ShOOey's 2013 Hoedown Mix
This week's RIPEcast features a true Space Cowboy fav, ShOOey! Here's what she has to say about this mix: "After a 2-year break from the playa, I was excited to be back at Burning Man this year. I had an early arrival pass for the first time after 7 trips to the playa and I really enjoyed seeing BRC in the earlier part of the week. The Hoedown was, once again, a screaming success and seeing how many art cars came to join us speaks volumes to the amazing support we have from the burner community. I've been DJ'ing since 2003 and still get nervous every time I play, and I was worried I wasn't going to play the "right" music at 5am... but seeing those smiling faces on the dancefloor was the inspiration I needed to pick the "right" music. ;)" About ShOOey... ShOOey has been a staple in the San Francisco dance scene since 2003. You can find her and her infectious energy at Space Cowboys events playing breaks and house. She also dedicated her time DJ'ing in support for non-profit organizations like Beats for Boobs and La Casa de las Madres. If you don't find her on the decks, you'll probably find her on a bicycle. :D ★ FB fan page: facebook.com/djshooey ★ More ShOOey Soundcloud mixes: soundcloud.com/spacecowboys/sets/shooey ★ Follow her on Soundcloud: @djshooey ★ Contact: [info at djshOOey dot com] ★ Website: www.djshOOey.com ★ Space Cowboys: www.spacecowboys.org Miss ShOOey elected not to share the track list for this set, Folks. Trav - Lone Sheep v Black Wolf
This week's episode of the RIPEcast comes from Trav (SEISMIC), a long-time friend of Space Cowboys. Trav's creations always feature an original take selection and mixing, and that's even more true with this latest mix. He says: "This mix is a compilation of tracks and styles shared with me and inspired by my friends. It's got chill-out, rap, acoustic guitar, hip-hop, techno, and breaks. Thanks to everyone who contributed, and let this be a lesson to RIPEcast followers: DJs not only like to share music with you, they also like when you share music with them. Cheers!" In his RIPEcast this week, Raj is also debuting three original tracks all of which are forthcoming on the brand spankin' new Bounce Party imprint. Ma Yeah RIPEcast
This week the Space Cowboys are excited to welcome Janky Barge resident, Ma Yeah, to The RIPEcast. "Hello! I'm DJ Ma Yeah. I'm a resident with the Janky Barge and Camp Catmandu (check us out on the playa this year, we're the giant cat tree). I've played rap, house, and banging club music at a ton of venues all over San Francisco, at Burning Man, and at the Space Cowboys' excellent Ghost Ship halloween party. This mix is an hour of the one thing I love most: banging disco house. The funk and raw emotion of disco over the grooves and modern production of house... a truly legendary combination. Thanks to the Space Cowboys for letting me rock with y'all, and enjoy the tunes!" - Ma Yeah For more information on Ma Yeah visit: twitter.com/mayeah soundcloud.com/mayeah Artwork by www.jempanufnik.com

divaDanielle RIPEcast
This week we are very excited to be featuring a special guest mix from the lovely divaDanielle out of Los Angeles. Enjoy, Everyone! Known for her dynamic performances, ranging from Disco House to Booty Breaks with a dash of Hip Hop and Ghetto Funk thrown in, divaDanielle started her life as a DJ and producer after catching a record that Darren Emerson threw into the crowd in 2003. What she lacks in height, she makes up for in spunk and red-headed fury. Combining a love of unicorns with a fierce desire to promote women in EDM, she has risen to the top of the LA underground, unleashing rainbow-infused beats through a wave of mischief, music and artistry. You can catch divaD on July 27th in San Francisco at Monarch: Invaded By Unicorns, a fundraiser for her infamous Charlie the Unicorn art car https://www.facebook.com/events/554708027900567 For more information on divaDanielle visit: facebook.com/Music4Unicorns soundcloud.com/divadanielle Artwork by www.jempanufnik.com

Jurassik RIPEcast
This week we're pleased to welcome London's Jurassik (aka Ben Child) of Supatronix Records to The RIPEcast. Enjoy Everyone! London producer Jurassik is one of the new wave of artists combining jungle, garage and breakbeat flavours into the rich matrix of roughneck riddim that is UK bass music in 2013. Named by Beatport as one of the iconic dance music site's producers to watch and featured in DJ magazine, this badman student of the dancehall has cooked up material on critically-acclaimed labels like iBreaks, Menu Music, his own Supatronix records and Deekline's celebrated Hot Cakes imprint. The Bomb Squad RIPEcast
This week, the Space Cowboys welcome London's The Bomb Squad (aka Light-it and Do-one) to The RIPEcast. Enjoy, Boys and Girls!! "2013 has been a big year for The Bomb Squad and June sees our latest release on Diablo Loco Records (Voted Best New Breaks Label at Breakspoll 2012) and this new explosive mix we have put together for the superb San Francisco-based Space Cowboys. Big beats and bangs to come in 2013." - The Bomb Squad After stealing parts from Aphex Twins' dustbin in the early '90s and soldering them together to make a crude squelching machine, The Bomb Squad was formed. Twenty years of parties followed..including a stint in rehab...a lottery win...lost it all again (kaun banega crorepati?)...3rd prize in the canary breeders world championship... a small part on eastenders ...and Alf Lowe and Ozzie Later are back (also known as DJs Light-it and Do-one). The Bomb Squad will be bringing their brand of mayhem and general shenanigans to 2013 with several new tracks... BANG BANG! Dex Stakker RIPEcast
