UN Secretary-General Guterres called for immediate action to reduce greenhouse gases and not allow data centers unless self powered by renewable energy. An excerpted interview with Samantha Burgess of the EU's Copernicus Climate Change Service. She describes what is causing the current heat wave, whether these events will continue to get worse, and why Europe is heating up twice as fast as most of the world. From CUBA- Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez announced a request for a UN session next Tuesday to address the US economic and now energy blockade, and its multi-dimensional aggression against Cuba. In Peru Keiko Fujimori, daughter of the former disgraced dictator of the country, appears to have won the Presidential election, with overseas voters giving her the victory. Israel has continued to attack Lebanon raising fears that Tel Aviv wants to wreck the peace deal with Iran. Israeli attacks continued in Gaza while the so-called Board of Peace is planning a sweeping grant of immunity for itself, and the ability to obtain public property free of charge. Press reviews on the UN report on Israeli genocide of Palestinian children- the press stated the case of 21,000 dead children, but also emphasized that anyone under 18 is considered a child and many of those fighting the Israeli troops were young. There were two devastating earthquakes in Venezuela and it is feared that thousands are dead. From CUBA- Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez criticized and corrected recent pronouncements by US Secretary of State Marco Rubio about Cuban incompetence and changes in government structure. A Cuban Deputy Foreign Minister Josefina Vidal Ferreiro spoke with a Mexican newspaper about the discussions that have been taking place between Cuba and the US, which she reports have not reached any significant progress- she says the US wants to dictate changes and keeps adding aggressive sanctions. The Bolivian right-wing President Paz has declared a state of emergency, using the military to end weeks of indigenous and union led protests calling for an end to austerity measures. More details about the 88 page United Nations report stating that Israel was committing genocide war crimes against Palestinians in the Gaza Strip and West Bank. Lebanon reports that Israel has killed nearly 4000 citizens. A new opinion poll found that worldwide 76% of people surveyed have no confidence in president Trump. Zelensky announced more drone attacks on petroleum facilities in Russia far from the border. It is often said that age brings wisdom but clearly that is not always accurate- and most corporations are not led by people over 70. It has been noted that after a certain age politicians stop talking about the future. From FRANCE- At the G7 summit in France the leaders did not issue a joint comprehensive statement but did reaffirm some comments on Iran, Taiwan, and Ukraine. A professor from Kelo University commented on the G7 statement. Indian Prime Minister Modi agreed to strengthen ties with French President Macron and double bilateral trade. Modi also spoke with Trump about the three Indian crewmen murdered when the US military attacked a commercial NHK ship in the Strait of Hormuz. From JAPAN- An international press review on the agreement between the US and Iran. Ukraine launched the largest drone attack yet on Moscow, hitting stores, apartments, and another oil refinery creating severe pollution in the city- the NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte praised Ukraine for killing over 30,000 Russians per month. From CUBA- A Cuban delegation to the UN spoke out about eradicating global colonialism. The Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel expressed gratitude to Colombia for a shipment of 100 tons of humanitarian aid. The US military did a strike inside Venezuela to kill an alleged gang leader while continuing to attack boats alleged to be transporting drugs in the Caribbean Sea and Pacific Ocean. Then three press reviews. First press on the 100 days of the US Israeli war on Iran. Press analysis on the Chinese Presidents visit to North Korea and an attempt to balance Russian influence. Press on the race riots in Belfast following the knife murder of a white irishman by a Sudanese immigrant- many black homes have been torched- Elon Musks anti-immigration agenda is discussed along with rapid rise in the hands of a few multi-billionaires. From JAPAN- The Japanese nuclear regulator released radiation levels across the Fukushima prefecture after 15 years- 30% of the area is still considered unsafe, though this will drop to 20% 15 years from now. The Japanese Defense Ministry is transported a missile launcher to their eastern most island in the Pacific, 2000 km SE from the main island. The Stockholm International Peace Research Institute released their annual report on Monday, pointing out the nuclear armed countries have 12,000 nuclear weapons and a number of countries are expanding their stockpiles. Russian officials have criticized Britain, France, and Germany for their military support of Ukraine. 