Episode 234 We're already in the post-Iran War period

Summary:Two months to the day after the United States and Israel launched its war on Iran, it appears to be all over but the proverbial shouting. Iran controls the Strait of Hormuz and the Trump administration’s claims that its government is in disarray and its economy on the verge of collapse are sounding very reminiscent of the claims the Biden administration made about Russia early in the Ukraine War. Meanwhile, Iran’s foreign minister was warmly greeted in Moscow by Putin himself and their meeting looked very much like a victory lap.Links:Watch the video version of this episode here! What Would Truly Make America Great Again? The Great Iran Lie and the Persian Gulf CatastropheIran’s Araghchi Arrives in Russia to Meet Putin as US Talks StallFree Gifts from Tom:Download a free copy of Tom's e-book, It’s the Fed, Stupid, at itsthefedstupid.com.It’s also available in paperback here.More great content at Tom’s Substack here.Learn more about the philosophical differences between conservatives, liberals, and the founding fathers in Tom’s 2015 book, Where Do Conservatives and Liberals Come From?Check out Tom’s new podcast, Tom Mullen Talks Movies!Like the music on Tom Mullen Talks Freedom? Episode 233 Trump imposes fake blockade in latest exit attempt from Iran War

Summary:President Trump has imposed a “blockade” of the Straight of Hormuz as his latest desperate attempt to find an exit ramp from the Iran War. But 90% of Iranian oil exports are to China and Chinese ships are sailing right through. Meanwhile, Israel and Lebanon have separately agreed to a 10-day ceasefire.Links:Watch the video version of this episode here!Iran exposes the delusional empire and its mad kingChina calls U.S. blockade of the Strait of Hormuz ‘dangerous and irresponsible’Free Gifts from Tom:Download a free copy of Tom's e-book, It’s the Fed, Stupid, at itsthefedstupid.com.It’s also available in paperback here.More great content at Tom’s Substack here.Learn more about the philosophical differences between conservatives, liberals, and the founding fathers in Tom’s 2015 book, Where Do Conservatives and Liberals Come From?Check out Tom’s new podcast, Tom Mullen Talks Movies!Like the music on Tom Mullen Talks Freedom? Episode 232 Trump buys time with ceasefire but a deal with Iran seems unlikely

Summary:President Trump postponed his catastrophic attack on Iran’s energy and other civilian infrastructure at the zero hour, citing negotiations with Iran, including an Iranian 10-point plan Trump called ‘workable.’ But no one could possibly imagine the U.S. agreeing to Iran’s proposal and Trump appears to be merely buying time.Links:Watch the video version of this episode here!US 15-Point Plan to Resolve Iran ConflictIran’s 10-point peace plan in full – and whether Trump will actually accept itWhere will a U.S. defeat in Iran leave the world?Free Gifts from Tom:Download a free copy of Tom's e-book, It’s the Fed, Stupid, at itsthefedstupid.com.It’s also available in paperback here. It’s priced at a pre-hyperinflation level so grab a few copies for friends if you can.Learn more about the philosophical differences between conservatives, liberals, and the founding fathers in Tom’s 2015 book, Where Do Conservatives and Liberals Come From?Check out Tom’s new podcast, Tom Mullen Talks Movies!Like the music on Tom Mullen Talks Freedom? Episode 230 There is Only One Way Out of the Iran War for Trump

Summary:Three days into his second extension of the 48-hour deadline set on March 21 for Iran to open the Strait of Hormuz, the strait is still closed, Trump continues to claim he is close to a deal, but Iran says U.S. proposals received through intermediaries are ‘unrealistic.’ There appears to be only one way out of this conflict, and the empire won’t like it.Links:Watch the video version of this episode here!Trump claims “new regime” in Iran is more reasonableTrump issues new warning to Tehran, Iran calls US peace proposals 'unrealistic'The emperor is defeated in PersiaFree Gifts from Tom:Download a free copy of Tom's e-book, It’s the Fed, Stupid, at itsthefedstupid.com.It’s also available in paperback here. Summary:The Trump administration maintains it is having “talks” with Iran aimed at reaching an agreement to end hostilities. Iran continues to publicly deny any talks are occurring. Episode 228 Iran Calls Trump's Bluff; The Donald Responds with Another

