us through. Scripture calls us to do the opposite. To remember God's faithfulness, His provision, and His promises, while learning to lay down our past and trust that it's been covered. There's a balance in that. Remembering keeps us grounded and grateful. Forgetting—when it comes to sin and failure—is what allows us to move forward with freedom. As it says in Philippians 3:13, "forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead," we're called to keep our focus forward, trusting in where He's leading next. It's not easy, but it's necessary. Remember who He is. Forget what's been forgiven. Walk forward in faith.

  12. 222

First Light, Easter - Ep 31

Easter is a reminder of what matters most. Not just the resurrection, but what it represents—grace, sacrifice, and a love that never wavers. It is a time to slow down, gather with family, and be thankful for the blessings right in front of us. The same way we make time for the woods, we're called to make time for the people we love and the faith that guides us. Being around family on Easter carries a different kind of weight. It is about presence. About gratitude. About remembering that everything we have is given, not earned. "He is not here; He has risen, just as He said." — Matthew 28:6 Hold onto that. Keep the Lord at the center, and don't take a single moment with your people for granted.

  13. 221

First Light, Wisdom - Ep 30

First Light 30 - Wisdom. Chuck looks back on his first turkey hunt, when a bird worked its way up the ridge and into range, but in the moment he froze and never pulled the trigger. It was a missed opportunity, but one that stayed with him. That hunt taught him how turkeys move, how quickly a moment can come together, and how important it is to be ready when it does. Life carries the same lessons. We all have moments we wish we could have back, but those are often the ones God uses to shape us. Through failure and missed chances, He builds patience, awareness, and wisdom for what's ahead. "For the Lord gives wisdom; from His mouth come knowledge and understanding." — Proverbs 2:6 What felt like a mistake in the moment became a foundation for the future. The same way in life, God uses every step, even the missteps, to prepare us for what's next.

  14. 220

First Light, Spring - Ep 29

There's something about spring that just feels different. The air is lighter, the woods come back to life, and a fresh sense of hope fills the days ahead. It's a season everyone looks forward to — a reminder of new beginnings, restored strength, and time spent in the places we love most. In this episode, Chuck reflects on why that feeling runs deeper than just warmer weather and green fields. Spring reminds us to slow down, appreciate what the Lord has placed in front of us, and keep Him at the center of everything we do. That sense of renewal, gratitude, and purpose is what fuels our spirit and guides our path. It's more than a season — it's a reminder of where our blessings come from and the faith that carries us forward.

  15. 219

First Light, Make Plans - Ep 28

In this episode of First Light, Chuck talks about the importance of making plans while trusting God with the path ahead. Preparation is part of wisdom, and taking the right precautions when stepping into the future helps us walk with confidence and clarity. While we can't control every outcome, being thoughtful, patient, and intentional in our planning allows us to move forward responsibly. Chuck reminds us that faith and preparation go hand in hand, we do our part by planning carefully, and we trust the Lord to guide our steps, open the right doors, and carry us where we're meant to be.

  16. 218

First Light, People - Ep 27

In this episode of First Light 27, Chuck dives into something we all wrestle with — people. Our purpose isn't complicated, but it is challenging: love others, be kind to everyone, and lead with patience even when it's not returned. In a world that's quick to judge and quicker to react, we're called to slow down and let love surround the way we treat people. The Bible reminds us in 1 Corinthians 13:4–7 that love is patient and kind. It doesn't envy, it doesn't boast, it isn't proud. That kind of love changes how we handle conflict, how we speak, and how we show up daily. And in John 13:35, we're told that people will know we belong to Him by the way we love one another. At the end of the day, our faith isn't just something we talk about. It's something people should feel when they're around us. Patience in frustration. Kindness in disagreement. Grace when it's undeserved. People matter. And loving them well is part of the purpose we were created for.

Ep 192 - On the Phone with Hunter Wallis and Josh Grossenbacher

Fresh off his Grand Nationals win in Nashville, Hunter Wallis joins Spence and Drake on the phone — along with Josh Grossenbacher — to really break down the competition. They dive deep into the details of Grand Nationals: the preparation, the pressure on stage, how the routines came together, and what it takes to win at that level. From the mental side of competing to the small adjustments that make a big difference, this episode gives an inside look at what separates good from great. With turkey season right around the corner, it's a strong conversation about momentum, focus, and carrying that competitive edge from the stage into the spring woods.

  18. 216

First Light, Time - Ep 26

Time has a way of revealing what really matters. In this episode, Chuck reflects on how becoming a good shepherd doesn't happen overnight. It takes patience, consistency, and a willingness to show up day after day—even when progress feels slow. So the question becomes: if it takes us this long to learn, to grow, and to lead well… does the Lord already know that? And if He does, does He still desire the relationship first? Maybe the waiting, the learning, and the slow shaping of who we are isn't a delay at all. Maybe it's the process He uses to draw us closer to Him. Not rushing the outcome, but building the relationship along the way. Because sometimes the time it takes is exactly the point.

