Endings Lead to New Beginnings
Endings Lead to New BeginningsJess and Cathy discuss the circle of life—when one thing ends, a new beginning starts. They reflect on their careers—how there are different phases. Cathy grew into being an upper level competitor and that entailed going to Florida 8 weeks during the winter, renting a barn, being closer to her instructors that teach upper level competitors. She taught less, she didn’t have as much time for the business side of her work, and had less money. Now she says doesn’t miss competing, she has more time for her students, and has an expansive course design profession. Jess was not a professional with horses, but competed at the preliminary level for a lot of years. When motherhood came along, she didn’t want to compete as much. Her horse had retired. Now she rides just for the fun. Jess also talks about the sadness seeing this past week her old fruit and vegetable building had been torn down. There are always new things on the horizon to do and become!Theme song and host introduction. Jess and Cathy welcome listeners to There You Are, introduce themselves, and share what the show is about and who it's for. The Good Stuff and the Hard Stuff--always best when we are connected.
The Good Stuff and the Hard Stuff—always best when we are connected.Jess and Cathy share their highs and lows from the past weekend. The “Best Weekend of the Year”—the Kentucky Three-Day Event was this past weekend. It is a five star event—bringing the best riders from the world. Cathy is involved with her expertise in course design, helping repair any footing and jumps that might get compromised during the cross country phase. She also did color commentating for the show jumping on Sunday for anyone that bought headsets to listen. Jess had good friends in for it—her riding buddies from 55 years ago, whom she has remained close. The low was losing their little Boston Terrier, Tessa on Sunday morning. They go on to say how important each of their dogs have been their whole lives, commemorating different chapters of their lives. It is all so rich, this love we have for people and for our animals, and so the grief is felt and it too, is rich and necessary. Let us know what you think—subscribe, share and leave a comment! Growing Up Everywhere-perspective is everything!
Growing up Everywhere! Perspective is Everything!Cathy claims that growing up with her Dad as a Navy pilot and moving every two or three years was a wonderful adventure! In this episode, she recounts hopscotching different places in the country, including three years in Northern Ireland. Her Mom got into training ponies as a little girl, and the stint in Ireland gave her certification teaching English riding. After they returned to the States, Cathy still left handed, the kids were connected to the United States Pony Club. This gave them a sense of belonging whenever they moved to a new place. Cathy moved in 1978 to Lexington Kentucky and has been planted here ever since! Theme song and host introduction.
