The Tennessee Fats Library Podcast - Episode 6 - Tim Lebbon's Conan: Songs of the Slain

Welcome to Episode 6 of The Tennessee Fats Library Podcast!I took a totally different approach to this one after a long break between episodes. I wanted to make these episodes more organic and less scripted and when I looked back at the amount of typing and notes that were needed in the Red Sonja Consumed Episode (Episode 5) I decided to go with written notes and more off the cuff commentary based on explaining the point forms in my notes. In this episode I dive into Tim Lebbon's Conan: Songs of the Slain.I already covered this book briefly on my main channel  @tennesseefats  so I figured why not do the deep dive into this one since it was still top of mind. This one had a lot going on in the villains, but the heroes and the adventuring party really were lighter fare. Thoroughly a fun read and I did enjoy it, but I'll spend more time here talking about the bad guys as I think they really stole the show in this book. I also dive into LOTS of Hyborian Age Conspiracy Theories in this one,Although this one is slightly different and a long one we'll stick with the same format.I'll start with a brief summary of when this one was published and what version I'm reading and then we'll get into the following topics:1) What's the Story About & Who are the Characters?2) What are the major Themes that Occur In the Story?3) Do we run into any Archaic Language that needs explaining?4) What did I think and what hit home to me? and finally5) What further readings are suggested if you like this story? Then we'll wrap this sixth episode up. Now remember: this series is meant to be a podcast. I have links in the about this channel section to take you to those links where you can download this and listen to it later at your leisure. No flashy effects or hooks, no fancy thumbnails or imagery: just the walkthrough so save yourself the visual of me reading along in my notes and going off on the random tangent here and there. Definitely go with Audio Mode - You'll thank me for it.Not sure what I'll read for the next one. Suggestions? And of course let's add some hashtags so interested parties can find this one:#conan #booktube #podcast #conanthebarbarian #podcast #fantasybooks #bookclub #bookreview

The Tennessee Fats Library Podcast - Episode 5 - Gail Simone's Red Sonja Consumed

Welcome to Episode 5 of The Tennessee Fats Library Podcast!I already walked through the Red Sonja Consumed Novel in a VERY brief way on the main channel (  @tennesseefats  ) so, although I wanted to avoid a Novel for the next podcast on this channel, I figured this deserved more attention. There was a LOT going on in this book, and I think the major change here is that this is NOT the Red Sonja that most of us grew up reading from Marvel back in the day. This is in fact Gail Simone's new re-imagining of Red Sonja. Totally different person.Hyborian Age? YesRed Hair? YesFights Like a Maniac? YesEverything else? DifferentI know the books somewhat divisive and I get how changing a character that people already know could rub people the wrong way, but for the most part I enjoyed this book and learning about this different Red Sonja.Although this one is a long one we'll stick with the same format.I'll start with a brief summary of when this one was published and what version I'm reading and then we'll get into the following topics:1) What's the Story About?2) What are the major Themes that Occur In the Story?3) What aspect of this story hit the hardest for me?4) What further readings are suggested if you like this story? Then we'll wrap this fifth episode up. The Tennessee Fats Library Podcast - Episode 4 - Edgar Rice Burroughs' The Cave Girl

Welcome to Episode 4 Everyone! I know it's been a while since Episode 3 but I had a few text's I had to get through (and I am a rather slow reader).I'm happy to say we're back and in Episode 4 we're covering Edgar Rice Burroughs' The Cave Girl Novel - which is actually a collection of two separate serialized stories that were published under the names The Cave Girl & the Cave Man between 1913 and 1917.The story is a rather odd play on Burroughs classic Tarzan theme with a few key changes in both the direction of cultural shift as well as s a gender role change. Two very differently paced pieces in one novel.Let's Go!

The Tennessee Fats Library Podcast - Episode 3 - Silvia Moreno-Garcia's Mexican Gothic

Welcome to Episode 3 of The Tennessee Fats Library PodcastIn this episode I'll walk through Silvia Moreno Garcia's Mexican Gothic. This is a newer gothic piece that was actually recommended to be my the editor of Universal Monster's Dracula Comic a few years back. Unfortunately after reading the back cover on this one I became way to scared to read it and it sat on a shelf collecting dusts.Well last month I decided it was time to get off my patukus and fix that.So after a really enjoyable read, it was time to sit down and type out a LOT of notes about this one (since I COVERED my copy in dog eared corners and pencilled in notes).Although this one is a long one I'll stick with the same format I've worked through on the last two episodes.I'll start with a brief summary of when this one was published and what version I'm reading and then we'll get into the following topics:1) What's the Story About?2) What are the major Themes that Occur In the Story?3) What aspect of this story hit the hardest for me?4) What further readings are suggested if you like this story? Then we'll wrap this third episode up. Not sure what I'll read for the next one. Suggestions?

The Tennessee Fats Library Podcast - Episode 2 - Edgar Allan Poe's The Fall of the House of Usher

Welcome to Episode 2 of The Tennessee Fats Library PodcastIn this episode I'll walk through Edgar Allan Poe's The Fall of the House of Usher. It's a bit of a more robust tale than the shorter one we covered in Episode 1 with some seriously different cadence and language, but a fun story none-the-less.I'll start with a brief summary of when this one was published and what version I'm reading and then we'll get into the following topics:1) What's the Story About?2) What are the major Themes that Occur In the Story?3) What aspect of this story hit the hardest for me?4) What further readings are suggested if you like this story? Then we'll wrap this second episode up!

Welcome to Episode 1 of The Tennessee Fats Library PodcastIn this episode I'll walk through Robert E. Howard's Sea Curse (not THE Sea Curse, it's just Sea Curse...).I'll start with a brief summary of when this one was published and what version I'm reading and then we'll get into the following topics:1) What's the Story About?2) What are the major Themes that Occur In the Story?3) What aspect of this story hit the hardest for me?4) What further readings are suggested if you like this story? Then we'll wrap this first episode up.

The Tennessee Fats Library Podcast - Episode 0 - Introduction

Welcome to the Tennessee Fats Library! This channel was specifically created to allow me to dive into the books and literature that I already cover in the Tennessee Fats YouTube Main Channel:https://www.youtube.com/@tennesseefats Why the second channel? Well, in skimming through the books and stories in the main channel I'm avoiding the spoilers as much as I can but in the process of doing that we're missing the "Meat & Potatoes" of those stories. So I created this channel to strip things back and just talk though the stories in details. No editing, no background music, single take recordings of me at the desk with my notes just talking through the books. Why would you want to watch the video? Well, you wouldn't. BUT what you might want to do is stream the podcast sometime when you're out jogging, or driving, or taking the train and just focus on the story.I cannot guarantee there won't be any side-stories as we go (as I do tend to include them at ALL times), but at least I'll try to make them enjoyable.Welcome to the channel everyone and welcome to the first stabs I make into a podcast.
