    For My Wife

Instead of diving into the darkness like we usually do in this podcast, I want to reach up into the light. Instead of exploring the mysterious, I want to talk about the only thing that I KNOW to be true. Death is not the end... It is a new beginning. _________________________________________ Episode Written and Produced by Tyler Liston Music used with full permissions and licenses from Artlist.io _________________________________________ Want to be a part of a future bonus episode of The Timber? The Michigan Dogman

Every culture has a legend about werewolves. The Greeks have King Lycaon. The Romans have Moeris. The Norse have Sigmund and Sinfjotli. The list goes on and on. Loup-garous, vukodlaks, skin-walkers, Lobizons, Kurtadams, and the Beasts of Bray Road have been terrorizing humans for centuries. The State of Michigan is home to one of these fearsome beasts. Is it a flesh-and-blood animal brought into the open by deforestation? Is it a partially-psychic phenomenon like Bigfoot or the Mothman? Is it the king of the Anishinaabe underworld, visiting our realm to feed? Is it an ultraterrestrial being who normally resides in the dimensions next to ours, but can be seen by us when the veil is thin? In the case of the Michigan Dogman, the answer to all these questions might be "Yes". _________________________________________ Episode Written and Produced by Tyler Liston Music used with full permissions and licenses from Artlist.io _________________________________________ Want to be a part of a future bonus episode of The Timber? Death of a Prophet: The Benny Evangelist Family Massacre

"In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth". There are 4.8 billion people alive that believe this to be an accurate description of how our world came to be. In the 1920's, there was a man living in Detroit who believed that the true creation story was VERY different than the one were given in the Book of Genesis. So, he wrote his own. Soon, hundreds were coming to him for religious teaching, magic rituals, curses, hexes, and love potions. He was living the American dream, until one day in 1929 when someone broke into his home and murdered everyone inside with an axe. Someone who has never been caught. This is the story of the Benny Evangelist Family Massacre. _________________________________________ Episode Written and Produced by Tyler Liston Music used with full permissions and licenses from Artlist.io _________________________________________ Want to be a part of a future bonus episode of The Timber? The Melon Heads

The Western coast of Michigan has several idyllic and prosperous towns that are surrounded by thousands of acres of dark and foreboding woods. In those woods, there are beings hiding behind the trees, waiting for hikers or travelers to come across their path. Beings with enormous heads, emaciated limbs, and razor sharp teeth. Were these beings sufferers of a horrific disease, brought to the area to be experimented on by a mad doctor? Or, were they brought to the area from somewhere... else? This is the story of the Michigan Melon Heads. _________________________________________ Episode Written and Produced by Tyler Liston Music used with full permissions and licenses from Artlist.io _________________________________________ Want to be a part of a future bonus episode of The Timber? Haw Creek: The Viking Roanoke

In the year 985 C.E., a group of Viking settlers led by Erik the Red settled on the frozen tundra of Greenland. Against all odds, they thrived there for almost 500 years. Then, they disappeared without a trace and without warning. Did they starve after the onset of the Little Ice Age? Were they wiped out by their neighbors to the North, the Thule Inuit? Did they cut off all communication, move deep into a frozen fjord, and continue to live out their lives there like a Norse version of "The Village"? Or, did they venture too far North, finding themselves lost in the realm of Niflheim? While there, did they stumble across the bubbling and roaring whirlpool Hvergelmir, and get sucked down into Hel? This is the story of the disappearance of the Norse Greenlanders, a mystery on par with the lost colony of Roanoke, and how one of the world's most famous cartographers and geographers might have proven that Norse mythology is real. _________________________________________ Episode Written and Produced by Tyler Liston Music used with full permissions and licenses from Artlist.io _________________________________________ Want to be a part of a future bonus episode of The Timber? The Glocester Ghoul

