Jubilee, The Loving Gaze of God
Join us for Mother Wendy Dixon's sermon: Jubilee, The Loving Gaze of GodDuring Easter Tide this season, we are trying to understand what the Kingdom of Heaven is, and what it means to live in communion with God, with each other, and with the Creation around us. What it means for the Kingdom of Heaven to be here on Earth. The best image we have of this in the scripture is the Jubilee, the Sabbath of Sabbaths.Imagine a once in a lifetime reset. All your debts released, and all that you've lost restored. What would it be like to live with God in a Heaven and Earth come together as one way? It would be both a tangible and a spiritual reality. In this insightful sermon, Wendy reminds us what it means to be "seen" by our friends, our families and especially by God. This loving reminder that God sees each one of us and knows us and loves just as we are. That we are always in the "loving gaze of God." This is how we can start to bring Jubilee into the world, into our homes, into our neighborhoods. How we can continue to see one another with that same "loving gaze of God."From our reading from the Gospel of Mark chapter 5:Then one of the leaders of the synagogue named Jairus came and, when he saw him, fell at his feet and begged him repeatedly, “My little daughter is at the point of death. Come and lay your hands on her, so that she may be made well, and live.” ...Now there was a woman who had been suffering from hemorrhages for twelve years. She had endured much under many physicians, and had spent all that she had; and she was no better, but rather grew worse. She had heard about Jesus, and came up behind him in the crowd and touched his cloak, for she said, “If I but touch his clothes, I will be made well.” Immediately her hemorrhage stopped; and she felt in her body that she was healed of her disease. Immediately aware that power had gone forth from him, Jesus turned about in the crowd and said, “Who touched my clothes?” And his disciples said to him, “You see the crowd pressing in on you; how can you say, ‘Who touched me?’” He looked all around to see who had done it. But the woman, knowing what had happened to her, came in fear and trembling, fell down before him, and told him the whole truth. He said to her, “Daughter, your faith has made you well; go in peace, and be healed of your disease.”While he was still speaking, some people came from the leader’s house to say, “Your daughter is dead. Why trouble the teacher any further?” But overhearing what they said, Jesus said to the leader of the synagogue, “Do not fear, only believe.” He allowed no one to follow him except Peter, James, and John, the brother of James. When they came to the house of the leader of the synagogue, he saw a commotion, people weeping and wailing loudly. When he had entered, he said to them, “Why do you make a commotion and weep? The child is not dead but sleeping.” And they laughed at him. Then he put them all outside, and took the child’s father and mother and those who were with him, and went in where the child was. He took her by the hand and said to her, “Talitha cum,” which means, “Little girl, get up!” And immediately the girl got up and began to walk about (she was twelve years of age). At this they were overcome with amazement...Saturday Sunset Services at 4 pmJoin us in person in downtown Beverly, MA this season on Dane Street.Details on our website services page.https://www.trinitynorthshore.org/servicesConnect with us at https://www.trinitynorthshore.org, follow us on our Facebook Page https://www.facebook.com/trinitynorthshore, on Instagram https://www.instagram.com/trinitynorthshoreMay the Peace of God be with you today.

The Resurrection - Jubilee Fulfilled
Join us for Mother Jen Keifer's sermon: The Resurrection - Jubilee Fulfilled"...there will be no one in need among you."During Easter Tide this season, we are trying to understand what the Kingdom of Heaven is, and what it means to live in communion with God, with each other, and with the Creation around us. In this timely sermon, Jen shares with us the insights into Jubilee and the story of the landowner in Matthew 20, while at the same time leading the "in person" parish through an activity to help come alongside one of our neighboring communities here on Boston's North Shore. From our reading in Deuteronomy 15:If there is among you anyone in need, a member of your community in any of your towns within the land that the Lord your God is giving you, do not be hard-hearted or tight-fisted toward your needy neighbor. You should rather open your hand, willingly lending enough to meet the need, whatever it may be. Be careful that you do not entertain a mean thought, thinking, “The seventh year, the year of remission, is near,” and therefore view your needy neighbor with hostility and give nothing; your neighbor might cry to the Lord against you, and you would incur guilt. Give liberally and be ungrudging when you do so, for on this account the Lord your God will bless you in all your work and in all that you undertake. Since there will never cease to be some in need on the earth, I therefore command you, “Open your hand to the poor and needy neighbor in your land."Saturday Sunset Services at 4 pmJoin us in person in downtown Beverly, MA this season on Dane Street.Details on our website services page.https://www.trinitynorthshore.org/servicesConnect with us at https://www.trinitynorthshore.org, follow us on our Facebook Page https://www.facebook.com/trinitynorthshore, on Instagram https://www.instagram.com/trinitynorthshoreMay the Peace of God be with you today.

Jubilee, All of Our Hopes Realized

When this perishable body puts on imperishability, and this mortal body puts on immortality, then the saying that is written will be fulfilled:‘Death has been swallowed up in victory.’‘Where, O death, is your victory? Where, O death, is your sting?’The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law. But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ. Therefore, my beloved, be steadfast, immovable, always excelling in the work of the Lord, because you know that in the Lord your labour is not in vain.Saturday Sunset Services at 4 pmJoin us in person in downtown Beverly, MA this season on Dane Street.Details on our website services page.https://www.trinitynorthshore.org/servicesConnect with us at https://www.trinitynorthshore.org, follow us on our Facebook Page https://www.facebook.com/trinitynorthshore, on Instagram https://www.instagram.com/trinitynorthshoreMay the Peace of God be with you today.

Thomas, Touch, Connection, Kingdom, and Jubilee.
Join us for Canon Tim Clayton's sermon: Thomas, Touch, Connection, Kingdom, and Jubilee. In a digital age with an epidemic of loneliness, to touch and be touched is fundamental to our well being. Touch is one of our unique senses. You can see and not be seen, you can hear and not be heard, but you can't touch without being touched. Touch is central to healing, trauma recovery, and therapy. How does this story relate to us in the light of the Hebrew teaching of Jubilee, the "sabbath of sabbaths". In this fascinating study, Tim leads us through the story of Thomas and the Leviticus teaching of "Jubilee". Not just the ideas of "what not to do" rather the gentle nudge of what "to do". What does a tangible Kingdom of Heaven look like, and what might this be?from our reading today in the gospel of John 20.When it was evening on that day, the first day of the week, and the doors of the house where the disciples had met were locked for fear of the Jews, Jesus came and stood among them and said, “Peace be with you.” After he said this, he showed them his hands and his side. Then the disciples rejoiced when they saw the Lord. Jesus said to them again, “Peace be with you. As the Father has sent me, so I send you.” When he had said this, he breathed on them and said to them, “Receive the Holy Spirit. If you forgive the sins of any, they are forgiven them; if you retain the sins of any, they are retained.”But Thomas (who was called the Twin), one of the twelve, was not with them when Jesus came. So the other disciples told him, “We have seen the Lord.” But he said to them, “Unless I see the mark of the nails in his hands, and put my finger in the mark of the nails and my hand in his side, I will not believe.”A week later his disciples were again in the house, and Thomas was with them. Although the doors were shut, Jesus came and stood among them and said, “Peace be with you.” Then he said to Thomas, “Put your finger here and see my hands. Reach out your hand and put it in my side. Do not doubt but believe.” Thomas answered him, “My Lord and my God!” Saturday Sunset Services at 4 pmJoin us in person in downtown Beverly, MA this season on Dane Street.Details on our website services page.https://www.trinitynorthshore.org/servicesConnect with us at https://www.trinitynorthshore.org, follow us on our Facebook Page https://www.facebook.com/trinitynorthshore, on Instagram https://www.instagram.com/trinitynorthshoreMay the Peace of God be with you today.