Making his RIPEcast debut this week is our pal, Dex Stakker, with one of his signature dirty electro mixes. Enjoy. Dex Stakker is an electro-house, electro and breakbeat DJ based in San Francisco. Formerly a longtime resident of festival-in-the-desert stalwart, Opulent Temple, and the popular SF-based production company Opel Productions, Dex has played countless venues all over Northern California. Dex recently joined newcomer Apex, artist-driven event production group and their first concern is to take that aforementioned festival experience to the next level (or maybe a couple of levels). "It's definitely been a transitional time for me. This mix was done as if someone stuck a gun to my head, and said: "You have 60 minutes to live. Rock the floor. Don't hold back." To which I would say: "Can you back that gun away from my ear a little, so I can get my headphones on?" - Dex For more information on Dex visit: www.facebook.com/dexstakker www.facebook.com/dexstakkerfans www.soundcloud.com/dexstakker Artwork by www.jempanufnik.com

Se7en Deadly Breaks RIPEcast
We've been waiting a while for an infusion of fresh sound into the international breaks scene and at long last we have two new, talented artists to be excited about in the world of breakbeat. This week the Space Cowboys are very excited to welcome to The RIPEcast this year's Breakspoll winners for best Breakthrough DJ, Se7en Deadly Breaks (aka Aaron King and Jake McCaffery). Press play and enjoy the ride! Aaron King & Jake McCaffery joined forces back in 2007 to form Se7en Deadly Breaks as they both had a passion for underground music (and an even bigger passion to be the ones behind the decks). Whilst the pair were making their mark in and around Berkshire they also had shows on two of the biggest pirate radio stations in London, PointBlank FM & Flex FM, which caught the attention of some well known names in the scene including Deekline & Wizard, Pure SX, Pyramid, Jigga Flo, Sneaky D, CodeBreaker and Ben & Lex to name a few. Over the last six years, Se7en Deadly Breaks have graced the decks at some of London's biggest clubs while sharing the bill with their idols in the Breakbeat world such as Deekline, Stanton Warriors, Pyramid, Ed Solo, High Rankin, Hostage & Jurrasik to name a few. They recently headlined the 2012 Hot Cakes Break Beach Festival in Spain and released their first single, "Superman", on Deekline's BOOTY BREAKS label in November 2012 (which went all the way to the top of Beatport's TOP 100 BREAKS CHART). And earlier this year, Se7en Deadly Breaks were named "Best Breakthrough DJ' at the 12th International Breakbeat Awards! Aaron Pope RIPEcast
This week on The RIPEcast, fellow Space Cowboy, Aaron Pope, is on the 1s and 2s skillfully weaving funky breaks and house as only Aaron can. Enjoy Everyone! Aaron Pope’s philosophy is that “music is all about drawing positive energy out of people,” and that’s what most people remember when they see him play - his infectious, positive energy. A longtime music fan and dance floor resident, Aaron brings this joy and love of music behind the decks with him, and at every gig he is constantly moving and interacting with the crowd. Although he made his start as a house DJ in some of San Francisco’s largest clubs over a decade ago, Aaron’s musical range has continued to expand over the years. He is as likely to be found playing low-slung, dirty breaks at an underground, or bouncy mid-tempo in a lounge setting, as he is to be playing peak-hour, uplifting house on a large system. Most of his sets encompass a wide range of styles and influences as he refuses to be confined to any one, specific genre. In San Francisco, Aaron has played at almost every venue, for a wide range of promoters. He has appeared in New York, Miami and Chicago, as well as abroad in Brazil, the Caribbean and Ibiza, alongside a diverse array of headliners. A successful producer, Aaron released a series of singles on Release Records with his former production partner, Chad North. One of the most successful, ‘The Grind’ topped out a number 8 on Beatport’s breaks chart. He is currently working on studio projects with several different production partners. Bertie Dastard Free Breaks Blog RIPEcast