Haw Creek: The Peoria State Hospital

Opened in 1902 as the Illinois Asylum for the Incurable Insane, the Peoria State Hospital treated thousands of patients in its 70+ years of operation. Was it a place of compassion and healing, or was it, as Ghost Asylum described it, a place where "countless people died undergoing barbaric medical experiments”? All I know is that whatever walks there, does NOT walk alone. _________________________________________ Episode Written and Produced by Tyler Liston Music used with full permissions and licenses from Artlist.io _________________________________________ Want to be a part of a future bonus episode of The Timber? Haw Creek: The Shadow with Red Eyes

Even when I am alone, I am never actually ALONE. For almost four decades, I have had a frequent visitor. A visitor who is darker than dark, like a shadow's shadow. A visitor that will sometimes grab my ankle in the night, or sometimes just stand silently in the corner. Smiling. Watching me with those smoldering, glowing red eyes. _________________________________________ Episode Written and Produced by Tyler Liston Music used with full permissions and licenses from Artlist.io _________________________________________ Want to be a part of a future bonus episode of The Timber? The Phoenix Lights

In March of 1997, thousands of people living in the Valley of the Sun looked up and saw a strange sight. A series of lights, flying in formation, slowly and silently crossed over the Phoenix metropolitan area. What fascinated, and terrified the citizens of Arizona that night, though, wasn't the lights themselves.  It was the mile-wide ship the lights were attached to.  _________________________________________ Episode Written and Produced by Tyler Liston Music used with full permissions and licenses from Artlist.io

Louisiana is filled with old, and I mean OLD religion. African, Caribbean, French, and Indigenous religions have combined to create a magic realm of mysticism and mystery. Haw Creek: True Detective, Nietzsche, and a Flat Circle

As Rust Cohle says in True Detective, “Time is a flat circle. Everything we've ever done or will do, we're gonna do over and over and over again. And that little boy and that little girl, they're gonna be in that room again and again and again forever." This might sound like pretentious freshmen-year philosophy talk, but there’s more to it than that. It might just be the ticket we need to better understand the very nature of reality. It might just be the starting point we need to analyze so we can stop the Hosannas of the world from happening again. It might be pretentious, sure, but it also might be our salvation. The Rougarou

Louisiana is a mysterious place. Over time, French Catholicism and Southern Baptist Protestantism merged with West African and Haitian religions like Vodun and Hoodoo to create a region filled with spirits, myths, superstitions, and strange beings in the swamp. One of these beings is the perfect amalgamation of French, Indigenous, and African mythology. It stalks the swamps and sugar cane fields around New Orleans. It has the body of a man, and the head of a wolf. It has an insatiable desire to feed on human flesh, especially the flesh of a child. And it might just be real. This is the story of the Rougarou. Haw Creek: Shadow People and The Hat Man

Thousands of people every year claim to be haunted by shadow people, and I am one of them. Some believe them to be guardians, or angels keeping watch over them at night. Some think that they are demons, sent from Hell to terrify and weaken the spiritual strength of those they visit. Some say that they are simply ghosts, replaying their lives repeatedly on a loop. What are they? Let's try to find out. Documenting the Dead

In the 1860s, Boston photographer William Mumler took a self portrait that would change his life. In the photo, above his shoulder, was the translucent image of a woman. She appeared to be made of light, and upon further inspection, Mumler believed the image to be that of his cousin, who had died twelve years earlier. Whether he meant to or not, Mumler stumbled on the first ever instance of “spirit photography”. The Bridgewater Triangle

The city center of Boston might house some of the world’s finest doctors and scientists, there are still wide swaths of land in this state where the boundaries between science and magic are blurred. Where fact and fiction blend until the world around you becomes unrecognizable. One such place is probably the most paranormally active areas in the entire country. It has UFO sightings, cryptids, curses, poltergeists, and vengeful spirits. Many of you have probably already heard of this area, thanks to an early episode of The Last Podcast on the Left, but what you might not know is that every single one of these phenomena all spring from the same well.
