Batten down the hatches and get ready for a Whale of a time in todays film: “The Whale!” Meet Charlie: a morbidly obese recluse in the last week of his life as he attempts to reconnect with his daughter and make amends for the ripples his abandonment of her caused. Its Fun for the whole family! Brendan Fraser gives a performance for the ages. Only an actor of his caliber could convincingly enjoy grape jelly Doritos sandwiches! Can Charlie reconnect with his daughter and make her see the good in people again? And did this movie live up to the hype of the short-lived WCU? Episode 38: 300

Is that the smell of blood, sweat and air-brushed abs I sense? That must be a sign of todays film: “300!” This purist adaptation of a comic book barely based on reality follows King Leonidas and his 300 gay but also straight Spartan warriors. They must stand as one, and push against the invading King Xerxes and his horde of reject Power Rangers villains. Did you know if you play the slo mo parts at 2 times speed, the movie is only an hour long? Tricked you! I actually made that up. Just like Frank Miller made up this bullshit comic! You think this is madness? THIS. IS. Episode 37: Asteroid City

Simmer your expectations cause we’re kicking off our new “Lap Around the TRAC” with Ryan’s theme: “Overhyped!” And what better way to start us off than the “Prince of Annoying Film Nerds” himself: It’s Wes Anderson’s “Asteroid City!” Told from the perspective of a fictional play, the story follows recently widowed Auggie SteamDeck, who arrives in the title town with his four children before being quarantined after the sudden arrival of an alien. The story flips back and forth between a cavalcade of quirky Anderson stereotypes and a black-and-white meta commentary on the state of film itself. Was this meteorite misadventure a malady? Or were audiences just not ready for it yet? Let’s figure out why Auggie burned his hand on the Quickie Griddle and serve up a piping hot new episode!Trevor Gregory: Host, ProducerRyan Wagner: Host, EditorAref Aboud: Host, ProducerChristian Starck: Host, WriterSocials:Gmail: [email protected]: @TRAC_CastInstagram: @trac_castLetterboxd: TheTRACcast

Struggling artist and hater of work, Sonny Malone is visited by the Greek muse, Kira, who inspires him to follow his creative dreams by building Xanadu, a coke-fueled fever dream disco club where the theme changes every 3 minutes. Man who cares if this shit makes no sense. Episode 35: Batman & Robin

Holy Kevlar Codpieces, Batman! We’re taking it back to 1997 with today’s film: Batman and Robin! This legendary failure from legendary director Joel Shumacher follows our titular heroes against dangerous new foes. The cold-hearted Mr Freeze, (who looks more like a Fury Road reject who got crammed into a cold press juicer), as well as the alluring Poison Ivy, (the only person in this movie who can act.) Oh and Bane is there too… I guess. The dynamic duo must do battle against these foes while managing to find the cure for the mysterious illness that Alfred is pretending to have to get out of this movie. Oh and Batgirl is there too… I guess. Will our heroes prevail and save Gotham? Will Mr Freeze go one minute without making ice puns? Will we max out our Bat Credit Cards? Episode 34: Signs

In todays film, M. Night Shyamalan answers the question of are we alone in the universe by way of crop circles, dusty water, and weird Army recruiters in “Signs!” Retired priest Graham Hess grapples with his faith and patience as visitors from the stars play annoying pranks on him and his family like flattening his corn and running around on his roof in the middle of the night. This alien invasion flick does the unthinkable and instead of highlighting the aliens, focuses on a mopey Mel Gibson and his weird family who must rely on faith in one another and a growing collection of water glasses to survive. Was “Signs” a hit? Or was it a swing and a miss like Merrill Hess’ baseball career?Trevor Gregory: Host, ProducerRyan Wagner: Host, EditorAref Aboud: Host, ProducerChristian Starck: Host, WriterSocials:Gmail: [email protected]: @TRAC_CastInstagram: @trac_castLetterboxd: TheTRACcast

When the nefarious Dr. Totenkopf plans to steal the worlds greatest minds to perfect his own dream of the titular utopia, it’s up to the Sky Captain and his plucky reporter love interest Polly Pocket Pepper Potts Perkins to stop his dastardly plans. Be amazed at a cast of actors who have no idea where they are with on-screen chemistry that makes the leads in Meltdown look like Romeo and Juliet. Will our dieselpunk pilot save the day? Which lovely lady will he choose? The constantly falling over Polly or Angelina Jolie’s 14 minutes of screentime? Will we find out why they had a tiny elephant in a jar? Episode 32: Ed Wood