This week the Space Cowboys are pleased to welcome, Bertie Dastard (a.k.a. Mike Perks), the editor and chief of Free Breaks Blog, a fellow-Breakspoll finalist this year in the 'Best Website/Blog' category. Mike is one of the good Samaritans in the world of breakbeat and he has been a huge supporter of The RIPEcast over the years. He launched his blog, which is a veritable gold mine of free tracks and DJ mixes, in 2010 (the same time The RIPEcast came into existence). If you're a breakbeat fan, bookmark Free Breaks Blog and check the site regularly. You can also follow FBB on Facebook. Finally, congrats to Mike for recently becoming a new dad! "The mix is a combination of the best free breaks tracks that have been featured on the site over the years or are exclusive forthcoming material. I really could have made a thousand different mixes with the amount of quality tracks on offer but wanted to try and showcase the producers and sounds that are really pushing breaks worldwide right now. Deekline, Stanton Warriors, Krafty Kuts, Future Funk Squad, Mafia Kiss, Jurassik and Se7en Deadly Breaks are all at the forefront of the UK breakbeat scene and it shows with the amount of amazing music and parties they are involved with. We have been lucky to work with most of this artists in the past and have another exclusive from Se7en Deadly Breaks coming very soon which is featured in the mix. Marten Hørger and Lunathics cover the European side of breakbeat in the mix with the usually high standard of edits and remixes they are known for. From the USA I have selected the king of breakbeat re-edits REL1 who has provided us with 9 exclusives for the blog launch including the wicked breakbeat /trap edit featured in this mix. Also we have legendary breaker DJ Icey and long time blog supporter Sychosis with two more killer tracks. The Austrailian breaks scene is alive and kicking and Philly Blunt and Micah Black provide the material to prove it with two reworks that are pure dancefloor fire." - Bertie Dastard Bertie Dastard is the editor in chief of the biggest and best breakbeat blog on the internet, www.freebreaksblog.com. In its three year existence they have gone from a passionate "fan site", to being internationally recognised as the leading blog for all things breakbeat related and nominated in the worldwide, 2013 Breakspoll awards for best website. They regularly run exclusive features and competitions from the best artists in the scene including Stanton Warriors, Krafty Kuts, Sub Slayers, Aquasky, ILS, Fort Knox Five, Mafia Kiss, D-Funk, Hexadecimal, Unstable Label, Ground Level Records, REL1, Toronto Is Broken, Jinx In Dub and many more whilst always supporting the up and coming artists and "bedroom producers". In the words of Bertie himself "We aim to be the number one site for all things breaks, beats, glitch, funk and bass related." Artwork by www.jempanufnik.com

DJ Sol's Chicken 'n Waffles RIPEcast
This week DJ Sol is servin' up this tasty chicken 'n waffles RIPEcast. Bon appetit! DJ Sol comes from a background spanning 3 generations of musicians, so the music is definitely in his blood. Growing up in Los Angeles in the late 70s and early 80s, Sol found inspiration in the newly-emerging hip-hop sound of that era (e.g. Kurtis Blow, Grandmaster Flash and Afrika Bambaataa) - a style that became the impetus for a DJ career that now spans three decades. He first started DJing small parties in the late 80s but eventually relocated to San Francisco in the early 90’s to get involved the emerging underground house and breakbeat music scene. At this point he began aggressively pushing his DJ'ing career and by 1998 he was playing at many of the biggest clubs and underground parties in San Francisco. The style of music he spins is an eclectic combination of House, Breaks, Hip-Hop, Mash-up's & NuFunk. He's shared billings with notable DJ’s such as Mark Farina, Miguel Migs, Andy Caldwell, Jeno, Derrick Carter, Stanton Warriors and Plump DJs to name a few. He recently just finished a 10 year run of the popular bi-monthly party VIVID in San Francisco and is also a member of the Space Cowboys playing their biggest events including Burning Man, Halloween’s Ghost Ship party on Treasure Island and the infamous SF New Years Day party Breakfast of Champions. Deekline RIPEcast
We know we're a little late getting this week's RIPEcast out to you, but we think you'll find it was with the wait. The Space Cowboys are pleased to welcome special guest, Deekline, to The RIPEcast! Enjoy, Everyone! Deekline is that rare figure in dance music, the seminal producer who balances the cutting edge and the mainstream with effortless flair. Head of the London to Brighton-spanning Hot Cakes collective of producers, promoters and DJs, this bass music icon recently released new album Bounce 'n' Shake with studio partner in crime Ed Solo, an eclectic tour de force sent down with the kind of assurance one might expect from DJs who have sent bodies flying round the room at club venues across the globe for more than a decade. A hero of the underground from the days of his Platinum-selling UK garage anthem I Don't Smoke Da Reefer, Deekline oversees a range of Hot Cakes imprints (Hot Cakes, Sludge, Jungle Cakes and the legendary Rat Records) all of which work tirelessly to propel street level artists into the forefront of the electronic music scene. On a live tip, the Hot Cakes parties have achieved the rare feat of blowing up clubs on both sides of the Atlantic, in Miami, Spain and London, where his flagship night sits pretty at the heart of Brixton at iconic underground nightclub Jamm. He's also known to put on a rump-shaking boat party or two on the river Thames. In the studio, Deekline is a bonafide musical shapeshifter, his impressive diversity having seen him rework the likes of Armand Van Helden, Old Dirty Bastard and The Prodigy. He is currently remixing the new Laidback Luke new single and earlier in 2013 his 2-step-flavoured reworking of Lethal Bizzle & Donae'o's Not A Saint anthem proved he's still in touch with his UK garage roots at a time when the sound has never been hotter. Fittingly for a producer whose Hot Cakes brand has become a byword for bassbin-shaking bravado, this is one artist who's cooking up a storm right now. ShOOey Live from Breakfast of Champions 2013
