Here's the latest fall color report from individual districts and developed areas along the Blue Ridge Parkway for the third weekend of October. Remember that elevation and your north/south orientation make a lot of difference so plan to drive some distant on the Parkway to be sure you catch some of the great fall color.

October has arrived here in the Blue Ridge and we know it by those very cool nights and those crisp days that define this month here in the mountains. Of course, we also know it's October because the color we're famous for is beginning to show.

It's late September on the Parkway and although we think of wildflowers as being associated with spring, this is a wonderful time of year for many meadows and roadsides to show off the last of the year's blooms.

This is the Blue Ridge Parkway Wildflower report for September 9th. In the Rocky Knob area, south of Roanoke in Virginia, Goldenrod is the latest bloom to show up here in early fall, and the bright red Cardinal Flower is in bloom.

In the Parkways highest elevations in North Carolina, especially south of Asheville, the peak color has already passed, but a drive through that region will still reward travelers with lots of pretty color in certain areas.

Fall leaf colors are approaching peak times along the Parkway. Some of the higher elevations have already passed their peak colors while the lower elevations will see peak color in the next week or two.

Vibrant fall colors can be found in many areas of the Parkway right now.

It's a great time to visit the Parkway and escape the heat of lower elevations. Certain species of wildflowers are quite showy this time of year.

The agricultural fields of the Parkway are filled with common varieties of Daisy and Yarrow. Rosebay Rhododendron is nicely in bloom.
