Bell Tech Talk Episode #11 - Garmin G1000 Insights for Maintainers
Welcome to another episode of Vertical MRO Tech Talk presented by Bell.In this episode of Vertical MRO Tech Talk presented by Bell, host Jon Gray is joined by Greg Judd, along with Gabriel Leveille and Jason Estaphan, to discuss the Garmin G1000. This conversation provides a deeper understanding of how the system can directly support maintainers in their day-to-day work. As avionics platforms continue to evolve, systems like the G1000 have become more than just flight deck tools—they are increasingly valuable resources for troubleshooting, diagnostics, and operational insight. The conversation explores the progression from earlier systems to newer configurations like NXi, highlighting improvements in processing speed, internal memory, and system integration. These advancements have significantly reduced update times, simplified database management, and improved the ability to diagnose faults more precisely. For maintainers, this means less time chasing ambiguous issues and more confidence in identifying root causes.Beyond hardware and software improvements, the discussion emphasizes the importance of engaging with the system itself. From navigating system pages to interpreting flight and fault data, building familiarity with the G1000 allows technicians to better leverage available information and avoid unnecessary component changes. The ability to access and interpret log files, system messages, and historical data is becoming an essential skill set in modern rotorcraft maintenance. As avionics systems continue to advance, the gap between operations and maintenance continues to narrow. This conversation highlights how maintainers who invest time in understanding these platforms are better equipped to support both the aircraft and the mission. We want to hear from you! – [email protected] help with your Bell helicopter? Episode 93: Issues Facing MRO Suppliers Panel Conversation at Kelowna MRO Conference
Welcome to the Vertical MRO Podcast, brought to you by HeliCASTS and in partnership with Vertical Plus.Recorded live at the Vertical MRO Conference in Kelowna and hosted by Jon Gray, this panel brings together voices from across the helicopter maintenance ecosystem to unpack the real issues facing MRO suppliers today—and how those challenges are reshaping the industry.Panelists include Marc Leduc of VIH Aerospace; Jasen Gerein of Heli-Welders Canada; Ketan Desai of Precision Aviation Group; Jeff Denomme of Alpine Aerotech; and Maria Aguirre of Airbus—representing operators, suppliers, distributors, and maintenance leadership from across the MRO community. The panel dives into the growing unpredictability of the supply chain, where shortages of even basic hardware and sudden manufacturing disruptions can derail maintenance events. When helicopters are already torn down, small missing parts can quickly become major operational and customer challenges.Communication emerges as a recurring theme, with panelists stressing the importance of transparency—whether coordinating with OEMs, planning maintenance further ahead, or managing customer expectations in an uncertain environment.Labor shortages and recruitment also take center stage, particularly the challenge of attracting and retaining the next generation of AMEs. Panelists discuss how investment in facilities, technology, culture, and work-life balance has become essential—not optional—for long-term competitiveness.Additional discussion touches on predictive maintenance, inventory strategy, tariffs, part-outs, and the role of technology in forecasting needs. The takeaway is clear: collaboration across the MRO ecosystem is no longer a nice-to-have, but a requirement for navigating today’s supply and labor realities.Special thanks to our sponsors, Alpine Aerotech, Precision Aviation Group and Anodyne Electronics Manufacturing.

Episode 92: The Pilot–Mechanic Advantage, Palm Beach Sheriff's Office Aviation Unit - Part II
Welcome to the Vertical MRO Podcast, brought to you by HeliCASTS and in partnership with Vertical Plus. This episode was recorded live on location at the Palm Beach Sheriff's Office Aviation Unit as part of the 2026 Blades of Valor tour. Hosts Jon Gray and Jack Schonely sit down with Matt Callander, an avionics technician serving the unit who also happens to be a pilot, to explore a perspective that bridges the cockpit and the hangar. In aviation, pilots and mechanics often operate in parallel worlds. One flies the mission. The other makes it possible. But when those worlds truly align, operational performance changes.Public safety aviation leaves no margin for disconnect. Hoist rescues, maritime operations, complex avionics systems, and mission equipment demand more than technical skill. They demand trust, communication, and a shared operational mindset. Matt brings a rare perspective shaped by both flight experience and maintenance leadership, offering insight into how pilot awareness influences troubleshooting, how maintenance realities shape operational decisions, and why respect between the cockpit and the hangar directly affects safety. This isn’t just a discussion about turning wrenches or logging hours. It’s about cultural alignment. It’s about how leadership sets the tone between departments. And it’s about why the strongest aviation programs are built where pilots and mechanics stop seeing themselves as separate roles and start operating as one team.Because in high-consequence aviation, synergy isn’t optional. Episode 90: Stability in a Volatile MRO World: Leasing, Data, and Maintenance | Adrienne Robinson - Part II
Welcome to the Vertical MRO Podcast, brought to you by HeliCASTS and in partnership with Vertical Plus.In this episode, Hosts Ronnie Ries and Howie Murray sit down with Adrienne Robinson, vice president of business development at Panterra Heli Support USA, for a grounded conversation on how leasing strategies, data, and maintenance realities intersect on the shop floor. With more than four decades in the helicopter industry, Adrienne brings a rare perspective that spans avionics, MRO, aircraft transactions, and long-term fleet planning. The discussion focuses on what these strategies actually mean for maintainers and maintenance leaders—especially those supporting small and mid-size operations. Adrienne breaks down how Power By the Hour (PBH) programs can reduce unexpected maintenance costs, stabilize parts access, and help teams plan work more effectively instead of constantly reacting to supply chain surprises. They also explore the rising cost of OEM parts, tariffs, and ongoing supply constraints, and why better use of HUMS data and information sharing can improve inspection planning, fault detection, and overall aircraft availability. Rather than technology for technology’s sake, the conversation centers on how data becomes useful when it supports real maintenance decisions.Throughout the episode, Adrienne emphasizes the value of simplicity, standardization, and strong relationships—with lessors, suppliers, and maintenance teams alike. For maintainers, the takeaway is clear: predictable maintenance environments don’t happen by accident—they’re built through smarter planning, better data, and realistic support structures. This episode offers practical insight for AMEs, DOMs, and maintenance managers looking to reduce downtime, manage risk, and keep aircraft flying in an increasingly complex MRO landscape.Special thanks to our sponsors, Metro Aviation, Precision Aviation Group and Robinson Helicopter.

Vertical MRO Alerts: By Bell - Ep 7: Corporate Leather Crew and Passenger Seat Covers Replacement
Welcome to Vertical MRO Alerts, presented by Bell!In this Alert, Product Support Engineering Manager Marc Dubé is joined by Sebastien Rousseau, Product Lead for the Bell 429, to walk operators through two service directives released simultaneously—a new Alert Service Bulletin (ASB 429-25-69) and an accompanying Operational Service Notice (OSN).These directives address non-conforming crew and passenger seat covers installed on certain Bell 429 aircraft. Marc and Sebastien explain how additional foam added during cosmetic rework impacted the energy-attenuation performance of some crew seats, prompting a required crew-seat replacement under the ASB. Passenger seats, which carry lower criticality, are handled separately under the OSN.The episode covers operator questions Bell has already received—including how third-party-modified seats are handled, what to expect regarding turnaround times, and why rework of passenger seats involves more logistical variables such as upholstery styles, stitching, colors, and custom configurations. They also discuss how operators can streamline the process by confirming interior renderings early and placing orders well ahead of the three-year compliance window. For full details, operators should always refer directly to the official Alert Service Bulletin.
