Episode 36 - Blue (And Gold) LIFE Redemption
The Sabres have won every game this year, in case you didn't know. So that's pretty fun. Will they ever lose again? No. But we can imagine them losing, and that's what Sabreland is all about. Also - Happy Thanksgiving!
-

Episode 35 - Do These Come In Bruins?
The Sabres are good! And fun! And -- more importantly -- they represent to Gordon a revolutionary type of relating to things. This season is somewhat reminiscent of 2005-2006... but also is totally different. Find out why! Also Gordon overheard a funny phrase in the NHL Store this week, which lends this episode its title.
-
34
Episode 34 - Bang Franklin
Gordon is joined by his friend Steve Marks for a wide-ranging chat about Central and Western New York sports memories, mascot theories, whether sports are fun, and whether we can have fun as fans. Also mentioned, Thai Domi and Bang Franklin.

33
Episode 33 - For The First Time In Forever
We've had two games of the 2018-2019 season, and the Sabres have given two very different games. But overall this has gone much better than the first two games of last season (the second of which Gordon attended in Brooklyn). The Bills also won a goofy game today. So overall this is a good start to the season!
-
32
Episode 32 - The Ball I Threw In The Park
It's sports season! And you know what that means -- MEN telling you what matters and how to feel. Yep. It's terrible. And the country is terrible. So what do we do?
-
31
Episode 31 - Adverse Selection
It's a post-Prospect Tournament, pre-pre-season spectacular! Listen as Gordon inadvertently destroys the origin story of the Sabreland podcast! Be dazzled as Gordon invokes the terminology of a recent insurance exam he took as he inspects the finer aspects of Sabres and Bills fandom!
-
30
Episode 30 - Body Wishes
A recap of the Skinner trade, some line combos, and general look at the Sabres' summer thus far -- which has gone pretty well. Summer is nearly over, and hockey is almost back. We should be doing episodes more regularly again, and hope to keep them going throughout the season.
-
29
Episode 29 - If I Loved You
A pre-Skinner-trade-recorded ep, this episode contains the awarding of the second annual Slartibartfast Award, and has some general thoughts on the coming season (which will be amended in the next episode). A little late getting this one up, but hey it's summer! No one cares.
-
28
Episode 28 - I Want To Believe
It's been a long time since we've taken a trip to Sabreland, but it's time to go baaaaaack. Dahlin is coming, and Lawrence Pilut. So you know this year the Sabres will be good. Definitely. And thinking about hockey is definitely worth it. It's Sabreland, off-season 2!
-
27
Episode 27 - Stayin' Alive
Health update: Gordon is alive, and takes time to reflect on how to continue to be alive (and a Sabres fan). Maybe people from Buffalo are a little bleak and hopeless when things get tough? But tough things can't stop you from continuing on. Also Rasmus Dahlin is out there. Happy Thanksgiving too!
-
26
Episode 26 - Sturm Und Drang
Look upon my Sabres and Bills ye mighty, and despair! What a terrible week for Buffalo sports. This episode was recorded during the second half of the Bills game, and Gordon's not sure what to do now, but the pod will march on.
-
25
Episode 18 - Better Late than Never
Presented out of order due to prior technical difficulties, special guest Abam Berley returns for a broad discussion of life, death, sports, and self. Gordon tries to pick up the pieces after the debacle at MetLife Stadium on Thursday. Gordon recollects an airport encounter with a bygone Sabres superstar, and Adam hopes for the Seahawks to return to glory. Finally, a spirited talk of the importance of sports in one's life, and what implications can be gleaned from this.
-
24
Episode 25 - Out There
Fallout from Sharks-Sabres, thoughts on the nature of performative arts and the expectations placed upon the performers as well as some discussion of what it's like to be able to know what to expect from a thing. Also, Gordon finished book two of the Kingkiller Chronicles so ther's that to think about too. It's going to be a long hockey season.
-
23
Episode 24 - Antipin Antipathy
Why do we even care about the Sabres anymore? I don't know. But sports mean something, even when the team isn't good. The Brooklyn Nets appear to be fun and bad, but the Sabres are just bad. Also Gordon swear by accident but keeps it in. Sorry.
-
22
Episode 23
It's been a very Buffalo start to the Sabres's season, and that means the Sabreland podcast in the same curious state of having content but not being content with our team. This episode is NOT brought to you by Blue Apron (even though Gordon forgot its name). More talk of how rebuilding works, and how not-fun it was to go to the Sabres Islanders game last week.
-
21
Episode 22
Finally a Sabres game; the Habs are like the late-90s Sabres (but less plucky); the Bills and Sabres are both relevant for one glimmering week in October; how to view sports figures.
