The civil rights leaders of the past have shown us the power of collective action. Friends Rally around Richard Bass, Founder Emeritus of P.A.L.S, as he receives hospice care

Friends Rally around Richard Bass, Founder Emeritus of P.A.L.S, as he receives hospice care Click here to watch the video. From Nicholas Snow… Yesterday, August 2nd, 2025, I received an email from the P.A.L.S. Board of Directors with the news that the organization’s founder, Richard Bass, whom I’m honored to know, is receiving hospice care. The email is encouraging Richard’s friends and admirers to “gather around Richard with love and light as he opens up and shares what it’s really like to encounter one’s end of life.” PALS is “Planning Ahead for LGBTQ+ Seniors” As we learn at www.PalsInTheDesert.com, “PALS Mission is to create a community of seniors who look out for each other by informing and educating LGBTQ+ people and allies on all aspects of planning ahead before health or life-altering situations arise. PALS accomplishes its mission by offering informational and educational programs year-round that include no cost seminars, workshops, resource materials and special events both in-person and online.” On May 2nd, 2024, I livestreamed Richard’s retirement party from the patio at EIGHT4NINE Restaurant & Lounge, and now, as we are called to rally around him, I thought, let’s celebrate Richard while he’s living. Let ME share a rebroadcast of that beutiful event, starring Richard himself. And let me expand the space in which “we gather around Richard with love and light.” Here’s the full text of the email from PALS… August 2, 2025 Dear PALS members, friends and allies, We just learned a few days ago that our community’s dear friend and PALS founder, Richard Bass, was recently diagnosed with Stage 4 Bladder Cancer. He’s now on hospice at home in Stonewall Gardens, where he’s receiving the utmost care, kindness and consideration. It’s hard to put into words all the ways in which Richard continues to touch our lives since he was at the helm of Planning Ahead for LGBTQ Seniors from 2013-24. Indeed, we’d just celebrated his retirement with a fabulous send off party, topped off by the City of Palm Springs recognizing his decades of empowering LGBTQ+ older adults to take action by proclaiming May 2, 2024 as Richard Bass Day! Yet here we are 15 months later where everything he’s given to us and what PALS stands for —creating a community that looks out for each other by informing and educating LGBTQ+ seniors and allies on all aspects of planning ahead —has come full circle. It’s time to gather around Richard with love and light as he opens up and shares what it’s really like to encounter one’s end of life. Thankfully, we can each be with him during what he’s calling “my last great adventure” by accessing this Caring Bridge page where he will post updates, receive messages and engage in essential conversations that we hope will help sustain him (and us) when just being there is needed the most. Please join us in being a pal for Richard during this very special time. Sincerely, Lorraine, Dan, Christopher, Rick, Jim, Mike, Juan, Kasey, Jamie, Kelly and Atma PALS Board of Directors (2024-25) Here is the link to Richard’s Caring Bridge Page: https://www.caringbridge.org/site/d19a1cd4-659e-11f0-985d-f5a572569ff1?utm_source=website_share&utm_medium=share_button&utm_term=&utm_content=link_share_button&utm_campaign=private_home_page  Here is a message from Richard on the PALS website in his role as Founder Emeritus: https://palsinthedesert.com/what-is-pals#founders  ABOUT PROMOHOMO.TV® WANT YOUR NAME IN THE CLOSING CREDITS OF MOST NEW EPISODES? Palm Springs (California) City Council Approves Landmark Pride Flagpole for Arenas DIstrict

In June, 2025, the Palm Springs City Council approved a license agreement with Palm Springs Pride for the construction, installation, maintenance, and operation of a landmark flagpole in the Arenas District. This significant decision paves the way for a powerful symbol of hope, freedom, and equality in the heart of Palm Springs. Palm Springs Pride seeks to raised $50,000. Pledge your support today and stand tall with Pride at https://bit.ly/arenasflag.  The Arenas District Flagpole Project will feature a prominent installation of the Gilbert Baker-designed Pride flag, considered the most significant piece of LGBTQ+ art created by Baker (June 2, 1951 – March 31, 2017). This landmark art installation commemorates the Black, white, Latino, Asian, and Native-born activists who have tirelessly fought for LGBTQ+ equality since the flag was first flown in San Francisco in 1978. It is planned to be located at Arenas Road and Indian Canyon Drive, a key gateway to the Arenas Business District. This vital project is spearheaded by the Arenas District Merchants and will be managed by the 40-year-old, 501(c)(3) nonprofit Palm Springs Pride organization. Gilbert Baker’s iconic rainbow flag emerged from a request by the late gay supervisor Harvey Milk, who urged Baker, a gay artist, to design a symbol for the 1978 San Francisco Pride parade. With the