The Union Podcast Episode #111- Jay Stringer On Deciphering Desire: How We Love, Grow & Heal
In this episode of The Union Podcast, Bryan and Bonnie Pue sit down with therapist and author Jay Stringer to explore the heart behind his powerful new book, Desire. Building on the groundbreaking insights of his previous work, Unwanted, Jay invites us to move beyond behaviour management and into a deeper, more honest engagement with the stories shaping our longings. For many, the conversation around desire—especially within Christian spaces—has been reduced to avoidance, suppression, or shame. But what if desire is not the enemy? What if, instead, it is a doorway into healing? Together, we explore why desire has been so widely misunderstood, how curiosity can become a pathway toward freedom, and what it looks like to hold both personal responsibility and compassion in tension. Jay unpacks how our sexual and relational patterns are often rooted in past wounds, and how paying attention to them—rather than numbing or controlling them—can lead to deeper transformation.Bryan and Bonnie also engage Jay in a thoughtful reflection on the life of King David, asking how we might understand even profound moral failure through the lens of desire, formation, and unmet longing. Whether you’re wrestling with shame, confusion, or fear around your desires, this conversation offers a hopeful and grounded invitation: your story matters, and healing begins with curiosity, not condemnation. In this episode, we cover: • What led Jay to write Desire and how it expands on Unwanted • Why desire has been misunderstood in the Church • The limits of behaviour management and the invitation to deeper self-understanding • How curiosity helps heal what shame has distorted • Holding together repentance, responsibility, and compassionate self-examination • A fresh lens on King David’s story • Practical first steps toward healing for those feeling stuck in shame. Episode #109: Gretchen Huizinga On Church Culture, AI and Human Relationships
In this episode Bryan and Bonnie sit down with Gretchen Huizinga to explore the mysterious and, to some, controversial topic of AI. This episode dives deep into how artificial intelligence is not just a tool, but a mirror reflecting human flaws, spiritual dangers, and divine opportunities. Gretchen Huizinga, a Christian scholar at the intersection of AI ethics and theology, shares eye-opening insights on how AI threatens to replace human voice and voice, risk idolatry, and influence the fabric of church life and personal identity. She highlights startling realities—AI coaching into self-harm, monopolizing productivity, and subtly replacing our ability to wrestle with difficulty—pushing us toward dependence rather than dependence on Christ. You'll discover: -How AI's roots in secular humanism clash with biblical truths about human worth and divine image -The biblical principles that challenge us to steward technology responsibly instead of succumbing to idolatry -The dangers of outsourcing our moral, spiritual, and relational development to machines -Why the church must reclaim its voice and lead as countercultural stewards of authentic humanity in an AI-driven world -Practical guardrails rooted in the fruits of the Spirit, especially self-control, to resist the subtle seduction of ease and efficiency -This episode is perfect for church leaders, Christians navigating a tech-saturated culture, and anyone concerned about AI's influence on our souls and society. As Gretchen reminds us, in a world increasingly dependent on AI, the true voice and presence of God remain essential—our hope, our guide, our greatest treasure. Don't miss this urgent call to reflect, resist, and reclaim what it means to be fully human created in God's image. Introducing Bonnie's new book, Awkward: Conversations About Sex and Culture, they challenge the idea that silence protects children and instead call parents to lead with courage, clarity, and presence. The conversation moves from why these discussions matter to when and how to start them, addressing age-appropriate topics and the real barriers parents face—including shame, fear, and unresolved past experiences. The hosts also engage cultural pressures surrounding gender ideology, urging parents not to outsource formation to culture. The episode closes with a direct charge to parents: become students of your children, seek wisdom over comfort, and engage the hard conversations now—because formation is already happening.Get your Copy of Awkward 📖 Watch On YouTubeWatch On Rumble

Episode #104- Glen Scrivener On Why Consent Is A Christian Invention
