Throwing it Around

Despite being a team that is constantly riddled with either injuries or players struggling to produce satisfactory results, the Atlanta Braves have found themselves leading the NL East alongside leading in other statistical categories in 2026. After such a terrible start last year, they've turned a 180 and caught some people by surprise with the start they've gotten out to. With the lack of any huge offseason moves to bolster the roster, would you blame anyone if they expected a slow start? That is why they can rightfully be dubbed logic defiers.

We are in the middle of some action-packed softball right now. The NCAA softball Super Regionals are ongoing and are the ultimate proving grounds for who the best team in the country is going to be. No single fan can say that the energy and competition isn't top-tier. Everything is on the line, and we're along for the ride. So the only thing to ask is this...Who will be the queens of softball in 2026? It's going to be a dog fight. Strap in and enjoy what will be a summer packed full of amazing softball.

In this long episode, I had the pleasure of catching up with a good friend of mine. John Byrd and I sat down for a little over 2 hours to talk about his success with his barbecue food truck/trailer, the upcoming Crossfit Games Semifinals/20th Anniversary of the Games in California, the Georgia Bulldogs football teams thoughts & expectations, and how impressed we are with the current overall performance of the Atlanta Braves. So, set aside some time to learn where you can get some delicious food and get hyped for some huge upcoming events in this vast world of sports.

Baseball season is upon us once again! Spring Training is nearing its end, while the World Baseball Classic is as action-packed as ever. As Opening Day inches closer, Braves fans are eager for another season to get under way. There's a bit of optimism mixed with a feeling of unfinished business stirring about. The injury bug bit the team very early on and has kept taking bites, so that's an early hurdle for this team to jump. Without further ado, sit down with Jacob Mullis and I as we give our take on what we believe 2026 could shape up to be.

Dodge County High School went out over the offseason and installed a new name at the top of the baseball totem pole. Former Indian Matt Smith is now the head coach in Eastman and is looking to bring some notoriety back to the program. Matt was one of the best to come through the program, so he brings a plethora of knowledge with him. Will they see immediate improvement? That remains to be seen. The mood is optimistic. First pitch is right around the corner, so tune in to learn more about Matt and his plans for his hometown baseball team in 2026.

Hello again! I'm back at it again with some Dodge County football news, and it comes in the form of a season recap from their QB Kain Mincey. He and I sat down on what was a cold, very rainy evening in Eastman. That didn't stop us from chopping it up about a sport we both share a love for. The main topic of discussion was to be a recap of the 2025 season where they fell short of expectations. Yes, that includes their own, but we couldn't move along until the listeners who didn't know Kain were clued in to who they were hearing from. Tag along with Kain and I as he recaps his personal & athletics life alongside giving his thoughts on what went right and what went wrong for the Indians.

It's always best to end something on a better note than how it all got started. The Lady Indians softball team in Dodge County was sitting at 0-6 when I last spoke with head coach Blakelyn Cook. Tune in to hear her talk about how they were able to turn things around and punch a playoffs ticket when it didn't seem like it was "in the cards".

Gabbie Haas, the former shortstop for the Middle Georgia St. Lady Knights joins me in this episode to talk about how her final season on the team wrapped up. We also dive into her sports career moving in different direction. She's back as a graduate assistant coach alongside former teammate Madisyn Riggins while also taking the beginning steps of a professional baseball career in the newly created Women's Professional Baseball League. We talk about the history you may not know about women in baseball and how she loved baseball before she ever got involved in softball.

A couple weeks ago, I was able to meet back up with Coach Clint Sanders, the head coach of Dodge County High School's flag football team. This marked our 3rd episode with one another and the optimism levels within the program still sit quite high. There's a sense of unfinished business there. Everyone loves to see a team with a chip on their shoulder. Being sent home one step away from the state title game will do that to you. Big pieces are gone, but there are worthy ladies that should step in to fill their shoes. With the program growing ever so bigger in Eastman and around the state, it looks like everything is falling into place for yet another entertaining season.

The start of the 2025 high school softball season hasn't gone nearly as well as head coach Blakelyn Cook and everyone else has expected. The thing to remember here is that if you experience losing streaks like this, it's in everyone's best interest to have it happen early in the season. Strong finishes make everyone either forget about the early woes, or look back to reflect on what the team worked themselves out of. Sit back and listen so you can learn about Blakelyn, how much she loves what she does, and what she and her assistant coaches have planned for what hopes to be a huge bounce back. The University of Georgia once again lost some key players at important positions to the draft. A few also made their way into the transfer portal, but who are we kidding, who's not falling victim to this nowadays? Heading into 2025, the biggest storyline is the emergence of Gunner Stockton, the new face at the QB position. The amount of trust being put into this guy, coupled with the small yet impressive production he provided last season and the 2025 spring game, we shouldn't have anything to worry about. He has the trust of all the right people. The rest will come in due time. At other key positions, it'll be another reload. A nice mixture of players who've climbed the depth chart after sticking it out and those who took their positions the moment they stepped foot on the field. With all that being said, it's going to be another exciting, action-packed season. Go Dawgs!

