His Steadfast Love Endures Forever
Our older episodes might be a little cringy (to our own ears at least!) but the Word of God holds true, regardless. Since Elizabeth is STILL silent with a terrible case of laryngitis, Monika brings it back to this encouraging teaching through Psalm 118:1-4. God's hesed love is merciful, given freely, even when we are in the most pathetic state. WAY better than a box of chocolates - it never runs out and you always know what you're going to : steadfast love. ________________________ When this is the day discouragement, frustration, sadness, anger, loneliness, jealousy, bitterness, or whatever other sinful or challenging emotions surface in our relationships, we can look to Christ and his steadfast love, which endures forever. We rejoice in that truth, always! ________________________ Resources: Visit our shop for super one-of-a-kind designs that promote gospel centered conversations. Sending Good Thoughts | Loving Others in Trials
Have you ever been in the midst of pain, and someone's words to you caused more hurt, instead of help? We are called to season our words with grace, as Colossians 4:6 instructs, so that we know how to respond to each person. What we say, and how we say it, truly matters. It has the power to heal or to hurt. We speak Scripture to encourage others, but we must use it appropriately, as Ephesians 4:29 teaches, tailoring our words to fit the situation. When unsure of how to respond in a conversation, it's wise to pray for guidance. And if nothing comes to mind, sometimes the best thing to do is simply listen. Often, listening is more comforting than any words we could speak. If we are wise, our words will bring life and refreshment to those who hear them. ________________________ When this is the day someone in your life is hurting, remember the power of your words. Proverbs 12:18 warns, "There is one whose rash words are like sword thrusts, but the tongue of the wise brings healing." Let your words be wise, gentle, and full of grace. Speak with sweetness and care, as Proverbs 16:24 says, "Gracious words are like a honeycomb, sweetness to the soul and health to the body." ________________________ Resources: When You See Box Set Board book by Becki Dudley Visit our shop for super one-of-a-kind designs that promote gospel centered conversations. Astronauts, Doctors, and Lawyers, Oh my! | Training Up Children
What if one of the most influential things you ever do is happening right now in the daily work of raising your children? In this episode, we take a clear and practical look at Proverbs 22:6 and what it means to train children up in the way they should go. Solomon wrote Proverbs to teach his children, reminding us that parents are the primary disciplers, while grandparents, church leaders, and mentors come alongside to reinforce truth. We discuss how children are shaped and imprinted over time through consistent teaching, godly example, correction, and a steady diet of God's Word. This encouraging conversation reminds us that Proverbs 22:6 is a principle - not a guarantee - but faithful parenting is never wasted, no matter the outcome. ________________________ When this is the day you're tired, you have cramps, you have too much to do, and you just want to phone in the day, remember that kids are a gift from the Lord, Psalm 127. And we must steward that gift well. 1 Peter 4:10 As each one has received a gift, employ it in serving one another as good stewards of the manifold grace of God ________________________ Resources: The Remarkable Bible Word Search Book Visit our shop for super one-of-a-kind designs that promote gospel centered conversations. Give me this Day What I Want | Praying in Parenthood
Prayer is another principle of "one anothering" in Scripture. We often think of prayer as simply getting on our knees to ask God for something. But this word for prayer means more than that - it means to seek, ask, beg, or implore. The prayer described in this passage is fervent and continuous, actively bringing about change. The person seeking the Lord is a righteous man who loves God, knows he is a sinner, and believes in the work of Christ on the cross, following Him faithfully. The powerful prayer of this righteous man is very effective. James gives us the example of Elijah, who prayed for the rain to stop and then, three and a half years later, prayed for it to return. We must diligently pray for others in this same way. It brings encouragement and refreshment to the soul of the person for whom we pray - and to our own hearts. ________________________ When this is the day you want to righteously bring up your children in the fear and admonition of the Lord, then get so deeply acquainted with the Word of God that it is never far from your lips. Pray for obedience to God's law; that is His will for you as a believer. ________________________ Resources: Face to Face: Praying the Scriptures for Intimate Worship Paperback by Kenneth D. You're Invited | Hospitality
