What makes me happy?
Read and Comment HereThe theme of ‘contentment’ has been swirling around me a lot lately.* Popping up in videos I watch.* Books I’m reading.* Quotes I’ve been sent.* and in my own mental meandering. It’s a topic I want to dive deeper into in my next series/book here, but today this simple question popped into my head:What makes me happy?I’m reading this awesome rom com called: Four Weekends and a Funeral- and it sparked a lot of thoughts that I shared here.I’ve put what makes me happy in the comments- I’d love to hear what makes you happy too↓ This is a public episode. If the internet went away today… what would you create?
Read and Comment HereI think about purpose, mission, tactile creations and “what’s the point of it all?” a lot…. My recent week no exception.I’m constantly trying to make sense of the online space and where I can add true support vs. adding to the consumerism and “more” culture we live in. Carefully making sure I’m not making because there’s a market for it but making because there’s a genuine need I can fill and a spark within me to create it.So when this question: “If the internet went away today… what would I do/create in our town?” popped into my mind- I got giddy!Doesn’t it sound so fun to imagine your creative expression, IRL… what form it would have taken before the internet… and to hear the community’s creative answers too??There’s something so grounding about bringing the online space into the tangible present for me. About finding ways to take this abstract concept of the internet and balance it out with what we can touch and share. I’m beyond grateful for what the internet offers and has allowed me to create- and I’m also constantly looking for balance here. Now to you- what would your online creations look like IRL? Is unlimited really all it's cracked up to be?
Join the Poll or Read Here* We can go anywhere.* We can do anything.* We can watch whatever we want.* Read whatever we want.* Listen to whatever we want.* Eat whatever we want.* Anytime. Any place. But let’s be real… it’s a lot. It’s overwhelming + exhausting. A never-ending cycle of one decision after another. No wonder I feel decision fatigued.Don’t get me wrong- I’m grateful to have choices. To tailor my life to what works specifically for me, what I enjoy most, etc. etc.But there’s just something about the concept of: Confinement in my decisions- that’s resonating right now. What constitutes as rest?
This is a free preview of a paid episode. To hear more, visit tuningin.substack.comRead or Join the Creative Co-op HereIn my recent therapy sessions, we’ve uncovered multiple parts of me asking for rest. But the thing is… I feel like I have been resting- more than I ever have before if I’m being honest. I’ve been: watercoloring, reading fiction, watching videos and shows that make me laugh and snowboarding- often. So I found myself questioning: Then what constitutes as rest? What else can I be doing to rest? Because doing more feels scary- like now I'm not doing anything at all. Then I took to ChatGPT and had a lovely conversation that deepened my minimalist practice and might help you too↓I'm sharing it inside my Staying Minimal SeriesMaintaining less, to access more of life’s simple luxuries.Join us to unlock thoughtful prompts + candid conversations around: creativity, decluttering, financial minimalism, time stewardship and intentional decision making to support the daily rhythms you desire. For intentional creatives craving not just a simpler home, but a simpler way of being — where your actions align with your dream life.Join the Creative Co-op HereView the Staying Minimal series here.

When you don't have something to say
Read or Comment HereIt’s been 3 weeks since I’ve created here on Substack. Why? Because:* I haven’t had much to say here lately.* I did have a lot to say in one of my products (so I spent a full day updating that instead.)* And we’ve entered a new chapter in our family- so the rest of my time and attention has been funneled there. It wasn’t until today- when my dad had the kids, my husband was out of town and I had a second to ground in that I realized- I feel ok with not having created for this publication recently. Not because I don’t care. Not because I don’t want to create here.… But because I want to share when I actually have something to share. For me, becoming a creative today means intentionally putting up my blinders.* It means tuning into what’s right for me and tuning out the rest.* It means leaning into the edit, intentionality and seeing that less can be just as beautiful as more.