Send us Fan Mail The Yankees just came off a 3-1 series win over the Red Sox in the Bronx this past weekend, but have VERY little to show for it.At the beginning of last week, the Yankees trailed the first-place Rays by 3 games, and led 2nd-place Boston by the same number of games.On the morning of September 1, the Yankees are looking at a 5-game deficit to the Rays in the loss column, and are still just three games ahead of the Red Sox.Still no Judge, who may (or may not) be back during the next home stand.The one advantage the Yankees did gain over the weekend is a season-series win over Boston so that in the event they finish the season with the same record, the New York will hold the tie-breaker and the Wild Card series (assuming it's New York and Boston) would be held in the Bronx.And on the musical side of things, at what point do legacy bands just need to hang it up, based upon who is (or really who isn't) in the band these days? Follow us on Social Media for more content.YouTube FacebookTwitter (you want to call it X, go ahead)

Send us Fan MailWhile the Yankees wait for Aaron Judge, Giancarlo Stanton, and Cody Bellinger to return from their respective injuries, the team's depleted lineup is struggling to score runs.In fact, since the trade deadline a couple of weeks ago, the Yankees are 6-5, falling slightly farther behind the first-place Tampa Bay Rays in the American League East.For the time being, the Red Sox, who were tied in the loss column with New York for the top Wild Card spot in the American League just a few days ago, have cooled off.Making the playoffs most likely isn't the issue.  But with three important pieces of their offense on the shelf until at least the beginning of September (and let's face it, Judge might be a couple of weeks beyond that, if he comes back at all this year), the odds of making a deep run in October get worse each day.And it most certainly doesn't help that pitcher Max Fried is injured again with a bone bruise in his left elbow.Also up for discussion this week - Tommy John's chances at the Hall of Fame, and an update on Anthony Volpe.Follow us on Social Media for more content.YouTube FacebookTwitter (you want to call it X, go ahead)

Send us Fan MailGoing into the MLB trade deadline, the New York Yankees had four holes that needed attention - catcher, shortstop, outfield, bullpen.The team's deadline moves yielded a first baseman in Luis Garcia Jr (yes, he has played other infield positions but he's not a shortstop), an outfielder in Heliot Ramos, and....And therein lies the problem.  New York's moves at the deadline simply weren't enough, which is indicative of a lack of urgency on the team's part.Garcia is a legit bat in the lineup; we're talking about a guy who was leading the National League in slugging at the time of the trade.  Ramos is at least a stop gap until Aaron Judge and Cody Bellinger come back.You can argue that the Yankees have enough in their bullpen to make a deep run in October, but when both the Rays and Red Sox make improvements at catcher, and you do NOTHING to fix your own problems behind the plate, there's an overwhelming feeling that the Yankees may think they can get by with Austin Wells as their everyday catcher.As for shortstop, the Yankees chose to make a move from within, bringing up highly-touted prospect George Lombard Jr and sending Anthony Volpe down to AAA.Did the Yankees get better at the deadline?  The lineup should improve with Garcia and Ramos.  Lombard deserves a chance to show what he can do.But you can also easily make the argument that the Rays and Red Sox, currently on either side of the Yankees in the American League standings, did a lot more than New York did.Follow us on Social Media for more content.YouTube FacebookTwitter (you want to call it X, go ahead)

Send us Fan MailThe United States Men's National Team's run in the 2026 World Cup ended Monday night with a 4-1 knockout loss to Belgium.Despite FIFA (thanks perhaps in response to a phone call from President Trump) allowing the USA's top scorer Folarin Balogun to play after a red-card suspension during the team's match with Bosnia and Herzegovina, the Americans looked flat almost from the start.For his part, Balogun was a non-factor in the game with just one shot on goal.  And Balogun wasn't alone in struggling.  Christian Pulisic was another in a line of American players who underperformed.When it comes to underperforming, you need look no further than the New York Yankees offense.After getting swept in a 4-game series by the Red Sox (which Jim Monaghan said last week would be nothing more than a blip on the screen), the Yankees were swept by the Minnesota Twins, and dropped a series against the Minnesota Twins.While Anthony Volpe may be the target of fan ire, he also has a lot of struggling teammates including Austin Wells, Ben Rice, and more.Follow us on Social Media for more content.YouTube FacebookTwitter (you want to call it X, go ahead)