Understanding what hospitality means in hosting is so important. Not because we need to be women who know how to whip up a gorgeous charcuterie tray and have the right conversational layout in our living rooms, but because of the very opposite - we are commanded to be hospitable, and we should be able to do that well within our homes. One meaning, many applications. Today we're going to zoom in on the application of hospitality in hosting. 1 Peter 4:9 - Show hospitality to one another without grumbling. Romans 12:13b - Seek to show hospitality. ________________________ When this is the day you feel like you aren't rooted in your church, invite someone over to share a meal. When this is the day you feel on the outskirts of the church body, invite someone over to share a meal. When this is the day you wish you had more friends at church, invite someone over to share a meal. You get the point. Inviting someone over and sharing a meal with them, is the best way to show hospitality, and a great way to work towards knowing and being known, seeing and being seen. ________________________ Resources: Wait: Waiting on God in a World that Won't Wait by Smedly Yates What's Good? Speaking Christianese | Terminology
Do you ever use words without really knowing what they mean? Do you speak "Christianese"? It's important to study the historical and cultural background of words so we can interpret them correctly and understand what we're truly saying. Yet, like the imperfect and sometimes careless people we are, we often use words based on their connotations rather than their true meanings. Today, we're going to look at four words that many of us have spoken - and certainly sung - to better understand their full significance. Our hope is that the next time we use them, they will carry deeper meaning for us, and reflect better, the glory of our Savior. The four words we'll explore are: Gloria, Hallelujah, Amen, and Bless. ________________________ When this is the day you end your prayer with "Amen," remember that you are declaring your belief that your words are heard by the one true and powerful God. You are affirming His character and trusting Him to hear and answer according to His will. You are not simply finishing a prayer, and it is not about naming and claiming everything you want to happen. "Amen" is an act of worship to the righteous Creator and Ruler of all. ________________________ Resources: Worship: The Ultimate Priority by John MacArthur Visit our shop for super one-of-a-kind designs that promote gospel centered conversations. Blessings all Over the Place | Hobby Lobby Signs
Hanging scripture on your walls is a wonderful thing to do. But we have to be veeeery careful about which scriptures we hang, as many of the Bible verses that make it to print, are taken so out of context, that it would be foolish to hang them on our walls! Today we look at one of those verses in one of our favorite series, Hobby Lobby Signs. I bet you've seen this classic sign, plenty of times: Deut 28:6 Blessed shall you be when you come in, and blessed shall you be when you go out. But standing alone, it probably doesn't mean what you think it does. Join Elizabeth Giles and Monika Walker as they work through this scripture in it's Biblical context. ________________________ When this is the day you're looking for some inspirational words or scriptures to hang on your walls, be very cautious. Let's hang words on our walls that give the whole picture - and be ready to rightly share the context - and the gospel - with everyone who comes in and goes out of our homes. ________________________ Resources: The Treasure: Ancient Story Ever New of Jesus and His Church Hardcover – by Marty Machowski (Author), Flavia Sorrentino (Illustrator) Visit our shop for super one-of-a-kind designs that promote gospel centered conversations. Pickled Beets | Stewarding Thoughts in Disappointment
We can control what we think. It's hard, and we often tell ourselves, "I can't help it," but we can help it. We cannot dwell on sinful thoughts and meditate on Christ at the same time. So we discipline ourselves, exercise self-control, and choose to dwell on the gospel and on Christ instead. Paul gives us specific principles for doing this. We have the Spirit to guide our thinking. We have the truth of God Himself and our Savior, Christ. We have Scripture to help us think rightly. Take your thoughts captive to the truth of Christ, God, and Scripture. It's especially easy in times of disappointment to fall into wrong thinking, when emotions are running high. In those moments, we meditate on the worthiness, truth, loveliness, righteousness, and holiness of Christ. ________________________ When this is the day you expected one thing and you get something different, think on Christ. Draw your strength from Him—from His Word, from prayer, from your fellow believers. And think on Him with confidence in His providence and with thankfulness in your heart. ________________________ Resources: Happy are the Pure - Sermon by Pastor Bret Hastings Visit our shop for super one-of-a-kind designs that promote gospel centered conversations. Hysterical Brain Tumors | Steadfastness