The Gardener and the First Apostle
Join us for Canon Tim Clayton's sermon: The Gardener and the First ApostleIn this unique Easter sermon, Tim looks at the story of the first Apostle. The one who stayed with him while he was on the cross, who waited and grieved outside his grave, and who was the first to speak with Jesus after He rose from the grave. From our Reading in John 19 and 20:Now there was a garden in the place where he was crucified, and in the garden there was a new tomb in which no one had ever been laid. And so, because it was the Jewish day of Preparation, and the tomb was nearby, they laid Jesus there.Early on the first day of the week, while it was still dark, Mary Magdalene came to the tomb and saw that the stone had been removed from the tomb. So she ran and went to Simon Peter and the other disciple, the one whom Jesus loved, and said to them, “They have taken the Lord out of the tomb, and we do not know where they have laid him.” Then Peter and the other disciple set out and went toward the tomb. The two were running together, but the other disciple outran Peter and reached the tomb first. He bent down to look in and saw the linen wrappings lying there, but he did not go in. Then Simon Peter came, following him, and went into the tomb. He saw the linen wrappings lying there, and the cloth that had been on Jesus’ head, not lying with the linen wrappings but rolled up in a place by itself. Then the other disciple, who reached the tomb first, also went in, and he saw and believed; for as yet they did not understand the scripture, that he must rise from the dead. Then the disciples returned to their homes. But Mary stood weeping outside the tomb. As she wept, she bent over to look into the tomb; and she saw two angels in white, sitting where the body of Jesus had been lying, one at the head and the other at the feet. They said to her, “Woman, why are you weeping?” She said to them, “They have taken away my Lord, and I do not know where they have laid him.” When she had said this, she turned around and saw Jesus standing there, but she did not know that it was Jesus. Jesus said to her, “Woman, why are you weeping? Whom are you looking for?” Supposing him to be the gardener, she said to him, “Sir, if you have carried him away, tell me where you have laid him, and I will take him away.” Jesus said to her, “Mary!” She turned and said to him in Hebrew, “Rabbouni!” (which means Teacher). Jesus said to her, “Do not hold on to me, because I have not yet ascended to the Father. But go to my brothers and say to them, ‘I am ascending to my Father and your Father, to my God and your God.’” Mary Magdalene went and announced to the disciples, “I have seen the Lord”; and she told them that he had said these things to her.Saturday Sunset Services at 4 pmJoin us in person in downtown Beverly, MA this season on Dane Street.Details on our website services page.https://www.trinitynorthshore.org/servicesConnect with us at https://www.trinitynorthshore.org, follow us on our Facebook Page https://www.facebook.com/trinitynorthshore, on Instagram https://www.instagram.com/trinitynorthshoreMay the Peace of God be with you today.

The Parable of the Sower
Join us for Canon Tim Clayton's sermon: The Parable of the SowerIn this inspiring sermon, Tim looks at one of the classic parables of Jesus. In recent years some have defined this parable in moralistic ways. But is it a parable simply about morality? Or is it something that reaches deeper? What is Jesus trying to show us?From our Reading in Matthew 13:And he told them many things in parables, saying: ‘Listen! A sower went out to sow. And as he sowed, some seeds fell on the path, and the birds came and ate them up. Other seeds fell on rocky ground, where they did not have much soil, and they sprang up quickly, since they had no depth of soil. But when the sun rose, they were scorched; and since they had no root, they withered away. Other seeds fell among thorns, and the thorns grew up and choked them. Other seeds fell on good soil and brought forth grain, some a hundredfold, some sixty, some thirty. Let anyone with ears listen!’…“Hear then the parable of the sower. When anyone hears the word of the kingdom and does not understand it, the evil one comes and snatches away what is sown in the heart; this is what was sown on the path. As for what was sown on rocky ground, this is the one who hears the word and immediately receives it with joy; yet such a person has no root, but endures only for a while, and when trouble or persecution arises on account of the word, that person immediately falls away. As for what was sown among thorns, this is the one who hears the word, but the cares of the world and the lure of wealth choke the word, and it yields nothing. But as for what was sown on good soil, this is the one who hears the word and understands it, who indeed bears fruit and yields, in one case a hundredfold, in another sixty, and in another thirty.”Join us Holy Week and Easter Sunday at Crowell Chapel in Manchester by the Sea, details on our Events page: https://www.trinitynorthshore.org/eventsSaturday Sunset Services at 4 pmJoin us in person in downtown Beverly, MA this season on Dane Street.Details on our website services page.https://www.trinitynorthshore.org/servicesConnect with us at https://www.trinitynorthshore.org, follow us on our Facebook Page https://www.facebook.com/trinitynorthshore, on Instagram https://www.instagram.com/trinitynorthshoreMay the Peace of God be with you today.

The Intersection of Our Hope and God's Heart
Join us for Mother Wendy Dixon's sermon: The Intersection of Our Hope and God's HeartIn this fascinating sermon, Wendy recounts the story from our gospel reading in Luke 17 and how it affects each of us in our own struggles and challenges we face. She draws us to find hope in the intersection of God's heart for our lives. God is with us. God is for us. God delights in us, and meets us at the intersection of our hope and his heart. From our Reading in Luke 17:On the way to Jerusalem Jesus was going through the region between Samaria and Galilee. As he entered a village, ten lepers met him. Keeping their distance, they called out, saying, “Jesus, Master, have mercy on us!When he saw them, he said to them, “Go and show yourselves to the priests.” And as they went, they were made clean. Then one of them, when he saw that he was healed, came back, praising God with a loud voice. He fell on his face at Jesus’ feet and thanked him. And he was a Samaritan.Join us Holy Week and Easter Sunday in Manchester by the Sea, details on our Events page: https://www.trinitynorthshore.org/eventsSaturday Sunset Services at 4 pmJoin us in person in downtown Beverly, MA this season on Dane Street.Details on our website services page.https://www.trinitynorthshore.org/servicesConnect with us at https://www.trinitynorthshore.org, follow us on our Facebook Page https://www.facebook.com/trinitynorthshore, on Instagram https://www.instagram.com/trinitynorthshoreMay the Peace of God be with you today.

Worthy of Beauty
Join us for Mother Jen Keifer's sermon: Worthy of Beauty,Lavish Love Without WasteIn this thoughtful sermon, Jen takes a deeper look at the story from Matthew 26,Now while Jesus was at Bethany in the house of Simon the leper, a woman came to him with an alabaster jar of very costly ointment, and she poured it on his head as he sat at the table. But when the disciples saw it, they were angry and said, “Why this waste? For this ointment could have been sold for a large sum, and the money given to the poor.” But Jesus, aware of this, said to them, “Why do you trouble the woman? She has performed a good service for me. For you always have the poor with you, but you will not always have me. By pouring this ointment on my body she has prepared me for burial. Truly I tell you, wherever this good news is proclaimed in the whole world, what she has done will be told in remembrance of her.”How can we live into the beauty of the work of God without being pulled into "Empire like" thinking? Even in our best intentions we can sometimes be pulled into the logistics of Empire rather than the human image bearers that we are called to love and care for.How can we close the gap between our effort and our impact? How can we learn to live beyond a utilitarian worldview of statistics and into the power of unstoppable beauty and compassion for all of those in need within our families, friends, and communities? How can we live into extravagant care for the vulnerable and those in need?Jen invites us to learn to see that we are all worthy of beauty and care, especially the least of these.Perhaps part of the answer Jesus is showing us is here,"She has done a beautiful thing, wherever the gospel is proclaimed in the whole world, what she has done will be told in memory of her."May we each have a fresh encounter with the Christ who poured himself out for us.Saturday Sunset Services at 4 pmJoin us in person in downtown Beverly, MA this season on Dane Street.Details on our website services page.https://www.trinitynorthshore.org/servicesConnect with us at https://www.trinitynorthshore.org, follow us on our Facebook Page https://www.facebook.com/trinitynorthshore, on Instagram https://www.instagram.com/trinitynorthshoreMay the Peace of God be with you today.

Wonder Stories
Join us for Cn Tim Clayton's sermon: Wonder StoriesWhere does Jesus talk about "wonder"? Where does Jesus advocate for "wonder"?He never uses the word, but it's in the way that Jesus interacts with children and advocates for children in all their beauty and fragility. In this insightful sermon, Tim leads us through the places we can find wonder though the days are challenging. From our scripture readings in Isaiah:Have you not known? Have you not heard? The Lord is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He does not faint or grow weary; his understanding is unsearchable. He gives power to the faint, and strengthens the powerless. Even youths will faint and be weary, and the young will fall exhausted; but those who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength, they shall mount up with wings like eagles, they shall run and not be weary, they shall walk and not faint. And in the gospel of Matthew:At that time the disciples came to Jesus and asked, ‘Who is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven?’ He called a child, whom he put among them, and said, ‘Truly I tell you, unless you change and become like children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven. Whoever becomes humble like this child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven. Whoever welcomes one such child in my name welcomes me.‘If any of you put a stumbling-block before one of these little ones who believe in me, it would be better for you if a great millstone were fastened around your neck and you were drowned in the depth of the sea.[and a little later…]Then little children were being brought to him in order that he might lay his hands on them and pray. The disciples spoke sternly to those who brought them; but Jesus said, ‘Let the little children come to me, and do not stop them; for it is to such as these that the kingdom of heaven belongs.’ And he laid his hands on them and went on his way.Saturday Sunset Services at 4 pmJoin us in person in downtown Beverly, MA this season on Dane Street.Details on our website services page.https://www.trinitynorthshore.org/servicesConnect with us at https://www.trinitynorthshore.org, follow us on our Facebook Page https://www.facebook.com/trinitynorthshore, on Instagram https://www.instagram.com/trinitynorthshoreMay the Peace of God be with you today.

