Why Stylists Charge for Bad Work (And How to Stop)

Okay, I've got a beef today, and we need to talk about money versus integrity. We all feel financial pressure, but what happens when fear starts making decisions behind the chair? Today, I’m getting into why we justify taking money for work we know isn't right, how scarcity affects our choices, and what that paycheck actually costs your business in the long run. Said with love, but you know I'm not sugarcoating it.Thank you for watching, always. — Kim🛍️ Shop Virtue Labs through my link:https://www.virtuelabs.com/en/stylist/Kim-Allison✅ Subscribe for more conversations with the voices reshaping the beauty industry.Click Here For More Info: https://linktr.ee/TrendywithKimAllison– Listen on Spotify, Apple, and all podcast platforms.– Follow @trendywkimallison on Instagram and TikTok.Subscribe to stay in the know. Hairdressers! Stop Making Your Clients Cry

Okay, I've got a beef today, and I need my fellow professionals to hear me on this one.I'm tired of seeing clients cry in their cars after an appointment. I'm tired of watching stylists blame the client every time something goes wrong. We hold a license, and right now, more than ever, that license needs to mean something. So today I'm getting into ownership, negligence, and the one thing I think matters even more than talent behind the chair. How a Trail of "Signs" Led Her to Her Dream Salon

Audra Brown is back for part two, and this is the story we didn't get to last time. She got fired her very first day behind the chair. Then she bounced from salon to salon, through walkouts, shutdowns, and every kind of chaos you can imagine. But she swears the whole time, the universe was leaving her little signs about where she was meant to end up. And when you hear how it all lined up, you might start believing it too. This one's part hairstylist journey, part something bigger. Come hang out with us. Where Are We Going With Social Media?

Something showed up in my feed this week that I can't stop thinking about. Not because of what happened, but because of how all of us reacted to it.So today I'm asking a bigger question: where are we going with social media? When did someone's real, human crisis turn into something we watch, screenshot, and share? I don't have all the answers. I just think it's worth sitting with.Sending love to Perez and his family, and to anyone out there quietly struggling right now. When Clients Tear Themselves Apart in My Chair

You know the ones. They sit down, look in the mirror, and immediately start listing everything they hate about themselves. After 30 years behind the chair, I've learned it's almost never really about the hair. So today I'm getting into what's actually going on in those moments, how I handle it without piling on, and where I think the line is between being a good stylist and trying to be something I'm not.Stylists, you'll feel this one. The Hair Trauma a Lot of Us Don't Talk About

I met Tanya on her wedding day, and we've been talking ever since. So I finally brought her to the mic. This one goes deeper than hair. We get into growing up with immigrant parents, the messages we pick up as little girls about what's "good enough," and why she's worn her hair a certain way for most of her life. Okay, so I went down the rabbit hole. Some medical, some natural, and one that honestly kind of shocked me that it's even an option.I'm laying it all out: What I found, what scared me, what I'm actually thinking about doing. Everybody keeps saying things were better back then. And I keep wondering… were they? Or were we just younger?I got to thinking about it this week and went digging through my own memories. When Did Beauty Become a Full-Time Job?

Friday, red folder, and I'm landing this plane.I've spent all week wondering why natural stopped being normal. Here's where I ended up: somewhere along the way, your appearance turned into a whole second job. Hair, lashes, brows, nails, injectables, the calendar never ends. And I'm not throwing stones. I'm on that calendar too.But it made me ask something I can't shake. When did beauty become something we maintain instead of something we just… did?I've got a theory about where this is actually headed, and it's not what you'd think.Wrapping up the trilogy. Here's what I've landed on after 30 years of this: overdone isn't out. Obvious is out. We're not enhancing ourselves to look enhanced anymore. We're enhancing ourselves to look natural. Let that sit for a second. And no, this still isn't me hating on anybody. I've got the Botox and the veneers to prove it. Quick disclaimer before the comments come for me again. This isn't me hating on anybody. Filler, veneers, whatever makes you feel like your best self? Do your thing, I'm here for it. I'm just genuinely curious about one thing.I've been in this industry 30 years, and lately I can't stop noticing it. Everybody's starting to look… the same.Same injector, same surgeon, same everything. So I put on an old movie this weekend and it hit me. Those people just looked like themselves. And it got me wondering when that changed. When did natural become something we get work done to achieve? Don't we start out natural?I don't have the full answer yet. That's Wednesday. Nobody Cares About You (And The Freedom Behind It)