Patient endurance - that is steadfastness. You can't grow steadfastness without trials. In the Bible, we see God use suffering to teach and test Job, and Job remained steadfast and grew in his faith and understanding of the greatness of God. We can too. As Christians, we MUST. ________________________ When this is the day the trial proves painful, prolonged, and unexpected - even when it feels profoundly unfair, and even when it is merely a small, first-world problem - stand firm in Christ. Remain steadfast. Ask God to stir in you a deep desire to take refuge in Him. Steadfast Trust: Navigating Life with a Brain Tumor
Paulette's vibrancy faded - laughter gone, simple tasks exhausting, the world distant. What looked like deepening depression was a large benign brain tumor silently pressing for years. Through mystery, misdiagnosis, Rob's steadfast care, devoted family, two brain surgeries, surgical error, infection, a car accident, reconstructive procedures, and even titanium discs turned into earrings, God's good and sovereign hand guided every step. Through it all, Paulette and Rob Hasting remained steadfast in the Lord. Paulette's personality and joy returned after surgery. Today they embrace their new normal - vision challenges, a hollow forehead, annual scans - with gratitude, praising God for trials that deepened their faith, their marriage, and their trust in His providence. "This is the life God has ordained for us. We accept it, embrace it, and glorify Him in it." A testimony of hope, endurance, and unwavering trust in God's sovereign plan. You don't want to miss this episode with special guests, Rob and Paulette Hastings, who share their story in the hopes that it will encourage others to be steadfast in the Lord, through whatever trial he has ordained in their lives today. Your Own Stench | Overlooking Offenses
God, through Christ, covered all our offenses against Him, and there are many! Why would we think we could or should do differently? It was His glory to do so, and the same is true for us. To cover another's offense is to love them as Christ loves us. 1 Corinthians 13:7 says that love "bears all things, believes all things [assumes the best], hopes all things, endures all things." The opposite of this is repeating the offense to others or rehearsing it in our minds, stirring up our emotions. That causes division between friends! That is not how God treated our horrendous offenses against Him. As imitators of Christ, we must follow His example, not our flesh. ________________________ When this is the day you are offended - in any way, big or small - do as Monika taught and use discretion. Haste leads to sin. Use discretion even in deciding which feelings you allow to reign. Be patient and prayerful, even in those quick moments when your temper flares and your emotions grow hot. Remember how the Lord deferred His anger - and He has perfect and righteous anger, while we do not! God told us that our mind is kept in perfect peace when it is fixed on Christ. Fully trusting Him, thinking on Him, with our mind, will, and emotions all fixed on our glorious Lord and Savior. ________________________ Resources: Wait: Waiting on God in a World that Won't Wait by Smedly Yates An Easy Guide to Missing Heaven by Don Green Visit our shop for super one-of-a-kind designs that promote gospel centered conversations. Ga-goose-mas-ing | Grumbling and Disputing
We must never, ever grumble. Grumbling starts with what we dislike or reject. We nurse it, replay it, let it spin in our minds - fueling argument and rebellion. That only breeds more sin. Because of the gospel, believers have zero excuse to grumble—none. Paul tells the Philippians: in light of the gospel, work out your salvation without grumbling or disputing. Stay faithful. Shine brightly in a crooked, dark world. The contrast between believers and the world should be stark. ________________________ When this is the day you see discontentment, grumbling, complaining, murmuring, and disputes in your life - via thoughts or words - examine your heart as you go before the Lord and consider what your perspective on any little issue is. Is your perspective one that trusts that God works all things together for good for those who love God and who are called according to His purpose (Romans 8:28), or is your heart out of order, placing your own desires as greater than the almighty, good, holy, and sovereign Creator of the universe? ________________________ What's Good: A quote from John Bunyan in his book Grace Abounding: "I still find to this day this abomination in my heart… I am apt to complain because I have no more, and yet am ready to misuse what I have." Monster-in-Love | In-Law Relationships