Breakfast of Champions was another great start to the new year, and is no doubt my favorite party of the year. BOC is like a reunion of sorts and I love seeing friends come out of the woodwork. I played a little on the early side and was feeling nervous because I didn't really know what to expect at 10am. But, as soon as I got on the decks, all the nerves washes away with the sea of smiles on the dancefloor. I'd also like to thank our superstar volunteers who helped collect food and money for the SF Food Bank and everyone who donated. With everyone's generosity, we collected an amazing 250 pounds of food and $2,585 in cash. The Space Cowboys made a 100% matching cash donation for a grand total of $5,170 donated. We will continue to make our food drive an annual tradition and show that we can do good for our community and have fun doing it! - ShOOey ★ FB fan page: facebook.com/djshooey ★ More ShOOey Soundcloud mixes: soundcloud.com/spacecowboys/sets/shooey ★ Follow her on Soundcloud: @djshooey ★ Contact: [info at djshOOey dot com] ★ Website: www.djshOOey.com ★ Space Cowboys: www.spacecowboys.org Miss ShOOey elected not to share the track list for this set, Folks. Vitamin B [Brooklyn, USA] RIPEcast
For this, the final RIPEcast of 2012, the Space Cowboys are pleased to welcome our East Coast breakbeat brothers-in-arms, the Vitamin B crew from Brooklyn. Now the longest-running (and only) monthly breaks party in New York City, Vitamin B eschews mandatory costumes, expensive tickets, velvet ropes, and all attendant bullsh*t in favor of cheap booze, good times, and booty-shaking beats. On the first Friday of every month, residents Tektite, Tim the Enchanter, and Barney Iller bring their signature blend of slutty, high-energy breakbeats to Bushwick’s House of Yes, raising eyebrows and lowering inhibitions with every track. The Vitamin B sound goes beyond breakbeat to explore the outer regions of syncopated rhythm, with elements of electro, bassline, Baltimore club, UK garage, old school hardcore, dnb, and a tasteful smattering of soulful house. The surgeon general warns that listening to this mix may result in sore feet, neon urine, and an inability to locate one’s pants. The Vitamin B crew recently played to a capacity crowd in the main room of the legendary Pacha NYC. Special guest headliners have included DJ FIXX, Udachi, Munchi, Ursula1000, Wavewhore, Michna aka Egg Foo Young, Ninelives the Cat, Morsy, Raydeus, J*Labs (Black 22’s), Duane Harriot, Lee Mayjahs?, $mall ¢hange, Alex Funk, Sequoia, and Tarquin. Upcoming guests include Deekline (2/1/2013) and Zinc (3/1/2013) – so if you find yourself in Brooklyn, c’mon out and dance! Sol Live from Ghost Ship Apocalypse
"Next to Burning Man itself this is one of the wildest parties on the planet. From the gigantic hangar packed with multiple sound areas, more than forty of the Bay Area’s finest DJs and performers, mind boggling art cars including the Unimog, two Silent Discos, and an enormous array of large-scale interactive artwork including an apocalyptic city with a giant flying saucer that did a live cow abduction, this was one party not to be missed. This year I was fortunate to be playing the main stage where the DJ booth was perched ontop of a massive wall of speakers over 15' tall by 25' wide! What better way to blow up an apocalyptic city than dropping some hard hitting bombs! Darren Grayson Live from Ghost Ship Apocalypse
This week our good friend from DISTRIKT, DJ Darren Grayson, makes his RIPEcast debut with this live recording of his set from the Unimog at Ghost Ship Apocalypse! "I was psyched to have my cherry popped with a first-sets-two-fer this Halloween - first time playing on the UNIMOG and first at Ghost Ship. This set kicked things off this year, and as usual it wasn't long until Treasure Island was rockin' full throttle. This is a tech house / progressive / techno mix, just the right vibe to suck you onto the dance floor and get you moving before dropping the hammer. Enjoy!" - Darren Grayson www.spacecowboys.org

8Ball Live from Ghost Ship Apocalypse
It's horribly unfair, but unfortunately the responsibilities of adulthood sometimes have a knack for getting in the way of a good time. Case in point: Halloween is the bestest holiday ever, and one of my favorite ways to celebrate is by playing a special, ghoulish set at Ghost Ship. This year, however, a couple little things called work and parenthood loomed as obstacles to finding the time to brew my special mix. But thanks to a little black magic I like to call "multi-tasking", I was able to meet my professional and familial obligations, while still weaving together a set of new breaks, old rave classics, along with some spooky surprises. Was it worth it? Let me know! Only for Ghost Ship, kiddies! - 8Ball The 13th Annual Breakfast of Champions will be returning to Utah Street & Mighty again on January 1st, 2013! As always there will be an all-star DJ line-up playing from 6 AM until you cry “uncle” in four different areas of sound: - A tented, outdoor stage featuring a Funktion1 system beginning at 9 AM - A outdoor silent disco beginning at 6 AM - The main and side rooms inside of Mighty beginning at 6 AM. Ground Control Live from Ghost Ship Apocalypse