* And the hardest part of all- ignoring the shoulds and not comparing my intuition to today’s current “best practices.”I think there’s something beautiful, novel, and maybe even old-school about creating when you’re inspired versus creating for a schedule. I love the idea that seeing my message in your inbox- triggers you to think “Oh- if Megan just sent something she must really have something to say.”Maybe that’s my perfectionism talking? Maybe that’s just what works for my creativity? Either way- I wanted to add another piece out there normalizing that we don’t need to create all the time to create something meaningful.* Sometimes resting and doing other things,* Going against “best practices” and formulating something really potent.* Or having nothing to say at all and being silent- speaks more loudly. And while I do have plenty of things I plan to create here- they’re still whispers. They’re not yelling at me to come out. So I’m letting them grow instead of forcing them to.Maybe you can relate too? Have you been doing something else instead of creating? Leave a comment and let us know.If you enjoyed this piece you might also like:* What if I approached this all as the ‘Megan Moran Magazine?* Exploring Essence Boards 🎨* Clearing the noise around how I create This is a public episode. Clearing the noise around how I create
This is a free preview of a paid episode. To hear more, visit tuningin.substack.comRead, Comment or Join the Creative Co-op HereI was sitting at a cafe a couple weeks ago with the kids… feeling ungrounded… spiraling as per usual with all of my creative ideas.I firmly believe my brain transforms into the egg scrambler ride sometimes: I’ll have an idea I’m excited about and then another idea and then a to-do list item comes to the forefront and eventually they all circle their way back- front and center. So to help myself feel grounded during this particular chaotic spiral… I found myself grabbing a piece of paper and a pen (a comment card to be exact because that’s all that was around) and I got to organizing. It’s my go-to process when I’m feeling overwhelmed:* Write down what I’m thinking about.* Clear out any clutter that’s no longer serving me.* And with less in front of me… I can breathe again and focus on what matters most.I circle back to this minimalist practice often… and instead of adding to the wild ride … it slows the ride down (typically to a stop.)As I was going through this process I ended up drawing a little diagram. An ecosystem of sorts that helped me understand my creative impulses. And it felt like an exhale. With this diagram in mind now, creating feels so much more relaxed and grounded. I can visually see the rhythm that intuitively drives me. And I don’t feel the urge to force myself into that rhythm for consistencies sake… Instead this simple guide has helped me realign myself when I’m ungrounded. And I wanted to share this process inside our co-op so you can access this exhale too↓Staying Minimal: A series focused on on maintaining less, to access more of life’s simple luxuries.Join us to unlock thoughtful prompts + candid conversations around: creativity, decluttering, financial minimalism, time stewardship and intentional decision making to support the daily rhythms you desire. For intentional creatives craving not just a simpler home, but a simpler way of being — where your actions align with your dream life.View the Staying Minimal series here.

Feeling excited about where you are
Read or Comment Here…. I’ve never really cared much about the snow.I’ve lived in Ohio most of my life, so:* I’m used to it.* It doesn’t bother me….* buttttt I’ve always been a “give me a white Christmas and then bring on the warmer weather” kind of girl.Until I tried snowboarding last week…As I’ve been sharing this latest obsession with friends and family, it dawned on me just how much everything is always working out for us.We’ve lived elsewhere before and chose to move back to our hometown. While traveling certainly makes new things appear when we come back. Throwing this new love into the mix has made me realize, more than ever, how lucky we are to live here. Right where we already are. It’s like I’m seeing all the possibilities that were already within arms reach for the first time.I think that’s what’s been so magical about this experience. That everything was already right here for me… before I even knew I wanted it.It’s comforting to know that sometimes the right things find us…even when we don’t see them (for years) or know where they will fit.Ultimately it made me soften, to feel excited and grateful for what’s around me and has inspired me to open my eyes more. To trust more and keep following those intuitive nudges.Have you ever felt this sensation?Leave a comment This is a public episode. When your husband asks for wardrobe help...