Summary:On Saturday, President Trump gave Iran 48 hours to open the Strait of Hormuz or the U.S. military would destroy Iran’s energy infrastructure, beginning with the largest site first. Iran responded that if so attacked they would destroy the energy infrastructure and vital desalinization plants of the GCC. Monday came and Trump backed off, saying there had been productive talks with Iran. He issued a new five-day timeframe. Iran denied the talks occurred and raised him: they’re not interested in talking anymore. Episode 227 Trump's Strait of Hormuz Argument Is Dumb, Dishonest, or Both

Summary:Evidence continues to mount that the Trump administration launched the Iran War with no plan to deal with the consequences countless experts predicted if Iran were attacked. Apparently unable to reopen the Strait of Hormuz unilaterally, Trump now claims its closure is really Europe’s and Asia’s problem because the U.S. doesn’t import much oil that travels through the strait. Episode 226 War, Taxation, Regulation, and the Political Means

Summary:Trump certainly isn’t the first politician who campaigned hard on an issue and then did precisely the opposite once in office. It’s so regular an occurrence that people construct elaborate theories for why politicians and other government officials do the things they do. Tom suggests looking at all political issues through the prism created by Franz Oppenheimer’s classic book, The State, Its History and Development Viewed Sociologically.Links:Watch the video version of this episode here! The State, Its History and Development Viewed SociologicallyFree Gifts from Tom:Download a free copy of Tom's e-book, It’s the Fed, Stupid, at itsthefedstupid.com.It’s also available in paperback here. Episode 225 The Iran War Multiverse

Summary:The Trump administration has maintained the U.S. military has been wildly successful in the opening days of the Iran War. It claims to have destroyed 80%-90% of Iran’s missile capabilities and is close to victory. The war’s critics paint precisely the opposite picture. They claim U.S. bases in the region have been largely destroyed or rendered inoperable and the U.S. is close to running out of defensive missiles. Which story is true? Both? Netiher? Episode 224 The bogus arguments for presidential war powers

Summary:President Trump has attacked Iran without a declaration of war by Congress or even a congressional authorization to use military force. Like its predecessors, the Trump administration justifies its actions with bogus claims about the declaration of war power, executive war powers, and the mythical “separate and coequal” branches of government created by the U.S. Constitution. Episode 223 Iran Won't Go Quietly with Col. Douglas Macgregor

Summary:After another military buildup on Iran’s doorstep, the Trump administration suddenly changed the terms of the negotiation to an offer Iran could not accept. It then launched an air attack coordinated with Israel on Iran that the administration says could last weeks, although the objectives seem very open ended. And despite hoorahs all around from members of the administration and its supporters, Iran is refusing to go quietly into that good night. Colonel Douglas Macgregor joins Tom to discuss.Guest Bio: Colonel Macgregor is widely known inside the U.S., Europe, Israel, Russia, China and Korea for both his leadership in the Battle of 73 Easting, the U.S. Army’s largest tank battle since World War II, and for his groundbreaking books on military transformation: Breaking the Phalanx and Transformation under Fire. Episode 222 Trump's attack on Iran violates Congress' most important law and nobody cares

Summary:President Trump commenced a joint military action with Israel against Iran on Saturday, violating arguably the most important law ever passed by Congress, not to mention the Constitution itself. But as usual, nobody seems to care. Episode 221 The State of the Union is Delusional

Summary:The State of the Union address has long been a self-congratulatory Roman spectacle, with the sitting president taking credit for things he either had nothing to do with or hadn’t occurred at all, along with making promises no government on Earth can possibly keep. Summary:The core of libertarianism is property rights, including the rights to life, liberty, and justly acquired possessions. Episode 210 What if there are no Epstein clients? with John Ziegler

