PHILADELPHIA – Last Saturday marked the one-year anniversary of DAWTA. Since the first party on November 23, 2024, this night has become an essential institution. The anniversary event, starting on the late hours of November 22, 2025, crossed the threshold into the 23rd right in the middle of the dance floor, solidifying the full-circle status of the night. DAWTA co-founder VJtheDJ (also known as VJ) delivered the hour-long opening set, a 61-minute masterclass in genre fusion that set the temperature high, moving the room from zero to "10,000" in an instant. A Note on History: This milestone belongs to the creators: @VJtheDJ and @djdeliiish (The Daughter). With a career spanning over 20+ years, "PUMPDABEAT is a masterminded DJ and ballroom icon—he IS the sound of Philadelphia." @djdeliiish follows close behind, bringing a rapid-fire set full of inspiration and comfort with a secular knowledge of hip-hop and other genres. The opening set was a powerful reminder of this sound, blending the best of nostalgic R&B and Hip-Hop with specialized club sounds—from Aaliyah and Sade House flips to heavy-hitting Beyoncé edits (including PUMPDABEAT/VJ tracks!)—before seamlessly driving into Baile Funk, Jersey/Philly Club, and Booty Bass. The room was packed and fully represented, with Houses like Versace, Juicy, and the co-founder's own Unbothered Cartier showing up in full effect. MCs @kurtlenci and @thefirstvirgo from the kiki House of Unbothered Cartier blessed the mic, ensuring the perfect balance of "cvnt and drama."