Shock! Horror! Monsters! And that's just the description of some of the cast of Tim Burton’s 1994 biopic, Ed Wood! Johnny Depp stars as the titular director, an idealistic yet talentless man with dreams of making the biggest film in Hollywood. Marvel at the band of misfits he befriends to help achieve his dream, including legendary actor Bela Lugosi, played here by Martin Landau. Laugh along to Ed’s nonsensical directing style and discover why this madman with a heart of gold became dubbed the Worst Director of All Time. What’s that? Worst Podcast you ever heard? Judas and the Black Messiah

From director Shaka King comes the real-life story of Fred Hampton, deputy chairman of the Black Panther Party in 1960’s Illinois. It’s “Judas and the Black Messiah.” Hampton’s attempt to cross racial lines to unite various groups together hits a variety of roadblocks when the FBI sends in low-level criminal Bill O’Neal to take down the organization from within. Daniel Kaluuya, Lakeith Stanfield, and the whole cast shine in this spotlight on a lesser-known chapter in the civil rights movement.Trevor Gregory: Host, ProducerRyan Wagner: Host, EditorAref Aboud: Host, ProducerChristian Starck: Host, WriterSocials:Gmail: [email protected]: @TRAC_CastInstagram: @trac_castLetterboxd: TheTRACcast

Buy me some peanuts, Crackerjacks, and some cheap ball players, cause today we’re talking “Moneyball!” Brad Pitt stars as Billy Beane, General Manager for the Oakland A’s, the richest, poorest baseball team around. To fight back against the tyranny of the Evil New York Yankees and their mountains of cash, Beane enlists the help of a fake character, Peter Brand, to min-max their way to victory by purchasing dollar bin ball players who throw a little funny or are old. A method so legendary, it didn't even work! I mean… it kinda did? Episode 29: BlackBerry

From Matthew Johnson comes the story of one fruity phone company that's so good, it has to be true…ish. It's a BlackBerry! Johnson and Jay Baruchel star as Doug Fregin and Mike Lazaridis, two lifelong friends who started a tech revolution along with Jim Balsillie, a man who I can only describe as a political cartoon character with the word “CAPITALISM” written on his forehead. This dramatized account of the rise and fall of the legendary mobile device puts a spotlight on the opposite ends of the workplace spectrum. Do you side with the fun-loving pop culture boss man who enjoys movie nights? Or will you side with the evil boss man who hates fun and loves only money and his precious hockey?Trevor Gregory: Host, ProducerRyan Wagner: Host, EditorAref Aboud: Host, ProducerChristian Starck: Host, WriterSocials:Gmail: [email protected]: @TRAC_CastInstagram: @trac_castLetterboxd: TheTRACcast

You’ve heard of Tommy Wiseau. You know the name Breen. But you aren’t prepared for Christopher J. Martin and his Hollywood classic: Meltdown! FBI Agent John Thomas, the best agent in the field must take down a ruthless and vague “Crime” empire from within. All while juggling the corrupt misgivings of his boss, the temptations of his partner, and the risk of blowing his cover to the crime bosses, Crazy Eddie and The Dragon. From the mind of Robert Rodriguez, comes an answer to the age old question: Can a cerebral psychological thriller be dumb? That answer is today's film, Hypnotic! Ben Affleck stars as Officer BoringMan, a boring guy who uncovers a vast conspiracy about his missing daughter or something? Meanwhile, he must evade the film's villain who walks into scenes and Jedi Mind Tricks anyone he wants. Is that how hypnosis works? How does any of this work?? Quick! From director Gregg Araki and funded by The French, it’s the mind-bending, teen drama adaptation of White Bird in a Blizzard! From its humble beginnings at Sundance, all the way to its current home on Tubi, Shailene Woodley stars as Kay, a young girl who navigates the sudden disappearance of her mother and the aftermath that ripples through her life. This is clearly a traumatizing event but her mom was kind of a jerk though, or was she? I don’t know. Is she the bird? What’s happening in this movie?Trevor Gregory: Host, ProducerRyan Wagner: Host, EditorAref Aboud: Host, ProducerChristian Starck: Host, WriterSocials:Gmail: [email protected]: @TRAC_CastInstagram: @trac_castLetterboxd: TheTRACcast