"Ghost Ship Apocalypse was an experience I'll never forget. I've been lucky enough to play the last three years and the party keeps getting better. The production value and art were insane. I've got to give a shout out to my family in the Janky Barge for putting a fantastic room together yet again. I've always prided myself on being a shapeshifter, tailoring my sets to the party and the crowd, so when I found out I was playing on the Space Cowboys' Unimog, I thought I'd bring a little more of an old school breakbeat flavor to my set than one might usually find. It was especially fun to dig in the crates for classics like the Beat Assassins' remix of "Repeated Groove" and the Rogue Element's take on The Prodigy's "Girls." Those tunes, and some personal edits of "Rhythm Is a Dancer" and 2 Bad Mice's "Bombscare" really prove that dance music doesn't just have to be about the newest of the new." - Ground Control Jason Apple, aka Ground Control, is a San Francisco based bass music producer and DJ. His productions draw heavily from bassline and early rave music, with stops on the way at dubstep, funky, and electro, and breakbeat. Ground Control's debut record, "Be Nice," was released on En:Vision Records in June 2008. He has since released music on such labels as Play Me Recordings, Hot N Heavy, 9G Records, and Sleevin Records. His ongoing collaborations with San Francisco DJ/producer DJ ICON have been featured on illeven: eleven Records, Rat Recordings, and Vibrance Recordings. He recently started a side project, Shouts!, for his more melodic, housier output, while still keeping an eye firmly on the dancefloor. As a DJ, Ground Control has played at some of the Bay Area's biggest parties, including Icebreakers Ball, Freqo de Mayo, Ghostship, and Breakfast of Champions, sharing the stage with Tipper, Adam Freeland, Jack Beats, Calvertron, DJ Icey, Bassbin Twins, Star Eyes, and Reid Speed to name just a very few. Barney ILLer & DJ Shakey RIPEcast
DJs Shakey and Barney ILLer have a combined total of 20 years of Burning Man experience under their belts, and breakbeat on the playa has been a huge influence on them since the beginning. As long-time fans of Space Cowboys, they are very excited to join in on the RIPEcast action and represent for New York. "Breaks" encompasses a wide spectrum of music out east, and Shakey and Barney iLLer have tried to cover a lot of that territory in this week's mix -- with funky breaks, funky house, Baltimore club, ghetto breaks, ragga, hip-hop, rare groove, and jungle. DJ Shakey is a professional DJ and staple of the Manhattan and Brooklyn underground scenes. She stays dedicated to both new-school and old-school culture, simultaneously running The Warper Party, New York's biggest electronic music showcase, and also vinyl diggers' favorite Shakey's Record Fair. Shakey has a legendary record collection, and is a contributing writer at Controllerism.com. Together with Barney iLLer, Shakey recently had funky breaks remixes presented through Boogie Boutique (UK), and was featured on Jon Kwest's Winter Moombah Conference compilation. They have played major venues across the world, including The Room in Tokyo, Sound Channel and Union in Osaka, and the Button Factory in Dublin. Barney Iller is the renaissance man of DJs, playing and producing just about any genre you can think of. He's recently produced an album cut for MC Zulu coming out this year, and a ghetto breaks track for Dutch-Caribbean group Kuenta i Tambu. As his tropical alias Guapo Feo, he's released remixes recently for Gato Preto and DJ Tack & DJ Tamalero through TropicalBass records, and was recently featured on the compilation Rot10 Invades Miami vol. 2. Along with Austin's DJ Orion, he founded the OG Series of moombahcore EPs, with the 3rd installation due shortly. Guapo Feo's "Oro En Polvo" was named best track of the 2011 by Caballo at TropicalBass.com, and his "Heartache" was named as one of 2011's Most Underrated Music by Marcus Dowling. Barney iLLer is a regular sight at the Brooklyn underground's best parties and venues, as well as prominent east coast Burning Man events (Disorient, Kostume Kult, PEX, Decompression, Figment, regional burns). He has played all over Burning Man, including Root Society, Dustfish, Basshenge, PEX, Kostume Kult, Disorient, Nexus, Burners Without Borders, Dirty Beetles, Black Rock Boutique, and Tsunami Bass Experience, and arts cars the Janky Barge, the Bump Bed, A Cavallo, the Dodo, the Nautilus, and more. He is a resident of the infamous and long-running Rubulad party in NYC and a member of the Mischief crew in DC, as well as the newest resident DJ of the Vitamin B party in NYC. He is a member of BMIR and the Plug 4 camp at Burning Man, and also hosts the Jungle Revival! party alongside DJ Shakey. For more information on DJ Shakey visit http://djshakey.com. Ethan Miller Live from Friends and Family XVI