Some days you get a wake up call that's less "aha" and more "ouch." Today I'm unpacking a truth that hit me hard: most people simply aren't thinking about you, good or bad. Not your critics, not your comment section, not the people who cut you off in traffic. And once that actually sinks in, it's oddly freeing. Aniya's Curls: A Love Island DISASTER

Okay, so I'm back on my Love Island hair talk, and you already know I'm about to get myself in trouble. This time it's Anaya and that curly weave, and before anybody comes for me, I'm coming from love. I'm a Black woman who knows vacation hair, especially when it will not cooperate. I've been there. I paid over $700 for a weave earlier this year that lasted seven days and dried up suspended in midair, child. So I get it. When Your Own Culture Calls You a Sellout

Okay, this one's a little deep and a little personal. I'm 59, I'm a Black woman, and lately I've felt the temperature in my comments. So let's talk about it. About being told you have to back the culture 100%, right, wrong, or different, or else you're a sellout. I was raised by a strong mom who taught us we were just people who happen to be Black. I'm not discounting anybody's experience, your pain is real and I see it. All I'm asking is that you consider I'm coming with my own filter of the world, and I can only start where I am. Slap It On & Pray: The Balayage That Scares Stylists | Audra Brown

In this episode I sat down with my online bestie Audra Brown (@audrapaintshair), the colorist and educator behind Atomic Orchard Salon and the creator of the Del Oro Method, and y'all, this one is packed. Audra's been doing hair for 20 years, and she pulls back the curtain on traditional balayage the right way — the low-and-slow lifting that keeps your hair integrity epic, how to actually manage warmth, why she starts every head at a 10 volume, and the consultation moves that separate expensive-looking hair from a hot mess. We get into pricing, color lines, her scary-but-genius "just slap a panel of blonde on it" technique, and yes, she reacts to one of the most atrocious extension fails I have ever laid eyes on. Whether you're a seasoned stylist or the next gen still scared to touch color, you're gonna learn something and feel inspired. So grab your coffee, settle in, and don't forget to subscribe, hit that notification bell, and leave me a five-star review so I can keep bringing you amazing guests like Audra. The Appointment That Changed How I Do Hair

This week I'm talking straight to clients, and stylists, don't come for me until you hear me out. I'm telling you about the appointment that changed how I treat people forever, the green flags and red flags to watch for before you book, and a little reminder for my fellow stylists: no audience will ever be bigger than the person sitting in your chair. Because beautiful hair is great, but people remember how you made them feel.🛍️ Shop Virtue Labs through my link:https://www.virtuelabs.com/en/stylist/Kim-Allison✅ Subscribe for more conversations with the voices reshaping the beauty industry.Click Here For More Info: https://linktr.ee/TrendywithKimAllison– Listen on Spotify, Apple, and all podcast platforms.– Follow @trendywkimallison on Instagram and TikTok.Subscribe to stay in the know. The Real Reason Talented Stylists Stay Broke (ft. Carly Zanoni)

Okay you guys, this one hit different. I sat down with Carly Zanoni from The Blonde Chronicles to talk about something a lot of us are scared to say out loud.. you can be talented, fully booked, working your tail off, and STILL somehow broke. Carly cracked that code to a seven-figure level, and she keeps it so real about the fear, the haters, and what it actually takes to bet on yourself. Whether you're behind the chair or dreaming about building something bigger, this conversation is for you. $250 for a Silk Press?! Are Stylists Losing the Plot?

Okay you guys, we need to talk. Threads is a war zone right now, hairdressers versus clients, and the service that broke me? A $250 silk press. In this solo rant I'm breaking down where that number even comes from, why the math isn't mathing, and why clients asking questions are NOT the enemy. After 30 years behind the chair, I've got some things to say. So pull up a chair, because we're bringing some light back to it.And don't go anywhere, because this Wednesday I'm sitting down with Carly Zanoni of the Blonde Chronicles. Okay you guys, this one is straight from the heart. Hate is having its moment right now, on Threads, on TikTok, everywhere, and I am so over it. I'll walk you through the exact questions I ask myself to check my own heart and choose peace over all the toxic noise. You guys… he DID it. Alfredo Lewis just dropped QOAT, the first-ever professional hair color top coat, and let me just say, she is THAT girl. Five minutes at the back bar and your color actually LASTS, honey. But this convo? It's so much more than a product. Why Your Hair Color Always Fades? And the Product That Finally Stops It!

Okay you guys, let me tell you about Alfredo Lewis.