Crank up the amp and spice up your taco bowl with a bit of cumin, cause today we’re sitting down for a feast of a film called “Dinner in America!” Kyle Gallner stars as rebellious punk freakazaoid Simon, a social outcast scraping by in the hellish suburbia of Michigan. Crossing paths with the neurodivergent outsider Patty, played by Emily Skeggs, the two form an unlikely bond, the likes of which none have seen since oil met water. What begins as an assault on the senses, ends up being a heartfelt story of finding your person, standing up for whats right, and the true meaning of being punk rock. To sum it up? The movie is tits. Episode 23: Cloud Atlas PART 1

From visionary directing duo, The Wachowski’s, comes a film so thought-provoking, the biggest question it provoked was: “What the hell is going on?” It’s Cloud Atlas! This sci-fi epic based on the novel by David Mitchell weaves 6 intertwining stories across time meditating on the human condition and the bonds that last lifetimes. It’s like JoJo but with less punching! Try to follow along and marvel at the attempts at makeup as well as depictions of Asianface that would make Mickey Rooney look woke. Episode 22: Ninja Assassin

Back in the far past of 2009, there was so much going on in the world. Barack Obama became president, Bitcoin became the first cryptocurrency, and swine flu caused mass panic. For us, though, K-pop star Rain had us seeing throwing stars in the cult martial arts flick, “Ninja Assassin!” Rain stars as Raizo, a man seeking to put a stop to the ninja clan that trained him alongside Europol agent Mika. With the Wachowski touch, this stylized send-up of ninja movies is sure to bring pulse-pounding action to your dextropositioned heart!Trevor Gregory: Host, ProducerRyan Wagner: Host, EditorAref Aboud: Host, ProducerChristian Starck: Host, WriterSocials:Gmail: [email protected]: @TRAC_CastInstagram: @trac_castLetterboxd: TheTRACcast

    Episode 21: Cruella

Who let the dogs out to commit acts of murder by canine? Why Emma Thompson, of course! From the director of acclaimed biopic “I, Tonya” comes a Disney live-action remake that actually doesn’t suck! It’s “Cruella!” Emma Stone plays famed dog-skinner Cruella de Vil, notably less of a mutt murdering sort here and more of the “comically eating bananas straight from the dumpster” sort. Hey! It’s Progress! Follow along as we see the events that turned this fashion world dreamer into the wicked girlboss we know and love today. Hey Disney, when are we getting that tragic origin film about Captain Hook? I sent you the script four months ago! His family gets killed by a crocodile, and Smee is his lover! Episode 20: Riki-Oh: The Story of Ricky

Oh Riki you’re so fine. You’re so fine you blow my mind. Literally out the back of my skull! In the Hong Kong martial arts classic, Riki-Oh: The Story of Ricky! The film follows the titular Riki, who has been sent to jail for killing his girlfriend’s sort-of killers I think? Riki quickly establishes his penchant for justice by tearing people apart like they were suddenly made of rubber and corn syrup. Watch as our hero barely struggles against adversity and the random English speakers they pulled off the street to do the dub work hard for the 15 dollars they were promised. Will our hero defeat the corrupt Wardens and free the inmates who are also probably in for violent crimes?Trevor Gregory: Host, ProducerRyan Wagner: Host, EditorAref Aboud: Host, ProducerChristian Starck: Host, WriterSocials:Gmail: [email protected]: @TRAC_CastInstagram: @trac_castLetterboxd: TheTRACcast

    Episode 19: Godzilla Minus One

The only things we fear in this world are giant monsters and math equations, which means we’re trembling at today’s topic: Godzilla Minus One! After a close encounter with the legendary beast, World War 2 pilot Koichi Shikishima must face both a radioactively evolved Godzilla and his own post-war survivors guilt. This latest entry in the franchise takes us back to Godzilla’s 1950’s roots as a humble metaphor for nuclear deterrence and anti-war sentiments. But Americans don’t care about that! When does he go to Hollow Earth and shoot the laser beam at the giant apes? Where’s Millie Bobby Brown?? Where’s Shimo??!!!! Episode 18: Under Siege