assistance of friends Lynn Segerblom and James McNamara, Baker initially created an eight-striped rainbow flag. He later refined the design to six colored stripes, transforming it into an international symbol of LGBTQ+ rights. Much like the civil rights movement it represents, the flag’s journey is ongoing. Initially, the Rainbow Flag symbolized liberation, breaking free from fear and conformity, and the right to express one’s sexuality without shame or retaliation. In Palm Springs, this flag will soon stand as a powerful testament to freedom and equality for all. Palm Springs prides itself on being one of the most welcoming and inclusive communities in the nation, and this landmark art installation will further reinforce that spirit. The concept of a landmark flagpole in the Arenas District has been a topic of discussion among members of the Arenas Business District, the first certified business district under the City’s Commercial District Program, as a way to attract visitors from downtown and the Convention Center. In July 2024, the City Council requested information from staff regarding the City’s ability to install a flagpole, culminating in tonight’s approval. The flagpole will proudly display the Gilbert Baker-designed Pride flag. Approved alternative flags include the Transgender flag designed by Monica F. Helms, the Leather Pride flag designed by Anthony (Tony) F. DeBlase, the Bisexual Pride flag designed by Michael Page, and the State of California flag. Additionally, the U.S. flag will be displayed on Memorial Day, Flag Day, Independence Day, and Veterans Day. Flags can be lowered to half-staff by presidential, gubernatorial, or local proclamation. “In Palm Springs’ 87-year history, no other cultural or civic group has stepped forward to propose funding a landmark flagpole to honor their community. Yet today, the LGBTQ+ community is doing just that, championing a powerful symbol of pride and inclusivity for all to see,” said Ron deHarte, the President and CEO of Palm Springs Pride. As Mayor of Palm Springs, Ron was recused from participating in this project. “You can support the Landmark Pride Flag. We’re actively raising funds for the Arenas District Pride Flagpole, an incredible piece of art that will symbolize hope and commemorate the tireless fight for equality among activists of all backgrounds,” said Mitch Battersby, the Palm Springs Pride Director of Volunteers and a project lead. An update about the alleged serial rapist who targeted gay men in Palm Springs, CA on hookup apps

The court proceedings against accused serial rapist Hakan Isik are advancing, and Raymond Lafleur, moderator of the Gay Men of Palm Springs California Facebook Group, instrumental in connecting the dots of the case, returns to The Snowstorm to update us. The court proceedings against accused serial rapist Hakan Isik are advancing, and Raymond Lafleur, moderator of the Gay Men of Palm Springs California Facebook Group, instrumental in connecting the dots of the case, returns to The Snowstorm to update us. Plus, Lafleur and Producer/Host Nicholas Snow will discuss the series of cryptic emails Snow received as the result of the first episode PromoHomo.TV® broadcast about the subject matter. BACKGROUND REPORTING As Jake Ingrassia reported for KESQ June 2, 2023, “Hakan Isik of Desert Hot Springs was charged with violently attacking five individuals over the past year, and additional victims have now come forward to share their harrowing experiences.” June 15, 2023, Ingrassia reported, also for KESQ, “Isik is accused of being a serial rapist involved in multiple violent and sexual assaults. He faces 9 felony and misdemeanor charges spanning 5 victims, including the sexual assault of a Palm Springs man who said he met Isik on a dating app. If convicted, Isik faces life in prison.” The alleged rapist was held on a $1 million bail on this date. The local GAY MEN IN PALM SPRINGS CA Facebook group was instrumental in connecting the dots, and even victims in this case, and that group’s creator and moderator, Raymond Lafleur, appears in The Snowstorm to update viewers on latest developments. The group as over 13,000 members. Explains LaFleur, I started an online community for gay men in Palm Springs at the beginning of COVID. It evolved into a valuable resource for people to maintain social contacts, to promote factual information about the epidemic as well as local restrictions and guidance. It’s also a resource for gay owned small businesses and entrepreneurs to promote themselves, make the community aware of local events, and to recommend local services. The group is also involved in local issues which affects the community of gay men such as assisting law enforcement in the arrest of a serial sexual assaulter in the Palm Springs area and working with the many victims involved to the issues surrounding the proposed Palm Springs AIDS Memorial.”   TOP FOUR WAYS TO SUPPORT PROMOHOMO.TV® Please share the broadcasts across your social media and to appropriate online groups. The Great Political Divide: Can we come back from Trump's destruction of civility?

