I invited Paul Weller to make hour long programme  for Piccadilly Radio's birthday and this is the show I produced. From the Timmy on The Tranny radio archives a piece of pop history from spring 1983 with Gary Kemp from Spandau Ballet.    This tape has been in my loft ever since.  It was opened for the first time in decades and the tape loaded onto a reel to reel machine.    Stephanie Hirst has digitised it now so that we hear it again the magic of that evening show.    He's live, late Friday night on Piccadilly Radio Manchester, taking real calls from teenage fans. Proper conversations treating everyone with respect and answering their questions genuinely.    These callers aren't vetted by his 'people' or pre-recorded. They ring in, my helpers in the control room switch them through, and they'll tell everyone how they spoke to their pop hero.    There are mentions of other pop stars in the news that week.  Whatever happened to American act 'Prince Charles' for instance? And are we ever influenced by or just compete with rivals?    You'll hear the crackle of analogue phone lines  (digital hadn't been invented) and tact in Gary's responses to unfamiliar accents. A piece of Pop history from the golden age of music - May 1984. A joyous hour of Timmy on the Tranny on Piccadilly Radio one Thursday night......  This is the the evening  when Helen Terry from Culture Club came up to Manchester to launch her solo single. At the end of the hour Paul Morley of ZTT records  is on the phone to talk about the controversial Frankie Goes to Hollywood hit - Two Tribes. This is all on the same day Wham went to Number 1 with Wake Me Up Before You Go Go and George Michael is a surprise guest on Timmy on the Tranny (search the show in my Timmy on the Tranny radio archive).  I just happened to record their visits and decades later found the tape in my loft. It's a piece of radio history that's been languishing among the rafters for decades.  Stephanie Hirst kindly digitised the work and now I'm happy to release it with the story of the day. WKRP in Cincinnati was always a favourite  TV show. The theme tune was heard nightly on my Piccadilly Radio show with my version. I'm living on the air at Piccadilly Piccadilly that's the one for me!  

First broadcast on BBC Radio Oxford Tuesday  December 9th 1980 17:00-17:30. I found the quarter inch tape in my loft unheard and not noticed for decades. It comes with my memories of that day to put the story into context.  

Martin Harris of Oxford is the voice on this jingle from 1981. I met him in December 2019 and he reminded me of the occasion. Here's the jingle! What a treat

The wonderful Chas and Dave recorded this Timmy on the Tranny classic jingle in 1981 when they released Rabbit. It's effortless and delightful!  Thanks boys!

Timmy starred in the panto Sleeping Beauty at the Porthcawl Grand Pavillion 2007-2008. The show was brilliant and tickets were in such demand it was a record breaking run!

He did such a great job, we kept him on to come up with some of the nuttiest ideas on the show!

She was brilliant and got a job on the presenting team immediately!

"It was written before we had any idea what would be in the show! so we had to pad it out a bit!"

At Oxford United's open Day Paul Beavers came over to say hello! He was one of the young jinglers on Timmy on the Tranny at Radio Oxford .

Geoff Mega makes kitchens but he started out as 1980's rock star and got his taste for show business from appearing on Timmy on the Tranny at Radio Oxford!

You never know who you'll meet at an airport. The pilot of the shuttle was a wideawaker who told Timmy how he's been to the equator and watched the water going down the plug hole. Also on the flight Timmy met Sarah and her mum. Sarah had been on Wacaday as a phone in competitor.

The April Fool's trick that nearly got me the sack - apologises to all those kids who thought they really needed a licence for their bikes - especially when someone reminded me of this AND still bore a grudge for decades!!!!
