The Story of Two Gametes: Episode 1 - Male infertility: The Hidden Health Crisis
by The Story of Two Gametes: Episode 1 - Male infertility: The Hidden Health Crisis
Male infertility represents one of the most underrecognised and undertreated conditions in reproductive medicine. Affecting up to 70% of infertile couples either as a sole or contributing factor, its global prevalence has risen, driven by a well-documented secular decline in sperm concentration and total sperm count. Despite this burden, male factor infertility remains systematically deprioritised: up to one in four infertile men never receives a formal fertility evaluation, and the diagnostic and therapeutic workload continues to fall disproportionately on the female partner. This podcast series — The Story of Two Gametes — aims to address that imbalance. Across eight episodes, we will examine the epidemiology and pathophysiology of male infertility, the coordinated role of the hypothalamic-pituitary-gonadal axis in spermatogenesis, and the clinical significance of semen quality and quantity as a biomarker of systemic male health. We will explore the diagnostic work-up, the limitation
