Assault on Antares is an electronic music, 10 track EP composed by Troy Sterling Nies. “This is a mash-up of styles from the 70-80s with a dash of contemporary electronic seasoning. I was inspired by my early exposure to electronic music with groups such as Tangerine Dream, Kitaro, Synergy, Brian Eno, Vangelis, Steve Roach and more. Growing up in the 70’s-80’s exposed me to the renaissance of electronic music and the dawn of video games and home computers (Commodore 64 was my cpu). I have very vivid and fond memories of the arcade halls lined with video game consoles such as GORF, WIZARD OF WOR, TRON, BATTLEZONE and many, many more. I had an ATARI 2600 (still do and it works!) and logged countless hours trying to master those games. All the while, the music of the electronic greats whirled through my head or were on the turn table or cassette deck while I played the games - a sort of do-it-yourself soundtrack by the means that I had at that time. Now that the tools are available, I’ve been ‘playing in the aural sandbox’ so to speak and am happy to be able to release some my electronic music mind experiments with the influences and experiences mentioned above. I've teamed up with visual artist John Liposhak (visual FX for CALIGULA: THE ULTIMATE CUT) and he is currently creating a visual-video component for the music. Stay tuned for more! I hope you enjoy the journey.” - Troy Sterling Nies, composer OCT2023 credits released November 1, 2023 Composed and mixed by Troy Sterling Nies

    Absolute Power Corrupts

This music was inspired by the recent premiere and CANNES 2023 OFFICIAL SELECTION: CALIGULA: THE ULTIMATE CUT. You can see the film September 24th at Fantastic Fest in Austin, TX and late September at Beyond Fest in Los Angeles, CA. While this track is not in the movie, the instrumentation, sound palette and feel is directly inspired by the film. I composed the film score with a hybrid palette in mind, using organic instruments, percussion as well as found sound, audio manipulation and vintage analog synthesizers. I was posed with the question - what would the score sound like if they composed it in 1979-1980 using the above sound palette with modern-listener and viewer sensibilities?
