Video Game Book Club has played their final game for 2025, Pipistrello and the Cursed Yoyo! This game is our indie darling of the 2025 season. Welcome to the first episode of The Checkpoint, it's the show between our show. In this first episode, Ben and I discuss our progress of the Video Game Book Club game of the month - Small Saga. We give our first impressions of the game as well as a tragic story from JP. Next, we discuss two different games we've been playing, Blue Prince and Crypt Custodian. One is a hardcore puzzle game with roguelike mechanics, the other a not so hardcore metroidvania that stars a recently deceased cat named Pluto. Video Game Book Club is back with the last game of 2024!! Thank you to everyone who has been part of our journey this year. We really really appreciate it. We're going to have 12 new games to play this year and we couldn't be more excited. Join the club and tell your friends to join too! In this episode Ben and JP discuss the casual spooky game that is Dredge. This game looks like a casual fishing simulator at first, but once you start dredging the depths you find some unsettling truths. The ending of the game hits like a truck and is truly terrifying. We talk about all the different fishing minigames, the powers you unlock, every island you visit, and we recap the whole story of the game... as well as its secret ending. JP was absolutely locked in while playing the game and tried to be a completionist. He absolutely loved the game and also wanted to catch 'em all (fish and pokemon). Ben made sure to let us know he tucked his fisherman in bed at 10:00pm every single night.