Send us Fan MailRight now the Mets and Red Sox appear to be going in two different directions.And relax, Yankees fans.  You won't remember this past weekend by the end of July.Following a 4-game weekend sweep of the Yankees and a Monday night win over the Nationals, the Red Sox appear to have found some momentum.The Mets?  They are firmly entrenched in last place in the NL East and on the day they fired their manager, the Mr. Met mascot was seen cavorting on camera behind SNY's Steve Gelbs as he was discussing what had happened to Carlos Mendoza.Needless to say, that wasn't a good look. In actuality, they're actually both going in the exact same direction - nowhere.Both teams are in last place and while the Red Sox may be showing some signs of life, the reality is that they are not going to make the playoffs.So both appear to be sellers at the upcoming trade deadline which begs the question - who is going to be the one making trade decisions for each team?David Stearns of the Mets and Boston's Craig Breslow each put together horrible rosters and then fired their respective managers.If you're a fan of either team, do you REALLY want one of them making any kind of roster decisions going forward?As for the Yankees, losing four straight to the last-place Red Sox stings, but a month from now it will just be a blip on the screen.Follow us on Social Media for more content.YouTube FacebookTwitter (you want to call it X, go ahead)

Send us Fan MailHindsight is always 20/20, so it's not exactly earth-shattering news or a sizzling hot take to say that in retrospect, the Yankees rushed Anthony Volpe to the major leagues in 2023.After an eye-opening spring training that year, New York promoted Volpe to be their Opening Day shortstop bringing the local-kid-makes-good story REALLY come to life.Volpe struggled a bit in his sophomore season (as the VAST majority of major league players do) but came alive in the postseason against the Dodgers hitting a grand slam in Game 4 to help lift the Yankees to an 11-4 win.2025 was a completely different story as Volpe struggled both at the plate and in the field; he would ultimately undergo offseason surgery.When his rehab stint ended on Sunday May 3, the Yankees optioned Volpe to AAA to help him continue his development.  Meanwhile, George Lombard Jr (SS/3B) is also at AAA so the Yankees are going to have to move someone to a different position.And some sad news to report with the passing of longtime Yankees radio broadcaster John Sterling who, over the course of his career, called 5060 consecutive games, including every game Derek Jeter and Mariano Rivera played in pinstripes.Follow us on Social Media for more content.YouTube FacebookTwitter (you want to call it X, go ahead)

Send us Fan MailThere are still more than 140 games left in the regular Major League Baseball season but an early look at the standings after the first few weeks of play will tell you that there are a lot of teams bunched together.In fact, there are currently only two teams that are more than four games behind their respective division leaders in the loss column and even the most casual of MLB observers will tell you that a four-game lead in the middle of April means nothing.Perhaps more surprising are the performances of the so-called "small market teams" who are told they can't compete with the Big Boys.  The Rays, Twins, and Pirates are all leading their respective divisions and others like the Royals and Athletics are well within striking distance.Speaking of Pittsburgh, they are a VERY pleasant surprise here in the middle of April.  For a city that has been yearning for a competitive baseball team to root for, the likes of Paul Skenes and Konnor Griffin are giving Bucs fans reason to believe that PNC Park might be a fun place to be this summer.The Mets and Yankees are both struggling; one of those two teams has a better chance of figuring things out sooner rather than later.And finally, kudos to the Governor Livingston High School (Berkeley Heights NJ) baseball team who put together a 40-game winning streak (May 2024 - April 2026) that just came to an end on Saturday April 11 in a 2-1 loss to Arthur L.