A Love that is Willing to Come Out and Find You, The Prodigal Son
Join us for Cn Tim's sermon: A Love that is Willing to Come Out and Find You, The Prodigal SonThere may not be two more famous stories from Jesus, than the Prodigal Son, and the Good Samaritan. Jesus often taught in what we know are "parables".Parable from the Greek word, parabolē, meaning "a throwing beside", a comparison... A story that is laid beside life, so that we can see ourselves within the story. A story that can guide you and teach you the deeper meanings of life. It allows us a place for self reflection. This week Tim walks us through the story of the Prodigal Son in a fresh and exciting way. We invite you in this insightful sermon to pay attention to how you feel. Who do you like in the story? Who don't you like? Who are you pulling for? Who are you annoyed by? Wholeheartedly Dedicated
Join us for Cn Tim's sermon: Wholeheartedly DedicatedHow can we learn to live and love deeply in committed relationships? And in particular committed marriage love?Cn Tim takes a deep look at an often misused and misunderstood passage of scripture and offers some insights into how we can have deep and committed relationships in our marriages and friendships with one another.Within most any bible that we pick up, no matter the translation, most often you will find bolded headers and sub-headers that have been placed by either the translators or the publishers. This lends to the idea that the bible can be a self help book based on different topics, when in reality the scriptures need the context of each book, letter, or passage to reveal to us the story or point that the author is making. In this thoughtful message, Tim looks at Ephesians chapter 5, which is often used to explain marriage and relationships, with the emphasis on living within "love",From our scripture reading in Ephesians 5, "therefore be imitators of God, as beloved children, and live in love, as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us, a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God." Jesus Stands Alongside a Woman Framed for Adultery
Join us for Canon Tim Clayton's sermon, Jesus Stands Alongside a Woman Framed for AdulteryWe live in a time where troubling and horrible actions and attitudes, prejudices and behaviors towards women are front and center in every day life both in the culture and in the church. We've seen the recently released Epstein files, along with the issues particularly with A.I. and "Grok". We've also seen clearly the view of many within the American culture wars, along with regular reports and scandals from within a wide spectrum of American churches and denominations. In light of all of these issues, this particular sermon is heavy, timely, and it's also an incredible and beautiful story from the perspective of Jesus, and how/who we understand God to be.How does Jesus view women? How does Jesus view this woman in this classic story from John chapter 7? What value does Jesus have for women and particularly this woman in this story? What was Jesus writing in the dirt? Tim shares a unique and insightful take on the response of Jesus to the crowd. As we pick up the story, we know that Jesus is being argued with by the religious leaders and they send these people to argue with Jesus, but when reason doesn't work, they resort to the level of their own prejudice and escalate the situation. The genius of Jesus is that He never takes the bait and at the same time he addresses the core issues at hand. How does this tie in to our own lives and the era in which we are living? The similarities are incredible.Join us as Tim leads us through this compassionate, insightful, and hopeful story. Can you see Jesus standing with you, defending you, standing up for you, and standing for you? See yourself standing in the best place you could ever stand, and that is in front of Jesus... Epiphany 4: Epiphany in the Temple and at the Foot of the Cross
Join us for Canon Tim Clayton's sermon, Epiphany 4Epiphany in the Temple and at the Foot of the CrossAn epiphany is a sudden, profound moment of realization, insight, or understanding, often described as an "aha moment," where a simple occurrence reveals a deeper meaning or truth, changing one's perspective.A flash of insight: A moment of sudden clarity or understanding, like a light bulb turning on, where everything suddenly makes sense.A transformative realization: A discovery that provides a new, deeper perspective on oneself, a problem, or the world, leading to significant change. This week Tim looks at the story of The Presentation of Jesus in the Temple and the story of John and Mary at the foot of the cross. In these powerful stories we see the beauty and revelation of Jesus. At Trinity we want to be a haven from the insanity of what is happening in our cities and towns, and at the same time, we want to touch on real and deep issues so that we might find peace and share hope amidst the chaos of this season. We know that the beautiful gospel of Jesus is for all times, including the one that we are living through now. Where do we find a future and a hope? Join us as Tim shares a deep and insightful message for our times. From our reading in John 25:"…Meanwhile, standing near the cross of Jesus were his mother, and his mother’s sister, Mary the wife of Clopas, and Mary Magdalene. When Jesus saw his mother and the disciple whom he loved standing beside her, he said to his mother, ‘Woman, here is your son.’ Then he said to the disciple, ‘Here is your mother.’ And from that hour the disciple took her into his own home."From our reading in Luke 2:Simeon took him in his arms and praised God, saying,‘Master, now you are dismissing your servant in peace, according to your word; for my eyes have seen your salvation, which you have prepared in the presence of all peoples, a light for revelation to the Gentiles and for glory to your people Israel.’And the child’s father and mother were amazed at what was being said about him. Then Simeon blessed them and said to his mother Mary, ‘This child is destined for the falling and the rising of many in Israel, and to be a sign that will be opposed so that the inner thoughts of many will be revealed—and a sword will pierce your own soul too.’Saturday Sunset Services at 4 pmJoin us in person in downtown Beverly, MA this season on Dane Street.Details on our website services page.https://www.trinitynorthshore.org/servicesConnect with us at https://www.trinitynorthshore.org, follow us on our Facebook Page https://www.facebook.com/trinitynorthshore, on Instagram https://www.instagram.com/trinitynorthshoreMay the Peace of God be with you today.

Epiphany 2: Peter's Epiphany
Join us for Mother Wendy Dixon's sermon, Epiphany 2Peter's EpiphanyWho Do You Say That I Am?Peter's EpiphanyAn epiphany is a sudden, profound moment of realization, insight, or understanding, often described as an "aha moment," where a simple occurrence reveals a deeper meaning or truth, changing one's perspective.A flash of insight: A moment of sudden clarity or understanding, like a light bulb turning on, where everything suddenly makes sense.A transformative realization: A discovery that provides a new, deeper perspective on oneself, a problem, or the world, leading to significant change. When Jesus asks Peter, "Who do you say that I am?"Peter had been given the clear realization to see that Jesus is indeed the Christ. Wendy guides us through a fascinating look at how Peter's epiphany of Jesus as the Christ goes way deeper than we expect. From our reading in Matthew 16:Now when Jesus came into the district of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, “Who do people say that the Son of Man is?”And they said, “Some say John the Baptist, others say Elijah, and others Jeremiah or one of the prophets.”He said to them, “But who do you say that I am?”Simon Peter replied, “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.”And Jesus answered him, “Blessed are you, Simon Bar-Jonah! For we saw his star when it rose and have come to worship him.” When Herod the king heard this, he was troubled, and all Jerusalem with him; and assembling all the chief priests and scribes of the people, he enquired of them where the Christ was to be born. They told him, “In Bethlehem of Judea, for so it is written by the prophet:“‘And you, O Bethlehem, in the land of Judah, are by no means least among the rulers of Judah; for from you shall come a ruler who will shepherd my people Israel.’”Then Herod summoned the wise men secretly and ascertained from them what time the star had appeared. And he sent them to Bethlehem, saying, “Go and search diligently for the child, and when you have found him, bring me word, that I too may come and worship him.” After listening to the king, they went on their way. And behold, the star that they had seen when it rose went before them until it came to rest over the place where the child was. When they saw the star, they rejoiced exceedingly with great joy. And going into the house they saw the child with Mary his mother, and they fell down and worshipped him. Then, opening their treasures, they offered him gifts, gold and frankincense and myrrh. And being warned in a dream not to return to Herod, they departed to their own country by another way.Saturday Sunset Services at 4 pmJoin us in person in Beverly, MA this season.Details on our website services page.https://www.trinitynorthshore.org/servicesConnect with us at https://www.trinitynorthshore.org, follow us on our Facebook Page https://www.facebook.com/trinitynorthshore, on Instagram https://www.instagram.com/trinitynorthshoreMay the Peace of God be with you today.

Christmas Week 2- A Child is Born: the Name of Jesus, Given by the Angel
Join us for Mother Jen Keifer's sermon, Christmas Week 2A Child is Born: the Name of Jesus, Given by the AngelJesus was willing to enter the life as a child, as vulnerable, with everything to learn about being human. It's deeply powerful when we understand how our children have all of this dependance on each one of us as parents, and that God himself chooses to also be dependent on a mother and a father and a family. All of the interdependence on so many throughout his life, but especially as a child. God entrusted himself to human care. The Gospel of Luke shares an insight into this particular moment of the story. We've had the chorus of angels, we've had the surprise visit from the astonished shepherds, and now we have this humble instruction where Jesus is named officially. From our reading in Luke 2:"After eight days had passed, it was time to circumcise the child; and he was called Jesus, the name given by the angel before he was conceived in the womb."Join us as Jen shares 3 insightful meditations about what it means for us today that his parents named him with the name given to them by the angel.Saturday Sunset Services at 4 pmJoin us in person in Beverly, MA this season.Details on our website services page.https://www.trinitynorthshore.org/servicesConnect with us at https://www.trinitynorthshore.org, follow us on our Facebook Page https://www.facebook.com/trinitynorthshore, on Instagram https://www.instagram.com/trinitynorthshoreMay the Peace of God be with you today.