Football season has officially gotten underway with some schools already having knocked out there first scrimmage games. Fans are still eager to get the regular season started and have their hometown team go ring chasing. In this episode, I sat down with Roger Holmes once again to recap how the 2024 football season went for the Fighting Irish. Here' s a little peek inside for you. Finishing one step away from a state championship shot stings for everyone. Especially for a team who is this good on an annual basis. This program has lost over half of their offensive production from the prior year. Will they reload...or fall behind?

The wait is nearly over. Football season is right around the corner if you can be believe it. I sat down with Dodge County head coach Phillip Brown for his 3rd appearance on the show. We talk about everything ranging from his thoughts on how last season ended, those who moved on to the college level, how summer camp has gone, and ended with the expectations he and the staff have for the 2025 Indians. After going well beyond the expectations familiar fans and foes, the bar has been raised. It looks as if they’re well on their way. Only one question remains. Can they keep it going?

"It Just Means More." Those are the famous words of the SEC motto. Today it is an absolute pleasure to present Sydney Karastury as the guest for this episode. The former Missouri Tiger and North Georgia Nighthawk has done extremely well for herself with her life outside of playing softball in what is arguably the hardest conference to do so, and a Division 2 program that has a program reputation to uphold. Now the head softball coach at Northside High School in her hometown of Columbus, GA, the devoted wife, mother, teacher & FCA leader at Northside had plenty to talk about. I'm just happy I got the chance to ride along and hear her story.

It's my pleasure to bring you Michael Strickland, a recent graduate of Coffee County High School and incoming freshman commit for the Mercer Bears baseball team. This episode brings the listeners Glenna Rae Whitley. This very talented 3 sport athlete from Eastman, GA is on her way to Cochran this fall to play soccer at Middle Georgia. Glenna and I run through her school career sport by sport and talk about memories that will live on with it. Lastly, she explains how and why she chose to pick soccer over flag football and basketball. Tune and hopefully you enjoy it.

You know what they say, save the best for last. Middle Georgia pitcher Emily Proctor took that advice and ran with it. In her final season as a college softball player, she is quite literally laying it all on the line and producing some results better than she ever thought possible. Something has clicked for her and her fellow Knights, and it doesn't seem like that momentum going to stop any time soon. One crucial thing that you'll hear us mention still remains for consideration. They must keep their heads in the right place. William Shakespeare once wrote, "Uneasy lies the head that wears the crown." Stay in a positive head space and everything else will fall into place.

This episode in particular was one that's been in the planning stages for quite some time, now that's it has happened, it doesn't disappoint. Caroline Albritton is my next guest who's gonna give you some insight into her life, work ethic, surviving the life of a student athlete, and the big success wave that the Lady Knights are riding in 2025. With their departure from NAIA coming sooner than later, can they punch their ticket and make some history before moving on to NCAA Division II?

The Middle Georgia Knights baseball team began their 2025 run a mere few weeks ago. It goes without saying that the consensus about last season could be summed up with one word: Disappointment. Finishing one game above .500 and being heavily dependent upon playing at home isn't the way to go. Who doesn't love a bounce back story though? Aside from his personal story, that's exactly what senior infielder Chaz Salter and I spoke about in this episode. Tune in to hear how he feels about how the 2025 season could go for him and his teammates.

We are mere days away from the college softball season starting. Both players and fans are eager to get rolling. The action and the grind behind it all is what we all live for. I was given the opportunity to sit down with senior first baseman Abbey Flowers to talk about the upcoming season, her returning from an injury, the boost that the newcomers seem to be giving the roster, this senior class's attempt to go out with a big bang. We're going to be short and simple today guys, the Sugar Bowl and the 2024 season for the Georgia Bulldogs left much to be desired. But if we all back up and look at the big picture here, the numbers for the year aren't that bad. Finishing 11-3, while still managing to win the SEC Championship with mediocre performances at best should make us see the season as successful with room for much needed improvement in multiple areas. With Gunner Stockton showing he can more than handle the pressure of a high stakes game, the QB position looks to be in great hands. Multiple position rooms look to be thin, but with help on the way, all Dawgs fans should look at 2025 with happy optimism. As the popularity of the sport grows by the day, so does my coverage. The Wheeler County Lady Bulldogs have wrapped up another great season of football. Despite the usual ups and downs that every team experiences, head coach Cory Reynolds had nothing but great things to say about the team's overall performance. Before the GHSA Girls Flag Football Playoffs got underway, Coach Sanders was kind enough to invite me to his home to recap how the 2024 regular season had gone for the Dodge County Lady Indians. The opening round was only a few days away at this point. Now that they have advanced one round further. Take a trip back in time with me to hear Coach Sanders's thoughts on the tremendous 14-1 region title winning season played out and what he thinks we'll see come from the efforts of these incredibly athletic players.

The 2025 college softball season is just around the corner, and I cannot be more excited for it to get underway. Season by season, the sport has been breaking records in so many categories concerning viewership and overall popularity. I had the privilege of sitting down with Madison Herrin, the head coach of the Brewton Parker Lady Barons, and talk about the upcoming season, what he's excited about, and what kind of impact he believes his team will make on and off the field this upcoming season.