What “Die Hard” did for high-rises, “Under Siege” does for battleships in this high seas action-thriller starring Steven Seagal in his best film to date from 1992. Chief petty officer and bouillabaisse expert Casey Ryback is all that stands in the way of thwarting the mutiny aboard the USS Missouri, led by William Strannix and Commander Krill. Ryback must assemble his ragtag group of friends and Woman in order to stop Strannix’s nuclear-fueled revenge. Given what the future held for Mr. Seagal, it seems the only thing really Under Siege was his film career! Episode 17: Brazil

It turns out the scariest part of the dystopian future in Terry Gilliam's “Brazil” isn’t the bureaucratic capitalist police state it presents, but the lack of duct and tube management! Lowly government worker Sam Lowry dreams of a brighter future in his dead-end life when he encounters a woman named Jill, whom he keeps seeing in his dreams. Famously, the film does not take place in Brazil itself. Not since “Friday the 13th: The Final Chapter” has a title been this misleading. This is: The BRACcast!Your Cinematic Reviewers:Trevor Gregory: Host, ProducerRyan Wagner: Host, EditorAref Aboud: Host, ProducerChristian Starck: Host, WriterSocials:Gmail: [email protected]: @TRAC_CastInstagram: @trac_castLetterboxd: TheTRACcast

Fait and Co. must work together with Taiwan intelligence agent, Su, to save Fait’s daughter and perhaps even the world itself. What does the title mean in relation to the movie’s plot? I don’t know, but it sounds cool! Look, Jet Li kicked that guy one-handed! DMX ran up a wall and backflipped over a dog! Left home alone in the middle of the night, young Kevin and Kaylee awake to find their house turned into a dark and confusing maze of horrors. Meanwhile, they become haunted by an evil force who seeks to torment them. Episode 14: Dead Silence

From horror cinema darling James Wan comes his most horrifying feature yet: Aquaman! I mean… Dead Silence! After the wife of Jamie Ashen dies under mysterious puppet-related circumstances, Jamie returns to his hometown of Raven’s Fair to uncover the link between the murder and a 70-year-old curse upon the town. Meanwhile, Donnie Wahlberg is on the case as a wisecracking detective who’s never heard of shaving cream in his life. The film was seen as a disappointing follow-up to Wan’s previous film, Saw. I guess you could say the real Dead Silence was from the audience all along! Episode 13: Southland Tales

From the director of Donnie Darko, a film no one wanted to see because 9/11 happened, comes Richard Kelly’s sophomore feature, Southland Tales. A film no one wanted to see because 9/11 made the script too confusing! Dwayne Johnson stars as Boxer Santaros, an amnesiac actor who becomes embroiled in an apocalyptic conspiracy along with Krysta Now, a psychic ex-adult film star, and Roland Taverner, also a coincidentally amnesiac World War 3 veteran. The film features an all-star ensemble cast who have absolutely no idea what’s going on around them. This can be remedied, though, by reading the prequel series comic, which is required if you want to know literally anything going on. So if you like sci-fi comedy action dystopia epics, and you love homework, this is the film for you! Episode 11: The Exorcist: Believer

Instead of doing the sensible option of just filming large piles of money burning to ash, Universal Pictures and Blumhouse instead chose to waste even more money and make The Exorcist: Believer! This $400 million mistake from director David Gordon Green ruins another classic horror film by essentially making the same movie you know and love again. Only this time it sucks! The Exorcist was about a possessed little girl, so this time around it’s about TWO possessed little girls! Ellen Burstyn’s return as Chris MacNeil is so short-lived; if you’ve seen the trailer, you’ve seen about 90% of her screen time. Along the way, the three must work together and confront their own personal traumas for the sake of the affectionately named child, Kiyoko. Wait a minute… Christmas? Mads Mikkelsen and three other guys shine as four Copenhagen teachers who, in order to improve their sad, pathetic lives, decide to maintain a constant state of drunkenness throughout the day. Registered to the National Archives in 2021, then-U.S. Librarian of Congress Carla Hayden deemed this film significant enough to add to our National Film Registry. Episode 5: Sing Street