3 Indian crew members on a tanker in Hormuz were killed when the US military- the Indian Foreign Ministry condemned the attack. Pete Hegseth gave a speech at Guantanamo Prison, continuing the threats to Cuba. From CUBA- A ship arrived in Cuba with 1700 tons of food and other supplies from Mexico and Belize. Cuba mentioned the US propaganda radio station, Radio Marti, aimed at the Cuban island for 41 years. A Congressional research report said that the US military has lost 42 aircraft, worth $2.6 billion, during the first 40 days of the war on Iran. US activist Medea Benjamin claims that the US government is losing its mind with its war on Cuba. The EU has decided the ship failed asylum seekers to detention centers outside of Europe, Rwanda, Uganda, Afghanistan, and Uzbekistan have been proposed for the buildings. Canada will hold a referendum to decide if they should have a referendum on the possible secession of the province of Alberta. The Times had an article saying that Artificial Intelligence was being used in China to predict who might become a dissident in the future. Thousands of Albanians have been in the streets protesting a vast luxury real estate project backed by Jared Kushner that will destroy protected environments. From GERMANY- An excerpted interview with Sina Azodi, professor at the Eliot School of International affairs at George Washington University. The topic is the collapse of talks between the US and Iran. He says that Trump is under serious pressure from the right-wing of the Republican party, and that the Israeli war on Lebanon has complicated any serious ceasefire. He says that Israel wants to reshape the region into a greater Israel, and completely destroy Hezbollah. They discuss the hidden missiles in Iran and how inaccurate Trump and the Pentagon were when describing the strength of the Iranian military. Colombians voted in the first round of a crucial presidential election. This interview with Renata Segura of the International Crisis Group covers the three candidates who ran in the primary election- on June 21st there will be a runoff between left-wing Senator Ivan Cepeda and right-wing lawyer Alberdo de la Espriella. From CUBA- The US blockade of fuel to Cuba is creating food shortages and humanitarian aid- the UN presented a fuel traceability plan to the US which has not responded. Mexican President Sheinbaum has reaffirmed that Mexico continues to support Cuba with aid. The Israeli military continues attacking Lebanon despite truce agreements. Trump made a threatening phone call to Netanyahu that was reported widely in the international press. Israel continues to bomb Gaza. The Guatemalan president denied reports that he had agreed to allow the Trump administration to carry out military strikes in his country. Another Japanese vessel carrying liquified natural gas passed through the Strait of Hormuz. Russia warned Ukraine that it would increase attacks on Kiev in retaliation for a drone raid that killed 21 in a student dormitory in a Russian controlled region. Pope Leo 14th issued an encyclical about the military use of Artificial Intelligence. The wars on Iran and the Middle East are damaging the environment at a time when climate change is negatively impacting weather. UNEP is the United Nations Environment Programme, which attempts to help member states with climate change, biodiversity loss, and pollution. These are excerpts from an interview with Inger Andersen, the Executive Director of UNEP. From FRANCE- Europe is experiencing extreme heat, setting new high records for May in France, Ireland, the UK and Portugal. Israel is expanding operations with continued bombing in southern Lebanon. From GERMANY- The video that the Israeli National Security Minister, Ben Gvir, posted showing the abuse of those arrested from the aid flotilla headed to Gaza continues to be in the news. Italy called for Gvir to be sanctioned, and several European countries barred him from entry. Sven Kuhn von Burgsdorff is the former EU envoy to Palestine. In this excerpted interview he says the actions shown in the video are typical of how Israeli troops have been treating Palestinians for years. Netanyahu criticized Gvir but Sven says that is all a charade, the two are on the same page. He also points out that Netanyahu is worried that Trump might want to stop the military attacks in Iran which could cause a problem for Bibi in the upcoming election. Sven suggests father reaching sanctions, prosecuting war criminals, and the EU banning arms exports to Israel. From CUBA- To counteract the US blockade of Cuba, China announced a new aid package including 60,000 tons of rice and large economic support, while urging the US to immediately