Honoring your parents doesn't stop when you turn eighteen. Obedience may end, but honor lasts a lifetime. We are called to honor both our father and our mother - and that includes your husband's parents - your mother-in-law and father-in-law. Your husband is commanded to do the same. Together, you are to work to honor your parents. But what if they aren't believers, or if they are difficult to honor? Romans reminds us that, as much as it depends on us, we should live at peace with everyone. That includes challenging in-laws, if you have them. In our relationships with our in-laws, we must strive for peace - both when we have offended them and when they have offended us. Our responsibility is to work diligently and humbly to resolve conflicts and maintain peace. ________________________ When this is the day you find yourself in conflict with your mother or father-in-law, remember that you cannot change them - you are accountable to the Lord for your own ways. Your ways, not theirs. So instead of focusing on their sins - and they may be many or grievous - turn your attention to your own heart. Prayerfully examine yourself and see if there is anything you need to repent of; we almost always find something. There may be sins for which you need to ask their forgiveness, and there are almost certainly sinful thoughts and attitudes for which you should seek forgiveness from the Lord. ________________________ Resources: Visit our shop for super one-of-a-kind designs that promote gospel centered conversations. Be Cool | Fear of Man
Paul was wrongly accused of seeking to please men, but it was the Judaizers who compromised the Gospel out of fear of man. Paul feared God, not people, and boldly upheld the truth of salvation by faith in Christ alone. Elizabeth Giles and Monika Walker explore how the fear of man distorts truth - and how we're called to live to please God, instead of man. ________________________ When this is the day you find yourself convicted by your sinful fear of man, take heart. We are not without hope. We are not slaves to sin—we are slaves to Christ. And because Christ conquered sin on the cross, we can come to Him in sorrow, confess our sin, renew our minds with the truth of His Word, and put on righteousness. ________________________ Resources: "Every basic cult is built on ignoring the context." - Howard Hendricks "A Case Study in the Conscience" by Pastor Travis Allen on Pillar of Truth Visit our shop for super one-of-a-kind designs that promote gospel centered conversations. She Reads Bologna | Bible Translations
Christians are called not merely to hear the Word of God but to live it out faithfully, as James declares: "Be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves" (James 1:22). The Scriptures pierce the depths of the human heart, exposing our true motives while judging our thoughts, rebuking our sins, encouraging our spirits, and exhorting us toward righteous living and unwavering faith. To fully grasp this transformative truth, we must rely on faithful translations that honor the original intent. Modern distortions and manipulations can subtly alter meanings, paving the way for misleading doctrines that stray from God's unchanging revelation. So what Bible translation should you use, and which translations should you run from? Rejoicing Worms | Attributes of God
When the world feels overwhelmingly dark and chaotic, one of the best things we can do is turn our focus to the one unchanging Maker of heaven and earth - our holy Lord God. Join Elizabeth and Monika as they explore four attributes of God, thinking deeply about what these characteristics truly mean, so we can rightly meditate on His sovereignty, mercy, providence, and lovingkindness. ________________________ When this is the day your trials abound - when this is the day you're filled with great sorrow, worry, anxiety, or fear - meditate on the lovingkindness of God. It will fill you with great joy to reflect on His lovingkindness. It will temper your sorrow with peace and renew your hope in the Lord. It will remind you to trust Him - not to fear the trial you're currently enduring or the future trials that may come. You cannot fear the future when your confidence is fully in Him. And how could you not have full confidence in a God who looks down on us - sinful worms - and sees us through the blood of Christ, giving us access to Himself through the work of His Son? Smoke and Mirrors | Lying
Lying, rooted in hatred, is the opposite of love. It destroys trust and unity within the body of Christ. As those who have died to sin, believers are called to speak the truth in love. Truth-telling isn't just about honesty - it's an act of love that builds up others. Lying tears down, but truth in love builds up. Join Elizabeth and Monika as they filter the sin of lying through a biblical lens, considering what lying is, how to put it off, and how to put on a righteous habit in it's stead. Ephesians 4:25 Therefore, laying aside falsehood, speak truth each one of you with his neighbor, for we are members of one another. ________________________ When this is the day you struggle with the habit of lying, examine your heart. He is | Attributes of God