This is a free preview of a paid episode. To hear more, visit tuningin.substack.comRead or Comment HereBefore sharing my intentional, creative life here- I had my own wardrobe styling company.✨ (If you’re curious about it- here are some articles on my styling days.)It’s why my friends + family often ask my thoughts on outfits and fashion. But the biggest compliment is when Collin asks me for help. He (actually) trusts me to equip him with high-level advice (instead of just dressing him) so he can confidently choose pieces that excite him.He recently decided to invest in his wardrobe too, but after shopping online he felt a little scrambled and like something was missing. He asked me to:* take a look at his shopping carts* see how versatile the pieces he picked are (i.e. do mix + match well?)* confirm what was worth investing in* and let him know if there’s anything else he needsIt was a “put me in coach!” kind of moment and afterwards I realized that the approach I took to help him find his answer… is a universal principle I use to make decision making simpler throughout my day.So I thought I’d share the 3 step approach I took to intentionally add to his wardrobe (+ how it translates into my every day life) inside my Staying Minimal Series↓Maintaining less, to access more of life’s simple luxuries.Join us to unlock thoughtful prompts + candid conversations around: decluttering, financial minimalism, time stewardship and intentional decision making to support the daily rhythms you desire. For intentional creatives craving not just a simpler home, but a simpler way of being — where your actions align with your dream life.Join Our Creative Co-Op

Why I'm investing in my wardrobe (for the first time ever)
Read or Comment HereIn a previous life… my world was: fashion.I was a:* wardrobe stylist* mobile boutique owner* personal shopper* and closet cleansing maniacAnd my closet reflected that (in my own way.)But one thing I didn’t focus on at the time was longevity.I bought well but I didn’t invest. I didn’t think about how many years I could take care of a piece. How it would support me long term. I just thought about what matched my style at that moment. And then I met this little silk dress… and everything changed. I’d never felt so good in something. I put it on and was like “woah….” I looked at myself differently. And it got me thinking about investing… in pieces that last longer than a season or one event. It shifted the way I looked at my wardrobe… and left me with an urge to fully invest in it.To stop buying fast fashion that works just for this season and start thinking “like a Parisian.” Like someone who sees wardrobe-building as a lifelong curation, not a constant sport of shopping. So here’s what I did about it:- Want to see the 32 things I recently got rid of? Click here- Rose 2-Way Cardigan | White Bodysuit | Navy Cardigan | Striped Sweater- Bennet Fur Lined Boots | Evelyn Heeled Booties- The other brand I considered was Blundstone but felt like the Toms style was more me.- I also grabbed these cute new tennies to replace my worn out ones.- I was at a trade show for my mom’s business and came across this amazing booth.>> I’d love to here your take in the comments P.S. Finding "balance" between the traditional and non-traditional
This is a free preview of a paid episode. To hear more, visit tuningin.substack.comRead and comment hereWe just got back from trying on van life in Florida to celebrate Sophia’s 5th birthday and boy…. did we learn a lot.I was SO excited for this trip after becoming obsessed with the idea of traveling with a home on wheels.* I envisioned it.* I felt it.* I was open to it not being a fit for us.* But secretly… I was convinced the trip was going to be perfect. And before the trip even started… our plans changedWe’ve tuned in (😉) this year and realized we’ve been living the standard American life but prefer a more unconventional one- hence the getting intentional and living life without shoulds (like a talk about here.)As I processed the internal conflict I share in this episode over the course of two days, toggling between our adventurous van life trip and comfortable hotel stays, I was reminded that maintaining my minimalist lifestyle also includes: decluttering my old narratives.Somewhere along the way, those stories had stopped being guiding values…and had started becoming rules…. Rigid ones. Heavy ones.Minimalism isn’t just about owning fewer things. It’s about releasing the beliefs that weigh down your life just as much as clutter does. The truth is… choosing the aligned thing *in that moment*… that’s the definition of a minimalist lifestyle. Of one filled with what matters most to you. It’s not about rejecting one idea over another. It’s about staying honest about what actually supports the life we’re building. So I wanted to share this aha with you* how I’m maintaining my minimalism in regards to our lifestyle* And a few prompts that helped me identify the narratives that needed to be decluttered. You’ll find those inside↓Maintaining less, to access more of life’s simple luxuries.Join us inside the paid tier to unlock thoughtful prompts + candid conversations around: decluttering, financial minimalism, time stewardship and intentional decision making to support the daily rhythms you desire. For intentional creatives craving not just a simpler home, but a simpler way of being — where your actions align with your dream life.Click here for the journal prompts

I designed my dream camper van 🚐💨
See the pictures + Comment HereLately, I’ve been obsessing a little bit a lot a bit over tricked-out ‘Sprinter’ van conversions.Like I mentioned in my recent decluttering post- we love traveling + how it supports our minimalism practice…. plus worldschooling is our preferred way of learning. So we decided to try on the van life concept (for travel- not full-time living) by booking a camper van that we’ll travel around sunny Florida in for Sophia’s birthday. So I thought it’d be fun to share my latest obsession with you- van designs:Mentioned- The Sandy by Jorvik Van Conversions- Crozier Campers- pop top like we’ll be trying in FloridaYour turn! 32 things I got rid of after our recent trip
This is a free preview of a paid episode. To hear more, visit tuningin.substack.comView the Pictures + Join the Conversation HereEvery time we travel… I come home and am ready to halve our possessions. And that’s exactly what happened when we got back from our recent trip to Gatlinburg.Isn’t it funny how quickly our perspective can shift from a few days away?I often purge unnecessary items when I’m feeling overwhelmed. (You know that frantic…. That’s it! I can’t clean these walkie talkies and 20 pairs of kids socks up again! It’s gone!)…. That’s how our “If it’s on the ground it’s out of town” phrase was born🤣So I was surprised when we unpacked from our trip that I naturally started piling items up to donate. And then I thought about how much sense that made. The contrast between living out of a backpack and having the best time and then coming home to a house full of things that need me- makes for the perfect intentional motivation to clear things up.So I thought it’d be fun to share this new habit + everything I’m letting go of- post our recent trip- the perfect way to kick off my Staying Minimal Series!Maintaining less, to access more of life’s simple luxuries.Join us to unlock thoughtful prompts + candid conversations around: decluttering, financial minimalism, time stewardship and intentional decision making to support the daily rhythms you desire. For intentional creatives craving not just a simpler home, but a simpler way of being — where your actions align with your dream life.Join the Staying Minimal Series Here

When you're feeling overwhelmed by all that's around you...