In this episode of The Union Podcast, we’re joined by Glen Scrivener—author, evangelist, and CEO of SpeakLife—for a rich and thought-provoking conversation on how the gospel has shaped the way we understand sex, consent, and human dignity.Glen is well known for his work with SpeakLife, a UK-based ministry that uses creative storytelling, media, and digital content to engage hearts and minds with the truth and beauty of Jesus. Whether it’s through spoken word films, interviews, or cultural commentary, Glen and his team are passionate about helping people see how the gospel speaks into every area of life—including some of the most difficult and sensitive topics in our world today. In this episode, we dive into his book The Air We Breathe, exploring the surprising ways Christianity has influenced the moral foundations of Western culture. Focusing especially on the concept of consent, we look at how the Greco-Roman world understood sexuality—often marked by power, dominance, and inequality—and how the early church introduced a radically different ethic, one rooted in the worth and dignity of every person. We talk about what made the Christian view of sex so distinct in that cultural moment, how the gospel reframed relationships not just with rules but with reverence, and why this matters deeply in our modern conversations around consent and human value. Glen also shares how the early church's faithfulness to the teachings of Jesus told a better story—one that brought hope and healing then, and still has the power to do the same today. If you've ever wondered whether the gospel has anything meaningful to say about sex, relationships, and the deep wounds so many carry—this episode is for you.Get Your Copy Of- “The Air We Breathe”Speak Life Website3-2-1 CourseSpeak Life YouTube ChannelSpeak Life Instagram

Episode #96: Monique Duson On Intersectionality, Sexuality & Walking In Unity
Racial reconciliation is a significant topic in our current cultural moment. The key question is: Is the approach taken by the world effective? We argue that it is not and that the Scriptures and the Gospel of Christ offer a better solution. This was the focus of our recent interview with Monique Duson. Monique helps us better understand how intersectionality and Critical Race Theory (CRT) influence today's perspectives on human sexuality. Additionally, we discussed her new book titled "Walking in Unity.""Walking in Unity" aims to provide Christ-centered solutions to the issues surrounding race and racism. Authors Monique Duson and Krista Bontrager address the distinctions between secular approaches to achieving consensus and the biblical call for unity. They explore what Scripture teaches about racial harmony and emphasize how Christians can find a shared identity through faith in Christ.Monique Duson is the President of the Center for Biblical Unity. With a social services and children's ministry background, she has worked with a diverse range of underserved communities. Monique served as a missionary in South Africa for over four years, helping children and teachers affected by drugs, violence, and trauma. For two decades, she advocated for Critical Race Theory (CRT), but after experiencing a series of events, she began to recognize the contradictions between CRT and the historic Christian worldview. Monique is now convinced that CRT is not the best path to achieving racial unity, and she actively speaks out against its application within the church.Monique has appeared on various shows, including *Relatable* with Allie Beth Stuckey, the *Alisa Childers Podcast*, and *Breakpoint* with John Stonestreet. She holds a BA in Sociology from Biola University and is currently pursuing an MA in Public Theology at Birmingham Theological Seminary.Click here for more on the Center For Biblical Unity and to get your copy of “Walking In Unity”Follow on social media under the handle @centerforbiblicalunity

Episode #89- Neil & Sharol Josephson On Getting The Rocks Out Of Your Marriage
Healthy and thriving marriages filled with love are cultivated over longer periods. Just like with grapes grown to make wine, it can take years of purposeful attention to the proverbial soil quality of this covenantal relationship. Sometimes there can be little rocks under the surface that end up choking the life and love out of marriages. Little things left unchecked can become big problems. So, how do we identify these rocks and get them out of the soil of our marriages so that the fruit of this relationship can be intoxicatingly healthy? This is exactly what we are going to discuss in today's episode with Neil & Sharol Josephson from FamilyLife. Before stepping into the call to work with FamilyLife, Neil worked as a Bible school president and Sharol as a TV broadcaster. Together they also worked as marriage pastors at a large church in Southern California. In addition, they have served as the directors of FamilyLife Canada and have recently stepped into a role as the directors of FamilyLife International. Neil and Sharol have been married for over 40 years and have a great depth of understanding and wisdom in what it takes to have a thriving marriage. Episode #88- Meisha Watson On Finding God in Your Single Story