Advent 3: The Joy of Joseph
Join us for Mother Jen Keifer's sermon, The Joy of Joseph. This Advent we want to look at what it was like for Zechariah, for Joseph, for the Magi and others as they experienced the message of God coming to them from angels and from dreams and from the stars in the heavens.Week Three, Joy.In a unique and insightful way, Jen shares with us the understanding and the wisdom of Joseph, who refused to harden his heart and instead remained open, gentle, and faithful. We walk through the story of Joseph as he is spoken to by God through his dreams, and each of those dreams leads them according to God's plan. From our scripture in Matthew:Her husband Joseph, being a righteous man and unwilling to expose her to public disgrace, planned to dismiss her quietly. But just when he had resolved to do this, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream and said, “Joseph, son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary as your wife, for the child conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit. She will bear a son, and you are to name him Jesus, for he will save his people from their sins.” All this took place to fulfill what had been spoken by the Lord through the prophet: “Look, the virgin shall conceive and bear a son, and they shall name him Emmanuel,”which means, “God is with us.” When Joseph awoke from sleep, he did as the angel of the Lord commanded him; he took her as his wife, but had no marital relations with her until she had borne a son; and he named him Jesus……Now after [the Wise Men] had left, an angel of the Lord appeared to Joseph in a dream and said, “Get up, take the child and his mother, and flee to Egypt, and remain there until I tell you; for Herod is about to search for the child, to destroy him.” Then Joseph got up, took the child and his mother by night, and went to Egypt, and remained there until the death of Herod. This was to fulfill what had been spoken by the Lord through the prophet, “Out of Egypt I have called my son”……When Herod died, an angel of the Lord suddenly appeared in a dream to Joseph in Egypt and said, “Get up, take the child and his mother, and go to the land of Israel, for those who were seeking the child’s life are dead.” Then Joseph got up, took the child and his mother, and went to the land of Israel. But when he heard that Archelaus was ruling over Judea in place of his father Herod, he was afraid to go there. And after being warned in a dream, he went away to the district of Galilee. There he made his home in a town called Nazareth, so that what had been spoken through the prophets might be fulfilled, “He will be called a Nazorean.”Saturday Sunset Services at 4 pmJoin us in person in Beverly, MA this season.Details on our website services page.https://www.trinitynorthshore.org/servicesConnect with us at https://www.trinitynorthshore.org, follow us on our Facebook Page https://www.facebook.com/trinitynorthshore, on Instagram https://www.instagram.com/trinitynorthshoreMay the Peace of God be with you today.

Advent 1: The Hope of Zechariah
Join us for Cn Tim Clayton's sermon, The Hope of ZechariahThis Advent we want to look at what it was like for Zechariah, for Joseph, for the Magi and others as they experienced the message of God coming to them from angels and from dreams and from the stars in the heavens.Week One, Hope.Maybe you can identify with disappointments, maybe you have misplaced hopes, maybe you feel like your story is dried up. This week we look at the story of Zechariah and Elizabeth and the message of hope that Gabriel brings to them. From our scripture in Luke 1:Then there appeared to him an angel of the Lord, standing at the right side of the altar of incense. When Zechariah saw him, he was terrified; and fear overwhelmed him. But the angel said to him, “Do not be afraid, Zechariah, for your prayer has been heard. Your wife Elizabeth will bear you a son, and you will name him John. You will have joy and gladness, and many will rejoice at his birth, for he will be great in the sight of the Lord. He must never drink wine or strong drink; even before his birth he will be filled with the Holy Spirit. He will turn many of the people of Israel to the Lord their God. With the spirit and power of Elijah he will go before him, to turn the hearts of parents to their children, and the disobedient to the wisdom of the righteous, to make ready a people prepared for the Lord.” Zechariah said to the angel, “How will I know that this is so? For I am an old man, and my wife is getting on in years.” The angel replied, “I am Gabriel. I stand in the presence of God, and I have been sent to speak to you and to bring you this good news. But now, because you did not believe my words, which will be fulfilled in their time, you will become mute, unable to speak, until the day these things occur.”Saturday Sunset Services at 4 pmJoin us in person in Beverly, MA this season.Details on our website services page.https://www.trinitynorthshore.org/servicesConnect with us at https://www.trinitynorthshore.org, follow us on our Facebook Page https://www.facebook.com/trinitynorthshore, on Instagram https://www.instagram.com/trinitynorthshoreMay the Peace of God be with you today.

King of All Creation
Join us for Ben Lowe's sermon, King of All CreationChrist the King Sunday!Join us as Ben Lowe (director of ARocha USA) leads us through the beautiful and awe inspiring of Jesus, the King of all Creation. When life hits us with powerful and relentless storms, there is always one who stands with us to command the winds and the rushing water in the storms of this life, and in the calm and beauty. From our scripture reading in Luke:One day he got into a boat with his disciples, and he said to them, “Let us go across to the other side of the lake.” So they put out, and while they were sailing he fell asleep. A windstorm swept down on the lake, and the boat was filling with water, and they were in danger. They went to him and woke him up, shouting, “Master, Master, we are perishing!” And he woke up and rebuked the wind and the raging waves; they ceased, and there was a calm. He said to them, “Where is your faith?” They were afraid and amazed, and said to one another, “Who then is this, that he commands even the winds and the water, and they obey him?”Saturday Sunset Services at 4 pmJoin us in person in Beverly, MA this season.Details on our website services page.https://www.trinitynorthshore.org/servicesConnect with us at https://www.trinitynorthshore.org, follow us on our Facebook Page https://www.facebook.com/trinitynorthshore, on Instagram https://www.instagram.com/trinitynorthshoreMay the Peace of God be with you today.

Kingdom Season: How Christ Became King of All
Join us for Cn Tim Clayton's sermon: How Christ Became King of AllKingdom Season is a period of reflection on the reign of Christ, observed between All Saints' Day (November 1st) and the start of Advent. It is also known as Kingdomtide and culminates in the Feast of Christ the King, which is the last Sunday of the church year. The season uses this time to focus on the themes of God's kingdom. This week we look at How Christ Became King of All.How God Became King of All.In today's sermon we look at Paul's letter to the church in Philippi, which is at least 240 hours in travel via sailing and marching from Rome. In order to control that whole region in Northeastern Greece, the Roman military veterans were given land and placed there in that region after Rome conquered it so that they could import Rome's culture and could influence this region to help hold it under the control of the Empire, and it worked. From our reading in Philippians 2,"Let the same mind be in you that was in Christ Jesus, who, though he was in the form of God, did not regard equality with God as something to be exploited, but emptied himself, taking the form of a slave, being born in human likeness. And being found in human form, he humbled himself and became obedient to the point of death—even death on a cross." What Paul is showing the Philippians is completely counter to everything the Empire had ever taught them. Jesus, though He was God, did not regard equality with God something to be exploited, but rather emptied Himself, taking the form of a slave being found in human likeness; became obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross. The cross is the Empire's most famous form of torture and humiliation. Jesus dies the most humiliating torturous death the Empire had invented. Paul goes on to share that because of Jesus' death that, "Therefore God also highly exalted him and gave him the name that is above every name, so that at the name of Jesus every knee should bend, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father." Jesus demonstrates His Kingship in that He reaches out to you, and to each one of us.Saturday Sunset Services at 4 pmJoin us in person in Beverly, MA this season.Details on our website services page.https://www.trinitynorthshore.org/servicesConnect with us at https://www.trinitynorthshore.org, follow us on our Facebook Page https://www.facebook.com/trinitynorthshore, on Instagram https://www.instagram.com/trinitynorthshoreMay the Peace of God be with you today.