A recent meme posted to Nicholas Snow’s public Facebook page featuring a photo of E. Jean Carroll with the text, “I just grabbed him by the wallet!”, has garnered at the time of this announcement 861 likes, laughs and hearts, approaching 400 comments and over 200 shares. Within the comments thread the discourse is far from civil, with the polarization of American politics on full display. Protecting LGBTQ+ Youth: How one Riverside County, California Coalition is stepping up

Nicholas Snow (he/his) is honored to welcome Lex Ortega (they/them), Director, Community Programs, The LGBTQ Community Center of the Desert, to this episode of The Snowstorm to discuss important policy work of The Center and its community partners and allies. They will also be previewing a vital upcoming event, the news of which was announced this week. (Be sure to visit www.TheCenterCV.org for more info about their important work). Thursday, February 8, 2024, the Riverside County LGBTQ+ Student Safety Coalition will host a virtual candidate forum for the Riverside CountyBoard of Education. All candidates currently running for a trustee seat in the Riverside County Board of Education have been invited to participate in this forum. The following candidates have confirmed their participation: Bruce Dennis, Maliha Williamson, and Jennifer Mejares Pham. 2024 marks an important election year. To ensure you have the information you need to cast an informed vote, the LGBTQ Community Center of the Desert (The Center) together with Coalition partners Transgender Resource Advocacy Network Service (T.R.A.N.S.), Alianza, Rainbow Pride Youth Alliance, IE Prism Collective, Our Schools East Valley, Equality California, SBX Youth & Family Services, Riverside Pride, Planned Parenthood of the Pacific Southwest, IE United and Expanding Identities Development – invites all Riverside County residents who are interested in learning more about the candidates’ positions to this virtual forum. The coalition – which seeks to protect LGBTQ+ students across Riverside County and believes schools should be safe spaces for learning regardless of students’ sexual orientation, gender identity, or gender expression – will be asking each candidate questions related to their priorities on student safety and their commitment to protecting LGBTQ+ students. In 2023, over 500 anti-trans bills were introduced and considered across the United States. This unprecedented, rapid increase in attacks on LGBTQ+ rights across the nation, and in our backyards, has had devastating consequences for trans people, and trans youth in particular. A national survey on LGBTQ youth mental health found that nearly 1 in 5 transgender and nonbinary youth attempted suicide and 45% of LGBTQ youth seriously considered attempting suicide in the past year. The survey also found that fewer than 1 in 3 transgender and nonbinary youth found their home to be gender-affirming. Given these alarming statistics, and an increase of anti-LGBTQ+ legislation around the country and even in Riverside County school districts – in October 2023, the Riverside County LGBTQ+ Student Safety Coalition sent a letter to the RiversideCounty Board of Education showing its commitment to LGBTQ+ students. The coalition strongly opposes the discrimination and misinformation used to propose, implement, and enforce harmful and dangerous anti-LGBTQ+ policies in schools, such as those recently enacted by the Murrieta Valley Unified School District and Temecula Valley Unified School District, which require forced outing of students who may not be in safe environments, and reject LGBTQ+ inclusive education and information. The forum will be moderated by Lex Ortega (they/them) from The Center and Erika Ruiz (they/them) from The IE Prism Collective, two community activists with a deep understanding of LGBTQ+ issues. Attendees will have the opportunity to submit questions to the candidates through the webinar registration link. Watch now to learn why this is the final live episode of PromoHomo.TV® you may ever see broadcast into Facebook. Yes, you read that right. This is the last live episode of PromoHomo.TV ®programming that will be broadcast into to Facebook. Like many of you, Producer/Host Nicholas Snow is fed up with the changes made by Meta to Facebook and the huge obstacles that exist within their environment for content creators. The platform simply wants our money, and they discount that we, all of us posting to Facebook, are the reason everyone goes there. Snow has discovered that when he broadcasts episodes into his Facebook page, with over 8,500 likes and follows, the social media platform does NOT, for the most part, let ANYONE know the broadcast is happening. Then, when Snow shares the broadcast into up to 40 or 50 Facebook groups, even those group members do not see the post (and those who may be tired of seeing them). So, in this “goodbye” episode, Snow let’s you know why and how he’s leaving, the extent to which he will still be engaged with Facebook, and he will let viewers know how to stay connected. Quite simply, Snow is now producing his broadcasts for those people who really want them, support them, and seek them out. Palm Springs Pride Honors Awards... A PromoHomo.TV® Exclusive