cease the blockade. Mexican President Sheinbaum publicly questioned the intention of filing charges against former Cuban President Raul Castro. The Chinese and Russian Presidents met in Beijing, saying their relationship has reached unprecedented heights. There was a BRICS meeting in India where Iran accused the UAE of being directly involved in the US/Israeli war on Iran. Iran listed its proposal to the US. Israel detained 432 activists on a flotilla bringing aid to Gaza- the Israeli security minister had himself videoed humiliating those detained- international opinion was very critical. US news site Axios accused Cuba of planning to attack US targets with Iranian and Russian drones. From FRANCE- A press review on the international outrage after the Israeli minister taunted kidnapped detained flotilla activists. From CUBA- Cuba thoroughly denies as propaganda the Axios report of plans to attack the US with drones. Then recent death tolls from Lebanon, Gaza, and the West Bank. From GERMANY- British journalist and author Carole Cadwalladr discusses the relationship between Trump and what she named the Broligarchy, tech executives who travelled to China with him. Carole believes the surveillance state is a danger to freedom, and it is owned by the people who put anti-democratic populists in office. She talks about why the EU is trying hard to curb the power, which she says is beyond what the Stasi took in East Germany. Both Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates carried out retaliatory attacks on Iran. Neither Gulf State was in favor of the US and Israeli war on Iran, and were bombed because of US military bases on their land. The UAE struck an Iranian refinery and has in the past bombed Libya and Yemen. The expert says that Saudi Arabia wants to reestablish peaceful relations with Iran, and that the UAE in more aligned with the hawkish policies of Israel. The Gulf States do not trust the actions or leadership of the Trump administration. From JAPAN- The Iranian Foreign Minister is trying to drum up international support at a BRICS summit in New Delhi. Japan had a second oil tanker pass through the Strait of Hormuz. The Japanese government is subsidizing fuel prices to prevent the citizens and truckers from economic hardship. Japanese satellite imagery indicates a large oil spill off the coast of Kharg Island, creating a significant ecological disaster. A CNN analysis shows a serious uptick in US military surveillance along the coast of Cuba. From CUBA- Mexican President Sheinbaum announced the departure of another ship carrying aid to Cuba and vowed ongoing support. Hondurasgate is a series of leaked audio files allegedly exposing US and Israeli interference in a plot with Honduras to destabilize left-leaning Mexico, Brazil, and Colombia. Brazilian Gaza activist Thiago Avila returned home from an Israeli prison. The Israeli military issued new evacuation orders for residents of Southern Lebanon. The Guardian had a long article about a British advertising company has been greenwashing the US oil industry with a billion dollar budget. 50,000 people in Tokyo protested the shift in the Japanese constitution which has a pacifist clause. From JAPAN- The leaders of Japan and Australia held a summit covering economic and military security. The UN Security Council is having a meeting about North Korea alongside a conference on the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons- a new draft of the treaty calls for safeguards against autonomous use of nuclear weapons. North Koreas constitution no longer refers to reunification with the south. Japans Industry Minister says Saudi Arabia and the UAE have agreed to cooperate with Japan to ensue stable oil supplies. From GERMANY- In Southern Lebanon Israel is attacking ambulances hospitals, and medics, using 2 to 4 consecutive strikes, often called "double tap." According to the WHO so far 100 medics have been killed and 200 injured- more than 2400 Lebanese have been killed in the war. From CUBA- The Cuban Foreign Minister, Bruno Rodriguez, denounced the US intention to take military action against his country. A humanitarian flotilla is leaving Spain to bring solar panels for medical facilities in Cuba. Two of the leaders from the Gaza bound flotilla remain in Israeli prison- they were seized by Israel in international waters 600 miles from Israel last week. The US military bombed another boat in the Caribbean allegedly transporting drugs, bringing the death toll to 188. This week's show features stories from France 24, NHK Japan, and Radio Havana Cuba. http://youthspeaksout.net/swr260501.mp3 (29:00) From FRANCE- This week there was much news and concern about press freedom- on Press Freedom Day, both Reporters Without Borders and the Civil Liberties Union for Europe released annual surveys of the state of the press. First a review of the annual index of press freedom by