    Welcome to Season 2! After a short break, Malachi and Ben (and Winter) have returned with a new episode about the explorer Christopher Columbus. Malachi breaks down the narrative taught about Columbus and how it has been mythologized and is wrong. Winter also tells quite the silly joke.     Season 2 Preview

    It's a new year and that means a new season of Unschooled Malachi! After a brief hiatus, Ben, Malachi, and Winter will be back with new episodes start with one about Christopher Columbus. We may be tackling some different sorts of topics this season and hopefully with your help - email Malachi with ideas, comments, suggestions, questions, jokes, or just about anything at either of his addresses: [email protected] or [email protected].     Episode 13: Carniorous Plants

    This awesome episode has Malachi explaining carnivorous plants, something Ben thinks is a strange combination. Malachi explains how this happens and Winter and Ben tell some pretty bad jokes. There is also some clarification about the plants in the various Mario video games.

    Episode 12: Vikings

    In today's episode, Malachi shares his knowledge about Vikings and their civilization as well as their lasting influence on modern, popular culture. Ben is particularly blown away by Viking words that we use today and he and Winter tell some really bad jokes.

    Episode 11: Penguins

    In this episode, Malachi introduces us a well known flightless species of bird, the penguin. Ben gets surprised by a really interesting fact of how penguins are able to get out of water.

    Episode 10: Volcanoes

    Coming off of the episode about tectonic plates, Malachi goes into further details about volcanoes. This time, both Malachi and Ben have pretty bad jokes about volcanoes.     Episode 9: Digestive System

    Malachi explains the process by which our bodies get its nutrients and energy. Ben also learns a few cool animal facts that are totally new to him. And yes, this episode has some poop in it.

    Episode 8: Rivers

    Malachi explores a topic that we all might take for granted. Ben also sits back while Malachi shares an abundance of ecological information around rivers.

    Episode 7: Ears

    Malachi describes the apparatus that allows us to hear things and how important it is to our being. Ben admits what he does for a profession and how our ears play into how we stand. There is some background noise related to having a guests in this episode as well as some electrical interference, but do not let that distract from the amazing journey Malachi leads us though.

    Episode 6: Tectonic Plates

    In this episode, Malachi informs us of how the rocks and ground all around us work. Ben definitely has his mind blown and Winter returns with a dishware related joke.  Editor's note: it was very hot and somewhat windy when we recorded. There are a number of moments when the wind blows across the mics; it was dealt as best as possible, just be aware that there is a little distortion because of the wind.

    Episode 5: Aztecs

    In today's episode, Malachi explores a culture, rather than life science, for the first time in our podcast.     Episode 4: Viruses

    A timely episode where Malachi describes what viruses are, including the corona-virus that currently plagues the world. Winter tells another bad joke and Ben finds out how our bodies defend against viruses.

    Episode 3: Starfish (Sea stars)

    In episode 3, Malachi tells us all about Starfish, which should really be called Sea stars, Winter tells another joke, and Ben admits that he knows very little about today's topic. (S01E03)

    Episode 2: Bats

    On today's episode, Malachi delves into the world of bats. He goes through numerous types of bats and describes the wide variety found in the world. He also busts a few myths about bats as well. Today's episode also includes a guest, Malachi's brother Winter, who tells a joke appropriate to the days topic.  We learned about humans who use echolocation through the NPR podcast, Invisibilia.     In their very first podcast, Malachi shares a lot of interesting facts about giraffes. Malachi even surprises his dad, Ben, by busting a particular myth about giraffes, even after Ben makes a fairly bad joke about it.