Never before broadcast, here is the PromoHomo.TV® exclusive presentaton of the Greater Palm Springs Pride Honors Awards, a beacon of recognition for outstanding contributions to the LGBTQ+ community and its allies. Award recipients were celebrated at a ceremony on Monday, October 16, 2023, at the Hilton Palm Springs. The awards announcement marked the approach of Pride Week in the region under the theme of “Drag Now. Drag Forever!” Each year, the awards recognize the tireless efforts individuals and an organization who have advanced the cause of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer individuals, shaping a more inclusive world for all. “This is not a group that seeks attention or applause. They quietly serve, and we are grateful for the profound impact they have had and continue to have in our community,” said Ron deHarte, President and CEO of Greater Palm Springs Pride. “The awards ceremony promises to be a night of inspiration and celebration, bringing together LGBTQ+ activists, allies, and supporters from all walks of life. Recipients embody the spirit of Pride, and their work has created positive change. We are proud to honor these champions of diversity, unity, and love,” added deHarte. Spirit of Stonewall Lifetime Achievement Award – Donald Beck At a time when healthcare and social service providers were slow in responding to the HIV epidemic, Donald was one of eight staunch supporters who took the bold first steps to establish an AIDS support and educational organization that would become known as the Desert AIDS Project. The vision Donald and the other founders had to create a place where people could find emotional support in a society that was essentially fearful of AIDS and scornful of those who had it continues today as DAP Health. Spirit of Stonewall Organization of the Year – Brothers of the Desert Established in 2017 by a group of Black gay men in response to shared feelings of isolation and disconnection, the Brothers of the Desert has thrived in their mission to nurture and support Black gay men and allies through education, advocacy, social networking, volunteerism, philanthropy, and mentorship. Community engagement includes an annual Wellness Summit, Brothers Got Talent, a quarterly social event; publishing Drumbeat, a monthly newsletter; and hosting a speaker series. They also host events for Martin Luther King Day, Black History Month, and Juneteenth. They have also dedicated more than $10,000 to support four scholarship programs for Black and LGBTQ+ student success and created a member support fund, and a discussion group series for Black gay men over 50. The 75-member organization includes Black men who identify as gay, queer, bisexual, or same-gender loving and allies of any race, gender, or sexual orientation who support or contribute to the well-being of Black gay men. Spirit of Stonewall Community Service Award – Miss Patsi Since the early 1980s, Miss Patsi, an illusion of Patsy Cline, was created by Thommy Kocan to raise funds for charity. Patsi has won multiple royalty titles within Gay Rodeo Circuits, and funds she raised supported rodeo events for the LGBTQ+ Communities. Having retired, Patsi now invites hundreds of guests for dinner at various restaurants for Dinner with Patsi. By collecting “spare change” from attendees, Miss Patsi has raised $100,000 for local charities. This year, the official Cathedral City choir asked Miss Patsi to help lead the effort to raise funds needed to send the high school choir to Ireland. Patsi rallied the community and raised the $80,000 the choir needed. Spirit of Stonewall Volunteer of the Year – Beverly Sweigart As a teenager, lacking strong family relationships and raising herself, she learned even small acts of kindness could change a person’s life. Her passion has always been volunteering to help those in need. Beverly’s first charity fundraiser was in 1984 for the family of a gay friend who passed away from AIDS. She’s organized and hosted a variety of events, to raise funds for animal