This week the Space Cowboys are pleased to welcome our good pal, Ethan Miller, to the program. For this, his RIPEcast debut, Ethan treats us to a live recording of his set from the Friends and Family Camp Out this summer. Press play. Enjoy! "Every DJ has their signature event - BOC, the Halloween Renegade, Sanctuary, etc. - the one event they look forward to all year, plan for, practice for and get up for, no matter what. That event for me is the Friends and Family Summer Campout, an event I've been helping produce for over 16 years now. While every year has its surprises, breaking my ankle mud wrestling just hours before my set was at the extreme edge of that category. But, like the postman, neither rain, snow, sleet, hail, irate husbands or brutal dogs was going to come between me and the dirty pounding I had in mind for FnF's dancefloor that night. It's light on finesse and heavy on vicodin but this set Blew Shit Up and if it doesn't make you dance, you can have your money back. Enjoy!" - EM A little more background on this week's spacial guest.... Colorful founder of the much-loved Bay Area dance collective, Friends and Family, Ethan has been making dance floors sweat since 1993. Known early in his career for hard Acid and Techno sets, the years since have revealed a taste for Breaks, House, Tech House, Deep House, and of course Techno of all flavors. While currently turning up at DISTRIKT, BrassTax, Strategik, SWAG, MotorCityJam, Prohibition, Opel, and other Bay Area underground events, Ethan has also held residencies at MAD Mondays, RhythmMethod, Delve, and of course Friends and Family. Reaching way back you would have found him holding it down at some of SF's now legendary raves including The Gathering, Vision, Basics and more. For the complete musical trip through Ethan's DJ travels, visit his web site at http://www.djethan.com where you'll find 17 years of his favorite mixes all free for your listening pleasure. Trav Live from Andrea's 40th in Las Vegas
This week on The RIPEcast, a live recording of our good pal, Trav [Seismic], poolside from Andrea's 40th birthday in Las Vegas. Enjoy! At the end of July the Space Cowboys gathered at The Artisan Hotel in Las Vegas for the 40th birthday of Cowboy managing partner and party-planner extraordinaire, Andrea Lundquist. Birthdays were the overriding theme of the entire weekend as several of our friends (Cindy, Matt and Spoon) were also celebrating another trip around the sun. The Artisan gave us control of the poolside sound system from Friday night to Sunday morning and our DJ friends from DISTRIKT, Deep End, Seismic and Green Gorilla joined the Cowboys on the decks to provide the soundtrack for the weekend. It was a sh*t show of Hunter S. Thompson proportions highlighted by an impromptu synchronized swimming performance, male strippers, a gorgeous custom print for the birthday girl from Finger Lickin' illustrator Jem Panufnik and a 5-hour closing set from our pal, Elite Force. Of course that is only the top line. The rest of what happened in Vegas, as they say, stays in Vegas. ;) Artwork by www.jempanufnik.com

Aaron Pope's Route 25 RIPEcast
"Summertime for me is as much about happy, funky, mid-tempo music at the pool, or by the lake, as it is about peak-hour beats in the club. When putting together this RIPEcast, also the 25th edition of my "Route" mix series, I was reluctant to have to choose between those two vibes... so I decided not to. This mix is 50/50; nu-funk bounce, followed up with full-on, dance floor energy. A little longer than most mixes, but hopefully worth it. A wise man said recently that too much dance music being made today is all about the fist pump, and not enough about the booty-shake. Well, I think what makes the San Francisco underground special is that we ALWAYS remember the booty-shake, and I hope this mix lives up to that spirit. Here's hoping everyone has a happy, funky, sunny summer. Get outside and enjoy it!" - Aaron Pope

Soul of Man's Electro Breakin' RIPEcast
Hold on to your panty girdles we're going in! Finger Lickin' instigator and party rockin' DJ, Justin Rushmore (a.k.a. Soul of Man), presents a full-on aural assault, a stunning collection of finely sliced pickings from the big bullets of breakbeat. Heavy duty acid flavours and juggernaut-scale monsters from the scene's heavyweights. Justin has a passion for a whole cross section of dance music but here he shows off his signature breakbeat sound, featuring lots of producers from the extended Finger Lickin' family. "Breakbeat has generally become a whole different genre since we created the label back in the late nineties", says Rushmore. "It's not something I recognise or get that excited about these days; however, dig a bit deeper and you'll find that sound is still alive and kicking. I love the old school flavours, tough funky grooves and exciting rythms and that's exactly what you get in this mix. It's LARGE and I love it!" The festival season is just kicking off in Europe and Justin is playing Secret Garden (UK), Stop Making Sense (Croatia) which includes a mini tour of the Czech Republic. He's also launching his own clubnight in Brighton called Eclectic Discotech. Check Justin's Soundcloud page to download more mixes: http://soundcloud.com/soul-of-man!