We must rehearse the character of God in our minds constantly. We must think on his attributes. That is the good, holy, excellent things we should have our minds on. But it reeeeeeally helps if you know the ACTUAL meaning of these attributes. Having that deeper understanding, will give you such a deeper comfort. ________________________ When this is the day you feel hopeless and discouraged, you must remember that God is powerful. Perhaps you're feeling discouraged about your own sin, or the sin of your husband or children, or you're watching loved ones reject the Lord or act in foolish ways. You must turn your eyes to Christ and think on Him. He is all powerful, and that should give us great comfort. ________________________ Resources: Systematic Theology by Louis Berkof Hoopla - digital library Visit our shop for super one-of-a-kind designs that promote gospel centered conversations. Lullabies and broken cries | Infertility
Infertility is one of life's greatest trials, and brings great sorrow to those who walk that road. When we remember that God is perfectly sovereign over all things, we can find peace in blaming God - but not in a negative way. The peace comes from acknowledging that God is God, and we are not, and we can rest in the fact that he is sovereign, he's in control, and he is good and faithful. So that must be enough. That IS enough. ________________________ When this is the day you question WHY you haven't been able to conceive or carry a pregnancy to term, when this is the day you want to give up praying, when this is the day you feel unseen and feel that your prayers are unanswered - look away from your grief, look away from your sorrow. Look towards the God of the Universe who loves you and DOES have a good purpose for you. Rehearse Isaiah 55:8-9 in your mind, to remember how small you are and how big God is, yet he numbers your every hair. Isaiah 55:8-9 For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, declares the Lord. Eyes Locked, Brains Off | Screen Time for Children
Wisdom is an attribute of God. Because we want to cultivate wisdom in our homes, the Word of God must be central there. We strive to keep wisdom before our own eyes - but what about our children? Has the iPad or a kiddie show played babysitter in your home? The world works hard to make wisdom vanish from our sight and that of our children, replacing it with cheap entertainment. How do we teach, guide, and model for our children, that the true treasure we should be seeking, far outshines the little dopamine hits they get from screen time? ________________________ When this is the day you long to model well, how to use technologies in a righteous manner, and you think the only possible solution is to throw away your phone and TV, video games, and ipad, don't worry! You can keep them! It doesn't have to be that extreme! The real solution still isn't found there. It's in exchanging the thrills we get from screen time, with thrills from the Lord. ________________________ Resources: Thru the Bible with J. Bikinis, beer, and building up | Christian Liberty
Freedom! But freedom for what? Freedom to bring glory to God and benefit others? Or freedom to do as you please, under the guise of Christian Liberty. Galatians 5:13 says - For you were called to freedom, brothers; only do not turn your freedom into an opportunity for the flesh, but through love serve one another. ________________________ When this is the day you wonder if you can or should do something under the name of Christian liberty, ask yourself this - is it building up? If it's not, don't do it. Christian liberty is proactive, not reactive. Our desire must be to build others up, instead of seeking our own fleshly desires, even when those desires aren't sinful. ________________________ Resources: Temptation and Sin - The 6th Volume of "The Works of John Owen" Visit our shop for super one-of-a-kind designs that promote gospel centered conversations. Speeding Grannies | Forgiveness
To be unforgiving and a believer IS mutually exclusive. It's not compatible. If you're a believer, you must be a forgiver. As you have been forgiven, so must you forgive. This isn't a controversial opinion. This is pretty standard stuff that we think most believers agree with. But when you examine your heart - is it true? Or.. do you have a heart of unforgiveness? Which is really, a heart of bitterness. Do you hold onto slights? Do you get offended and let that offense - whether real or perceived - shape your opinions of that person who offended you? Or how you interact with them - or perhaps how you go out of your way NOT to interact with them? That's NOT actually being forgiving. ________________________ When this is the day you are tempted to bring up someone else's sin to them - sin that has already been forgiven and reconciled - remind yourself that the very act of bringing up the sin, is sinful in itself. In fact, when you see someone who has sinned against you, and you are tempted to think of that sin - you have to be prepared to fight a quick and vicious battle in your mind. Mortify the thought. Murder it. Or as we like to say, murdify! Not the person! The thoughts! The unforgiving thoughts! Be prepared with a battle plan. A literal scripture on hand to slay that beast of unforgiveness. ________________________ Resources: Believer's Bible Commentary: Second Edition Mortification of Spin Podcast by Carl Trueman and Todd Pruitt Visit our shop for super one-of-a-kind designs that promote gospel centered conversations. Preaching Pragmatic Propaganda | The Church Search