Read, Join or Comment HereIn this month’s issue of the Tuning In Magazine (← print option now available✨) I announced our next Deeper Discussion series: Staying Miniman- How I'm Maintaining a Life with LessMy family has been living minimally for a while now. But as we’ve increased our travel- we’ve found ourselves overwhelmed by all we have once we get home. It’s made us crave a deepening in our practice. The thing is there’s not a lot about maintaining a lifestyle of less- just plenty of conversations about becoming a minimalist. Which is why I want to bridge the gap.If you’re thinking “I have no interest in living in a blank white room or getting rid of everything I own”- Good news! That’s not what I’ve found minimalism to be.👍🏻Minimalism has actually given me more.* More of what I crave.* And less of what I don’t truly want.As life shifts, seasons change, my kids grow and new hobbies and adventures come and go- minimalism has kept me intentional and aligned. Helping me become aware of how I’m filling my space and stewarding my money and time. It’s helped me create room in our home, my mind, our calendar and our bank account for what we truly want- instead of what we think we ‘should have.’It’s helped me answer the question: If I went through everything I currently own- would I choose that over the life I envision? So when it comes to this gap in the Minimalism conversation…I want to explore how I can challenge myself to stay minimal as a way to reach our dream life… today. That’s why I’m challenging myself to go deeper in my minimalism practice (and am inviting you to, too)Seeing what happens when I answer really hard and confronting questions around:* Financial Minimalism* Possessions Minimalism* Parenting Minimalism* Lifestyle Minimalism* Creative Minimalism* Time MinimalismMy goal is to unlock… less overwhelm and stress → in favor of more space and joy.Want to join me inside this new series?↓Join us here to unlock thoughtful prompts + candid conversations around: decluttering, financial minimalism, time stewardship and intentional decision making to support the daily rhythms you desire. For intentional creatives craving not just a simpler home, but a simpler way of being — where your actions align with your dream life. Can my creative practice still grow when I don’t 'water it' often?
This is a free preview of a paid episode. To hear more, visit tuningin.substack.comRead or Comment HereI haven't given my garden much attention this year. The pipe for the backyard hose burst this winter so to water it I had to fill a watering can 5+ times….. instead I often opted for the rain + Mother Nature to take care of it.Last year, tending to my garden became a daily form of meditation. It was an exciting new practice for me.And it felt simple, formulaic + basically guaranteed. All in all- my biggest takeaway when gardening last year was “This is magic! Can my creative work be simple and straightforward like this too??”I knew I wanted to keep gardening but this year we had other things going on.So while I did “plant the garden in a place with great sunlight” I didn’t often water it, protect it from pests- meaning not much was harvested. It just wasn’t my top priority- instead we were focusing on house stuff, unschooling the kids, learning how to support their emotional intelligence and big feelings and in the breaks- creating what feels good to me.Which brings me to my creative work….I'm not making space for my creative work everyday- or as often as I could probably create. I’m happy with my flow- that I’m not pressuring myself to create based on an arbitrary/societal schedule. And although I’m not creating in an urgent and uber frequent cadence- my creations are connecting with others (especially through passive systems- thank you Youtube + SEO!)…. And yet I feel like I have a lot in me that I want to create. (More growth I could get out of this season’s crops if you will.)So I found myself asking: Can my creative practice still grow when I don’t 'water it' often?Let’s talk this out in this episode...Journal prompts if you’re transitioning from a ‘watering less often’ season into a ‘watering more frequently’ one.