All Good Funk Alliance - Rave Level 9 RIPEcast
This week on The RIPEcast some East coast flavor (although not what you might expect) from DC's All Good Funk Alliance (a.k.a. Rusty Belicek and Frank Cueto). "We try to draw inspiration from every style of music and we are always looking to new sounds for something that we can relate to and gain a creative perspective from" says Rusty. "I went a bit different then our normal style as this is for the Space Cowboys. Lately I have been hanging out with some younger producers in DC who dig on Trap and Seapunk music. I got inspired and dug through these newer genres and dug out the funky gems. I think Space Cowboys is the only place we could see dropping this mix. We hope you dig it." A little more background on this week's distinguished guests.... When it comes to All Good Funk Alliance, always expect the unexpected. This spring AGFA is set to drop a new album with Fort Knox Recordings—a genre-spanning release featuring go-go drums, spaced-out synths and funky bass-lines. It marks a new direction for All Good Funk Alliance, and is somewhat of a departure from their signature sound, but fans needn't stress—this is one duo that never leaves the funk behind. Made up of Frank Cueto and Rusty Belicek, All Good Funk Alliance has opened up for the legendary James Brown, written songs for Coca-Cola and appeared on the Breakspoll Top 50 list. In other words, these guys are no strangers to the funk. And while their musical tastes range the gamut, when Frank and Rusty join forces the end result is always the same: they deliver a sound that is funky, fun and fresh. All Good Funk Alliance has long been lauded by critics and fans alike, and DJs looking to inject flavor into their sets invariably seek out that unmistakable AGFA sound. Their remix of big band legend Woody Herman's track, "Mambo Herd," was met with critical acclaim, and the boys recently signed a major remix deal to put their indelible, funk-infused spin on Kraak and Smaak's hit album “Plastic People." When AGFA's release, "REC," dropped in 2007, Properly Chilled described it as "modern funk mixing the best of hip hop and funk [with] lots of percussion breakdowns." Turntable Lab has also raved about the duo's sound, summing it up as: “continually hitting the head-nodding nape." Since 1999, All Good Funk Alliance has released music on a host of labels, including its own heavyweights: Funk Weapons, Super Hi-Fi Recordings and Baffin Island Beat Brigade. Frank and Rusty have played at clubs and festivals around the globe—from Canada to Australia—and the pair has even opened up for the iconic godfather of soul himself, James Brown. Recognized as influential pioneers of the Nu-Funk and mid-tempo breaks sounds, AGFA's innovation and originality has earned them universal respect across the breaks industry. Now, poised to unleash a fresh new album brimming with unreleased music that encompasses multiple genres, All Good Funk Alliance is ready to kick off the latest chapter in their book of funk. Colombo (iBreaks) on The RIPEcast!
The Space Cowboys are thrilled to bring you this RIPEcast-exclusive mix from iBreaks super-star and 2012 Breakspoll-winner, Colombo. A native of Malaga and formerly one half of BSD (BASS STAR DOS), Colombo wrote his first dance track in 1999 at the tender age of 17. Following stints with Reflex Musik, Starsing Records and Dubplate Records (2003 through 2007), the young Spanish producer joined forces with iBreaks in 2009 and quickly established himself as the label's brightest star. Today, we can safely say that nobody is making more noise in the world of breakbeat. On June 1st, Colombo will be making his first-and-only U.S. appearance right here in San Francisco at Public Works for Strategik's 4-year anniversary. Joining him on the bill is Space Cowboys' own, DJ Zach Moore. DJ Everyday (PEX/Playloop) on the RIPEcast!
This week on The RIPEcast East Coast meets West as the Space Cowboys welcome DJ Everyday (PEX/Playloop) from Philadelphia to the 1s and 2s. Press play and enjoy, Boys and Girls! A little more background on this week's guest... For some people, music is not a hobby but a way of life – something that fills and inspires each day and every breath. DJ Everyday lives this reality with every beat he drops, whether he is producing tech-laden grooves, performing at major international music festivals, helping to run Playloop Records or throwing the infamous PEX parties in his native Philadelphia. Not many performers can claim to have opened for Deadmau5 and played sunrise on the Playa at Burning Man, but DJ Everyday straddles these two worlds with ease and a smile, uniting the electronic music community beyond appearances or geography. Consistently on-point with fun and refined sets of tech house and techno, DJ Everyday is an integral force in the electronic arts scene, a local luminary whose duties range from sound guy to A& R to party starter. Known for his keen ability to read the crowd and connect on an emotional and spiritual level, DJ Everyday’s down-to-earth vibe and laid-back attitude belie the fact that he has played hundreds and hundreds of clubs, festivals, parties and concerts, including an opening spot in San Francisco with the legendary Orbital on their 2010 tour. A drummer by trade, DJ Everyday has been producing and performing for over a decade. His powerful style and positive vibe have made him a favorite not only in Philly where he plays as resident at PEX parties, but also at dance floors across the nation and around the world. Since signing with Playloop Records in 2006, DJ Everyday has released a number of singles through the label both independently and in collaboration with friend and producer Kezner as “Locality.” A major force in the Philadelphia party scene, DJ Everyday has been playing the popular Philadelphia Experiment (PEX) parties since 2007 and now helps to throw some of the top events of the year, from bigger shows like Heartburn and the Halloween Ball to more intimate one-offs. This year, he is one of the producers of the SubCulture music festival in Philadelphia. This year is off to a pounding start for DJ Everyday. Proving that beats know no bounds, this world-touring DJ continues his musical expeditions into 2012; having just performed multiple dates in Costa Rica, including the Envision Festival, as well as the release of his new single "Nepenthe" with Matt Cue. In between global gigs, you can hear DJ Everyday at the PEX vs. Playloop monthly parties in Philadelphia, or at the SubCulture Music Festival and PEX Summer Festival in June. In addition to his heavy touring schedule, watch for DJ Everyday to release a new EP in collaboration with Matt Cue later this year. Fresh and fun, DJ Everyday’s beats need no special occasion to make you move…just put on the record and dance- every day. Bobby C Sound TV RIPEcast Redux