First, set the mood: Dim the lights, cue the emotional beats, and start the smoke machine. Add in a few strobe lights and the scene is set for a rock concert - no wait, I mean for church! Ah, the pragmatic churches will do anything to get you in the door. Grocery Pickup and Chapped Lips | Money
How do we become a believer who is a slave to money? It doesn't happen overnight. It doesn't happen even for lack of financial education or econmic understanding. It doesn't happen for lack of budget or even because you bought a nice car or a big fancy house. It happens because of sin in our hearts, growing and taking root. Discontentment. Lack of thankfulness. Laziness. Greed. Selfishness. Lack of trust in God. Putting our trust in the temporal - in the earthly, instead of in Christ. In the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus established the standard of the law and taught His disciples a vital principle: no one can serve two masters. To think otherwise is to deceive ourselves. Join Elizabeth Giles and Monika Walker as they look at money through a biblical lens. ________________________ When this is the day you want what you want and you want it now - remember that you are a slave to Christ, not to Jeff Bezos. Put off whatever sins of the heart have you longing for the earthly goods, renew your mind with scripture, and put on contentment. 1 Timothy 6:9–10 9 But those who desire to be rich fall into temptation, into a snare, into many senseless and harmful desires that plunge people into ruin and destruction. 10 For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evils. Passenger Princess | Sanctification
Sanctification is becoming more like Christ, but it isn't something we can do on our own. We are sinners by nature, so sanctification starts with humility. We must have a heart that longs to obey God, and slowly, over times, we will grow more and more like the one we were created in the image of. There isn't a nook in our souls that we want to keep for ourselves. What does sanctification look like in the lives of first world women? Join Elizabeth and Monika and they dicuss the dotrine of sanctification. ________________________ When this is the day you feel like everyone is growing in sanctification except for you, don't let discouragment take over. That only leads to naval gazing, an inward focus doesn't help us shake off those feelings. There's nothing good in me apart from Christ, so what good can it do me to stare at myself? We become what we behold. When we just look at our sin, and focus on our discouragement over it, we find ourselves perpetuating that sin again! And then growing in greater discouragement! And then continuing that sin we hate so much, even more! And growing in greater discouragement! Instead, behold the Lord. Study who he is. His goodness, his mercy, his holiness, his righteousness. Study scripture and look to the cross - your sins were already paid for and what Jesus did was enough. ________________________ Resources: The Treasure of David by Charles Spurgeon. Idols Made of LVP | Idols
Idol factories. An idol is ANYTHING - aaaaanything - that captures our hearts, our time, our attention, our minds, more than God. It can even be a GOOD thing! That's what makes us so prone to churning out little idols in our hearts and minds. Fear, safety, health, finances, relationships, friendships, work, hobbies, family, the idols just keep on coming, and before we've even considered it a sin, we've already committed treason against a righteous and holy God. Rack, Shack and Benny had the right idea - bowing only to Christ. Join us as we learn from them today. ________________________ When this is the day you find yourself creating idols in your heart, repent! We are Christs. We belong to him. Rage Rooms and Pillow Fights | Anger
