We nod when someone explains something complicated, laugh at jokes we did not get, and say “yeah, exactly” even when our minds are completely blank.We pretend to understand adulthood, even though most of us are just figuring things out as we go. We pretend to know what we are doing with our careers, relationships, money, and future. We pretend to understand why people behave the way they do, why some friendships fade, and why certain things happen at the worst possible time.Sometimes we even pretend to understand ourselves.
