The production of opium in Afghanistan registered a 49 fold increase since 2001. In 2017, the production of opium in Afghanistan under US military occupation reached 9000 METRIC TONS. Poppy is the ONLY cash crop and export of Afghanistan. Banning or destroying the poppy fields appears to be a death blow to Afghanistan. Once again a power vacuum has emerged with the latest splintering in the operations of one of the most prolific and influential drug cartels in Mexico, the Sinaloa Cratel. The irony is that all of the things the OG homesteaders did was by necessity for life not a lifestyle choice, which is what makes up the "neo homesteading movement" that we see today; the luxury of choosing a lifestyle and a nostalgia for the past with romance of a fantasy.The starved, bleeding and puss-filled plight of the mid 19th century homesteader was necessary in order to arrive at the place we are nowadays, which ironically or not, is a place many of us are trying to leave. It is a disservice, in my opinion, to name that effort "homesteading" when in reality it is an effort at decentralizing, for there is nothing comparable taking place by youtubers, podcasters, and content creators regarding so-called homesteading to the OG pioneering homesteaders of the mid 19th century. Those people tried and died at the urging and incentive of the federal government, a government whose aim was always to form a centralized cohesive class system even if it had to mask that objective in "life, liberty and the pursuit of property". What we desire is departure from that empirical machine of grinding authority and centralization of power. We desire decentralization. The closest thing we can relate that desire to is a romanticized and programmed notion of the past as way to create a future. But the days of wide open spaces and being left alone are gone and gone for good. And they ain't never comin' back. They will never ever leave you alone.The truth is that the government first homesteaded the nation from the Atlantic to the Pacific, by ruthless murder and genocide, then subleased parcels of that property to a handful of poor people while allowing corporate giants of industry to suck up the remaining 80% of those millions of acres of "free land". In this episode I take a slight turn from the track I was on previously and examine the relationship I, and we, have to the world around around us and identify the toxic back and forth games run on us at all times. Chances are you've been in a toxic relationship with a narcissist, considering the world is quite full of them. It's quite possible that YOU are that narcissist or that toxically positive person or even just the punching bag target of abuse from that person. If that is the case, and given the extremes of those relationships, it's not easily to avoid falling into the classic bait-and-switch abusive techniques that are the baseline for even simple communications and everyday functions within the relationship. Our abusers know us very, very well.Now, expand that co-dependent toxic relationship up and out of the household to understand the nature of the systems of society we create and interact with. By clocking and tracking the abuse patterns and techniques of toxic, narcissistic interpersonal relationships and then the suffering and cognitive dissonance we live with in our sick, medicated, depressed and terrified society makes perfect sense. We are sick, tired, scared, overweight, medicated, and anxious because we are in a toxic relationship with this world. We are on the receiving end of psychological, physical and emotional abuse at the hands of systems designed for that exact purpose. While that is partly true, the fact remains that thousands of labor camps and refugee camps were built by the Allied Forces themselves, including the US under Eisenhower, for every single German citizen in all of Europe for years after the end of the war. Millions of everyday Germans, women, children and elderly, with nothing to do with the Reich, were forcefully expelled from every country in Europe and sent to camps. For years.