Following the upset in Austin, TX, the Longhorns of Texas were left with their heads spinning. Mix the fan embarrassment with some extremely questionable calls, the game could be described as nothing but wild. Multiple Georgia players made a name for themselves that night by making #1 at the time look like they didn't deserve the top spot. Joey Marchant and I give our reactions on the game and talk about what's to come as the Bulldogs head into the big rivalry game with Florida that everybody looks forward to. Hope you enjoy!

As they were headed out of a bye week, the Dodge County Indians were entering homecoming week still riding high on their undefeated record. Their opponent for the big homecoming game was the winless Jefferson County Warriors. These games are widely known as "trap games". Thankfully they were able to avoid downplaying their competitors and maintained their record with a 43-6 win. Listen in as head coach Philip Brown and I broke down the prior 7 games in his office a week before this important game occurred.

We're a handful of weeks into fall and along with it comes hunting season. Multiple animals have to be a bit more careful now. This is the time of year that lots of people around the country look forward to. Listen in to the incredible time Bruce Hall and I had talking all things hunting and the great outdoors.

September is the month that brings us girls flag football, the sport that is growing at such a spectacular rate. It lacks nothing in entertainment value, thus giving an avenue for the ladies to show off their athletic prowess. Join me and Dodge County High School Lady Indians football coach Clint Sanders as we talk about the beginning of his coaching career, the creation & growth of the program, and the growth in the amount of schools that are starting their own teams. It's that time again! 2024 looks to be a year of redemption for the Georgia Bulldogs. Multiple keys players were lost to the NFL, but the return of star QB Carson Beck and the pickup of Florida Gators RB Trevor Etienne are just two examples that show fans that they do not lack depth in crucial positions. Once again, they are favorites to win the completely revamped SEC. So with all that being said, listen in as Chris Milton and I break down what we believe you can come to expect from the 2024 Dawgs.

To cap off my 2024 high school football season preview, I came back to my alma mater to hear from Matt Burleson. With them coming off a historic season, the expectations are high. They return some key members, but also lost some big playmakers from the '23 team. The return to the Final 4 is on everyone's mind, but the ultimate goal is to take that final step into "The Benz" so they can hopefully capture that elusive ring. Major League Baseball is back from the fun, action-packed All Star Break. The homestretch that is the second half of the season has been known to bring so many surprises in the past. One question that resides in the minds of ALL Braves fans is "Can the offense begin to match the pitching in order to keep the division title streak alive?" The trade deadline looms as well. Continuing on with our 2024 high school football season preview, I'm bringing you another Border War edition. We previously broke down Dodge and Bleckley, and now we start with the Wheeler County vs. Telfair County rivalry. Thomas Smith was kind enough to sit down with me earlier this week and talk about how the Wheeler County Bulldogs were looking as they've wrapped up summer workouts and eagerly wait on the fall. This rivalry never seems to lack the necessary energy both on and off the field. I don't expect this season to be any different.

As I deviated a little bit from the football coverage path, I jumped state lines over into Alabama and sat down with Russell County High School assistant coach Nigel Lawrence for another "get to know you" type of show. We break down his playing career in the U.S. and over in Germany. In the second half of the episode, Nigel talks about his transition into solely coaching after retiring from professional football.

We're back again with another peek behind the curtain. I made my way to Dublin, GA to talk with Roger Holmes, head coach of the Dublin Fighting Irish. Coach Holmes and his program have proven themselves to a successful football program, but we all know the numbers only tell us a piece of the whole story. Listen in to learn about Roger, his coaching career, and what Dublin aims to accomplish in 2024.

Football season is on people's minds months in advance from the actual kickoff. The preparation process is something to not take lightly. Failing to prepare is preparing to fail. It's already happened on the road leading up to here, so there's multiple ways that history can be made in Oklahoma City. Today we learn about what led her to this current point in her softball career and breakdown the Knights' chances of making it to the NAIA College Softball World Series after falling short last season. Macy Watkins was exactly the type of person to have on the show to close out the first month of 2024. My goal this year is to bring in some great new faces, and Macy did not disappoint. A true people person. Her love and passion for her craft, work ethic, and the way she represents women in the outdoors industry is out of this world. The conversation was a lengthy yet very fun one. I had the privilege of sitting down with former NFL cheerleader Taylor Arenz in this episode. We talk all about her childhood and her beginnings in athletics starting with dancing. We then move into her education in sports broadcasting & sports management along with her time as a cheerleader with the Houston Texans & Arizona Cardinals. Last but certainly not least, we break down her developed loved of running, the two podcasts she hosts, and sideline reporting for Texas High School Football.

After a very busy, yet exciting football season, Matt Burleson and I found some time to sit down once again to talk about the new heights that the Telfair County Trojans were able to reach this season. One mere step away from a state championship game birth, yet they were bested. This may sound like a complaint, but if you only knew where this team once was.