If it walks like a duck and quacks like a duck, it must be a duck. Anger is the same, yet we try to sweep away the sin by giving it other names. Righteous anger nearly always gives way to sinful anger, within seconds. Anger is the result of sinful desires, ruling our hearts. What are we to do with the feeling? How do we contain it, eradicate it, mortify it? Meditation and yoga? The world has tons of advice in managing it, but the Bible tells us to "put to death the practices of the body" so that we might live (Romans 8:13) - that's telling us to eradicate the sin completely, not just manage the expression of it. Join Elizabeth and Monika as they explore anger, through a bible lens. ________________________ When this is the day you're mad (annoyed, irritated, disappointed, frustrated, etc), don't take the worldly advice of meditation and yoga. Instead, meditate on scripture. Meditate on the merciful God who saved a sinner like you. Instead of doing downard dog in yoga, put on the posture of prayer. Get on your knees. Close your eyes. And go before the Lord in praise and supplicaiton, bringing him all your requests, and laying your sins at his feet, seeking forgiveness, renewing your mind with his truth, and asking him to give you the strength to put on new habits of joy, contentedness, and patience. ________________________ Resources: ANGER, ANXIETY AND FEAR: A Biblical Perspective by Stuart Scott Anger: Calming Your Heart by Robert D. Pesky Little Scriptures | Marriage
Nobody likes being bossed around, especially a wife! Those pesky little scriptures in James and Colossians that tell wives to submit to their husbands are outdated and meant to roll your eyes at and ignore. At least, that's what our culture tells us. And even wives who faithfully adhere to the accuracy and sufficiency of scripture can struggle with the command to submit to a sinful husband, even more so if their husband is unsaved or unkind. Join Elizabeth and Monika as they explore the often challenging, but always righteous command, of submitting to one's own husband. James 4:7a - Submit yourselves therefore to God. Colossians 3:18 Wives, submit to your husbands, as is fitting in the Lord. ________________________ When this is the day you consider yourself a wife who submits because you would never make a big decision without your husband's consent, prayerfully examine your daily conversations and the position of your heart. The pastors who scribble down a sermon on a napkin, should toss that sucker where it belongs: in the trash. Discernment isn't just about figuring out what's true and what's not. Some things are so clear and super easy to spot. But what takes true discernment, is knowing the difference between what's right, and what's not quite right. Michelle Lesley of A Word Fitly Spoken podcast joins us for this episode, as we discuss how to discern a false teachers and grow in discernment. Why does it sound like Elizabeth just called Monika an "older woman"? Welp, that was not intended—because that cutie pie is far too young for that phrase. What a terrible friend! (hehe) And yet, we invite you to listen and learn with both of them about what it means to be a friend. That starts with love, which is both defined and modeled by Christ. Murders that happen here don't get solved | Discipleship
Discipleship is kinda like being someone's Google Maps for life. You help them navigate the twists and turns, giving guidance when they're feeling lost, and cheering for them every time they "arrive." You're their go-to for directions, but they're the one doing the driving. In a believer's life, both discipling and being discipled is an ongoing occurence, and it's not just suggested that we go about it, but commanded by the God we serve. ________________________ When this is the day you're feeling lost, frustrated, or like you're just spinning your wheels, look at who you are imitating. This is the Day... Rejoice!
Chaotic. Exhausting. Heartbreaking. Joyful. It's true that life is hard. But it's also true that God is good. Cappuccino, smoke machines, skinny jeans, high top sneakers, rock concerts every Sunday, and the hippest slang woven into a motivational speech, where the "communicator" reads a verse or two from the New Living Translation in the midst of his motivational speech: that's the stuff crummy churches are made of. Peace in a Pill | Anxiety
Anxiety isn't a disorder. It is distrust. How easy it is to become distracted and consumed by the cares of this world, until our concerns have completely obscured our view of God! Instead of casting our cares upon the Lord, we focus on them until anxiety reigns. As with all things, God knows our sinful tendencies and in loving care for our souls, He gives us clear instructions on how to turn from anxiety and put on thankfulness. Philippians 4:6-7 Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. ________________________ When this is the day you are consumed with anxiety, first turn to prayer. Even if you don't feel like it, pray anyway. Then read the Bible and pray some more. We pray because he tells us to, and we love to obey him. Prayer changes us. A Crappy Episode | Conflict
