The Table We Grew Up At
by Brittany Kavi
We’re siblings — and we grew up around the table. Some of our best memories started there. Our dinners were never quiet or serious — they were loud, funny, and full of life. We can still picture our mom giving Dad that look like, “These are your kids. Are you going to do something about them?”Around that table, we talked about everything — life, love, heartbreak, faith, and sometimes we even worked out our frustrations there. It wasn’t always perfect, but it was real, and it was ours. Now, we each have our own tables with our families — but there’s something special about coming home. So we’re bringing that same energy to a new table — a virtual one — where we can laugh, reflect, and share stories about growing up in the Anabaptist world.<span style="font-weight:400;"

Episode 8: The School We Grew Up At
This week we’re cracking open the memories from our little church school — you know, the one where every grade was basically in the same room and the drama level was way higher than the student count. We’re laughing through the stories that still make us wheeze, and all the moments that had us trying not to laugh out loud in front of the teacher. There were the inside jokes that lasted for years, the accidental chaos, the “did that really happen?” moments, and a few stories we probably should’ve kept to ourselves… but obviously didn’t. It’s messy, nostalgic, and very “yep, that tracks” energy. If you grew up in a tiny private school where everyone knew everything, you’re gonna feel right at home. Pull up a chair — we’re just having fun with this one. ✨ Resource Links Sign up to stay connected to The Table We Grew Up At. Brittany Kavi - Life & Health Coach Brandon Yoder Kourtney Miller

Episode 6: 1 Corinthians 11: Our Story, Our Struggle, Our Perspective
In this episode of The Table We Grew Up At, we’re opening up about a topic that shaped a meaningful part of our church experience growing up—head coverings. Rooted in 1 Corinthians 11, this practice was something we didn’t just read about—it was something we lived. Today, we’re sharing what that looked like in our church, how we understood it at the time, and how it impacted us personally. We know this topic can feel controversial or even sensitive depending on your background. Our goal isn’t to debate or convince, but to honestly reflect. We’re each in our own place now, and we want to create space for nuance, growth, and grace. This conversation is about more than a practice—it’s about how we navigate faith as we grow, question, and come into our own. Wherever you land on this topic, we hope this episode feels like sitting at the table with us—honest, open, and full of grace. If this conversation resonated with you, we’d love to hear your story. Share your experience, thoughts, or questions with us—we’re always honored to listen. Episode 5: How Communion Was Practiced
Communion wasn’t always easy for us. The way it was practiced — and the environments we experienced it in — made it hard to fully understand or appreciate what it was meant to be. But by the grace of God, our perspective has changed. What once felt heavy or distant has become something we now value deeply. In this episode, we reflect on how our early experiences shaped our view of communion — and how grace helped us grow into a place of appreciation for it today. ✨ Resource Links Sign up to stay connected to The Table We Grew Up At. Episode 4: Baptism and Church Membership
Baptism and Church Membership In this episode, we’re talking about how baptism and church membership worked in the church we grew up at — and why the decision felt so big. In our world, baptism and membership were tied together, which meant saying “yes” wasn’t just about personal faith. It also meant stepping into a long list of expectations, commitments, and responsibilities within the church. We share: • What baptism and membership looked like in our Anabaptist setting • How linking the two made the decision feel heavier • The pressure we felt to be “ready” in all the right ways • What the process looked like from the inside • Our own memories of wrestling through whether we were prepared for what came with it It’s a straightforward, honest introduction to a part of church life that shaped a lot of our early faith decisions. ✨ Resource Links Sign up to stay connected to The Table We Grew Up At. Episode 3: Leadership and Ordination in the Church
Leadership and Ordination in the Church In this episode, we’re talking about how leadership worked in the church we grew up in — specifically how ordination happened and how leaders were chosen. If you grew up in a similar setting, some of this will feel familiar. If you didn’t, it might give you a clearer picture of the structure and expectations inside conservative Anabaptist churches. We walk through: • How our church selected and ordained leaders • What the process looked like from the inside • How this shaped our understanding of authority, calling, and church life • A few personal memories and reactions from growing up in that system It’s an honest, straightforward look at a part of church life that influenced a lot of our upbringing — not dramatic, not heavy, just a clear explanation of how things worked in our world. ✨ Resource Links Sign up to stay connected to The Table We Grew Up At. It wasn’t all funny or all serious, but it was a huge part of our childhood, and we wanted to start by painting a clear picture of what that world looked like for us. We talk about: • The traditions, expectations, and routines we grew up with • The parts that felt strict or different from other churches • A few light moments and memories that still make us smile This episode isn’t about unpacking everything — it’s just an honest look at the environment we were raised in, so you can understand the backdrop of our story as we go forward. ✨ Resource Links Sign up to stay connected to The Table We Grew Up At. Podcast Introduction
Welcome to The Table We Grew Up At In our very first episode, we’re pulling up a chair and inviting you into the place where everything started for us — the table we grew up at. We’re siblings who were raised in the Anabaptist world, and that upbringing shaped us in ways we’re still unpacking. Some of it was beautiful. Some of it was heavy. All of it was real. And around that old kitchen table, we learned to laugh, question, argue, dream, and process life together. In this introduction episode, we share: • Who we are and what it was like growing up in a rigid Christian environment • The stories, quirks, and chaos that shaped our family dynamic • Why we created this podcast and what we hope it becomes • How our faith has shifted, stretched, and survived the journey • What listeners can expect as we talk honestly about deconstruction, healing, and finding God outside the boxes we were handed This podcast is for anyone who grew up in strict Christian circles, anyone wrestling with the Anabaptist way of life, or anyone who just needs a place to process their story with people who get it. Our hope is simple: that this space feels like coming home — loud, honest, grace-filled, and full of life. ✨ Resource Links Sign up to stay connected to The Table We Grew Up At.
