Uncensored Humanity

This is a special episode. Today is the first day we've had a 4th guest since Ethan, Dennis and I restarted the podcast. I finally got off my lazy ass and got a 4th microphone. The first guest had to be Agent Tom... now officially Former Agent Tom.   Our topic for today was a question I had while driving. I was listening to a podcast and a statistic blew my mind. It posed the question in my head, "do you think we are evolving or de-volving as a species?” I sent the question to the boys right away so I wouldn't forget. Both of them responded quickly that they loved the topic idea.   The statistic that blew my mind was, twenty percent (20%) of all high school graduates in the United States are functionally illiterate. In the lowest of the three levels of reading, level 1, one out of five high school graduates can't read and understand basic words. I don't even understand how this is possible. If someone is graduating high school in the US they should be easily in level 2, understanding the words. If not in level 3, able to evaluate and make judgments on the text as a whole.   I believe that most people think that just because we are further along in time that it automatically means that we are progressing as a society. But I completely disagree. I truly believe that people today are not as intelligent, has worse manors, is less respectful and overall just worse humans than previous generations. I'm also pretty sure every generation has said that about the next generation. So please take that with a grain of salt.   Obviously there are many factors in society de-volving and not just the Failing US school systems. Religion, social media, the failing of the nuclear family being just a short list of factors adding to the problem.   This was definitely an interesting conversation. Please enjoy.   In the future I'd definitely like to get into answering listener submitted questions.