A New Way to Romanticize My Day
This is a free preview of a paid episode. To hear more, visit tuningin.substack.comWatch the Videos + Comment HereView all the journal prompts inside The Intentional Reset Guide hereBack in May my friend and I decided to challenge each other to create one thing a day for a week.* Only for us.* Only based on that day.* No pressure.* Just create it and share it with each other.I had felt this nudge for a while to take all of the videos I accumulated in a day and compile them into one so I had something to look back on.Because I’ve asked myself (on many occasions)…* What did I even do with the kids when they were X years old?* What did a day in our life look like?* Was I even there? Present? How did I show up?(Plus I’m always video dumping on my family each day and thought what if I gave them something fun that shows what we did?)So during this challenge, I rounded up the videos I had taken > found a template on Capcut with music that fit the vibe of the day > dropped them in and > (at first) enjoyed them just for myself. This simple challenge has become a relaxing gratitude practice not just throughout my day but at night too when I put the videos together as Sophia falls asleep next to me. It’s helped me find peace, awareness and presence in my days.…. Not to mention it’s a lot of fun. It’s helped me simplify my days- seeing what matters vs. the shoulds. Taking the videos only for myself- not for likes, applause or anyone else.So I thought you might want to create your own practice too↓The Intentional Reset Guide✨ is a collection of journal prompts that invite you to pause, reflect and take aligned steps toward a slower, more intentional life within a community of women craving more ease, presence, and intentionality- just like you.Join our community and receive access to this series of audio journal entries, thoughtful prompts, and gentle conversation starters as we declutter and simplify our worlds together. If you’d like to experiment with noticing your own life this way, here are the questions I’ve been reflecting on…

The Piece of Me I Thought I Left Behind
Read and Comment on the Poll HereGrowing up, fashion was always my thing. It was the story of who I was….…. and then I became a mom and my mindset shifted.I’ve spent these last 5 years excavating to find who I am: Intentionality and creativity definitely making up that core. And I feel like what I “left behind” nearly 5 years ago may have just been put on a shelf… waiting to be sparked back to life again…. in a new way.As I’ve been working on becoming more playful, remembering the parts of me that used to light me up and trying to bring that into the present, that spark was ignited again. So the question that’s been rattling around in my brain all day is: how do you reintegrate an old piece of your identity into your new way of being?Join our community + conversation here on Substack! A Creative Reset
This is a free preview of a paid episode. To hear more, visit tuningin.substack.comRead and join in the conversation hereView all the journal prompts inside The Intentional Reset Guide hereI’ve been craving a new creative rhythm lately— one that’s not reliant on perfect conditions. That’s free from compartmentalizing my mom life from my deep work sessions… I’ve been craving a rhythm that’s integrated into my life. And as synchronicity would have it - a youtube video popped up yesterday that brought this very topic up.I feel like I’ve lost the integration along the way.…. Ultimately making my creative expression feel separate from my day to day life.So this morning, I tried something new: a deep work session with my kids.* It wasn’t perfect (I was interrupted often including the moment I’m typing this) but I still got to write. They saw me in the practice. And even better- they got to feel the joy of deep creative flow too. THIS is what I want for myself, my kids and our family culture. For them to not just hear about me creating when they’re with the sitter or their grandparents. But for them to see me create and to be invited into this rhythm and practice too — as a relationship, a shared curiosity, a lifestyle. So today’s prompts offer a Creative Reset in how we think about + execute on our work. What if my businesses 'never worked out' because...
Read and comment hereI was driving the other day after dropping off the kids with my amazing mother-in-love. Windows down. Arm out- feeling the breeze as I cruised along listening to this (new to me) artist. When this phrase popped into my head:“What if my businesses ‘never worked out’ because I was meant to be doing this?”‘This’ being:* nurturing and unschooling my kids* being there to coach their tee ball team, teach a co-op class and run Lego club* to be- writing and sharing when it feels good, traveling and living my life more than finding ROI in my actionsI put ‘never worked out’ in quotes too because I do this often… I miss the greatness in the present (and past) striving for something bigger in the future. (when I could be having it right now.)I’ve been working on this. Not letting my perfectionism and conditioned way of being, take away from the joy I’m experiencing now.(receipts- my current lock screen)Because in all reality- my past businesses have worked out.Maybe not always in the way I was expecting- but certainly in the tools and knowledge I have today.* And better yet- it lead me to find the creative work that fuels me now.* The projects that I create only for me- not for public consumption. And the articles and courses I love to create and share for others too. This article from Amie McNee then landed in my inbox and felt like YES- THIS is what I’m talking about✨Maybe you relate? Maybe Definitely I’m processing this idea out loud. Comment and let us know here. This is a public episode. Is there such thing as too slow?