shelters, the homeless, senior centers, youth organizations, community theater, and muscular dystrophy, HIV/AIDS, and cancer-related organizations. Even after Beverly was diagnosed with a life-threatening disease, she never wavered from her quest to help others. For the last seven years she has supported local charities through her organization Palm Springs Crave. Beneficiaries include L-Fund, Well in The Desert, Palm Springs Sanctuary, Palm Springs Women’s Jazz Festival, HRC, DAP Health, and Palm Springs Pride. Stonewall Spirit of Pride Award – Jase Nagaia Jase Nagaia is a native Californian whose passion for fitness, dedication to serving the community, and inclusivity are helping to change the landscape of wellness in Palm Springs. Jase, a recognized fitness instructor, saw the need for an inclusive fitness environment and created “Endeavor with Jase,” a unique and free low-impact cardio class. His experience overcoming hurdles in the fitness industry profoundly influenced the development of his classes. He created a haven where individuals from all walks of life could embark on their wellness journey without inhibitions and feel seen, heard, and valued. As a person of color and a member of the LGBTQ community, he uses the wisdom of overcoming adversity to foster a fitness environment that empowers participants to focus without the hindrance of self-doubt or exclusion. Spirit of Stonewall Friend of Pride – Greg and Dee Dee Barton Greg Barton and Dee Dee Wilson Barton, co-founders of Barton, CPA, opened their Palm Springs accounting firm in 2007 to bring their expertise in registered domestic partnerships to the LGBTQ community and to serve clients across the United States. Inclusivity and human rights are the core values of the firm. True allies Greg and Dee Dee have long supported their teen, now 22-year-old daughter, through a positive introduction to living life as an LGBTQ individual. Their community and philanthropical focus are on the LGBTQ community, women, children and education, medical assistance to low-income individuals, people experiencing homelessness, and food insecurity. Over the last five years, their commitment to the LGBTQ community has included being the top sponsor of the Harvey Milk Diversity Breakfast. Year after year, they are moved and inspired as 300 young people are bussed in to learn about Harvey Milk. Dee Dee has served as Chair of the Palm Springs Human Rights Commission and as a board member of The Foundation for Palm Springs Unified School District. An historic survey of mid-live and older (50+) LGBTQIA+ citizens is underway in California

At a time when so many states are attacking the LGBTQIA+ citizens who live within their borders, news of “Survey of LGBTQIA+ Older Adults in California: From Challenges to Resilience” is not only healing and restorative at its core, but also historic. The Snowstorm is the new, live, nightly, interactive, online, hot topics panel discussion television show from Nicholas Snow, creator, producer and host of PromoHomo.TV®, the online television network. Joining The Snowstorm is award-winning LGBTQIA+ community leader and advocate Jax Kelly, JD, MPH MBA, President of Let’s Kick ASS Palm Springs, an inclusive social group seeking to reduce the stresses of AIDS Survivor Syndrome. (Visit www.lkaps.org) The California Department of Aging (CDA) is supporting research partners and a statewide coalition of LGBTQIA+ community-based organizations to design and launch California’s first statewide survey documenting the needs, hopes and priorities of mid-life and older LGBTQIA+ residents across the state. ABOUT THE SURVEY: Mid-life and older LGBTQIA+ Californians are part of a generation that faced extreme levels of stigma during their lifetimes as well as pride in a movement that asserted civil rights for LGBTQIA+ people of all ages. Despite the central role that LGBTQIA+ Californians play in California’s history and in communities across the state, no baseline data are available that describe their aging experiences. Some studies, such as a COVID-19 study of LGBTQIA+ older adults in San Francisco, suggest higher rates of isolation, depression and suicide ideation, all of which could be addressed with more responsive and accessible services. As CDA and others seek to learn more about the aging experience of all Californians in support of the California Master Plan on Aging (MPA) goals for equity and inclusion, it is crucial that the unique life experiences within LGBTQIA+ communities are visible and honored. California’s survey of mid-life and older LGBTQIA+ residents will paint an up-to-date and comprehensive