We often talk about how God is the "Author and Finisher of our faith" and how He "orders our steps". However, when it comes to the reality of singleness, we have a hard time believing that it could be under His authorship. In this conversation, we will be discussing these very issues with our guest, Meisha Watson.Meisha has worked in the Canadian entertainment industry for over 12 years. Episode #87- Nancy Pearcey: The Toxic War On Masculinity
Have you ever wondered how we ended up in a world where masculinity gets a bad rap? You might have seen headlines like "Why Can't We Hate Men?" or come across hashtags like #KillAllMen. It's a trend that's hard to ignore, with articles titled "I Hate Men," "No Good Men," and "Are Men Necessary?" You might have also heard claims that evangelical Christian men are prime examples of toxic behaviour. However, the research tells a different story. Studies show that men who are committed to their families and attend church regularly are often the most loving husbands and dedicated fathers out there. And get this—they also have the lowest rates of divorce and domestic violence in the country. In her book, The Toxic War On Masculinity, Pearcey takes us on a journey through history to uncover how the idea of masculinity became tangled up with negativity. But it's not all doom and gloom. She's also armed with solutions for how we can turn things around. These sociological insights challenge the stereotypes we often hear about men and show us that embracing traditional Christian values can help bridge the gap between the sexes. So, next time you come across a #KillAllMen tweet or a book bashing masculinity, remember that there's more to the story—and that there are steps we can take to create a flourishing world for everyone.Nancy Pearcey's latest book is The Toxic War on Masculinity: How Christianity Reconciles the Sexes. Her earlier books include Love Thy Body: Answering Hard Questions about Life and Sexuality, The Soul of Science, Saving Leonardo, Finding Truth, and two ECPA Gold Medallion Award Winners: How Now Shall We Live (coauthored with Harold Fickett and Chuck Colson) and Total Truth. Her books have been translated into 19 languages. She is a professor and scholar in residence at Houston Christian University. As a former agnostic, Pearcey has spoken at universities such as Princeton, Stanford, USC, and Dartmouth. She has been quoted in The New Yorker and Newsweek highlighted as one of the five top women apologists by Christianity Today, and hailed in The Economist as "America's pre-eminent evangelical Protestant female intellectual."Get Your Copy of Nancy’s Books TodayFollow Prof. Pearcey On X (Formerly Twitter)

Episode 82- Matthew Schlesinger On Keys To A Better Sex Life Part 2
I’ve heard it said that “ the only key for better sex in marriage, from a man’s perspective, is for the wife to bring food and show up naked.” All joking aside, being an authentic man is a challenging topic for many guys. As men, we hear a wide variety of voices calling for everything from the crushing of the patriarchy and the ever-growing definition of toxic masculinity to the other extreme of “red-pill” masculinity that sees manhood as being defined by money, power and sex. How we see these topics will affect the type of man we become and the health of sexual intimacy we have in marriage. That’s exactly what Bryan and Pastor Matthew Schlesinger talk about in this episode.Matthew, and his wife, Sabrina were married in 2000 and served as pastors alongside Matthew’s parents for ten years in Oregon. The dream God placed in their hearts years earlier unfolded and in December of 2012 they joined the Grace team as Lead Pastors in their favorite city, San Diego. Matthew is fun and authentic. He loves God’s Word, places priority on His Presence, and believes that the local church is the hope of the world. Matthew & Sabrina are the proud parents of three beautiful daughters and one amazing son. Their family mission is to populate heaven and plunder hell. It’s a joy to obey God’s instruction and His leadership in our everyday life.In Episode 69, Bryan sits down with Rachelle Starr and discusses her new book, “Outrageous Obedience” and how we can grow in radical obedience that shows the amazing love of God in some dark and challenging areas of humanity. If we are willing to do what they did we can see what they saw.In this episode, we are highlighting a message Bryan preached at a recent MFI Canada Conference. He covers:-The template of Satan’s strategy found in the garden of Eden-The re-occurring cycle of God’s judgment towards idolatry.-The hope of the Gospel to bring people out of brokenness into wholeness.