Watch and Comment HereRecently, I’ve found myself at a crossroads:* Feeling extremely tired (Like falling asleep for the night while putting the kids to bed… multiple days in a row?!… tired)* Craving a quiet life with less pressure* Learning how to live at a slower, more intentional pace* But I feel like I’ve only ever lived my life in burnout cycles…. so while slowing down has felt true to me…I’ve also found myself so scared to burnout again that I’ve been avoiding overworking (maybe to my detriment?)Battling what my body and soul feel is right with an old narrative that ‘it’s wrong.’One MAJOR difference between then and now is that my work fuels me (a factor I often forget) and that my days and time are more intentionally filled than ever. PLUS I’ve been working on integrating the deep work that fuels me throughout my day to day. But the mindset struggle is always real.So when April Edwards asked if I wanted to go live- I knew THIS was the topic for us to talk about.April recently published her book Subtle Resistance and when I read about her burnout story we knew we had to get together and honestly share. So in this conversation we held a deeper discussion about:* our experiences with burnout* if there’s a healthy way to push our limits* how we both want to avoid that hamster wheel* and ultimately, as intentional, slow living moms…. is there such thing as too slow?Love a good deep discussions- view the full archive here.Grab the templates April shared here. Read or Comment HereRecently I was laying in bed stressing about (I literally don’t even remember ‘what’ anymore) when I thought:“When is the only time everything makes sense?“You know those moments when you’re so present in what you’re doing that you’re no longer:* overthinking* worrying* anxious* stressedI was spiraling a bit today and that question came to my mind again- I wanted to answer it and thought you might too. When do I stop thinking and just am?This almost feels like one of those countdown calming exercises. I’m sure there’s more that’ll come to mind with this but the question feels like a marker. A prompt to ask myself when I feel like: “I don’t know what I’m doing with my life.”How about you? Designing your creative workspace 🌿 with Lyndsay Kaldor
Watch and Comment hereI believe: Our creative spaces are not only important for how we show up as storytellers but also for our storytelling…And I don’t believe: this equals overcomplicated. The best spaces to create in are the ones that feel vibey and supportive of the project you’re working on. Creating in a space that’s soulful and meaningful to you is universal. While creating my recent mini-course: Curating Your Creative Space I felt called to bring an outside expert in to share their perspective on design principles. And my friend Lyndsay Kaldor was just the right person to chat with. Not only does Lyndsay specialize in interiors PR but she also created an Atelier series on her Substack where she interviews creatives on their spaces. My favorites takeaways from our interview:* Making your anchors list* Finding the ritual within your space that supports your creations* Leaning into elemental + seasonal design* An introduction to Neuroaesthetics This is a public episode. What if fulfillment feels elusive... b/c we were never taught how to find it?

I went through all the ‘rites of passage,’ always striving to achieve the next thing.(I know it goes without saying but just for extra clarity… I’m SO happy and grateful for my life thus far💕)AND as I’ve slowed down, tuning into myself to figure out where I want to go next, I’ve really noticed that conveyor belt I’ve on. Since deciding to step off of it and live my life my way- filled with intention- it’s also given me the space to realize:Have I ever actually defined fulfillment for myself?Society gives us a blueprint to find fulfillment, it doesn’t necessarily teach us how to define it for ourselves. We’re conditioned to chase external success instead of tuning into what actually fulfills us….. no wonder it’s felt so challenging! It’s a muscle I’ve never truly strengthened before?!And I want to chat about this in community:* About- What happens when we finally step off autopilot?* And- How do we learn to listen to and trust ourselves after a lifetime of being told what fulfillment ‘should’ look like? You think, share and create deeply....Your conversations aren't surface level.... I never realized how hard being abundant is...
Read, comment and join our intentional creatives community here. The other day I was reading this beautiful piece by Laura Fenton about decluttering your house when you’re overwhelmed. And this phrase she used really stood out to me:Giving things away is recognition of the abundance in our lives, and each act of giving makes the gift economy stronger. The Gift EconomyLaura recommended I dive deeper into Robin Wall Kimmerer’s essay called The Serviceberry where she shares more on this concept and my mind was blown. Here’s what stood out to me and turned my mindset work (and business) on its head. What do you think about the gift economy? I was ready for a creative space of my own- something I could touch after 3 years creating online.Fast forward to today when a song brought back all of these memories from when I started- I chuckled to myself and thought…. I’m done waiting for my “big break”I’ve spent my entire life thinking this way.* Working towards this big amorphous “success” goal to ‘prove’ my work, worth and achievement.* That “See! My time and all of these sacrifices thus far weren’t for nothing. I’m not crazy. This did all abundantly pay off.”I’ve always been so focused on the end achievement that I’m now realizing… I’ve never really cultivated a practiceAn act I want to flow with everyday. Something I love and enjoy, regardless of the end result. Something for myself that also benefits others…. until Substack✨I’ve been learning this from the creative world and some amazing women in this space like Elin Petronella and Emma Gannon. And I still feel like I have a lot of work to do…. so my focus now (as cheesy as it seems) is on the process, the journey, tuning into myself, finding my ‘art’ and integrating it into my every day life. And in that process, redefining what success looks like for me.The end of this article shares examples of how I’m implementing this change in my life and you can too. I want to create something that lasts...