This week, a RIPEcast reprise from our pal, Bobby C Sound TV out of Denver. For his second go 'round on The RIPEcast, Bobby has put together this tasty, 67-minute eclectic mash-up of nu funk, hip hop, pop, R&B and more. Press play and enjoy, Boys and Girls! In case you missed him the first time around, here's a little more background on this week's guest.... It's not everyday a producer/DJ gets blogged by one of their favorite directors as is the case with Bobby C Sound TV who was recently blogged and called brilliant by Edgar Wright, director of such cult movies as Shaun Of The Dead, Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World and Hot Fuzz. Bobby C Sound TV is one Bobby Collins hailing from Denver, Colorado. He has been playing instruments from an early age and then a fateful show with Peanut Butter Wolf and Cut Chemist had him convinced on the spot that a pair of turntables were in his future. He has been DJing for the past 10 years and has played just about every venue in his home state including Red Rocks Amphitheater, The Fillmore as well as being the first artist in The First Bank Center (AEG's new 8,000 seat flagship venue) for its VIP party. In 2010 Bobby was one of 20 DJ's in the US selected to play the Sweatshop Mixer at The Coachella Music Festival. In early 2009 Bobby started messing around with a video DJ plug-in and soon after unveiled, "Bobby C Sound TV". His love of cinema was combined with his 10 years of DJ experience to create a pastiche of pop-culture that is visually stimulating and danceable at the same time. His live mash up DJ approach was applied to create crowd rocking routines with some of the most memorable music videos, movie scenes and just about everything in between. The past few years have seen him busier than ever on the production front with remixes and releases on 7 different labels worldwide and jumping on multiple top 10 lists for Juno Download and Beaport. Many more releases are on the way and his Soundcloud page has been getting thousands of plays and downloads each week while his youtube channel is fast approaching 225,000 plays. His tracks have been turning up in DJ sets all around the world as of late to packed dancefloors everywhere. Alongside remixes for the likes of Positiva, Multiply, Sony and Cheeky, Ali B has also released mix albums for Fabric, Y4K, Godskitchen and his own Air Recordings label. Ali B is widely regarded as the DJs DJ, as comfortable at the controls of clubs such as Fabric playing a heady mix of cutting edge bass and beats as he is digging for rare 7’s to play one of his exclusive party sets. He is regularly in demand at high profile events such as Vancouver’s Winter Olympics, Abbey Road Studios with Mark Ronson, numerous film wrap parties, various private members clubs such as Bungalow 8 & Dover Street Arts Club and celebrity events which in the last 12 months have included Mick Hucknall’s 50’th birthday party and Gary Barlow’s wedding anniversary. He is happiest travelling the world and seeking out intrepid party locations such as Afrikaburn in the Karoo desert, Burning Man in the US or Lake Of Stars in Malawi, catch him while you can… For a little more background on AfrikaBurn, check out these videos Ali B shot at last year's event: http://www.youtube.com/user/airrecordings Or visit www.afrikaburn.com. DJ Sol Live from Breakfast of Champions 2012
This week we're pleased to bring you this very special birthday RIPEcast from our pal, DJ Sol, who will be celebrating his 50th this coming Thursday! You'll have two opportunities on Thursday to catch Mr. Sol in action. First at the Academey of Sciences with the Space Cowboys for Yuri's Night and later that evening at Mighty. Happy Birthday DJ Sol! A few words from Sol on his BoC experience... "The Space Cowboys Breakfast of Champions has become a San Francisco New Years Day institution with each DJ raising the bar higher higher. From the first time I played the hot and sweaty inside room upstairs at Whisper back in '04 to the glorious chilly main stage outdoors at Mighty last year, one thing has never changed...this city loves to party! This time around I was rockin the Silent Frisco for the first time, starting off with some phat ass nu funk and moving all the way into dirty chunky electro house....all 100% Sol approved!" - Sol www.spacecowboys.org Artwork by www.jempanufnik.com

Bobby C Sound TV on The RIPEcast!
Wow!!! Thank you San Francisco for making the 12th edition of Breakfast of Champions the best one yet! We're happy to report that Zach recorded most of the DJ sets from the day and they will be made available on The RIPEcast and/or our SoundCloud page in the coming months. But for now enjoy this fabulous mash-up from our friend Bobby C Sound TV who comes to The RIPEcast by way of Mancub! A little more background on this week's special guest.... Trav Live from Ghost Ship IV: The Afterlife
It's always an honor to help throw a party with the Space Cowboys. They are a hard-working, creative, organized, and crazy bunch who just LOVE to get down once everything is all set up. The week before Ghost Ship I volunteered to work on some of the big art, which was a lot of fun because the community around the party is just as fun as the party itself (maybe even more!). Unfortunately I had to leave town for a week, which meant I didn't get to see everything all put together until the night of the event. That night, I entered the hangar and was blown away! What a truly awesome, special thing we get to partake in here in the Bay Area. The art was amazing (from Peter Hudson's CHARON to the hanging, massive viking ship to the interactive puppets). It was a little slice of Burning Man in a 7 hour window. And since I didn't make it to the burn this year, it was just the thing I needed. I chose a set featuring a few classic house tracks to warm up the viking ship dance floor before midnight. The crowd was grooving, and I'm sure you will too. Enjoy! - Trav For more information on Trav visit http://p00p.org Photo courtesy of http://finzw8.photoshelter.com