statewide portrait. To offer insights about the experiences of marginalized and underserved LGBTQIA+ communities, the survey team will oversample Black, Indigenous, People of Color (BIPOC), Hispanic/Latinx, and Asian Pacific Islander (API) communities, as well as rural and frontier communities. The survey data will form a first-ever baseline data set, which will be available to other researchers in an open-source format to encourage additional research and policy attention to the needs of mid-life and older LGBTQIA+ Californians. The post, an egregious example of anti-trans hate advocating for transgender people to commit suicide, featured an image of a striped curtain in the blue, pink and white colors of the transgender flag with a text overlay in Polish saying: ‘New technology. Curtains that hang themselves.’ “I personally want to hear Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg tell the world, today, that his company cares about the safety, rights, and dignity of transgender people,” said GLAAD President and CEO Sarah Kate Ellis. “This dangerous hate on his platforms is causing devastating real-world harm and it must stop. As GLAAD, HRC and 250+ LGBTQ celebrities and allies vehemently urged Meta back in July 2023, the company must urgently create and share an action plan for addressing the epidemic of anti-trans hate that runs rampant across Facebook, Instagram, and Threads — in violation of their own policies.” In its decision issued on Tuesday January 16th, the Oversight Board ruled that the post violated both the Hate Speech and Suicide and Self-Injury Community Standards of Meta. The Board ruling echoes and affirms GLAAD’s longstanding guidance to Meta. The ruling states that: “the fundamental issue in this case is not with the policies, but their enforcement. Meta’s repeated failure to take the correct enforcement action, despite multiple signals about the post’s harmful content, leads the Board to conclude the company is not living up to the ideals it has articulated on LGBTQIA+ safety. The Board urges Meta to close enforcement gaps, including by improving internal guidance to reviewers [content moderators].” The July 2023 open letter to social media platforms from 250+ LGBTQ and ally celebrities and influencers — including Elliot Page, Laverne Cox, Shawn Mendes, Ariana Grande, and Alyssa Milano — was facilitated by GLAAD and HRC, and demands that major social media companies, including Meta, create and publicly share a plan of action for steps they will be taking to stop the pervasive presence of anti-trans hate across their platforms, especially as such content violates their own hate speech policies. To date there has been no public response to the letter from any of the companies. “This new Oversight Board ruling presents a vitally important opportunity for Meta,” Ellis continued. “The company must address this urgent and terrifying phenomenon of violent anti-trans hate content. The weaponization of lies targeting historically marginalized groups has a long and terrible history and the spread of such disgusting bigotry should be vehemently and immediately denounced by Meta as not in alignment with their company values.” Jenni Olson, Senior Director of GLAAD’s Social Media Safety Program said of the ruling: “This is a powerful ruling from the Oversight Board that calls upon Meta to address failures we have been articulating for many years in the annual GLAAD Social Media Safety Index. Meta must urgently improve development and enforcement of their policies to better serve the safety, privacy, and expression of all of their users across all of their platforms.” GLAAD’s September 2023 Public Comment to the Oversight Board for their adjudication of the case noted that: “Meta’s content moderators should have accurately enforced its policies in the first place. It is a serious problem that the post was only removed after the Oversight Board alerted Meta. This case powerfully illuminates highly consequential systemic failures with the company’s moderation practices that have broad implications for all anti-LGBTQ hate content, as well as for content that targets all historically marginalized groups. Such moderation may be more complex than recognizing basic slurs, but this is why the company must provide adequate training and guidance to its moderators on recognizing anti-trans hate. Meta is fully capable of implementing such training yet continues to fail to prioritize it, resulting in epidemic levels of anti-LGBTQ hate across its platforms.” Read GLAAD’s full public comment here. One of the most glaring aspects of the case is that in response to multiple