Summary:Millions of Americans are invested in the narrative surrounding convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. The left believes release of the so-called “Epstein client list” will finally bring down their arch-nemesis, President Trump. The right is split between believing it will expose a vast network of satanic pedophiles controlling world governments or connections to foreign intelligence. But what if there is no Epstein client list because there were not Epstein clients? John Ziegler joins Tom to explain why he believes this is just another case of mass hysteria growing out of a sexual abuse scandal that will likely harm innocent people before it is over. Time magazine reports that Putin missed a chance to swing the U.S. to his side when relations cooled between Trump and Zelensky. Daniel McAdams joins Tom to explain why none of that narrative is true. Mideast policy is also discussed. Guest Bio:Daniel McAdams is executive director of the Ron Paul Institute for Peace and Prosperity and Co-host of the Ron Paul Liberty Report. Episode 207 Americans would make better political decisions with no news media at all

Summary:The American fairy tale says the so called “free press” hold the government accountable and informs the public so they can make informed political decisions. In reality, not only does the news media misinform the public, the public would make better political decisions if no news media existed at all. Tom makes that case on today’s episode. Episode 206 A Fair Assessment of the Economic Arguments for Trump's Tariffs with Bob Murphy

Summary:Libertarians and other free market advocates tend to dismiss Trump’s tariff policy out of hand as simply economically ignorant mercantilism. But the policy advisors around Trump are not ignorant of free trade arguments but rather are highly credentialed economists whose true arguments must be first understood before being refuted. Austrian economist Robert P. Murphy, Ph.D. joins Tom to help listeners do just that.Guest Bio:Robert P. Murphy is a Senior Fellow with the Mises Institute. He is the author of numerous books: Contra Krugman: Smashing the Errors of America’s Most Famous Keynesian; Chaos Theory; Lessons for the Young Economist; Choice: Cooperation, Enterprise, and Human Action; The Politically Incorrect Guide to Capitalism; Understanding Bitcoin (with Silas Barta), among others. Episode 204 Trump believes international trade is another 'war' the U.S. has to win with tariffs

Summary:President Trump has designated April 2, 2025 “Liberation Day,” as he claims the reciprocal tariffs he imposes on American importers will make the rest of the country freer. But tariffs don’t make a country freer or richer and aren’t beneficial even as a response to like treatment from trading partners. Episode 203 There is no binary 'political spectrum'

Summary:Pundits constantly refer to a supposedly binary “political spectrum” with extreme conservatism on one end and extreme liberalism on the other. Often libertarians are talked about as if they fall somewhere between these two extremes. But this is a false paradigm. Conservatives, libertarians, and the people we now call “liberals” have three completely different views of human nature and ideas about the purpose of government. Episode 201 What James Madison Said About the Alien Acts of 1798

Summary:In order to deport illegal immigrants who belong to criminal gangs more expeditiously, President Trump has invoked the 1798 Alien Enemies Act. His premise in justifying using this due process workaround is that the state of illegal immigration and its related maladies like drug trafficking constitute a war. Federal judges have ruled against this argument. Ironically, it’s the same dispute that occurred when the act was passed and the related “Alien and Sedition Acts” led to the theory of state nullification of federal laws and ultimately to the elevation of Jefferson’s Republicans and the destruction of the Federalist Party. Episode 194 The Federal Reserve's Stealth Easing is About to End...Then What?

Summary:Since Summer 2023, the Federal Reserve has been reducing its balance sheet and thus reducing the base money supply available to member banks. However, the $2 trillion that has flowed out of the money supply during this “tightening” has been matched dollar for dollar by money flowing back into the economy from the Reverse Repo Market. Now, as the Reverse Repo Market balance approaches zero, the Fed will have to decide whether it continues to shrink its balance sheet and decrease the money supply for real, bringing on a possible financial crisis, or freeze or increase its balance sheet and bring back high “inflation.”A reckoning is coming soon.Links:Watch on YouTubeIs the Fed Loosening or Tightening?