Conflict is inevitable. But just because it's inevitable, doesn't mean it has to be sinful. Conflict actually gives us the opportunity to practice being peacemakers, which is to put into practice, the head knowledge we have about acting righteously. But that can ONLY occur when we have one focus: to glorify God. ________________________ When this is the day that strife, disputing, and discord are running rampant, and you want to judge rightly without being critical, use scripture as your compass to determine the standard. Strive to model the attributes of God: love, mercy, compassion, and patience. Only then will you be prepared to judge righteously. ________________________ Resources: The Peacemaker: A Biblical Guide to Resolving Personal Conflict, a book by Ken Sande Praying for the Next Generation (Family Discipleship), a book by Sally Michael Visit our shop for super one-of-a-kind designs that promote gospel centered conversations. Dirty Aesthetic | Peace in Chaos
We get these grand ideas of how we think life should be but it rarely plays out like we want it to. In return, our hearts grow weary as we fret and stew on it, trying to take control of things out of our control, fixing our hearts and minds on the problem at hand, instead of on the one who is sovereign over every problem. Inclining our hearts away from ourselves, and towards the living God who provides our every breath, is the only way to relieve that overwhelmed burden. How do we incline our hearts towards Him? By giving thanks. Thanking God realigns our heart to worship, instead of settling into a rut of self indulgent pride. ________________________ When this is the day that chaos reigns, give thanks to God. It's his will for you to do so (1 Thessalonians). In the midst of every trial, in whatever chaos God has in store for you, no matter how inconviencied you are, how frustrated you are, how heart broken you are - give thanks to God. ________________________ Resources: Visit our shop for super one-of-a-kind designs that promote gospel centered conversations. Pretty Poison | Beauty and Sin
The meticulous craftsmanship that went into your makeup routine on Sunday, is nothing compared to the care, precision, and power that went into creating your life. Even when we jab our foreheads with poison, layer on concealer, and squeeze into spanks, our outward appearance does nothing for our souls. Psalm 139:13-16 reveals a breathtaking picture of God intimately knitting us together. Join Elizabeth Giles and Monika Walker as they discuss botox, fillers, makeup, and the sin and Christian liberty in it all. ________________________ When this is the day your self esteem is through the floor, consider who you should be esteeming (hint: it's not yourself). Does your desire for beauty outweigh your worship for being fearfully and wonderfully made? Consider which concept occupies your thoughts more. ________________________ Resources: The Joy of Fearing God by Jerry Bridges Found: God's Will by John Macarthur Visit our shop for super one-of-a-kind designs that promote gospel centered conversations. Ya can't photoshop your soul | Beauty & Sin
Photoshopping: A sin? A blessing? Christian liberty? Why does it even matter? Our outward appearance has never been more on display than in this age of social media. One minute you're erasing a zit, and the next you're nearly unrecognizable perfection, ready to bask in the worship of online "likes" and praise. For professing Christians, all things must be filtered through a Biblical lens, and that includes the use of photoshop. As 1 Samuel 16:7 tells us, man looks at the outward appearance, but God looks at the heart. So what does photo editing reveal about your heart? Join Elizabeth Giles and Monika Walker as they discuss what photo editing reveals about our hearts. ________________________ When this is the day you post an image online, consider who will be glorified in it - Christ, or yourself? ________________________ Resources: The Age of Opportunity by Paul David Tripp ________________________ Resources: Visit our shop for super one-of-a-kind designs that promote gospel centered conversations. Love in a time of War | Meet Elizabeth Giles
Once upon a time… and the fairytale ended there. But God wrote a story that was better than any fable, because every trial, heartache, and lament, pointed Elizabeth to Christ and his glory, teaching her endurance, producing in her a spiritual strength, the kind that knocks you on your knees in prayer. As His ways are not our ways, nor His thoughts our thoughts (Isaiah 55:8-9), God's sovereign design caused Elizabeth to grow in steadfastness, even while her husband grew harder of heart. But God, being rich in mercy... ________________________ When this is the day you're growing weary - weary of an unequally yoked marriage or unsaved children or loved ones, do not be discouraged. God is near to the broken hearted, and His sovereign will is perfect and good. He will quiet the discontented murmuring of your heart when you trust in Him. No matter what the day brings, His comfort will be enough, even if your circumstances don't change on this earth. Pray without ceasing. ________________________ Resources: Trusting God in Trying Times by Don Green The Secret Jewel of Christian Contentment by Jeremiah Burroughs Visit our shop for super one-of-a-kind designs that promote gospel centered conversations.