requests from users, Facebook’s human content moderators had repeatedly determined that the anti-trans content was not in violation of their policies. It was only after the Oversight Board told Meta that they had chosen the case for review, that Meta finally removed the post. Meta’s hate speech policy prohibits content that targets people on the basis of protected characteristics, including sexual orientation and gender identity. The Board took public comments on the case through September 2023 before adjudicating and issuing this recommendation. While Oversight Board recommendations are not binding, Meta must respond to them within 60 days. As highlighted in GLAAD’s 2023 Social Media Safety Index (SMSI) report, Meta’s Facebook and Instagram are largely failing to mitigate dangerous anti-trans and anti-LGBTQ hate and disinformation, despite such content conflicting with their own policies. The June 2023 SMSI also made the specific recommendation to Meta and others that they better train moderators on the needs of LGBTQ users, and enforce policies around anti-LGBTQ content across all languages, cultural contexts, and regions. MLK Day festivities focused on justice for Section 14 survivors

Multiple organizations and individuals from throughout Southern California (and perhaps further) gathered in Palm Springs, California, January 15, 2024 (Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.’s actual birthday) for MLK Day honoring the the Life, Work and Legacy of the civil rights icon. The focus of the day was centered on achieving just for survivors and ancestors of Section 14. PromoHomo.TV® Producer/Host Nicholas Snow captured the bulk of the days activities in two Facebook live broadcast, including the rally earlier in the day at Frances Stevens Park, and the interfaith service at the United Methodist Church (participants particpated in a one-mile walk between the two, symbolic of marches in Selma, Alabama.” Both live broadcasts are included in this comprehensive episode of The Snowstorm, which may very well be the single most historic capturing of the inspirational day. All sponsors and speakers are identified and acknowledged in the broadcast. Everyone was called to sign the petition at www.knowbeforeyougopalmsprings.comwhich states: As efforts to unearth the truth and seek reparative justice have gained traction in America, exhaustive research has placed Palm Springs squarely in the pantheon of the country’s history of racially terrorizing African Americans by taking property and destroying political power. Join us in demanding that Palm Springs recognize its true history and fulfill its commitment to make the Survivors and Descendants of Section 14 whole again. Sign the petition today. The website continues: “In July 1966, the California State Attorney General’s Office initiated a criminal investigation into the actions of Palm Springs officials in the use of force and terror to drive Black and brown residents of Section 14 out of their homes and community. The subsequent 1968 report concluded that Palm Springs officials had burned and bulldozed the homes and property of thousands of Black and brown people in the 1950s and 1960s in a “city-engineered holocaust.” Nearly 60 years passed before the City of Palm Springs conducted its own investigation. The City’s Human Rights Commission issued a jaw-dropping 400-page report of its findings and recommendations on April 28, 2021. Written by Ron deHarte (then chair of the Human Rights Commission and now an elected member of the city council), the report is the first time the City’s actions were uncovered in their entirety.” www.knowbeforeyougopalmsprings.com TOP FOUR WAYS TO SUPPORT PROMOHOMO.TV® 1. Ban on Trans Youth Healthcare in South Carolina Advances

Earlier this week (January 9th), SC United for Justice & Equality alerted a media with news of the passage through subcommittee of H.4624, the ban on medically necessary healthcare for transgender youth. The organization reports, “There was some inspiring and powerful testimony against the bill. Fifty people testived and all but one supported the bill.” A rally at the SC Statehouse was planned for the next day. Representatives from the organization have been invited to appear on a future edition of The Snowstorm. KEY PARTS OF THE MEDIA ADVISORY: The South Carolina House Medical and Health Affairs Subcommittee voted to advance H.4624 favorably to the full Medical, Military, Public and Municipal Affairs Committee. The bill would ban medically necessary healthcare for transgender youth under the age of 18 in South Carolina, including puberty blockers, hormone therapy, and