Tim is a 4-time member of the USA Olympic Team. He joins us this week to talk about his dogs and his love of bird hunting.

One of the wildest things that has happened through this podcast is the people I have got to meet. A few years ago I got a Instagram message from Paul Schommer I later found out after talking to him that he was a member of the USA Olympic Team. Now, I am thankful to call him a friend!  He has literally been back in the states from his second trip to the Olympics this winter. His second stop after being back from Italy was here in North Dakota for spring turkey season. We spend some time recapping his hunts this week. Spoiler alert.....he tagged out! We really spend a lot of time digging into the mental side of shooting. 

This weekend was absolutly AWESOME! It was great to be out exploring the Badlands with some great friends and oh yeah you bet we got a few birds!

Ryan and Jace Newmarker are a father/son Chukar hunting duo that hunt as hard for these Wild birds as anyone I know! Jace is now 12 and his smack talk has really reached a fever pitch! He loves giving the other guys in camp a hard time if they missed, but no one more than his uncle Todd. We talk about the Chukar hunting in Nevada this season compared to last season. Man! Chukar hunting in Nevada is a WILD adventure! Sure, the bird numbers arent what they were last year but they are still pretty good! On this weeks episode I am joined by two of my most adventurous hunting buddies, Dom Watts and Brent Kroll. Dom is a New Mexico native that lives in Alaska. He is a sheep hunting and bird hunting addict and is always down for an adventure in a new place.  Brent is a NAVHDA judge and hard core wild bird hunter. He spends most of his year in the forests of Michigan chasing ruffed grouse, but really wanted to get out of the woods and do some climbing for his first wild chukar hunt. We discuss our hunts while in Nevada. Huns, Valley Quail, and Chukar. We also talk about sheep hunting, back country ATV riding, and even archery hunting for Musk Ox in Alaska. He and I have spent countless days and more miles than I care to think about chasing birds from the artic circle to the mexican border and everywhere in between. But finally we have done it. Rusty and Me together have both managed somehow to hunt and harvest every upland bird species in north america TOGETHER.  Katie Willis and Kirk Adams helped make this possible.  In this episode we discuss how amazing valley quail are as a game bird. On this episode we continue our species specific series. Mountian Grouse in Montana is this weeks focus.  Primarily we talk about Blue Grouse but we do talk about both Spruce and Ruffed grouse also. George hasnt hunted them before but is very interested in them, so he asked Wess and Myself the questions that he was curious about and Wess and I did our best to answer.

About 7pm last night they removed the Public Land sale from the reconsiliation bill! This is a big win for those of us that enjoy hunting on this land. A HUGE thanks goes out to everyone that did their part in this fight. OnX Hunt deserves a huge thanks for putting their post out yesterday where they discovered it wasnt 500,000 acres set to be sold, but 1.5 million acres.   

Randy Newberg is a life long Hunter, trapper, and fisherman. He also has a long history of being one of the most outsporken public land advocates that we have. We talk about the history of public land and previous attempts to sell it off. We spend alot of time talking about the polititians that are pushing this agenda aswell as their previous voting records on this topic. We also talk about fishing on Fort Peck in Montana. 

Roger is one of the best fisherman I know! Hes the Owner of Schumann Fishing Guide Service based out of Minot North Dakota. When he called me and asked if I wanted to jump in the boat with him to go pitch jigs and place with his forward facing sonar I jumoed at the chance. Sadly, the fish werent as cooperative as they were the previous day. Fun was had anyway! The walleyes werent active but we caught enough Northern Pike and Smallmouth Bass tp keep us entertained. 

Warning! This episode is going to contain some adult content! Bray is a local rancher here in North Dakota and one of my good buddies.  We talk about hunter/ land owner relations from the land owner perspective. We try to figure out why nearly all of the private land is posted, unlike 20 years ago. We also discuss some Do's and Don'ts as to how and when to approach a landowner to get permission.

Ryan is the Director of conservation at Meateater, a public lands advocate, and on the board of directors of BHA, and host of Cal's Week In Review Podcast. Ryan and myself dive in to alot of the issues that we are facing in relation to public lands. Cal does a great job of breaking down all the issues that are going on. Then we switch gears and start talking about bird hunting and his dog, Snort.

Patrick Berry is the new President and CEO of Back Country Hunters and Anglers and a life long outdoorsman.  For those of you that are unfamiliar with BHA ( one of my favorite conservation groups) they are a passionate public land advocate and do a great job of tracking anti public land legislation. They also work on things that benifit all of us on a more local level. Such as stream clean up, fence removal, and habitat projects. I really hope you all enjoy this episode. Im sure I am not alone in struggling with the confusion that is going on right now in the political arena. Trying to figure out what is real and what isnt is a full time job. Thats why I was thrilled to sit down and talk some of it through with Patrick.