Kingdom Season: King of Forgiveness
Join us for Cn Tim Clayton's sermon: King of ForgivenessKingdom Season is a period of reflection on the reign of Christ, observed between All Saints' Day (November 1st) and the start of Advent. It is also known as Kingdomtide and culminates in the Feast of Christ the King, which is the last Sunday of the church year. The season uses this time to focus on the themes of God's kingdom. This week we look at Forgiveness. From our scripture reading in Luke 5:One day, while he was teaching, Pharisees and teachers of the law were sitting near by (they had come from every village of Galilee and Judea and from Jerusalem); and the power of the Lord was with him to heal. Just then some men came, carrying a paralyzed man on a bed. They were trying to bring him in and lay him before Jesus; but finding no way to bring him in because of the crowd, they went up on the roof and let him down with his bed through the tiles into the middle of the crowd in front of Jesus. When he saw their faith, he said, “Friend, your sins are forgiven you.” Then the scribes and the Pharisees began to question, “Who is this who is speaking blasphemies? Who can forgive sins but God alone?” When Jesus perceived their questionings, he answered them, “Why do you raise such questions in your hearts? Which is easier, to say, ‘Your sins are forgiven you,’ or to say, ‘Stand up and walk’? But so that you may know that the Son of Man has authority on earth to forgive sins”—he said to the one who was paralyzed—“I say to you, stand up and take your bed and go to your home.” Saturday Sunset Services at 4 pmJoin us in person in Beverly, MA this season.Details on our website services page.https://www.trinitynorthshore.org/servicesConnect with us at https://www.trinitynorthshore.org, follow us on our Facebook Page https://www.facebook.com/trinitynorthshore, on Instagram https://www.instagram.com/trinitynorthshoreMay the Peace of God be with you today.

All Saints-Appreciating Antony and Athanasius: Recovering from Trauma and Taking Courage Against Tyrants
Join us for Mako Nagasawa's sermon, Appreciating Antony and Athanasius: Recovering from Trauma and Taking Courage Against TyrantsAll Saints DayOne of the reasons we honor the Saints on All Saints Day is that they inspire us to practice our faith in a deep and meaningful way. They remind us that we are not alone. The early church Desert Fathers and Mothers were really doing resistance training. In this fascinating sermon, Mako leads us through some of the intriguing stories of Anthony of Egypt. How can we reflect the love and goodness, the care and kindness and patience of Jesus? How can we work together to help a world that is broken, and fearful, and angry because they don't feel like they have many other options? The closer we can stay to Jesus, opening our hearts and our lives up to Him, the more we will find that He does lead us down new paths, by still waters and green pastures. That He does set a table before us in the midst of our enemies.Saturday Sunset Services at 4 pmJoin us in person in Beverly, MA this season.Details on our website services page.https://www.trinitynorthshore.org/servicesConnect with us at https://www.trinitynorthshore.org, follow us on our Facebook Page https://www.facebook.com/trinitynorthshore, on Instagram https://www.instagram.com/trinitynorthshoreMay the Peace of God be with you today.

The Nicene Creed and A Response to Ongoing Situations in the ACNA.
Join us for Cn Tim Clayton's sermon, The Nicene Creed and A Response to Ongoing Situations in the ACNA.Join us for Tim's caring and personal response and a beautiful insight to the Nicene Creed. In light of the ongoing serious issues within the leadership of the Anglican Church in North America, at some point the ACNA needs to acknowledge that we have a culture problem in significant leadership roles within the ACNA. Why can't we do the biblical thing and lament? Can we imagine what might change if we had National Days of Lament over this?We also have to acknowledge that sorting out situations like this is very difficult. What can we do when we've been harmed by the church or more specifically by the Senior Leadership within the church? When the church has deeply and personally disappointed you? How do we find a way forward when the situation seems devastating and deeply disappointing? One way is through lamenting together, one way is through calling on leadership to be accountable, another way is through a practice that's gone on for centuries within the church worldwide, The Nicene Creed. This year marks the 1700th anniversary of the Nicene Creed. The Creed happens because the early church leaders wanted to center people in the core of God's narrative love story in Christ Jesus..Saturday Sunset Services at 4 pmJoin us in person in Beverly, MA this season.Details on our website services page.https://www.trinitynorthshore.org/servicesConnect with us at https://www.trinitynorthshore.org, follow us on our Facebook Page https://www.facebook.com/trinitynorthshore, on Instagram https://www.instagram.com/trinitynorthshoreMay the Peace of God be with you today.

Exodus: Carried and Cared For
Join us for Cn Tim Clayton's sermon, Exodus: Carried and Cared ForIn this insightful and encouraging message, Tim reminds us that transition is a special part of our lives. The beauty of life and of heading towards the place you hope to be is not just the arriving at the place, but the beauty of the journey itself. From our reading, Deuteronomy 1:31The Lord your God, who goes before you, is the one who will fight for you, just as he did for you in Egypt before your very eyes, and in the wilderness, where you saw how the Lord your God carried you, just as one carries a child, all the way that you travelled until you reached this place. When we hold on to the promise that God has made to us, that God has carried us all this way along our journey, then we know it will work and we know it will be better.Saturday Sunset Services at 4 pmJoin us in person in Beverly, MA this season.Details on our website services page.https://www.trinitynorthshore.org/servicesConnect with us at https://www.trinitynorthshore.org, follow us on our Facebook Page https://www.facebook.com/trinitynorthshore, on Instagram https://www.instagram.com/trinitynorthshoreMay the Peace of God be with you today.

Creationtide 2025 Week 5: Angels, Holy Michael and All Angels
Creationtide Week 5 Join us for Cn Tim Clayton's sermon: Angels, Holy Michael and All AngelsJoin us as Tim shares about Holy Michael and All Angels and some of what we know about another of God's creatures.Once a year the church calendar draws our attention to Angels, we never get too far away from the truth that God's creation involves more than we can see and sense. The understanding that God has made his angels as His messengers of love, allows for even more confidence in the depth of God's love for us, layers, depth, that we may not be aware of. In God's great love he has also created angels, as His servants and messengers to us about God and his great love. From our scripture reading in Revelation 4:Day and night without ceasing they sing,‘Holy, holy, holy, the Lord God the Almighty, who was and is and is to come.’And whenever the living creatures give glory and honour and thanks to the one who is seated on the throne, who lives for ever and ever, the twenty-four elders fall before the one who is seated on the throne and worship the one who lives for ever and ever; they cast their crowns before the throne, singing,‘You are worthy, our Lord and God, to receive glory and honour and power, for you created all things, and by your will they existed and were created.’Join us in person in Beverly, MA this season.Details on our website services page.https://www.trinitynorthshore.org/servicesConnect with us at https://www.trinitynorthshore.org, follow us on our Facebook Page https://www.facebook.com/trinitynorthshore, on Instagram https://www.instagram.com/trinitynorthshoreMay the Peace of God be with you today.