  19. 215

First Light, Just Click Follow - Ep 25

First Light Ep. 25 — Just Click Follow Trust doesn't come natural, especially when you can't see where the path leads. In this episode, Chuck talks about how following the Lord often feels like stepping into the unknown, where logic, comfort, and control all want to push back. But faith was never meant to feel safe; it was meant to be obedient. "Just click follow" sounds simple, but living it out means surrendering the need to understand every step before you take it. Sometimes what's right won't feel right at first. Sometimes the best direction is the one you wouldn't have chosen on your own. Learning to trust Him is learning to move before you have all the answers.

  20. 214

First Light, Wants and Needs - Ep 24

In this episode of First Light, Chuck takes a hard look at the difference between what we want and what we truly need. It's easy to chase the things we think will satisfy us, only to find they leave us wanting more. Chuck ties this struggle back to the Lord, reminding us that God already knows our needs, often better than we do. He provides exactly what we're meant to have, right on time. Another thoughtful and grounding episode of First Light that challenges us to trust Him and realign our hearts with what truly matters.

  21. 213

First Light, Fear - Ep 23

In this episode of First Light, Chuck talks about fear and what it feels like, where it shows up, and how it can either stop us or shape us. Through personal stories of moments when he was genuinely scared but chose to do the right thing anyway, Chuck reminds us that fear isn't always something to avoid—it's often something to walk through with faith. He ties those experiences back to Scripture and the reminder found in Psalm 27:1: "The Lord is my light and my salvation—whom shall I fear? The Lord is the stronghold of my life—of whom shall I be afraid?" A quiet encouragement to trust God, even when fear is loud.

  22. 212

First Light, Not What I Wanted - Ep 22

In this episode of First Light, Chuck reflects on the nature of sheep and their relationship with a shepherd. Sheep don't always understand what the shepherd is doing, and because of that, they often resist—confusing guidance for restriction and protection for loss. Chuck connects this truth to our own lives. When God's direction doesn't line up with what we want, it can feel disappointing or even wrong. But often, that feeling isn't because His plan is bad—it's because we don't yet understand what's best for us. Not What I Wanted is a reminder that trust is built in the unknown, and that the Shepherd sees the full picture even when we don't.

  23. 211

First Light, Sheep - Ep 21

In this episode of First Light, Chuck reflects on the nature of sheep—how they begin wary, unsure, and cautious of everything around them. Over time, they learn to recognize and trust their shepherd, understanding that he leads them with purpose and care. In the same way, we often struggle to see what's ahead in our own lives. We don't always understand God's plan, and uncertainty can make us hesitant to follow. But faith calls us to trust the Shepherd, even when the path isn't clear, knowing He leads us where we need to go.

  24. 210

First Light, Christmas - Ep 20

Chuck Halford reflects on Christmas and the idea of anticipation. He shares a simple reminder from childhood—sneaking a look at your gifts never compares to the joy of the surprise. In the same way, we don't always see how the Lord is working in our lives. Sometimes the waiting, the unknown, and the trust are part of the gift itself. This episode is a reminder to lean into faith, trust God's timing, and embrace the beauty of not always knowing what's coming next. "For we walk by faith, not by sight." — 2 Corinthians 5:7

  25. 209

First Light, Thankfulness - Ep 19

In this week's episode, Chuck reflects on living with a heart of gratitude — not just when life falls into place, but in every moment God gives us. As we move through the holidays and approach Christmas, it's easy to get distracted by plans, gifts, and the rush of the season. Chuck reminds us that true thankfulness isn't tied to circumstances, but to recognizing God's goodness in every part of our lives. Whether it's family, fellowship, quiet mornings, or the challenges that teach us, we're invited to give thanks in all things — because every blessing comes from Him.   "Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you." — 1 Thessalonians 5:18

  26. 208

First Light, Waiting - Ep 18

This week Chuck turns our eyes toward Advent — a season built on anticipation. Christmas didn't happen overnight… God's people waited generations for the promised Savior. And even now, the best things in life are formed in the seasons where we learn to wait well. Chuck reminds us that waiting isn't a punishment or a pause — it's part of God's process. Just like Christmas came in God's perfect timing, the blessings, answers, and direction we're praying for will too. Waiting stretches our faith, teaches patience, and reminds us that God is writing a story far better than anything we could force on our own. "But when the fullness of time had come, God sent forth His Son…" – Galatians 4:4