-
20
Episode 21
A memory of moving shadows, and a shadow over sports talk this week. This episode is not really about hockey - but it is about talking about hockey (and all sports). Next week's episode should be 98% Sabres and 2% jazz (like usual), but this week is not that.
-
19
Episode 20
Gordon is Talkin' Proud about Buffalo this week, even though the Bills are a disaster and the Sabres could be anything. He declares his intentions to get one Brooklyn Net on the show this year (though even the least Net would be a major coup). He has bought his tickets to the Sabres-Islanders game, but is unsure about the Winter Classic now.
-
18
Episode 19
Hockey is back at long last! Gordon has visions of the world's destruction reminiscent of T2, but tempers them with the sweet, sweet reminder that Leaf Pile Ale is back in stores. There's some discussion of the Bills, but mostly a strong argument for the Harbor Center as the best rink in Buffalo. Oh and in there is a lament for technology.
-
17
Episode 17
Middle School math taught Gordon lessons that still instruct him to this day. Sabres are returning to Buffalo, Bills are leaving, and Gordon invokes the gods of Fall Sports to lead us from the Summer.
-
16
Episode 16
There are as many ways to eat a mango as there are to run a professional sports team. Gordon considers the implications of tanking in personal life. Finally, he identifies a goal for the upcoming season: doing at least one episode featuring hockey-based D&D.
-
15
Episode 15
A recap of Sabres news, hopes and dreams for NHL 18, memories of NHL2k5, lots of Bills talk, and finally some enthusiasm for Single-A baseball in Coney Island
-
14
Episode 14
An update on the status of Sabreland, where summer doings are scant; some brief fan fiction about NHL GM Player Tinder; Gordon enthuses about film scores and his own forways into GrageBanding on his podcasts - in short, it's another summer episode.
-
13
Episode 13
A refusal to pander, a brief recap of what has happened in Sabre Land and in Sabreland, and a statement of checked excitement for the next season. Then there is a length discussion of the nature of investing (or divesting) oneself in any entity which one does not entirely control. Somehow this all adds up to being a Sabres fan.
-
12
Episode 12
Gordon bestows the First Annual Slartibartfast Award! Then comes an anecdote about the 11-Day Powerplay. Finally Gordon interviews his Dad, about the Sabres, voiceover professionals, and Steely Dan. Oh and at some point Gordon reads another poem from his youth.
-
11
Episode 11
This week, we got everything! Fathers, coaches, poems - you name it! Come for the hockey, stay for other stuff!
-
10
Episode 10
Special guest Eli Kowalski talks Boston, radio, Red Sox, and more. Gordon keeps himself from too much trolling. Unforeseen meteorological events befall the boys. The Bills are still irrelevant.
-
9
Episode 9
It's a super-special TONYS episode. If you've been wanting more talk about John Steinbeck, correlative objectives, Richard Farnsworth, and Dave Malloy out of this podcast -- then you are in luck! This episode has it all (except much substantive hockey talk... seriously who cares about the Cup Final this year, anyway?)
-
8
Episode 8
There's been naught but tumbleweed in Sabreland for yet another week, but that didn't stop this episode from rolling out. After a brief consideration of the league's current state, Gordon discusses roles in hockey, and, indeed, life. Last and least there's some talk of trades.
-
7
Episode 7
A reflective seventh episode, in which Gordon attempts to track the changing rules in the NHL since the 2005 lockout, and meditates on what this may mean. There is also a discussion on how teams might be best built, and, finally, an invocation to the gods of podcasting.
-
6
Episode 6
It's a Memorial Day Spectacular! Gordon makes a correction from the previous episode, then talks about Craig Anderson. Special guest Adam Berley and Gordon talk about a variety of sports topics, including better locations for baseball games, a possible sequel for Angels in the Outfield, and whether Tom Brady is real.
-
5
Episode 5
Gordon forgets how he wanted to open the episode, then remembers. A remembrance of MarioKart cups past ensues, followed by a proposition of universal NHL 99 Theory. Gordon hopes the Sabres develop the Amerks next year. Ethel Merman is compared to LeBron James.
-
4
Episode 4
Gordon appreciates the lack of Sabres news in an otherwise busy week for him. An examination of greatness in and among the major sports. A modest proposal for some ways of perking up the playoffs.
-
3
Episode 3
In the third episode of season 0, the Sabres hire a GM, are going to play in Queens. Meanwhile Gordon got a couple followers on Twitter, then airs some existential grievances.
-
2
Episode 2
In episode 2 of season 0, Gordon shares his Broadway dreams, opines on the Sabres' GM search, rhapsodizes about NHL 17, and wishes the Coyotes better luck.