Read this article hereRSVP to the Deeper Discussion hereI was listening to a little music last night…* and that paired with Bianca Lea Morra’s phrase "over consumption leads to under creating"* + my friend Elin Petronella’s phrasing of "your creative practice starts with doing something you want to do no matter what- it's infused in your day"culminated in being smacked with a gripping feeling of "I NEED to create something that lasts- now."It was one of those gasping for air type of feelings!?Maybe…. creating something that lasts isn’t (just) about these major projects and points of impact but (more) about how we show up and spend each day. What we create out of the limited time we trade our 24 hours for. A step by step approach if you will…That's going to be my focus and takeaway from this 24 hour swirl…Asking myself: how can I make a lasting impact TODAY?Noticing the nudges and synchronicities as a new drive/deeper connection/experience with my creative work unfolds.I’m curious- How do you approach your days and impact on the world? What makes a home- a home?
This is a free preview of a paid episode. To hear more, visit tuningin.substack.comRead or watch hereThis weekend, we traveled to Hocking Hills to test out a tiny-ish home—not just to see if we could live in one, but to explore a bigger question: What truly makes a home? For weeks, we were convinced that building a home from scratch was the right path. But doubts crept in… should we renovate our current space or start fresh? Instead of staying in the hypothetical, we decided to try on our dream lifestyle—immersing ourselves in a space that reflects the life we want to live. 💭 The big realization? A home isn’t just about location or structure—it’s about creating a space that supports who you want to be. While we’re still undecided on our next move, one thing is clear: we want a life filled with family adventures, creativity, presence, and financial freedom. ✨ Watch as we experience tiny home living, reflect on what matters most, and ask the question: Who do I want to be? 🔔 Subscribe for more slow living, intentional lifestyle experiments, and creative family adventures! tuningin.substack.com🏡 Airbnb Info: https://www.airbnb.com/rooms/1242287631451687852?guests=1&adults=1&s=67&unique_share_id=fb502f21-23ab-4aed-8596-f347474092cf 📖 Read more on Substack: https://tuningin.substack.com/p/tiny-home-for-a-family-of-4

Releasing me from the semantic chains that came with the labels and titles I’ve carried around for years. It’s a fine line to toe between a title giving you freedom and clarity and it holding you back…. that’s when I came across this image on Pinterest.

What if I approached this all as the 'Megan Moran Magazine?'
This is a free preview of a paid episode. To hear more, visit tuningin.substack.comRead + Comment on this post here. It’s been one year since I started here on Substack and so much has changed:* I’ve stepped away from my rigid business mindset → realizing I’m a multi-passionate and that it is really, truly ok to share a bunch of different things. (An approach and profession I’ve never let myself consider before- partially because I never had a comfortable platform to do it on.)* I’ve stopped creating what I ”should” or what “is working right now” → instead creating what I love, what inspires me and honestly what just feels good and seems ridiculously fun.* And most drastically we’ve been slowly leaving behind a traditional lifestyle → to prioritize travel, minimalism, learning through living (unschooling,) time spent together and a creative lifestyle that feels more in alignment for us.Ultimately I feel like this year has brought awareness. Allowing me to notice:* Who I am* What I want (versus what society has told me I need)* and how to ‘tune into’ (😉) that feeling within myself and take aligned action from that place.Which brings me to this journaling sesh I wrote out yesterday…and how I practically plan to let go of these blocks I’ve put up to radically embrace my multi-passionate self (+ new slow, creative lifestyle) ✨

Why do our couches face walls instead of windows?
