English Teaching Introduction
Welcome everyone! My name is Domynic, please call me Dom. I am a native English speaker. I was born, raised and still currently live here, in Georgia, in the US, in the southeast. I have been teaching English online for 7 plus years, so more than 7 years but less than 8 at this current time of recording. And the wind is blowing (laughs). I hold 2 TESOL certificates and over the last 7 plus years, I have learned a variety, a myriad, a slew, a great many, a great number of different tips and strategies and practices and activities that I’ve used with students that I’ve taught to students and that I’ve shared with students, thousands of students over the thousand s of classes and several thousands hours of teaching so I have a lot of experience and I’d love to share them with you. With that being said, a little bit about my approach to teaching, my view, my perspective, my feelings about teaching um is that it should be done in a relaxed environment. You should be engaged, you should be active, I wanna have conversation going back and forth. My focus, my desire is to get you to talk, I want you to talk as much as possible. So I want to probe your brain and poke your buttons to get you, to activate you to get you speaking as much as possible so that we can find any grammatical errors where we can suggest some new vocabulary, where I can help with some pronunciation and where we can have just general expansion of your knowledge and ability. Umm, With that: be prepared to speak, we’re gonna do a lot of talking and its OK to be shy. Don’t worry, I’m not gonna laugh, um this is an open space so the more mistakes, I wanna stress this, the more mistakes that you make, the more beneficial it is for you, really it is. As we talk and as we speak, in every class, no matter if its going to be for business English, for IELTS, for TOEFL, for academic studies, or completion of homework, or preparation for some sort of presentation that you’re gonna have to give in the future. Um A baseline strategy /tactic /thing that you’ll receive in the class is that as you talk, as you speak, I will constantly, , continuously, nonstop, be giving real-time corrections via the chatbox or in the message section. SO, as you talk, every grammatical error that you make, every pronunciation mistake that you make, any, any, any point where I hear that I can give a different phrasing that will sound more smooth or I that I think you would like to be able to see, um, I’ll share it, I’ll type it for you and (SMACK) there are bugs biting my legs. Um , yeah, (laughs) I’m gonna cut this short here, because I don’t want the mosquitoes to eat me. With that, please do book a trial lesson with me, I look forward to speaking with you and answering any questions that you may have. Um, In this trial lesson, we can use it as a time to get to know each other better, so that you can be more comfortable expressing and explaining and speaking with me, I know that it takes a little bit of time to warm up to someone. And but, also, so that I can get to learn more about you in terms of what your aspirations are, what your timelines are, your deadlines are, what you’re trying to achieve so that we can set up a detailed timeline schedule and mile markers so that we can keep track of our progress and so that we can make sure that we are on the right path to increase your English ability/ fluency and help you to accomplish and succeed in any whatever venture you are striving to accomplish or succeed in . Um, so I look forward to speaking with you. If you have any questions, please, please ask me in, in our trial lesson um, and thank you so much. Be well, take care and keep on studying, keep on practicing, even if you don’t speak with me, keep it going, you know? Your English only gets better when you practice it , its like a muscle, you have to stretch it so, keep listening, keep reading, keep writing, keep practicing, keep trying, be well, Take care. Alright.