Creationtide 2025 Week 4: God of Oaks and Rivers, of Bees and Soil
Creationtide Week 4Join us for Mother Jen Keifer's sermon:Creationtide: God of Oaks and Rivers, of Bees and SoilWe continue our look at Creation's central position in the GospelJen invites us to pause. To take a breath. To take a moment and connect with Creation. When we pause in front of an Oak Tree we are invited into stillness, we are invited back into "wonder". When we pay attention to the life of a tree, we are pulled out of the abstraction of Empire. This is how scripture invites us to look at Creation. Not as backdrop, not as scenery, not as material, rather as a witness to God's ongoing work. The scripture is full of this kind of imagery. Trees clap their hands, rivers lift their voices, mountains rejoice, even the rocks cry out.from our reading today in Psalm 19The heavens are telling the glory of God; and the firmament proclaims his handiwork. Day to day pours forth speech, and night to night declares knowledge. There is no speech, nor are there words; their voice is not heard; yet their voice goes out through all the earth, and their words to the end of the world. And in the gospel of Luke chapter 19Then they brought it to Jesus; and after throwing their cloaks on the colt, they set Jesus on it. As he rode along, people kept spreading their cloaks on the road. As he was now approaching the path down from the Mount of Olives, the whole multitude of the disciples began to praise God joyfully with a loud voice for all the deeds of power that they had seen, saying,“Blessed is the king who comes in the name of the Lord! Peace in heaven, and glory in the highest heaven!”Some of the Pharisees in the crowd said to him, “Teacher, order your disciples to stop.” He answered, “I tell you, if these were silent, the stones would shout out.”The Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew (Eastern Orthodox) proposed in 1989 that September 1st (the first day of the Orthodox Church year) should be observed as a day “of protection of the natural environment”.In 2016, Pope Francis declared 1 September an annual World Day of Prayer for the Care of Creation. This was expanded in Europe to be a season — Creationtide — going from September 1st until October 4th (the Feast of St Francis), and has been adopted in many churches around the world, including some in the Anglican Communion. Why is this important? Creationtide 2025 Week 3: Re-storying Origins, Identity, and Purpose: Restore, Reconcile, Liberate
Creationtide Week 3Join us for Mother Jen Keifer's sermon:Creationtide: Re-storying Origins, Identity, and Purpose:Restore, Reconcile, LiberateRestoring our Cosmology, Ontology, and Teleology through re-storying.Cosmology - the doctrine of origins. Where do we come from?Ontology - the doctrine of the nature of our being or our identity. What is our identity? How do we re-story our identity?Teleology: the doctrine of design and purpose in the material world. What are we aiming at? What is our purpose and destination? The true story of God is one of restoration not retribution; reconcile not exile, liberation not obliteration. Re-storying these reconnects us to our Origins, Identity, Purpose.God's plan has always been the restoration of the whole creation.Jesus, the seed sown into the earth, wove God Himself into the story so that we might be restored to God, to one another, and to all creation. The Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew (Eastern Orthodox) proposed in 1989 that September 1st (the first day of the Orthodox Church year) should be observed as a day “of protection of the natural environment”.In 2016, Pope Francis declared 1 September an annual World Day of Prayer for the Care of Creation. Creationtide 2025 Week 2: Amazing and Unexpected
Creationtide Week 2Join us for Cn Tim Clayton's sermon:Creationtide: Amazing and UnexpectedThe Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew (Eastern Orthodox) proposed in 1989 that September 1st (the first day of the Orthodox Church year) should be observed as a day “of protection of the natural environment”.In 2016, Pope Francis declared 1 September an annual World Day of Prayer for the Care of Creation. This was expanded in Europe to be a season — Creationtide — going from September 1st until October 4th (the Feast of St Francis), and has been adopted in many churches around the world, including some in the Anglican Communion. Why is this important? How does this relate to me? Join us as Tim walks us through this part of our sermon series during Creationtide.Somewhere along the way we may have lost a bit of the story of God.It's not that "creation" failed and the whole idea of God creating the universe and humankind was a "waste", rather it's that God worked in this AMAZING and UNEXPECTED way to enter and weave God's OWN SELF into the story; and to demonstrate how to live and interact with all creation, including God's selfless love in laying down His life so that we might be forgiven and re-enter relationship with God, each other, and all of creation. What do we do with this in our daily lives? How do we live into the rhythms that God has given us?From our reading in Matthew 6:‘Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust consume and where thieves break in and steal; but store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust consumes and where thieves do not break in and steal…‘No one can serve two masters; for a slave will either hate the one and love the other, or be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and wealth.‘Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink, or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothing? Look at the birds of the air; they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they? And can any of you by worrying add a single hour to your span of life? And why do you worry about clothing? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow; they neither toil nor spin, yet I tell you, even Solomon in all his glory was not clothed like one of these. But if God so clothes the grass of the field, which is alive today and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, will he not much more clothe you—you of little faith? Therefore do not worry, saying, “What will we eat?” or “What will we drink?” or “What will we wear?” For it is the Gentiles who strive for all these things; and indeed your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things. But strive first for the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.‘So do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will bring worries of its own. Today’s trouble is enough for today.Trinity-Summer by the Sea!This June through September join us on Boston's North Shore in Magnolia, Gloucester; just north of Manchester by the Sea.We will meet at 9 am in the Union Congregational Church chapel by the sea.3 Norman Ave, Gloucester, MACheck out all the information on our Events page:https://www.trinitynorthshore.org/eventsFollow the purple signs for Trinity North Shore along the main road. Ordinary Time - God Loves YouJoin us for Cn Tim Clayton's sermon:God Loves You, Hesed Pt. 9God's Love: God Remembers YouGod not only loves you, just as you are, but in his kind love, God remembers you. You are not forgotten. You are not forsaken. The times we live in are not easy, they are chaotic, it can be a challenge to not be overwhelmed by anger or grief or unrest.Yet, within our life, God's "hesed" love is the center, it is the place of courage and confidence, it's a place to stand in the chaos and confusion...Sometimes we have been told in our lives various sayings"God loves you, but…""God loves you, and…""God loves you, therefore…"But what if it's simpler, more profound, more powerful, more transforming, and more beautiful than that.God Loves YouWhat does this mean for you and me? It means EVERYTHING.God's love, God's faithfulness, God's mercy, God's grace, God's kindness, and God's loyalty.God not only loves you, just as you are, but in his kind love, God remembers you. You are not forgotten. You are not forsaken. In this fascinating sermon, Tim takes us through the scriptures and all of the times that God reminds us that He remembers us. From our reading Psalm 25 (4-18)Make me to know your ways, O Lord; teach me your paths. Lead me in your truth, and teach me, for you are the God of my salvation; for you I wait all day long.Be mindful of your mercy, O Lord, and of your steadfast love, for they have been from of old. Do not remember the sins of my youth or my transgressions; according to your steadfast love remember me, for your goodness’ sake, O Lord!Good and upright is the Lord; therefore he instructs sinners in the way. He leads the humble in what is right, and teaches the humble his way. All the paths of the Lord are steadfast love and faithfulness, for those who keep his covenant and his decrees. For your name’s sake, O Lord, pardon my guilt, for it is great. Who are they that fear the Lord? He will teach them the way that they should choose. They will abide in prosperity, and their children shall possess the land. The friendship of the Lord is for those who fear him, and he makes his covenant known to them.My eyes are ever towards the Lord, for he will pluck my feet out of the net.Turn to me and be gracious to me, for I am lonely and afflicted. Relieve the troubles of my heart, and bring me out of my distress. Consider my affliction and my trouble, and forgive all my sins.Trinity-Summer by the Sea!This June through September join us on Boston's North Shore in Magnolia, Gloucester; just north of Manchester by the Sea.We will meet at 9 am in the Union Congregational Church chapel by the sea.3 Norman Ave, Gloucester, MACheck out all the information on our Events page:https://www.trinitynorthshore.org/eventsFollow the purple signs for Trinity North Shore along the main road. God Loves You, Hesed Pt. 8: God's Love: Simple, Deep, Foundational, Unspoiled