Read this article and join our community here. Why is it that…* In all of the homes we’ve owned and renovated.* In most of the spaces I save on Pinterest.* In a lot of the Airbnb’s and short terms rentals we’ve stayed in.….. the furniture faces away from nature. Typically oriented towards the wall? For me, I know it’s been about the TV.Don’t worry- this is not a technology rant (but it does feel like a subtle commentary on what we’ve subconsciously been deeming as most important- right?)As I’ve been slowing down, getting more intentional and tuning into myself - I’ve also noticed a pull to pivot my priorities, the way I’m spending my time and to bring the outside in.And that’s the point. As we’ve been living in our house more- not just using it as a landing pad to crash in at the end of the day, I’m realizing that there is so much more out there that I’m often missing.I don’t want to get so wrapped up in the things around me that I miss the beauty in front of me (in so many ways- more than just my view at home but in my mothering and creative expression too.✨)This beautiful world we’re creating within our home belongs intertwined with and expanded by the world outside too. That’s why we’re focusing on debt-free living, traveling and being out in nature more when we are home.So as we’re designing our dream tiny-ish house…Here’s what I’m doing differently- how I’m intentionally creating our space our way.And if you didn’t check out my recent post on why we’re going debt free you can read all about it here.So now I’m curious….👇🏻 How are you creating your space, your way?I’d love to hear your thoughts in the comments and see pictures of your favorite rooms in your home! It’s so fun to see design examples and share in community:Leave a Comment Here. This is a public episode. 2024 didn’t go as visioned 👀 (here’s how I’m approaching 2025 instead✨)
Read this article here.On New Year’s Eve Collin got the kids out of the house and gave me some space for a little self-led retreat.Things did not go as planned… With 2024 I mean. Looking back on my 2024 vision board and monthly activities I realized: I had forgotten where I started…. which also explains where I am now.I believed things and tried things and it made me realize what I wanted more of and less of. So in each moment I kept taking the next aligned action. Actually making choices that felt good to my soul (instead of by the shoulds.)Which also left me a little whiplashed by years end… because of the stark contrast between how 2024 started and where I am now. Now I stand at a place of softening. Wanting freedom and space and to relieve pressure in my life (both financially and from what people need from me.)So looking at how I thought 2024 would go and how it did go- honestly makes me chuckle.🤣 Why did I ever think I could’ve guessed where I’d end up…This is a societal framework I’m ready to let go of. The reverse-engineering. Which innately makes me think “when this happens then that will happen.”If life is meant for living then why am I spending my time reverse engineering my way to work it so that I can then live? All I can do is give myself freedom and space so that I can actually make the next aligned choice in that moment. Not the choice I have to make or should make because of my circumstances. At the end of the day, for me, it’s less about the big visioning and more about the intentional everyday choices. That’s how I’m creating my life my way.And that’s why I’m swapping visioning for alignment in 2025✨I hope that sharing my process shows you a different way. That it invites you to listen to your soul’s cravings and choose the next action that feels aligned TO YOU!🗓️ P.S. Tomorrow, January 8th at 10am EST, the community is getting together for our Seasonal Co-Work + Connect session. Fiction to try when all you read are self-help and business books
Watch or read this episode hereWhen you're afraid to read fiction because it's "not productive."I've never been much of a reader. I was always the cliff notes kind of person in school. I've always been more of a TV person…. until this year when I consumed 47 books.I feel like I've unlocked this whole new world and this new side of self-care for me.It's interesting how it's impacted my creative work and allowed me to open up and see how much value is in simply storytelling, sharing and being. My business-y brain would normally say “I can only read a business book because that's a ‘productive’ way to use my limited time.”But I’ve learned that there is productivity in:reading these storiesimmersing yourself in these worldsrestingand just living life. And I think that's a big thing that I'm taking into 2025: That life is about living, being, learning and being able to support others along the way.… And I just think the support can look different than we thought it had to look.So in this video, I share:📚 How I transitioned from self-help to fiction✨ The books that eased me into the world of stories, like The Midnight Library and Emily Henry's rom-coms🎧 Tips for reading for free with Libby and maximizing Kindle Unlimited🎙️ Why audiobooks (like Daisy Jones & The Six) changed my experience💡 How fiction impacts creativity, productivity, and self-care💻 Why Goodreads is so helpful to have📗 And books to try if you like: Emily Henry, Gilmore Girls, Slow Living or are a Susbtack WriterLet’s dive into this journey together and explore how fiction can inspire and enrich your life.📖 Mentioned Books & Authors:The Midnight Library by Matt HaigHappy Place and other novels by Emily HenryWorks by Taylor Jenkins Reid (Daisy Jones & The Six, Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo)Abby Jimenez (Part of Your World, The Friend Zone Series)Laurie Gilmore (Pumpkin Spice Cafe, The Cinnamon Bun Book Store, The Christmas Tree Farm)Annabel Monaghan (Nora Goes Off Script)Jesse Q.