Gag me with a spoon and let's get totally tubular, lads, we’re travelling back to 1980s Ireland in “Sing Street!” In this coming-of-age tale a boy named Conor is transferred to Synge Street CBS, a school that seems to double as a penitentiary, where he is relentlessly bullied by everyone. Finding his muse in the local girl Raphina, Conor lies that he has a band in order to impress her. Now Conor must assemble a group of nerds and outcasts and enlist the help of his music-inclined, slacker older brother to make some jams, get the girl, and find himself. Something he does… actually quite easily. At least the music part. For real, this kid couldn’t carry a tune to save his life in one scene, and the next he’s singing like Adam Levine. Wait… Adam Levine’s on this soundtrack??Your Cinematic Reviewers:Trevor Gregory: Host, ProducerRyan Wagner: Host, EditorAref Aboud: Host, ProducerChristian Starck: Host, WriterSocials:Gmail: [email protected]: @TRAC_CastInstagram: @trac_castLetterboxd: TheTRACcast

    Episode 4: Creep

Get out your camcorder and put on your Peachfuzz mask, cause we’re talking about 2014’s “Creep!” Directed by and starring Patrick Brice, this found footage thriller follows Aaron, a very stupid man, who accepts a thousand dollars from Josef, a very *creepy* man, to film a day in Josef's life for his unborn child before he dies. Ignoring the red flags through his camcorder’s screen, Aaron must find a way to maneuver Josef's weirdness in between the jump scares they needed to remind you it’s a scary movie! Take those away, and it's basically just a strange white man guiding a hapless guy around with the promise of cash.If I wanted to watch that, I’d just watch Mr. Beast!Your Cinematic Reviewers:Trevor Gregory: Host, ProducerRyan Wagner: Host, EditorAref Aboud: Host, ProducerChristian Starck: Host, WriterSocials:Gmail: [email protected]: @TRAC_CastInstagram: @trac_castLetterboxd: TheTRACcast

    Episode 3: SMILE

Turn that frown upside down, or the TraumaMan will get you! It’s Parker Finn’s “Smile!” Based on Finn’s short film “Laura Hasn’t Slept,” “Smile” follows in the footsteps of modern boogeyman curse films like “The Babadook” and “It Follows” with a somehow even more passive evil entity. Sosie Bacon stars as Rose, a woman plagued by an incessant force that just stands there. Happily! Rose must uncover the source of her curse and remove it before her own demons consume her. If the sequel isn’t called “Smile Wide,” I’m going to Smile myself!Your Cinematic Reviewers:Trevor Gregory: Host, ProducerRyan Wagner: Host, EditorAref Aboud: Host, ProducerChristian Starck: Host, WriterSocials:Gmail: [email protected]: @TRAC_CastInstagram: @trac_castLetterboxd: TheTRACcast

Episode 2: The Man From Earth

While most cabin in the woods movies involve a final girl, a spooky slasher villain, and plenty of jump scares to go around, The Man From Earth boldly chooses to consist mostly of people talking in a living room for an hour and a half. Directed by Richard Schenkman from a screenplay by Jerome Bixby, this high-concept character drama follows a man revealing a long-held secret to his colleagues. Will they believe him or shun him for fear of reckoning with their own beliefs? Hey, can we get some lights on in here? I can barely see how many more Fiji water boxes we need to move to the pickup truck!Your Cinematic Reviewers:Trevor Gregory: Host, ProducerRyan Wagner: Host, EditorAref Aboud: Host, ProducerChristian Starck: Host, WriterSocials:Gmail: [email protected]: @TRAC_CastInstagram: @trac_castLetterboxd: TheTRACcast

Episode 1: The Da Vinci Code

A Catholic caper of ciphers, car chases, and creepy crypts? No, it’s not that Easter barbecue we don’t talk about; it must be Ron Howard’s 2006 film “The Da Vinci Code.” Based on the early 2000s phenomenon by Dan Brown, Tom Hanks and Audrey Tautou lead a thrilling mystery involving the Louvre, Da Vinci’s greatest works, and a convoluted secret from an underground society. Hanks stars as Robert Langdon, a symbology professor pulled into a world of codes and puzzles only he can solve to help clear his name and find answers for police cryptographer Sophie. Will Robert, Sophie, and Robert’s haircut be able to solve the Renaissance riddles while evading the nefarious Doctor Octopus and his albino monk assassin? Let’s crack open this cryptex and find out!   Your Cinematic Reviewers:Trevor Gregory: Host, ProducerRyan Wagner: Host, EditorAref Aboud: Host, ProducerChristian Starck: Host, WriterSocials:Gmail: [email protected]: @TRAC_CastInstagram: @trac_castLetterboxd: TheTRACcast