country- overall the scores were the lowest since the index began in 2002. Then a press review on a report published by a far-right group in France on public media, suggesting that France 24 and other government funded sources are not neutral and should be removed from taxpayer support. Not unlike public radio and TV in the US- only France did not cancel support at this time. Then a report by the Civil Liberties Union says press freedom in Europe is under threat, journalists are receiving threats, and there are concentrations of media ownership. Not unlike in the US. Then an interview with Jonathan Day, from the Civil Liberties Union of Europe. They discuss the media being a tool shaped by politicians and the rich and powerful. Across Europe there are issues with the independence of media. In the US the press pool for the President is selected by the presidential team and anyone questioning him is subjected to humiliating criticism. Jonathan says that when media freedom goes the rest of democracy is not far behind. From JAPAN- The Japanese PM Takaichi spoke on the phone to the president of Iran about their ship passing through the Strait of Hormuz and her concern for other Japanese citizens on ships stranded in the Gulf. Trump claimed that Iran said they were in a state of collapse but Iran denied this. The head of UNICEF appealed for an immediate and permanent ceasefire in the wars on Iran and Lebanon because of the number of children killed in the fighting. At the UN delegates are gathered to review the crucial Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons while several countries are discussing expanding their arsenals. From CUBA- The US Justice Department has finally agreed to allow the defense lawyers for Venezuelan President Maduro and Celia Flores to be paid by the Venezuelan government. There is an upcoming ballot initiative in California imposing a one-time tax on billionaires assets. The Iranian RedCrescent submitted evidence to the International Criminal Court documenting US and Israeli war crimes. From GERMANY- Excerpts from an interview with Steven Everts, Director of the EU Institute for Security Studies. The topic is the world’s increasing uncertainty about the US, in terms of military and foreign policy. Can the EU depend on armed support from a country that is starting wars nearby and then demanding assistance in the Strait of Hormuz? Will the EU seek support from the Gulf States, Asia, and other international partners? Will the EU create a unified military force? This interview begins with a statement made by Mark Carney PM of Canada last Sunday From JAPAN- Japan has eased restrictions on overseas transfers of lethal weapons, which was formerly banned in their Peace constitution. US veterans and military families took part in a protest at the US Capitol against the war on Iran- 60 were swiftly arrested. From CUBA- The leaders of Mexico, Brazil, and Spain met in Barcelona and expressed great concern about the US inflicted humanitarian crisis in Cuba- they pledged more aid to the island. Amnesty International released its global Human Rights Report, describing the leaders of Israel and the US as voracious predators intent upon economic and political domination. The Geneva Based Euro Med Human Rights Monitor warned that the new divided Rafa plan designed by Jared Kurshner is a plan for ethnic cleansing. He recently published an article called “the United States has become a rogue state.” He says the war on Iran show the limits of American power, and it raises doubts about the current American foreign policy leadership. He defines a rogue state as one that is a threat to international peace. The US is viewed by its allies as impulsive and predatory, who now see China as a more responsible player in world affairs. From FRANCE- In London thousands of people protested the arrests of 1500 on charges of terrorism for carrying signs supporting the group Palestine Action- another 523 were charged with terrorism for their signs. In France a draft bill, called the Yandy ban, that would make any statement opposing the state of Israel a crime of antisemitism is being heard in Parliament. More than 2100 Lebanese, including 168 children, have been killed by Israeli forces in the past 6 weeks. Ukraine is using robot attack vehicles in the war with Russia. From JAPAN- NGOs and a group of atomic bomb survivors are asking the Japanese government to lead the charge on the upcoming nuclear non-proliferation treaty in New York this month. This week marked three years of deadly war between the military and paramilitary in Sudan- over 59,000 have died. From CUBA- There were numerous large demonstrations of solidarity for Cuba in major cities in Europe last Saturday. Israeli PM Netanyahu revealed last week that JD Vance reports to him daily. In the West Bank, Israeli forces fired tear gas at Palestinian students having a school session