Despite subsequent treatments, his vision deteriorated, leading to blindness in his right eye. He was eventually referred to the Thomas Eye Group, where he was advised to undergo a transplant. Singleton's left eye shrank to the size of a pencil eraser, and he was forced to retire due to his condition.