  27. 207

First Light, What did you forget - Ep 17

It's opening weekend in Arkansas, and everything moves fast. Gear gets tossed in the boat, trucks get loaded in a hurry, and sooner or later somebody realizes they forgot something important. Chuck uses that moment we all know too well to dig into something deeper—how quick decisions, rushed mornings, and overlooked details mirror the way we sometimes move through life as believers. In this episode, he reminds us that the Lord doesn't just guide our steps, He places the right desires in our hearts when we slow down long enough to look to Him. What we forget, how we respond, and the choices we make in the moment reveal exactly where our focus is—and where it should be. "In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths." — Proverbs 3:6

  28. 206

First Light, Kingdom Living - Ep 16

First Light Ep. 16 — Kingdom Living In this episode, Chuck Halford wraps up the six responses that are often referred to as the six steps for living as a believer. He reminds us that these aren't just steps to follow, but natural responses to God that become evident in the life of every believer. Chuck encourages us to look for these moments in our everyday lives, to nurture them, and to let them grow as we trust in God and His promises. "But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you." — Matthew 6:33 "As you therefore have received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in Him." — Colossians 2:6

  29. 205

Ep 192 - Into The Vault

In this episode of the Rolling Thunder Podcast, Spence sits down with Ducks Unlimited conservationist David Schuessler and longtime waterfowler Jimbo Robinson to crack open DU's "Into the Vault" — the organization's premier auction featuring rare and one-of-a-kind items. Together they dive into how the event fuels DU's mission to conserve wetlands and waterfowl habitat, what makes this year's lineup of firearms, artwork, and outdoor experiences stand out, and why "Into the Vault" has become a must-watch moment for hunters and collectors alike.

  30. 204

First Light, Obedience - Ep 15

In this episode, Chuck continues walking through his six responses to God — a simple but powerful framework that every believer can follow. Today, he talks about obedience — what it really means to follow God's will even when it's not easy, and how true faith shows itself through action. Another step forward in faith, humility, and trust.

  31. 203

First Light, Forgiveness - Ep 14

In this episode, Chuck Halford continues on his six responses to God that everyone can follow, focusing on one of the hardest steps for most of us — forgiveness. Whether it's forgiving others or learning to forgive ourselves, true peace can't begin until we let go of the weight we carry. Drawing from scripture and real-life experiences, Chuck reminds us that forgiveness isn't a feeling — it's obedience. "Be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, as God in Christ forgave you." – Ephesians 4:32

  32. 202

First Light, Repent - Ep 13

Following last week's message on Humility, Chuck Halford continues his walk through the six responses to God — this time focusing on repentance. Building on the idea that humility opens the door to seeing our need for God, Chuck explains that repentance is what moves us through it. It's not just about feeling sorry, but about real change — turning away from sin and choosing to walk in obedience. With scripture and real-life perspective, Chuck reminds us that repentance is a gift that brings restoration, peace, and a renewed closeness with the Lord. "If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness." — 1 John 1:9

  33. 201

First Light, Humility - Ep 12

In this episode, Chuck Halford continues the six responses to God—following last week's focus on honesty—with a lesson on humility. He reminds us that humility is more than modesty; it's the doorway to repentance, forgiveness, obedience, and true kingdom living. Chuck explains how pride blinds us to God's grace, while humility opens our hearts to His correction and mercy. By laying down self-reliance, we make room for renewal and strength that only the Lord can provide. Key Verses: "Humble yourselves before the Lord, and He will lift you up." — James 4:10 "For everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, and he who humbles himself will be exalted." — Luke 14:11 "With the humble is wisdom." — Proverbs 11:2 Real freedom begins when we stop trying to be in control and simply bow before God.

  34. 200

First Light, Honesty - Ep 11

In this episode of First Light, Chuck Halford introduces the six responses to God that every believer can follow—beginning with honesty. He explains how true freedom starts when we're willing to be truthful with ourselves, with others, and with God. Honesty opens the door for the next steps: humility, repentance, forgiveness, obedience, and kingdom living. "Whoever conceals their sins does not prosper, but the one who confesses and renounces them finds mercy." — Proverbs 28:13

  35. 199

First Light, Sobriety - Ep 10

In Episode 10 of the First Light Podcast, Chuck Halford takes on the topic of sobriety and the pull of addiction that so many face. He reminds listeners that temptation is always present and raises an important question: Should we keep sinning just because God's grace is always there? Chuck points to the truth that grace is not a license to remain in sin, but the strength God gives to overcome it and walk in freedom. Romans 6:1–2 "What shall we say, then? Shall we go on sinning so that grace may increase? By no means! We are those who have died to sin; how can we live in it any longer?" 1 Corinthians 10:13 "No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can endure it."