outdoors. In NYC 100 anti-war protestors led by Jewish Voice For Peace were arrested outside Chuck Shumers office. Trumps threat to destroy the Iranian civilization received negative comments around the world- many questioned his mental stability. Trump said he does not worry that bombing civilian infrastructure is a ground for war crime charges. The massive Israeli 10 minute bombing of Lebanon on Wednesday took over the world press. Then I really wanted to air a story that had a sense of optimism- France 24 has a weekly show called People and Profit. Kate Moody hosted an episode called Iran War: Catalyst For Renewable Energy Push. She interviewed Harjeet Singh, Strategic Adviser for the Fossil Fuel Treaty Initiative. In the excerpts I will play he talks about some countries reverting to burning coal because of the oil shortage, how India is now getting 51% of its energy from renewable sources, and an effort to tax the oil companies for their windfall profits. From CUBA- Iran reported 30 universities had been attacked from the US and Israel. An independent source said that death toll in Iran was more than 3500. World Health Day was Tuesday, celebrating the establishment of the WHO in Geneva- the WHO suspended operations in Gaza after one of their workers died in a targeted attack, 1700 health workers have been killed in Gaza. The UN says 1.1 million people are displaced in Lebanon, where 1400 had been killed before the latest massacre on Wednesday. The Cuban Foreign Minister warned that the US intends to destroy Latin American and Caribbean unity. From JAPAN- The PM Takaichi of Japan spoke with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian by phone on Tuesday. Trumps public genocide statements have not gone well globally, but many Iranians expressed fearlessness. 100 law experts based in the US denounced the military operation, suggesting there are grounds for war crime charges. The Pakistani PM Sharif who mediated the ceasefire says the agreement includes Lebanon. Ukraine forces continue to blow up Russian oil refineries in the Baltic Sea and more than 1400 km beyond the border. This weeks show was an interview with renowned Israeli journalist Gideon Levy- he talks about media censorship in Israel and other countries especially about war and self-censorship. From GERMANY- DWs Sarah Kelly talks with Misha Komadovsky about Trumps claim that the new president of Iran asked him for a ceasefire. She also speaks with Fawas Gerges about Trumps claims and the new situation where Iran controls shipping in the strait of Hormuz. From JAPAN- Japan and the EU have agreed to strengthen cooperation in security and defense industries. The Japanese Defense Ministry is deploying extended range missiles to its camps, a major shift in security policy. From CUBA- On Tuesday a Russian oil tanker began unloading 100,000 tons of crude oil despite the threats from the US. Mexican President Sheinbaum said her country is working to resume oil shipments to Cuba- she also disclosed that she personally donated $1000 in a campaign to purchase resources for the Cuban people. An Israeli airstrike targeted a clearly marked press car in Lebanon, killing all 3 journalists on board. An estimated 8 million people participated in last Saturdays No Kings Day protests, the largest single day protest in US history. Iran and the US rejected each others ceasefire proposals. There is little evidence that the war is winding down soon. He discusses why the original agreement failed, and if there is an offramp from the war being prepared. From JAPAN- Australia and the EU have concluded talks on a free trade agreement, which will remove almost all tariffs between them. Ukraine announced attacks on key Russian oil facilities, including one 1400 KM from the border- Russia retaliated by attacking the Ukrainian defense industry. The Foreign Ministers of China and Iran spoke by phone on Tuesday, with China recommending negotiations. From FRANCE- It appears that some investors used insider trading information to buy a half a billion dollars of oil stock short on Monday just 15 minutes before Trump posted that the war was winding down, causing the price to drop 14%. The cost of oil has led many countries to further invest in renewables- but the US returned nearly a billion dollars to French company TotalEnergies to drop its plans to build windfarms off the US Eastern Coast. From CUBA- Cuba has been on the air this week. Mexican President Sheinbaum gave her support to the flotillas bringing aid to Cuba, including using a ship to protect them at sea, and says she is working to find a way to get fuel to the country. Codepink with 140 people was successful in bringing aid to Havana, and on Tuesday a Mexican tuna boat delivered 30 tons of humanitarian aid. The US has been working to impede the renowned international Cuban Medical Brigades from doing their lifesaving work in Latin America.