Ordinary Time - God Loves YouJoin us for Cn Tim Clayton's sermon:God Loves You, Hesed Pt. 8God's Love: Simple, Deep, Foundational, UnspoiledThe times we live in are not easy, they are chaotic, it can be a challenge to not be overwhelmed by anger or grief or unrest.Yet, within our life, God's "hesed" love is the center, it is the place of courage and confidence, it's a place to stand in the chaos and confusion...Join us as Tim continues our summer series on God's Love: God Loves You - HesedSometimes we have been told in our lives various sayings"God loves you, but…""God loves you, and…""God loves you, therefore…"But what if it's simpler, more profound, more powerful, more transforming, and more beautiful than that.God Loves YouWhat does this mean for you and me? It means EVERYTHING.God's love, God's faithfulness, God's mercy, God's grace, God's kindness, and God's loyalty.God's intense love for us cannot be overtaken even by a whole nation of people. God is always working in and throughout history, and there is nothing nor anyone who can stop the work of His love for each one of us.God is everywhere, in ALL things, holding EVERYTHING together, and yet God is also immediately close to each one of us.Simple and clear, simple and deep, simple and unspoiled, simple and foundational. We need somewhere good and beautiful and true where we can stand and center ourselves.Hesed is what the psalms are written about in the first place. People write poems about great love. The psalmist ends with:As for me, I will be vindicated and will see your face; when I awake, I will be satisfied with seeing your likeness. Our deepest identity is to behold the face of God. To also recognize the likeness of Christ in one another. As we've done to the least of these, we've done unto Jesus. We continue our look at God's "hesed" love as we look at the reading from Psalm 17.I call on you, my God, for you will answer me; turn your ear to me and hear my prayer.Show me the wonders of your great love, you who save by your right hand those who take refuge in you from their foes.Keep me as the apple of your eye; hide me in the shadow of your wingsfrom the wicked who are out to destroy me, from my mortal enemies who surround me.Trinity-Summer by the Sea!This June through August join us on Boston's North Shore in Magnolia, Gloucester; just north of Manchester by the Sea.We will meet at 9 am in the Union Congregational Church chapel by the sea.3 Norman Ave, Gloucester, MAIt's a beautiful chapel, just the right size, in a lovely location by the sea, as well as an outdoor playground for our young families and for those young at heart. Their inheritance will endure forever, thanks to God's boundless, redeeming, hesed love.We continue our look at God's "hesed" love as we look at the reading from Psalm 37.Your love, Lord, reaches to the heavens, your faithfulness to the skies. Your righteousness is like the highest mountains, your justice like the great deep. You, Lord, preserve both people and animals. How priceless is your unfailing love, O God! People take refuge in the shadow of your wings. They feast on the abundance of your house; you give them drink from your river of delights. For with you is the fountain of life; in your light we see light. Let their intrigues be their downfall.Banish them for their many sins, for they have rebelled against you.But let all who take refuge in you be glad; let them ever sing for joy.Spread your protection over them, that those who love your name may rejoice in you.Surely, Lord, you bless the righteous; you surround them with your favor as with a shield.Trinity-Summer by the Sea!This June through August join us on Boston's North Shore in Magnolia, Gloucester; just north of Manchester by the Sea.We will meet at 9 am in the Union Congregational Church chapel by the sea.3 Norman Ave, Gloucester, MAIt's a beautiful chapel, just the right size, in a lovely location by the sea, as well as an outdoor playground for our young families and for those young at heart. The Holy Trinity - The Triune Nature of God
Trinity SundayJoin us for Cn Tim Clayton's sermon:The Holy Trinity - The Triune Nature of GodWe tend to think of "trinity" as a concept or explanation.Maybe that's understandable in a way.The early followers of Christ came to experience it in this way.Maybe we can say that "trinity" was an observation of the early church patriarchs and matriarchs, but that isn't "explanation".Sometimes it helps to understand where the church put Trinity Sunday on the church calendar.Easter, Ascension, Pentecost, and Trinity Sunday. How does understanding the Triune nature of God help us to walk in our authentic and true selves?Join us as Tim guides us down an interesting look at the Triune nature of God.From the gospel reading in John 16:But now I am going to him who sent me; yet none of you asks me, ‘Where are you going?’ But because I have said these things to you, sorrow has filled your hearts. Nevertheless I tell you the truth: it is to your advantage that I go away, for if I do not go away, the Advocate will not come to you; but if I go, I will send him to you. And when he comes, he will prove the world wrong about sin and righteousness and judgment: about sin, because they do not believe in me; about righteousness, because I am going to the Father and you will see me no longer; about judgment, because the ruler of this world has been condemned.“I still have many things to say to you, but you cannot bear them now. When the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all the truth; for he will not speak on his own, but will speak whatever he hears, and he will declare to you the things that are to come. He will glorify me, because he will take what is mine and declare it to you. All that the Father has is mine. For this reason I said that he will take what is mine and declare it to you.Trinity-Summer by the Sea!This June through August join us on Boston's North Shore in Magnolia, Gloucester; just north of Manchester by the Sea.We will meet at 9 am in the Union Congregational Church chapel by the sea.3 Norman Ave, Gloucester, MAIt's a beautiful chapel, just the right size, in a lovely location by the sea, as well as an outdoor playground for our young families and for those young at heart. With a Breath, Humanity is Reset | Pentecost Sunday
Pentecost SundayJoin us for Cn Tim Clayton's sermon:With a Breath, Humanity is Reset | Pentecost SundayIn this fascinating sermon, Tim reminds us of the story God in the scriptures. From the beginning of creation through to Pentecost. Colossians tells us that all of creation was made by Him (Jesus) and through Him (Jesus Christ). And in the gospel of John, as Jesus sends his disciples out with peace, he breathes on them saying, "receive the Holy spirit" The Holy Spirit of God comes to heal and fulfill you.Jesus breathes on his disciples and says, "receive the Holy Spirit", the same way that in creation, God breathed life into Adam and Eve.A beautiful reminder that being filled with God's spirit fills us and changes us into our always intended and beautiful selves. From our reading today from Paul's letter to the church in Rome (chapter 8)But you are not in flesh, but rather in spirit, since God’s Spirit dwells in you. But if one does not have the Spirit of the Anointed, this one is not his. But, if the Anointed is in you, the body is dead on account of sin, and yet the spirit is life on account of uprightness. But if the Spirit of the one who has raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, he who raised the Anointed One Jesus from the dead will also make your mortal bodies live through the indwelling of his Spirit in you. So then, brothers, we are indebted not to the flesh, to live according to flesh. For if you live according to the flesh, you are about to die; but, if you put the deeds of the body to death by spirit, you will live. For as many as are led by God’s Spirit, these are God’s children. For you did not receive again a spirit of slavery to fear, but rather received a spirit of adoption in which we cry, “Abba, Father!” The Spirit itself testifies along with our spirit that we are God’s children. Not only this, but even we ourselves, having the firstfruits of the spirit, groan within ourselves as well, anxiously awaiting adoption, emancipation of our body. For in hope we have been saved, but a hope seen is not hope; for why hope for what one sees? But, if we hope for what we do not see, we anticipate by perseverance. And likewise the spirit also gives us aid in our infirmity; for we do not know what we ought to pray for, but the spirit itself makes intercession with unutterable groans, And he who searches out the heart knows what the spirit’s mind is, for in accord with God it makes intercession on behalf of the holy ones.Trinity-Summer by the Sea!This June through August join us on Boston's North Shore in Magnolia, Gloucester; just north of Manchester by the Sea.We will meet at 9 am in the Union Congregational Church chapel by the sea.3 Norman Ave, Gloucester, MAIt's a beautiful chapel, just the right size, in a lovely location by the sea, as well as an outdoor playground for our young families and for those young at heart. The Promise, Ascension Day
Ascension DayJoin us for Cn Tim Clayton's sermon:The Promise, Ascension DayAscension DayWhat is it?How do we think about this moment in the story of Jesus? What did the early Christians understand about the Ascension of Jesus? What is it that Jesus is promising?Join us for this unique and fascinating sermon as we look at the work of Jesus, and his invitation into walking together with God.From our Gospel reading in Luke 24:Then he said to them, ‘These are my words that I spoke to you while I was still with you—that everything written about me in the law of Moses, the prophets, and the psalms must be fulfilled.’ Then he opened their minds to understand the scriptures, and he said to them, ‘Thus it is written, that the Messiah is to suffer and to rise from the dead on the third day, and that repentance and forgiveness of sins is to be proclaimed in his name to all nations, beginning from Jerusalem. You are witnesses of these things. And see, I am sending upon you what my Father promised; so stay here in the city until you have been clothed with power from on high.’Then he led them out as far as Bethany, and, lifting up his hands, he blessed them. While he was blessing them, he withdrew from them and was carried up into heaven. And they worshipped him, and returned to Jerusalem with great joy; and they were continually in the temple blessing God.Trinity-Summer by the Sea!This June through August join us on Boston's North Shore in Magnolia, Gloucester; just north of Manchester by the Sea.We will meet at 9 am in the Union Congregational Church chapel by the sea.3 Norman Ave, Gloucester, MAIt's a beautiful chapel, just the right size, in a lovely location by the sea, as well as an outdoor playground for our young families and for those young at heart. The Resurrection is not just an event, The Resurrection is a person, Jesus, God with us.Is resurrection ONLY a hope for the next life? Or does Jesus, The Resurrection, offer us hope in this life also? From our Gospel reading today in John chapter 13:“A new command I give you: Love one another. In the same way I loved you, you love one another. Easter Week 4: Jesus, Release Me