  36. 198

First Light, Fighter - Ep 9

In this episode of First Light, Chuck Halford shares a heartfelt story from his life as a veterinarian, focusing on one unforgettable dog named Fighter. Born still and against all odds pulling through, Fighter lived up to her name in every way. She became a constant source of joy at the shop—greeting customers, lifting spirits, and shining light into every situation. More than just a loyal companion, Fighter was a living reminder of God's grace and His presence in our daily lives. Lamentations 3:22–23 – "The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness."

  37. 197

First Light, My Story - Ep 8

In Episode 8 of First Light, Chuck Halford shares his story of unwavering faith and how God has been a steady presence throughout his life—from childhood to today. Raised with a deep love for the Lord, Chuck reflects on how his walk with God shaped him from a young age and gave him strength and direction as he grew. He also shares how that same faith sustains him through life's hardest moments. In the aftermath of tragedy, Chuck has witnessed how God moves among His people—drawing hearts together, grounding them in Scripture, and bringing healing through His Word. These moments serve as powerful reminders that even in pain and loss, the Lord is working, redeeming, and revealing His unshakable love. Chuck's story is a testimony that God is not only present in the joy and the peace—but also in the grief, the questions, and the aftermath. His faith proves what Scripture tells us: God never leaves His people. He is always there.

  38. 196

First Light, Stuck - Ep 7

In this powerful episode, Chuck Halford dives into the feeling of being stuck — in life, in faith, or in circumstances beyond our control. He unpacks how difficult and disorienting these seasons can be, but reminds us that through the Lord's wisdom and guidance, we don't have to stay there. Drawing from Romans 12:1–2, Chuck challenges us to reject the patterns of this world and renew our minds through biblical thinking — because true transformation doesn't come from culture, but from Christ. When life feels stuck, God is still at work. As Psalm 40:2 says, "He lifted me out of the slimy pit, out of the mud and mire; he set my feet on a rock and gave me a firm place to stand." Tune in and be encouraged to lean on the Lord, renew your mind, and keep moving forward in faith.

  39. 195

First Light, Drifitng - Ep 6

In this episode of First Light, Chuck Halford reflects on the importance of paying attention—not just in the small details of life, but in the most important relationship we have: our walk with the Lord. He shares how being present and attentive can shape our faith, our decisions, and the way we live each day. Drawing from Scripture, Chuck reminds us to "set your minds on things above, not on earthly things" (Colossians 3:2), and to "pay attention to what you hear. With the measure you use, it will be measured to you—and still more will be added to you" (Mark 4:24). This episode calls us to slow down, tune in, and pay attention to the One who is always present and guiding us.

  40. 194

First Light, You Can Trust the Sun - Ep 5

In this episode of the First Light Podcast, Chuck reflects on lessons drawn from his past hunting spots and the simple tools that guided him—like carrying a compass into the field. Just as a compass points you in the right direction, he explains how faith in the Lord provides direction for life. The object of your faith, he reminds us, is what you will ultimately worship. Chuck also shares a powerful reminder: "You Can Trust the Sun." Each sunrise declares God's presence and prominence, a daily assurance that He is constant and unchanging. Through hunting stories, Scripture, and personal reflection, this episode encourages listeners to keep their eyes fixed on the true source of direction and strength.

  41. 193

Ep 191 - Winter Timber Outdoors

The two dive into the vision behind the shop, the importance of location, and what makes the concept stand out. They also reflect on the value of seeing a brick-and-mortar storefront thrive in today's waterfowl industry—a reminder that community, tradition, and face-to-face connections are still at the heart of the business.

  42. 192

First Light, The Right Focus - Ep 4

Chuck unpacks The Four F's — Friends, Foundation, Focus, and Faith — and how each plays a vital role in building a meaningful and God-centered life. He explores how these guiding principles can shape a believer's journey by pursuing a deeper, more purposeful life goal. Chuck reminds listeners that while our paths may shift, and life's direction can change over time, God remains constant — present in every decision, every step, and every season. With a blend of Scripture, personal insight, and practical wisdom, this episode offers encouragement for keeping faith at the center, no matter where life leads.

  43. 191

First Light, The Right Foundation - Ep 3

In this episode, Chuck Halford continues exploring The Four F's — Friends, Foundation, Focus, and Faith — timeless principles for living a God-centered life. He focuses on the first two, Friends and Foundation, sharing how meaningful relationships and a solid grounding in Scripture can guide believers through every season. Chuck emphasizes that "success" isn't measured by worldly standards, but by pursuing a life rooted in God's presence and purpose. With heartfelt stories and biblical insight, this episode lays the groundwork for a deeper discussion that continues in the next installment.

  44. 190