surgery. Further, it prevents public funds from being used to cover the cost of transition-related healthcare for youth and adults. A surge of anti-transgender legislation like this has passed all over the country in the past two years; until 2021, no state had laws that banned transgender youth from accessing this healthcare. The vote on H.4624 came after 50 people testified on the bill – 49 people from all across South Carolina spoke against the bill, and only 1 person, representing the far-right group Alliance Defending Freedom (which has been designated a hate group by the Southern Poverty Law Center), testified in favor. The subcommittee did vote in favor of two amendments that mitigate a small fraction of the damage of the bill. One amendment removes language prohibiting providers from “aiding and abetting” youth in accessing gender-affirming care and clarifies that the bill should not be construed to blockade any affirming mental health care (the original bill as written was so broad that it could be read as a way to block even talk therapy). Another amendment removes a clause requiring teachers and school staff to notify parents if they suspect a student of being transgender. Jace Woodrum, a leader in the SC United for Justice & Equality coalition who also serves as Executive Director of the ACLU of South Carolina, was one of the people who testified today. He said in response to the vote: “I am so grateful for every transgender person and ally to transgender people who came out today to speak against this shameful and dangerous legislation. We heard from parents concerned about the health and safety of their children, a sister who saw the joy and independence that gender-affirming care brought to her brother, medical providers who know the science, and community members who spoke powerfully about their experiences as transgender South Carolinians. It is heart-breaking that even after such powerful testimony, lawmakers still voted to advance such a divisive bill that cruelly targets children.” “Let’s be clear: Extreme lawmakers are moving so quickly with this discriminatory bill because they want us to be complacent, stay quiet, and think this fight is hopeless. But together, we will be there every step of the way to speak out and force them to look us in the eye while they harm our community. We will never stop sending a message of love, support, and solidarity to transgender young people in South Carolina.” Advocates from the SC United for Justice & Equality coalition are available to speak with media about the legislation and its damaging impact on transgender youth. SC United for Justice and Equality envisions a South Carolina where everyone can thrive, with a focus on the lived and legal equality of LGBTQ people. The coalition advocates for the passage of legislation to protect LGBTQ community members and opposes anti-LGBTQ legislation. The coalition also works on intersecting issues of social justice, including racial justice, reproductive justice, voting rights, and health care access. www.southcarolinaunited.org TOP FOUR WAYS TO SUPPORT PROMOHOMO.TV® 1. Fellow Travelers transports our hearts back to San Francisco

Hearts across the world are reunited with San Francisco these days because of the intense, powerful Showtime series Fellow Travelers. For Nicholas Snow, that storyline of that series ends in the very years his young adult activism was forged early in the AIDS epidemic. Today’s guest Matthew Bamberg also has a very special relationship the city by the bay as chronicled in his story for The Gay & Lesbian Review (www.GLReview.org … a bimonthly magazine of history, culture and politics) entitled Pride and Acceptance in San Francisco. He joins us today to speak about these experiences and so much more. ABOUT MATTHEW BAMBERG (From Medium.com) Bamberg is a generalist, hitting a variety of themes and topics in photography, writing, education, and atmospheric science. He considers knowledge in terms of art by including images as part of each discipline. Matthew grew up in Miami after his parents immigrated from New York and New Jersey. As a teenager, he worked in Coconut Grove, Florida, in sales, not as a picture-perfect young person, but as an incipient flower child. The Vietnam War raged at a time when the first boats and planes arrived in South Florida from Cuba when Fidel Castro overthrew the government. Hippies clogged Miami area parks, creating crowds at “Love Ins.” Their message and chant: “All we are saying is give peace a chance.” Matthew’s offbeat topics from his youth experiences are used in much of his fiction writing on www.Medium.com.