4th Sunday of Easter Tide.Join us for Cn Tim Clayton's sermon:Jesus, Release Me"I AM The Resurrection", JesusThis Easter Tide Season we are Walking in the joy of the Resurrection. The Resurrection is not just an event, The Resurrection is a person, Jesus, God with us.Is resurrection ONLY a hope for the next life? Or does Jesus, The Resurrection, offer us hope in this life also?"Jesus, release me..."Has this ever been your prayer?"Lord, please do something in my heart that's deep enough to release me from the wrongs I have done, and those wrongs done to me.."In the movie, The MissionMendoza has tragically killed his brother out of honor which was allowed by law, but for him, there’s no redemption; there's no coming back from such an awful moment. Mendoza says to the priest, "You know what I am..."The priest replies to a heartbroken Mendoza, "Yes. You are a mercenary. You are a slave trader. And you killed your brother. I know. And you loved him." What do you do in the spaces where the law can’t touch you, but you know you’ve done wrong. What do we do with those things we carry inside of us that we know we’ve done wrong…or those wrongs done to us by others?Acts Chapter 13:Paul explains…Through this man Jesus, everything you’ve done that nobody knows, you have been freed. How do we get freed from the things Moses law can’t release us from? How do we come to be released?Paul continues,“You Israelites, and others who fear God, listen.“My brothers, you descendants of Abraham’s family, and others who fear God, to us the message of this salvation has been sent. Because the residents of Jerusalem and their leaders did not recognize him or understand the words of the prophets that are read every sabbath, they fulfilled those words by condemning him. Even though they found no cause for a sentence of death, they asked Pilate to have him killed. When they had carried out everything that was written about him, they took him down from the tree and laid him in a tomb. But God raised him from the dead; and for many days he appeared to those who came up with him from Galilee to Jerusalem, and they are now his witnesses to the people. And we bring you the good news that what God promised to our ancestors he has fulfilled for us, their children, by raising Jesus; as also it is written in the second psalm,‘You are my Son; today I have begotten you.’As to his raising him from the dead, no more to return to corruption, he has spoken in this way,‘I will give you the holy promises made to David.’Therefore he has also said in another psalm,‘You will not let your Holy One experience corruption.’Trinity-Summer by the Sea!This June through August join us on Boston's North Shore in Magnolia, Gloucester; just north of Manchester by the Sea.We will meet at 9 am in the Union Congregational Church chapel by the sea.3 Norman Ave, Gloucester, MAIt's a beautiful chapel, just the right size, in a lovely location by the sea, as well as an outdoor playground for our young families and for those young at heart. Easter Week 3: Is This Our Road to Emmaus Moment?
3rd Sunday of Easter Tide.Join us for Matt Vaselkiv's sermon:Is This Our Road to Emmaus Moment?"I AM The Resurrection", JesusThis Easter Tide Season we are Walking in the joy of the Resurrection. The Resurrection is not just an event, The Resurrection is a person, Jesus Christ. Is resurrection ONLY a hope for the next life? Or does Jesus, The Resurrection, offer us hope in this life also?Is this our Road to Emmaus Moment? Our God is Emmanuel, God with us, loving and compassionate, who walks with us and meets us in moments of great need, even when we least expect it. Sometimes the story of our life looks like it's heading in a direction that seems unexpected, or maybe in a way that leaves us feeling hopeless, confused, disillusioned. When what is happening today in our country and culture is not what we imagined or hoped for, we pray that we can have the humility and curiosity to recognize Jesus as he meets us in this moment. From our scripture today in the Gospel of Luke:Now on that same day two of them were going to a village called Emmaus, about seven miles from Jerusalem, and talking with each other about all these things that had happened. While they were talking and discussing, Jesus himself came near and went with them, but their eyes were kept from recognizing him. And he said to them, “What are you discussing with each other while you walk along?” They stood still, looking sad. Then one of them, whose name was Cleopas, answered him, “Are you the only stranger in Jerusalem who does not know the things that have taken place there in these days?” He asked them, “What things?” They replied, “The things about Jesus of Nazareth, who was a prophet mighty in deed and word before God and all the people, and how our chief priests and leaders handed him over to be condemned to death and crucified him. But we had hoped that he was the one to redeem Israel. Yes, and besides all this, it is now the third day since these things took place. Moreover, some women of our group astounded us. They were at the tomb early this morning, and when they did not find his body there, they came back and told us that they had indeed seen a vision of angels who said that he was alive. Some of those who were with us went to the tomb and found it just as the women had said; but they did not see him.” Then he said to them, “Oh, how foolish you are, and how slow of heart to believe all that the prophets have declared! Was it not necessary that the Messiah should suffer these things and then enter into his glory?” Then beginning with Moses and all the prophets, he interpreted to them the things about himself in all the scriptures.Trinity-Summer by the Sea!This June through August join us on Boston's North Shore in Magnolia, Gloucester; just north of Manchester by the Sea.We will meet at 9 am in the Union Congregational Church chapel by the sea.3 Norman Ave, Gloucester, MAIt's a beautiful chapel, just the right size, in a lovely location by the sea, as well as an outdoor playground for our young families and for those young at heart. Easter Week 2: Jesus, IS the Resurrection
2nd Sunday of Easter Tide.Join us for Mother Jen Kiefer's sermon:Jesus, IS the Resurrection"I AM The Resurrection", JesusThis Easter Tide Season we are Walking in the joy of the Resurrection. The Resurrection is not just an event, The Resurrection is a person, Jesus, God with us.Is resurrection ONLY a hope for the next life? Or does Jesus, The Resurrection, offer us hope in this life also? The apostles understood the Resurrection as something much more "here and now and always". For their time, our time, and for our grandkids and every generation and time. Sometimes Western Christianity disconnects faith from the real world. But Christ is not a "pie in the sky, bye and bye". Jesus is God with us now and always. The Holy Spirit is the Spirit of Jesus, God with us.The Resurrection is not just an event, The Resurrection is a person, Jesus, God with us.In our lifetime, many leaders have followed the teachings and actions of Jesus.Including Pastor John Lewis and Reverend Martin Luther King Jr."Everything you do should communicate love and forgiveness for our oppressor, our goal is to set them free, through love and forgiveness.""If they strike you on the cheek, offer them the other"...JesusWhat will this living Resurrection mean for your life today, this week, this year; as you go out to do the good work that He has given you to do?From our Reading in Acts of the Apostles 2,When the high priest and those with him arrived, they called together the council and the whole body of the elders of Israel, and sent to the prison to have them brought. But when the temple police went there, they did not find them in the prison; so they returned and reported, “We found the prison securely locked and the guards standing at the doors, but when we opened them, we found no one inside.” Now when the captain of the temple and the chief priests heard these words, they were perplexed about them, wondering what might be going on. Then someone arrived and announced, “Look, the men whom you put in prison are standing in the temple and teaching the people!” Then the captain went with the temple police and brought them, but without violence, for they were afraid of being stoned by the people. When they had brought them, they had them stand before the council. The high priest questioned them, saying, “We gave you strict orders not to teach in this name, yet here you have filled Jerusalem with your teaching and you are determined to bring this man’s blood on us.” But Peter and the apostles answered, “We must obey God rather than any human authority"Sunday MorningsJoin us Sunday Mornings at 10 am on Boston's North Shore in Hamilton, MA. Easter: Because of Love
Easter Sunday:Because of Love, Death Had No Right to Hold HimWhy does Jesus, a man from Galilee over 2000 years ago, deserve such adoration even in times of great loss and sorrow? Why does this adoration work? Why does it bring healing and peace to those worshipers? Why does he deserve this adoration?Because of his wounds.Jesus walked in solidarity with the pain of the world, in solidarity with the pain caused by empire. In Jesus, God participated in the pain of the world. In the pain of each one of us.In Jesus, God said, "let the last be first."Jesus is alive because of love, because he gave himself so completely and unconditionally out of love, that death had no right to hold him.Sunday MorningsJoin us Sunday Mornings at 10 am on Boston's North Shore in Hamilton, MA. Lent 5: Working to Heal Social Divisions
Lent Week 5Join us for Mother Wendy's sermon:Working to Heal Social DivisionsThis Lent Season we are talking about healing the flaws, schisms and tears within us.Week 1- How do we heal our inner flaws and become a more whole person, as God intended us to be.Week 2 - How prayer helps us to heal. Week 3 - Can we always be the same person? Am I consistent in who God has made me to be? Or do I act differently, depending on the situation?Week 4 - Generosity; How do we become whole hearted, integrated beings in a culture that's pointed towards fragmentation, division, and loneliness?Week 5 - Working to Heal Social DivisionsThis week we broaden the lens and look at working to heal schisms of social divisions - based in race, present or historical- based in class- based on where one was lucky enough to be born.We have an incredible opportunity to work together with our neighbors and to walk with them through anything they may be going through.Paul says when we engage these things in the Name of Jesus in LOVE then we are joining Jesus in his sacrifice and his sufferings to bring a new world. Are there other hurting people in my world (beyond the ones I already know and care for) for whom God is calling me to sacrifice? How can I bring a loving, caring boldness into the contexts where God places me?We pray that you would know the goodness of God, revealed to us in Christ Jesus.Sunday MorningsJoin us Sunday Mornings at 10 am on Boston's North Shore in Hamilton, MA. Lent 4: Connecting in a Fragmented Culture
Lent Week 4Join us for Mother Jen Keifer's sermon:Connecting in a Fragmented CultureThis Lent Season we are talking about healing the flaws, schisms and tears within us.Week 1- How do we heal our inner flaws and become a more whole person, as God intended us to be.Week 2 - How prayer helps us to heal. Week 3 - Can we always be the same person? Am I consistent in who God has made me to be? Or do I act differently, depending on the situation?Week 4- How do we become whole hearted, integrated beings in a culture that's pointed towards fragmentation, division, and loneliness?ConnectionHow do we connect when our entire culture is filled with connecting with things rather than with God, our neighbor, and God's creation? How do we allow the spiritual disciplines of Lent, prayer, fasting, alms-giving; to lead us into this wholeness, rather than just having more things "to do" in a culture already filled with "to-do lists"?From our gospel reading in Matthew 6:Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust consume and where thieves break in and steal; but store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust consumes and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. The eye is the lamp of the body. So, if your eye is healthy, your whole body will be full of light; but if your eye is unhealthy, your whole body will be full of darkness. If then the light in you is darkness, how great is the darkness! No one can serve two masters; for a slave will either hate the one and love the other, or be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and wealth. We pray that you would know the goodness of God, revealed to us in Christ Jesus.Sunday MorningsJoin us Sunday Mornings at 10 am on Boston's North Shore in Hamilton, MA.
